Won't mount CD after update!!!

I usually resist (this is one good example why) updating when they show up.
Now after installing itunes, quicktime security update 2007-002/003, burned CDs will not show up on desktop AT ALL.
When I insert a new unburned CD, it asks for a title and that's the last it's seen.
Disk utility sees it, but won't mount it; only eject it.
This is really a BIG PAIN!! Thanks Apple!!
Our other macmini NOT updated works fine still.
Anyone know how to uninstall the undates? or fix this PLEEEEESE?
MacMini 1.25 MacMini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

thanks,
I did the permission update; now it's worse.
before it would ask me for a name for the blank cd; now it autopilot opens iTunes but no CD shows anywhere.
When I go to disk utility, viewing blank CD says:
"Write Ability : Read Only (CD-R)
Any ideas?
thanks

  • External HD's won't mount (& more) after update to 10.3.9

I updated from OS 10.3.2 to 10.3.9 using the Apple updater utility. After the update, external hard drives won't mount unless they are on when I boot up the computer.
Also music cd's won't mount, but data cd's do. The only way I can eject the music cd's is to shut the computer down or use Toast in copy mode. For some reason Toast can "see" the cd.
Also I was running Firefox 1.5.0.7 and Mozilla 1.7.13 when I updated. Now Firefox and Mozilla won't open. I had them in the dock and now clicking on them gets a question mark. I tried downloading Firefox 2. and when I double click the .dmg file I get a warning box saying that the disk image failed to mount because of "error 536870208". I get the same error message when I try and open the .dmg files for the older versions.
Do I need to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everthing? I hope not.
    Thanks for any help,
    John R

No. DVD's mount and work fine. Music cd's are the only ones that won't mount, and they don't get kicked out. They just sit in the machine. They are not damaged when I do get them out.

  • [solved] hal won't mount volumes after update

Every time I try to mount it, hal gives me an error:
    Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.12" (uid=1000 pid=3528 comm="pcmanfm) interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member="Mount" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.freedesktop.Hal" (uid=0 pid=3228 comm="/usr/sbin/hald))
    Followed by:
    Directory doesn't exist!
I really don't know what the deal is, and google doesn't turn up much of anything.
Edit: This is for all drives not mounted at boot, same error.
Drives can be manually mounted with no problems.
Edit: This happens regardless of file manager used.
Solution: In my case I needed ck-launch-session added to my ~/.xinitrc for mounting to work. So, this:
    exec openbox-session
    Became this:
    exec ck-launch-session openbox-session
If this doesn't work for you, following the instructions on the hal wiki page as seen in anonymous_user's post (#11) most likely will.

I fixed it by removing policykit from my machine and restarting. The new version of hal drops policykit as a dependency. I don't know whats the reasoning behind this, as hal doesn't seem to support polkit integration (at least there is no compile flag for it). So policykit now seems to interfere with the new hal package.
    Edit: Spelling
hal requires consolekit and polkit is required by it. How the disable consolekit integration bit works I don't understand.
You can disable consolekit by editing the PKGBUILD:
    --disable-console-kit --disable-policy-kit --disable-acl-management
EDIT: When building the package from scratch, it seems --enable-consolekit needs --enable-policykit, i might be wrong
    EDIT: I was wrong

  • Mac OSx won't boot up after update to 10.6.7?

Mac OSx won't boot up after update to 10.6.7?

    Hi Mike
This is called a kernel panic, similar to s 'blue screen of death' on Windows. When you say you reinstalled 3 times, do you mean the OS or the Update?
When does this kernel panic appear? You may have a hardware issue if it's happening on boot.

  • External hard drive won't mount, even after disk repair.

My Toshiba external hard drive won't mount on my MacBook Pro 10.8.5. I can see it in my disk repair, and when I repair, "the partition map appears to be ok." But I can't access the icon to be able to open the hard drive contents on my desktop. Help!

    Hello maccynicwhoalwayshasmacs,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like trouble with an external HD mounting. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • PowerBuilder won't reactivate License after update

Current;y have PowerBuilder Classic 12.5.2 build 5006 installed on a Windows 7 64bit machine.  This was licensed and activated properly.  Went to run the install again to add a missing database driver.  After updating, when I ran Powerbuilder, it came up as unlicensed.  I reapplied my license file with no success.  I then went to the SAP site and regenerated a new license key for my machine (based on my host id and computer name, which didn't change) and applied it.  Still won't activate.
Has anybody ran into this issue and how was it solved?
    - - Shane - -

    Hi Shane;
I have never seen this situation ever.
What I would suggest though is
    a) Try this first ...
    Locate pb125_sysam.properties in C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Sybase\PowerBuilder 12.5
Right click on the file and select "Properties".
Click on the "Previous Versions" tab. Wait a bit until the File Versions box is populated.
Select a version from a restore point when you knew PB to be working OK and then click the RESTORE button.
    PB should start normally
    b) running a SySam trace ...

