Won't open website

Why if Firefox is set as my default browser, when I click on an icon it opens the "print" dialog box instead of opening the site?

Is this happening if you click a link in an external program to open Firefox?
Make sure that Firefox is set correctly as the default browser.

Try to redo the default browser setting and temporarily set another browser as the default browser.

  • MacBook won't open websites

Hi guys, got a problem here.
Today I was using safari on my macbook and suddenly the webpages stopped opening. The airport detects my home wireless connection, logs on but the websites won't open. I have restarted my mac, tried problem detecting (says everything is fine), restarted my router, but I still can't do anything. The wierdest thing is all my other computers and iphone connect just fine with the same connection.
What can I do??? It was working just fine and suddenly just stopped. Ethernet is working fine...
    Help please!

did you just upgrade to 10.5.3??
did it used to work on 10.5.2?
    I would check your system.log;
    Go to System Profiler,
    Select Software, Logs
Select "system.log" from the right panel, scroll all the way to the bottom,
if you see a bunch of kernal errors like (Beacon Lost) that is your problem.
At 10.5.3 they broke the macbook airport card it no longer sees the wireless router beacon.
If you roll back to 10.5.2 from the Leopard DVD it should work again. There is NO fix from Apple, for this to my understanding. I was hoping for a Aiport Broadcom firmware update or a patch but 10.5.4 came out a week later, nothing, same problem persists, the other day 10.5.5 came out, maybe by 10.5.96 they will fix it. Or someone will hack it back to the airport drivers used in 10.5.2.
This problem is annoying as **** and Apple is doing nothing about it. You can't take your Macbook to Starbucks or any other place and connect to their network, might as well drag out your old Toshiba with Ubuntu and take it.

  • Safari won't  open websites on hotel network in korea, but other macs will

I'm in South Korea on business and am staying at a hotel with free wireless. I'm the only person here that can't get my computer to work correctly. I'm actually writing this from a mac computer using safari. I have tried both Safari and firefox on my mac and the pages act like they will load and show about 25% of the blue bar loading, but it never finishes. I don't get an error message, just nothing finishes.
In america the mac airport seems to work fine but occasionally when I go to a hotel or am at the airport I have problems getting the "terms of agreement" page to load. Both Safari and Firefox will try to load my home page unsuccessfully, but if I load the name of the network in the root directory it will go to that page and let me "accept the terms". RDU airport is a good example. When I go in the skyclub my pages won't load, even if I have been there before. I have to go the root directory and put in either "delta.com" or tmobile.com" (the name of the network is tmobile). I have had the same problem at hotels I have stayed at, but have always managed to make it work. Well not this time!
I'm trying to think of questions you might have. It says I'm connected to the network, it gives an ip address. Again, I'm travelling with 20 people and they are not having any troubles. I even checked my network and safari settings against this computer I'm using and everything appears to be the same.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    HI,
Since both browsers are effected, make sure there is enough free disk space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
Launch Safari. From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Click
"Change Settings" next to Proxies. That will prompt the System Preferences / Proxies panel.
Under: Select a protocol to configure: Make sure none of the boxes are selected.
    Relaunch Safari.
Also, try changing the Airport channel. Open AirPort Utility (Applications/Utilities)
Select Airport on the left, and then click Manual Setup.
Click AirPort in the menu, then click Wireless tab.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu, click Update. Try accessing the web again.
If that doesn't help, go to /Library/Preferences. Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash, restart your Mac.

  • Embedded videos in many websites won't open.

I have found that the embedded videos on many but not all websites won't open now when I'm browsing in Firefox. I am running 27.0.1. I have Adobe Flash Player installed so that's not an issue. As some examples of non-openers: Embedded videos in some of the news articles on Yahoo!'s home page; videos on the davidlynchfoundation.org site. I tried disabling the "Adblock Edge" add-on, but it didn't change anything. In many cases, their is a big empty space in the text where the video should be, i.e. there isn't any indication that there's a video there. In other cases, I click on the visible start icon, but the screen of the vid just goes to black.
When I switched to Safari, all of these embedded videos opened without a hitch. I'd rather continue with Firefox, but will have to switch to Safari if we can come up with a "fix" for this problem.
I have a MacBook running Snow Leopard. This is a new problem which I haven't experienced with Firefox previously.
BTW: I have only minimal tech skills.
Thanks for any advice/help you can provide.
    Dave

