Won't mount finalised DVD-RW discs - any suggestions?

I have three brand-new Sony DVD-RW discs recorded and finalised on a standalone DVD recorder. They play fine in all my consumer DVD players and in my Windows laptop, but my PowerBook refuses to mount them. The Superdrive tries to read them, you hear the head shuttling around, but no icon appears on the desktop. If you just leave it to see what happens, the drive eventually stops spinning.
I've used DVD-RWs in my Superdrive before with no problems; in fact, these are the first DVDs of any format that have ever refused to mount on my PowerBook.
Is there any software I can try, any Superdrive firmware updates available? If necessary I can use my Windows laptop to rip the discs onto my external HD and use the Mac to access them from there, but I'm not happy that my Superdrive apparently won't read finalised major-brand DVD-RWs when it's done so with no problems in the past.

It is always a good idea to go to your Apple and then Software Update to make sure your Computer is running the latest updates, Be sure you Repair permissions before and after the Update.
Media has always been a problem, you might run 10 or 15 from a stack of 30 and then I have seen brand new 30 pack not accept 1 of the 30.
Unless it is just imparitive I would suggest DVD-R Media it appears they like most Mac Burners better.
Yes I know that you shouldn't be having this issue but until Apple does something about this issue, you are stuck.

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your iPhone. I recommend the following article and specifically steps 4 and 6 for the situation you described. Step 4 says to restart your phone, but if you click on the link in step 4, you will get the steps to reset your iPhone as well.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

Need drivers, Vista won't mount Leopard DVD

Somehow Parallels Desktop (or something) hosed the drivers on my BootCamp partition. Result: can't mount DVDs. Since the only solution for restoring the drivers is to insert the Leopard DVD, you can see my problem. I need drivers to mount the DVD and I need to mount the DVD to get the drivers!
Is there any way out of this vicious circle?

Use another Windows system to put the Drivers folder from the Leopard CD on a USB or FW storage device and then apply the drivers individually on your BootCamp Vista from the storage device. There is some information about this on page 24 of the BootCamp installation instructions.

IMac G5 won't mount commercial DVDs

I have a 1-year old iMac G5 that suddenly stopped mounting commercial DVDs (e.g., movies). DVDs and CDs containing software programs mount fine, as do unformatted DVDs for burning. But not movie DVDs. My software is up to date, including latest security upgrades (so I'm kind of suspecting the latter as a possible cause for the problem). But have others seen this or worked out solutions?

Mine has done this on occasion.
After ejecting a few times/restarting, it works.
I can't get it to do it consistently though so I can't troubleshoot it.

I have tried other 'codecs' DV-PAL; DVCPRO-PAL; DVCPRO50-PAL; AIC; and finally share to iDVD. iDVD works on both my iMac and DVD Recorder but the picture is very poor with major shimmering which is unwatchable. Can anyone assist? The other codecs I used either do not pay on my video recorder or fail when I play them back on my iMac. I am at a loss as to what I can do. I am from the UK so using PAL is essential.

If the source video is interlaced, you may have problems using iMovie. It de-interlaces everything on output which can cause picture to look strange. Final Cut Pro X supports interlaced video, but it costs a lot more.
Standard DVD Players don't support H.264 or MPEG4. You might want to look at this article on transferring HD video to DVD. I wrote this article mainly for Final Cut Pro, but many of the same principles apply.

Archiving iMovie (DV files) to data DVD-R? Any suggested program?

I have over 200 Digital8 tapes dating back to 1999 that I know will eventually go bad. I am in the process of importing all of them in to iMovie project files, and I'd like to back up the data to DVD-Rs (so I have the pure DV video; NOT exporting them to MPEG-2 DVD video).
It should take three DVD-Rs (4.7GB) to hold 13GB of DV data (about an hour project) but Apple's BACKUP wants 4 DVDs, so maybe it's not using the discs as well as it could be.
Does anyone know of a program designed for this purpose? Itwould be nice to have some kind of solution to archive these files (three DVD-Rs at less than .50 each is still cheaper than a $5 DV tape). It would be very cool to have a way to keep small scaled down preview vids online and then reference the backup when I want to use them.
For what it's worth, I just added ANOTHER 2 terrabyte drive (four 500GB drives) to my existing 2.6 terrabytes. I don't trust hard drives since I've had three Western Digitals goes bad on me (so now I am using Seagates, Maxtors and Hitachis, with each drive cloned to another in case of failure). I just want to get my data backed up.
