Won't power on with audio cable plugged in

I have a powerbook g4 17" 1.5ghz that I replaced the screen on. When I got the powerbook, the screen was cracked and had no audio cable connected from the sound board to the logic board so I took a cable from a 1ghz 17" and plugged it in. When the cable is plugged in, the laptop will not try to power on. All I get is a very brief sound from the cd drive. If I unplug the cable, it boots normally and works perfectly. I even unplugged the cable from the sound board with the same result. I'm thinking the cable itself has a short in it and I need to buy another one. I just wanted to confirm that this is probably the problem.

Mac1313:
I guess I will just have to leave the sound board unplugged and use a usb sound device for headphones or external speakers. I really appreciate your help though.
If everything else will work, that sounds like a workable plan. You can use a device like Griffin iMic as a sound input and/or output.

  • Since Mavericks Upgrade iMac won't shutdown with network cable plugged in

Since Upgrading to Mavericks my iMac won't shutdown - just stays on grey timer screen.
I tried multiple fixes from forum suggestions.
If I unplug the network cable it seems to shutdown fine.
How can I fix this issue?

I am working with a T42 (old computer) and it will not boot into Windows with network cable plugged in. It hangs just after the Windows splash screen. Unplug the cable turn off and back on and it works fine.

  • 1st gen 4GB nano won't power up with USB

My new-to-me old Nano doesn't work on battery power, even after new battery installed, but powers up and plays when docked onto speaker. No big deal, and merely mentioned as a possibly related symptom...main issue is that it won't power up using USB cable to PC. My other nano works fine with the same cable. The bad one gives an Apple logo, then backlighting flashes on for a mere fraction of a second and then it shuts down. Then about three seconds later it all repeats again. There's only 25 songs on this 4GB model. I could care less about this problem if only my music was already loaded onto it. It cost me $15 on ebay and $5 for a battery, so $20 into a useless unit bites. $30 could have gotten me a good working one...hopefully this can be revived for cheap?

Well, I tried to other things... I turned off the backlighting to see if less current draw would help. It didn't. Also, the backlighting option gets deleted off the main screen menu after it dies/reboots.
I also tried connecting to PC with the ipod screen ribbon cable disconnected just for kicks...still a no-go.
I just want to load it up with songs...sigh.

  • Can't log in with ethernet cable plugged in

I have a whole department that has the same basic image and exact same workstations as other departments but solely has issues logging into their computers after a restart or shutdown. To log back in, they need to unplug their ethernet cables. Otherwise,
it never gets passed the welcome screen. After looking through the event logs, I see that when they are trying to log in with the cable plugged in they get an error stating:
    Error      4/23/2014 10:31:52 AM  Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy             1055       None     "The processing
of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the computer name. This could be caused by one of more of the following:
    a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller.
    b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller)."
It seems that they are getting in with cached credentials and I've looked up the error and tried to see if there are DNS issues with the workstations being able to contact the DC and I can't quite figure out why this is happening. Does anyone have any suggestions
as to why this is happening? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

I have been thinking about rejoining the machine to the domain but it is difficult to log in to the machine as an admin or any other acct that isn't the common user of the machine so I haven't tried it. All of the machines in that department aren't connected
on the same switch. The dept does not have a separate DC and it is not an RODC, it's a global catalog DC. I haven't run rsop.msc but have run a GPresult and I don't see any errors.

  • Nomad Jukebox 6GB DAP6G01 Silver: Won't power up with batteries or AC cord after years of

My very first MP3 player won't power up with batteries or AC cord after years of use.
I take good care of my electronics, so it was a big surprise when I couldn't power it up.
I've read of other owners of this type of player that there could be moisture built up inside the player, but that couldn't be the case. I keep the player in a cool dry storage place when I don't use it. I use my Zen Micro and Vision a bit more now.
Since the player has no support or warranty anymore, are there any repair facilities that could diagnose the problem the player is experiencing.
Does anyone else have the same problem and if so, what could be done to correct it's
Thanks a lot for any comments.