  • Q10 Won't Turn On After Update

I am currently on Windows Phone and wanted to try Blackberry 10 as I am fan of my old Blackberry. I wanted to try it out cheap so I bought a Q10 on Ebay for $50 even though the seller said the phone had a water damaged sticker thinking I could fix it. I also bought a brand new battery from Amazon to go with it.
So my issue is when I got the phone, it was having trouble connecting to Link and reloading the OS would fail due to connection loss, so I nuked the phone with a program to clear the phone. I also soaked the phone in isopropyl alcohol after reading that soaking it could get rid of mineral deposits on water damaged phones. After the nuke and clean, the phone does the two quick blinking red lights which (I think) means the phone has no OS on it which is what I wanted after the nuke.
So, I plug the phone into the computer and Link recognizes it as a Q10. I have BB OS 10.2 downloaded and went to reload it. It completes the update all the way with a green LED on the whole time it is updating. When Link says to unplug the phone to let it reboot, the phone does nothing. Holding down power for any length of time can't turn on the phone. Plugging the phone into a wall charger causes the orange charging LED to flash on like it's going to start charging before quickly turning to a red LED while it stays plugged in.
I nuked the phone and tried Autoloader which does the same thing in the end as the phone won't turn on when it unplugs from the computer after updating. Seeing as how the phone is recognized by Link, seems to update correctly with the green LED on, and can be nuked fine, is there any way I can get this phone to work? It seems as though the battery isn't charging because once I unplug from the computer / wall, nothing seems to do anything and the LED doesn't flash. It is a new battery, so could the water have caused an issue on the circuit board which is not letting the battery charge?
Any help is appreciated, and I am willing to try pretty much anything and have decent knowledge of software / hardware. I have done tons of searching for similar issues to no success, but have not found this exact problem. Thanks in advance for any help!

OK, you bought a new battery which I would recommend, and it still is NOT charging or powering on.
You've done this already >> Make sure you let it charge with the wall outlet charger for several hours and then with it still connected to the wall outlet charger, remove the battery and reinsert... what happens?

  • ITunes won't open up after updating...

    oh no. it won't.
i download the update, i install it succesfully, i open up iTunes and...that's it, it bumps in the dock once and then it disappears without opening up.
Then the only thing that can restore a working version of iTunes is deleting it with appDelete and reinstalling the 7.1.1 version...yes, because all the later updates won't work in any case. None of them.
anyone got an idea? actually i don't need to install the newer version of itunes, but id like to solve it
    thanks

Do you get an error message when you try to launch iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

  • IPad won't turn on after update to ios7

After updating to ios7 on my iPad, it would keep resetting itself and show the apple logo until finally starting up.  Over a few days this got worse and worse and eventually stopped working where I would have to hold the home and on/off buttons to reset it.  I have now reached a point where it no longer starts up.  Having went to an apple store they say they can't identify the issue as they can't start it up and offered me to pay £199 to have it replaced (how very nice of them).  I have had online chats with an advisor and a senior advisor who have diagnosed this as a 'hardware' issue!!!
Guess what apple, no it is not, this is a result of the updgrade to ios7!!!  My iPad worked perfect before and I will not be paying £199 to replace it!!!
If anybody else has had similar problems please let me know.
    Thanks.

    Try this reset ...
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, restore the iPad  >  Tunes: Restoring iOS software

  • Why Won't iTunes Open After Updating?

    Hello,
I updated iTunes today because I wanted to import songs from a CD onto it. After updating iTunes, I received the following messages after trying to open iTunes. (http://imgur.com/Rv2jOWa) The second message would appear after clicking "Okay" on the first message. I tried reinstalling iTunes through Apple. I also uninstalled myself after Apple's way didn't work 3 times in a row. I tried twice myself and after all that it still displays those messages after trying to open iTunes. I've never had a problem with iTunes before.

  • Flash won't work on after updating

When I went to play Boggle Bash or Mahjong Garden on POGO.com. , a pop-up came up and said that my flash player was out of date. After updating 3 times, I still cannot play my flash games on POGO. The same pop-up shows up stating that my flash player needs to be updated. I checked the current version and it is the latest one, 16.0.0.305 for Firefox and Windows 7 . Why isn't this update being recognized? I have gone through the list of trouble shooting to no avail. What should I do to get my games working again.  Thanks

  • Won't boot up after update 10.4.7

Help! I downloaded the update from 10.4.6 (didn't see if it was 10.4.7 but assume it was). Now I start up with a grey screen headed
Panic(cpu 0 caller OX0019CAEF) unresolved kernel trap cpu 0 Type 6=invalid opcode) registers
and on for many more lines which mean nothing to me, but I'll type them in if it will mean something to anyone.
Machine was new in March, and had additional 512mb ram pre-installed. No problems apart from failing to network with G4 and G3 running 9.2, until this download (which indicated it resolved some networking problems).
I've taken out both the original and additional ram, tried it with each on their own, with no difference.
It will restart from installation disk and I've re-set permissions and done a disk check which it errors before completing.
I've done a hardware check which is ok.
I've tried installing a clean system and it errors just before completion.
I've tried to use the Firmware Restoration which is supposed to restore the firmware after an interrupted or failed update - but the LED on my MacBook doesn't flash in the sequence indicated in the instructions and doesn't do the restoration.
It has been suggested by the dealer that I reformat the hard drive, but I have some photos that aren't backed up yet that I really don't want to lose. I've tried starting it in Target disk mode, in order to transfer them to another computer, but 3 other computers I've tried to link it to won't do anything.
I'd be grateful for any guidance!

Have you tried rebooting the machine in safe mode? Restart the machine, and as soon as you hear the chime, hold down the SHIFT key, until you see the grey screen. If it boots, you will see the login screen, and it will say (in red letters) SAFE MODE. This disables a good many of the features such as Airport, but also refrains from loading anything other than Apple kernel extensions. You can then log in, and either attempt to fix your problem, or at least offload your stuff that needs backed up so that you can try a reinstall.
