Won't publish website to MobileMe

Just upgraded to '09, and I've only had this problem since upgrading. Every time I hit the "publish site" button it brings up a window asking me to sign up for MobileMe or sign in. Since I'm already a paying member, I hit "sign in". At which point the window closes and nothing is updated.
I've looked around this site and hadn't seen another thread started on this, and my MobileMe account is configured to host my own domain if that makes a difference.
Anyone having this annoying problem?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First try deleting the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist. Next, if needed, go to your System/MobileMe preference pane, log out, log in with a bogus name and password (to clear the field completely) and then log in with the correct username and password. Launch iWeb and try again.
If none of those work and you need to get the sit up and running, publish to a folder, mount your idisk and copy the site folder and accompanying index.html file to your iDisk/Web/Sites folder replacing the index.html and site folder that are currently there. A pain but at least you can get your site up and running. You may lose some features this way, like adding comments to blogs and photos.
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:
◼ Password protection
◼ Blog and photo comments
◼ Blog search
◼ Hit counter
◼ Enhanced slideshows
You lose them when publishing to a non-Mac server which requires publishing to a folder first. So if you publish to a folder and then upload to MMe manually I'm not sure which of those features, if any, would be lost.

  • ICal won't publish calendar to mobileMe... ideas?

I've used iCal for years but since the changeover to me.com I can't get my iCal calendars to publish. When I click on "Publish calendar" it says it's published successfully, but when I click on the visit page button I get "page not found" error message.
    Anybody have any ideas?
    MJM

    bnance,
...are you saying your published calendar can currently be accessed from your ical.me.com link and that just ours is not working or was your answer a theoretical one?
Mine works as advertised. I did have to unpublish, but that was in July. The calendar has auto published without problems since that time.
The common clue that I notice between the OP and your system is that neither has been updated to the most current version of OS X available for the Tiger/Leopard. I would therefore advise updating these systems using the appropriate Combo Update (OS X 10.4.11/OS X 10.5.5).
    Good Luck.

Wanting to move to single-click publishing (supported by MobileMe), I now find it is not supported by iCloud and Mountain Lion. I feel cheated, having bought it mainly for this purpose! The other thing they don't tell you is that Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac, and I am considering uninstalling it for that reason - do I get my money back?!

You stated; "Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac"
    That is not true.
Mountain Lion does not have Rosetta so it is not capable of executing PowerPC code. If you have MS Office 2004 that is coded in PowerPC code and will not run in Mountain Lion. What you need to do is upgrade to an Intel version of Office.

  • Site won't publish.. keeps opening the mobileme system pref pane.

when i click publish to .mac the mobileme section of the system prefs pops up asking me to sign in (or renew) even when i click "sign in" the site won't publish. i try to publish again, same cycle begins.

Where in iWeb do you see ".mac"? ...If you've upgraded to the latest iWeb v.2.0.4, everything should read "MobileMe" — not ".mac."
Is your MobileMe membership still active — or has it expired?

  • Won't publish my changes....

I use iWeb 09, published my site using MobileMe. It worked perfect. BUT now when I have made changes it won't publish my changes and the icons stays red. I tried Publish site, Publish site changes, Publish entire site. I successfully published my website to a folder on my HD. I updated Iweb, signed out of MobileMe, signed in tried again, over and over and over.... nothing works
    Need help!
    Thanks

Update: It's working now, for the time being. It's my experience that it's been working on and off for this past weekend up to now. I don't know if anyone else was experiencing problems in that time frame.
I spent that last weekend doing some significant changes to the site, adding a new logo, background and that coverflow animation you see on all the root pages. The site is comprised of 11 pages and 5 blogs, with many entires in each of those 5 blogs. I affected changes to each page, including all the blog entries, and then tried to publish yesterday morning. I think that's when the trouble really started, because I was publishing a high volume of pages at once – MobileMe doesn't seem to like that. This is when I started trying to move the pages to a new site within iWeb, which eventually crashed the program and caused all my early entries in all 5 blogs to get corrupted (that's what I'm calling it at least, because if I clicked on those entries I just got a blank white screen, and if I tried to publish before deleting them I got the "An Unknown Error Occurred" message each time).
What I'm interested in is your suggestion to use Cyber Duck. I've ran into this suggestion before on these forums and so, yesterday, I downloaded Cyber Duck, but am totally clueless on how to use it. I know nothing about FTP but would like to know if A.) will the site load faster going through an FTP service like Cyber Duck or (the other one I hear about a lot) Web Maestro; and B.) If it will make the site load faster, how complicated is the change over and could someone walk a FTP illiterate person like me through the process. I update the site daily and so I can't complicate the process of publishing too much. I hear Web Maestro has selective publishing, maybe that's the way to go?
Also, I've disabled comments on my site anyway, so no fear of that.
Sorry this ran a little long.

  • Links in published website don't work.

The majority of links in my published website (both online and when published to a folder) won't work. However, unpublished they work fine. The navigation bar and picture links fail, except for the first two pages. I've checked to make sure the links are forwarded to the front.
    http://web.mac.com/melaniermaxwell
    Any thoughts?