I have swapped the RAM DIMMS around (as previously mentioned), but no amount of swapping changes the pattern of failure. I tried running with 1GB RAM (one pair of sticks) instead ot 2GB, with no change to the pattern of failure.
I'll probably just connect my drives to our G4, reinstall Tiger on the former G5 startup drive, and keep using what will run on the G4 until it croaks.

  • T61 6465 9UU with 4Gig of RAM won't power up with power cable plugged in

    Hi there.
I have a T61 that works perfectly, except the power button does not work when the power cable is plugged in.  If I unplug the power cable, press the power button, everything boots up fine, with it saying I have 3+ hours on the battery after I login to Windows 7.  If I plug the power adaptor in, it starts charging the battery as normal.
Any ideas why it won't boot when I press the power button with the power cable plugged in?  I updated to the latest bios, and all is OK.  I just received this PC, so I don't know if it had the problem in the past.
    Thanks
    Jeff

I'm now at a loss, and worried something is wrong with the motherboard.
I’m afraid you could be right…
Usually the DC IN / Battery indicator will glow amber while the battery is being charged.
In case the notebook is OFF the battery should be fully charged after about 3 hours… if the notebook is ON, the charging time would be a little bit longer… after about 6 hours the battery should be fully charged.
In such case the Dc IN / Battery indicator should switch the status to “white”. This would indicate that the battery is fully charged…
New batteries need to be calibrated to reach the best performance…
Calibrating means that the battery should be discharged until its fully empty and then charged again till the DC IN/battery indicator would glow white.
This process should be repeated two, three times until the battery recovers normal capacity.
As mentioned, the DC IN / Battery indicator should glow amber to indicate that the battery pack is being charged. However if the LED does not glow, this indicates that power is not being supplied correctly.

  • Mirror door g4 dp  won't power on with the on switch

    Hi,
Running into a problem that I have seen on this site, but have not seen resolved.
My MD G4 won't turn on with the button.
The light flashes and then nothing.
I replaced the battery and went through a list of things to try,(resetting etc.) with no luck.
I have 2 monitors; one DVI and one ADC.
I am able to power up the machine with the on button on the ADC monitor, and all is well.
Unfortunately, I need to move my computer about 25 feet from where my monitors are, and was hoping to go with a non-ADC monitor.
Any ideas of where to start?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi Hans,
Thanks for sticking with this thread.
    OK...
When the problem first happened, the battery was original.
I replaced the battery. (With the correct one.)
As it was still exhibiting "bad battery-like" symptoms, I purchased another battery, just in case.
I made sure to follow the reset procedures each time.
About a month later, I replaced the battery yet again. (Stranger things have happened)
Last night, we tried yet another video card.
    Nothing.
Then, we found if we plugged in the monitors first, followed by the power cable, it would start using the front button.
Upon replugging the power cable to the Mac, we got the "wrong date and time" message.
    Hmmm...
We pulled a battery out of another mac and switched it for the "new" one.
    Now it is working.
We reinstalled the original video card and it is still working.
While it is not impossible, I am having a hard time believing that I had three bad batteries in a row.
I'm going to see how it goes for the next couple of days and will report back.

  • Pavilion dv7 3079wm won't power up with/without battery or ac cord

Tried to power up with a.c. cord or battery. Leads flash once attempts to start, then goes out.

I hope you folks won't mind my piggy-backing on this thread.  I have a very similar problem with a dv7 (belongs to my grandmother).
When I plug in the AC adapter, the small LED next to the socket usually does not light up, but will flash briefly when the power cable is removed.  The AC adapter is fine, because I've used it to charge and run my dv5 with no problems.  If I unplug and then plug the AC adapter into the socket repeatedly, eventually at some random point the LED will stay on.
    However...
The battery light is slowly flashing.  It flashes anytime the AC adapter is plugged in (whether or not the LED next to the jack lights up).
The computer won't power up.  It tries to for a second or two, then shuts down... as if the battery was critically low.
Now the thing that puzzles me -- The computer won't start up on AC power without the battery installed.  I can do this on my dv5 with no problem.  It does not require the battery to be installed.  I figured if the battery is completely dead in the dv7, that it may be confusing the system and not allow it to start at all.  But, trying to start up the dv7 without a battery does absolutely nothing at all.
I'm hoping that the dv7 is designed to always work with a battery and that all I need to do is just install a new one.  Does that seem sensible?  I just don't want to buy one (they cost a whopping $140 from HP!) only to find that the computer is suffering from a more serious problem.