    Hi Yogidave,
It sounds like the videos are not loading properly. If there are not video controls, but there is a space for the video, this means that the item is loading, but the player is not loading.
    In understanding what you tried:
I tried disabling the "Adblock Edge" add-on - it looks like this is no longer in the list of add ons that you have in the troubleshooting information, when you took this out, do the videos still leave space in the page where the video should be?
The examples you used: Yahoo homepage and the davidlynchfoundation: I know the latter uses an embedded youtube video with has its own video player that uses flash, as well at Yahoo. (I am not sure if all the videos are flash in Yahoo)
Since this is the case, can you please check your extensions to see if you have Flash installed or if you have it disabled? If so, please turn it on and visit the sites that are giving you issues to see if this resolves the problem.
This article has pretty simple instructions how to install the player if it is not there[[Install the Flash plugin to view videos, animations and games]]
The only other test I can suggest is to see if another type of embedded video does the same thing. For example, if you have netflix or hulu, see if those video players do the same thing.
I hope this helps. (also I tested those pages in beta and it loads just fine, you are not short of watching videos again in firefox)

  • HELP: iTunes crashes (won't open), and Apple website crashes Explorer too

I've had an iPod for years, and have 16G + of music in my library on my old desktop computer. That computer is EXTREMELY slow, however.
I got an iPhone last week. So since I want more ease of music access, I thought I'd install iTunes on my laptop (which is so much faster), and move my music from my old desktop.
Last weekend, I only got around to installing iTunes on my laptop, and authorizing that computer so I could download some apps.
This weekend, I tried to open iTunes on my old desktop computer again, so I could start the process of moving my music library to the laptop. I was surprised to discover that iTunes won't even open anymore, at all. I just get the standard error message, "iTunes 8.0 experienced a problem and had to close." Believe me, I've restarted the computer several times, and it still won't open. I've run Norton, and there are no viruses identified either.
So, I thought I should go to the Apple website and download the program again. Not possible! Anytime I even try to go to www.apple.com or www.apple.ca or www.itunes.com/downloads, my Explorer browser window crashes. In fact, it crashes any and ALL open browser windows, not just the one that I typed an apple URL into.
I'm fortunate that can use my laptop to access this apple forum, or I'd really be at a loss.
Is this happening because I authorized my laptop? It seems more like an evil Apple-hating Microsoft virus somehow...
What can I possibly do to get my iTunes library (all 16 gigs of it) to my laptop, WITH all my carefully organized playlists, etc?

Sounds a lot like a virus I had on my desktop..it finally forced me to wipe everything and go with the laptop.
However you could try to download Firefox, or another browser, and then try to log onto Apple. Maybe its completely an Explorer issue? Cant hurt to try at least. Firefox is quick and free to download.
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
And no, I am not one of those "Firefox is the answer to everything" people...you could try the new Google Chrome browser as well.
    http://www.google.com/chrome
Good luck..I know how frustrating this is. I hope something works.

  • Firefox refuses to go to any website, won't open bookmarks, just won't work. Oh HELP!!!!!

I tried to open Firefox this morning and got a message saying that the installation was malformed (huh?!?!?!?). It opens but refuses to go to any website, it won't open any of my bookmarks, and it won't allow me to refresh or do ANYTHING AT ALL. I am running Mac OS 10.4.11 and I have ordered Snow Leopard but it hasn't arrived. Meanwhile, I'm unable to upgrade Firefox until Snow Leopard arrives...is there ANYTHING I can do to get my Firefox back in the meantime? Help.....!

download the version you need from this link- [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older]

  • Why is it that I can open some websites and others won't open at all. It says below that the information is transferring from another site, but it never opens. Very frustrating.

I open an e-mail, click on a link, and sometimes it will open, other times it won't. If the website is given in the e-mail, I can copy and paste the site into Firefox, and it will usually open, but I want to know why a valid link won't open. Other times, I will enter an address in Firefox and I get "done" at the bottom, but I'm looking at a blank page. I'm not a technician, just an operator, so it may be a setting somewhere in the millions of settings that are default or that I have changed, but I have no clue what is causing this. Another problem that only occurs with Firefox is that if I am filling out an online shopping cart, when I'm done, there is no button to click to finish the transaction. I have to open IE, go to the same site, make the same order, and the "submit" or "order" button is there. Why in IE and not in Firefox? Any help would be most appreciated.