  • Startup Chimes with audio cable connected?

My Mini has started to sound it's healthy startup chime even when there is an audio cable connected to the audio/headphone output. The output works fine and sends audio to the speakers, but how can I mute the chime at startup?
Previously it always muted that sound with a cable connected and I believe it started chiming when I updated to 10.5.4.
    TIA.

The mini generates the startup chime via the internal speakers regardless of whether external speakers are connected or not - the necessary support for the hardware audio port isn't loaded until after the power-on self test (which is what generates the chime) so in common with the iMac range, the chime comes from the internal speakers.
The only way to mute the chime at startup is to set the Sound preference pane to Mute (check the 'Mute' box in the Sound Effects tab). There are also some utilities such as Startup Sound (http://www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~arcana/index.en.html) which variously succeed in muting the chime, though these tend to get broken with MacOS updates.

  • Is any Logic 8 (Studio) user able to open STP with audio units plug-ins?

All of my 3rd party audio units plug-ins work with Logic 8: UAD, Powercore, PSP, NomadFactory, and RND.
MainStage and WaveBurner open without any problems.
Soundtrack Pro will only open if all of my AU plug-ins are removed to a "Components (Disabled)" folder.
I tried adding a few AU back into the components folder. Some seem ok, but if STP crashes after more AU's are added, then those that previously passed inspection seem to then cause STP to crash on start up.
I've tried trashing the com.apple.soundtrackpro.plist, EffectsCache.plist with temporary benefit.
I would like to use STP for mastering Logic audio mixes before burning in WaveBurner. Isn't this one of the benefits of purchasing Logic Studio???
    What to do???

    A little patience pays off...
The problem is...the +_*&^%$#@!!! TC PowerCore plugins!!!
And I'm somebody who actually likes them.
After receiving a suggestion that the TC Assimilator in particular might be problematic, I decided to gradually add everything but TC plugs. STP is now well behaved. I tested the waters by adding TC ClassicVerb and MegaVerb. So far...OK. The TC ClassicVerb is one of the best out there besides the $699 TC VSS3.
I can live without the other TC stuff for right now.
Again, I really appreciated the support.

  • Sound to tv with audio cable

I have a 2009 Macbook 13 inch that I have gotten to connect to my Vizio TV through an HDMI cable for the picture. The guy at best buy told me I would need an audio cable from my macs headphone jack to my tv's audio spots. I hooked that up and nothing happened. Any help?

If you have the computer plugged in through the HDMI cable port on your TV, then the TV is trying to get the audio from that cable which it can't do because the Mac doesn't push sound through the HDMI.  When you are plugging the audio cable into the TV, you are probably plugging it into the audio input on a different video mode, which is why you aren't hearing anything through the TV because you can't select HDMI for video and another mode for the audio.

  • MDD G4 dual 867 won't power up with door closed

i am running my machine with 4 internal HDs. once was recently added, and upon doing so encountered a bizarre problem; with door open, and power on, if i close the door the machine goes into kernel panic. the machine will not power up with the door closed. so, i am sitting here with my machine's door open - the only way i can use it.
during trouble-shooting, i removed the drive recently installed and switched with another extra drive to see if the new drive was the culprit, and the same symptoms occurred. removing the additional 4th drive and trying with just 3 drives installed results in no problems.
    please help

Hi! Sounds to me like you have a wire that's getting pinched or one that has a pin that's loose and closing the case pulls it far enough to keep it from making contact. Tom

  • HT3964 My iMac is approx 3 years old. It suddenly won't power up. It was plugged in through a power surge preventer but there seems now to be no life at all. The fuse in the plug is fine.

iMac that won't power on, any advice please?

If there are no sounds or video at all it seems the power supply is dead. Take the machine in for service at your local Apple Store or AASP. Then when it's repaired connect the machine to  a uninterruptible power supply, you can purchase a good quality one for less than $100 at your local office supply store.