OK lets engage the brain here. A car is warranted from the maker of the car through the dealer that sells it.
That warranty is clearly spelled out. 3 years parts and labor, 5 year power train, 10 rust through etc. It tells you how to obtain this warranty service.
Find the warranty service conditions on Verizon Wireless and READ them.
Now you go to Best Buy and buy a Television and hook it to cable vision or Fios and it breaks down and you want the company you get TV service from to fix it? Please get real.
If you bought the device from Walmart or Best Buy or any major retailer they give you 15 days to return a defective unit. Then after that time it spells out your options. One of them is not to bring it back to them. They don't repair devices.
Now Verizon Wireless is also a retailer, they give you 14 days to return it and after that they will assist in the warranty of the device through the manufacturer. Verizon does not make phones nor repair them.
There is no customer courtesy outside of issuing a refurbished device if not physically broken and you send the other one back to complete the warranty process if under a year. If you have supplemental insurance then you go through asurian. That is pertinent information.
Just because you don't like the reply does not make it correct.
The updates come through Google, then HTC (Or other device makers), then to Verizon to push out to the devices. Verizon has nothing to do with the code of the update, nor anything regarding the devices. They provide a service of which is cellular and data services. If the devices cannot work on their service Verizon Wireless is not to blame.
    Good Luck

  • My MacBook Pro (Late 2009) won't open specific website

    Hello!
I have a problem with opening hotfile.com website. In any browser (I've checked in Safari, Chrome and Firefox) it won't open. The weird thing is that on my wifes' PC there is no problem to open that page. Moreover, I CAN open that page, but only using online proxies (tried on zend2.com), and Windows 7 via Parallels…
I've cleared cache of browsers many times but with no results. I've checked "hosts" file also, but there was everything fine.
Through Terminal.app trying "ping" and "traceroute" gives both "unknown host".
Using same commands on my router displays connection with hotfile.com properly.
    I don't know, what's wrong. :/
Hope there will be somebody, who will help me.
    Best regards,
    Maciej from Poland

It sounds like a DNS issue. DNS (Domain Name System) is how your system translates the name you type into your address bar into an actual address. When you enter the name hotfile.com... you system goes out and queries a DNS server which looks up the name to get the correct address and then sends you there.
I would suggest that you just change your DNS server. Use this page as a guide on how to change it, but don't use the DNS server info they provide (as it's specific for the school giving the instructions). Instead use the OpenDNS addresses which are:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
If there are currently DNS servers listed, just delete them.
    http://ucdb.grinnell.edu/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Help.MacDNSIssues
You may need to make the DNS change for your ethernet connection as well if you're experiencing the same problem.
Let us know how you make out.

  • "MY" PDF files won't open on my website

I have a website hosted by Ipage.com. I created a PDF from Photoshop and another from Pagemaker 7 (acrobat distiller) both files open fine on my computer and other computers, but when I upload them to my website they won't open in the Internet Explorer Window.
I can view everyone else PDF's on every website I've visited, even downloaded a Free PDF template from another website and uploaded to my website to try and see if it was MY PDF's or just ALL PDF's. The Free PDF Template worked just fine on my website, so it's my PDF's that are the problem.
I've noticed any PDF I make has the Standard PDF icon and the filename.pdf. But the ones I have saved off websites have a preview of the document and say "Adobe Acrobate Document' underneath.
Using CS5, Pagemaker 7, Windows Vista...I have all the latest updates for adobe reader. What do I need to do to create web viewable PDF's?

Just a thought:  Your web server may not be returning the proper mime type to peoples' browsers for your published .pdf files.  If this is the case, there's nothing wrong with your files themselves.
In the root of your web server area you may need to add an .htaccess file to inform the web server (e.g., Apache) to return the mime type application/pdf for files with .pdf extensions.  The line in the file will look like this:
    AddType application/pdf .pdf
There's a lot of documentation on doing this on the web if you search for something like:  mime type in .htaccess

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load
    * Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions
    * Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
    * Check the exceptions in Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions
    * Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images)
There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block images.