Ok, I checked that one and it didn't work for me too.
    So these are my thoughts:
-I think you protected your photos by putting a textfield or a shape in front of the photos and that one is covering the links and that's why they don't work. If you didn't protect them you might however have something in front of the links. Move it a bit downward so that it is on the photo put not on the links or delete it.
-There aren't any other photos to link to and that's why they are disabled.
However I think it's the first one because I get a strange highlighted area when I try to highlight.
If it's none if these I'm out of ideas, sorry! Maybe someone else has some more...

    Cédric

  • IWeb 08 won't publish

    iWeb 08 version 2.0.4
I was registered with MobileMe and had a MacMail email account, but when Apple decided to end MobileMe and replace with iCloud, my IT person said not to upgrade to iCloud as there could be conflicts with my software.
I managed to retain my MacMail accounts which are working fine now, and I did follow the instructions for iWeb before the changeover.
Since the changeover from MobileMe to iCloud, I find that I can no longer publish iWeb, and when I try to access my website on Safari it comes up with 'Service not available'.
I have been in touch with my IT person and my web hosting company and have spent the last few days trying to get this sorted, all to no avail.
When I try to publish my iWeb site, a dialog box comes up with 'Publish your website to MobileMe" and then it takes me to iCloud and of course it cannot be published. Does this mean I'll never be able to make any more changes to my website? I could just live with that, or would it be worth considering upgrading to iWeb 09 or is that very painful? I'm very concerned that if I did upgrade to iWeb 09 from 08, that all my pages might change drastically.
Hope someone can help me please through this very traumatic time.
    Thanks

Its hardly worth your while upgrading to iWeb V3 since a lot of the features are redundant now that MobileMe has closed...

For less than the cost of an out of date iLife disk with iWeb V3 you can buy a new application that is actually being developed!
In the meantime, publishing your website to a local folder has the added advantage of allowing you to add tags for SEO ...

  • IWeb won't Publish Site

    Hi,
Everything works fine until I add a flash music video or any video to the page then it won't Publish. But if I remove the videos from the page it will Publish. (this is not an embed code but instead a link set up from the hyperlink menu when I click on the "inspector" dialog box.
Or should I instead use the embed code from my upload site?
Has this something to do with memory? I followed the advice that was posted on another "help" column to change the memory setting in the MobileMe page for iDisk, but that didn't work either.

  • How to publish website from iWeb ?

    Hi Apple Geniuses
I have downloaded Server 2.1.1 thought I would be able to publish my website after losing MobileMe hosting. I would love to publish it again but the process with Server seems to be more complicated, not to say...less straight forward. I have tried some couple of thing but unsuccessfully.
Would anyone of you recommend the step to follow using Server software only (and not recommending any third party website please) to enable the publishing of my website. Alternatively , does anyone would recommend tutorial on how to use Server to publish website.
To all of you, in advance, Thank you.
    Fred

    Hi Mark
I grately appreciate your support and the first couple of steps were easy to follow. However , I'm quite puzzled with the last paragraph in regard to DNS, DynIP, CNAME...
When I have allocated the folder , it did change the TCP from 80 to 443 and I manually reset it to 80...is that where you told to direct the TCP to?
Here is a snap shot of my setting
Let me know if I'm going the right route thank you.

  • How to edit a published website

I've looked around and can't figure out how to get into my published website in order to make changes or add photos. Probably an easy question for someone to answer for me.
    thanks a bunch

Okay. So if you have published to MobileMe and you have published your site already, you cannot update a published site.
As you created your site in iWeb, iWeb stores all its files under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb and you want the domain.sites file in iWeb.
If you want to update your site and alter text and add more photos, as you seem to want to do, then you need to go back into iWeb to do this, so it is the domain.sites file that you need. Amend your site within iWeb and then go to file and click on Publish to MobileMe and your site will be updated automatically and will be re-published in that format, so there is no need to alter a published site.

  • Cant publish website

I am trying to publish a website for a friend who has created the site on iWeb 9.0. The site is finished but the publish site button is greyed out (along with the visit button). All I am trying to do is publish to a folder as once it is there I know what to do. Why is iWeb being so difficult, I a windows user though mac prided itself on being simplistic in its use.
    Fixes to this issue?

Have you tried clicking on the name of the website at the top left? Where the different pages within the website are listed? You should be able to select how you want to publish the page (MobileMe, FTP, or Folder). Then maybe it will let you publish?
I'm not an expert by any means! Just wanted to give a thought.

  • Suddenly impossible to publish site to mobileme

    Hi everyone,
Both my mother and I have a site, made on iWeb and published to our MobileMe account —both totally apart: she's in France, I in Chile— and we both have been having the same problem for a couple of months: when we want to publish new content, we get a "publishing error" message and no new content is uploaded.
Has anyone else experimented the same trouble? Does anyone have a clue about what's going on? My mom consulted an Apple reseller, and he couldn't find what it was...
    Thanks,
    Bonnie

There should be no need at all to re-build your site? Why did the Apple rep tell you this?
.Mac as it was and MobileMe have absolutely nothing to do with re-building your site at all. To build your site you use iWeb. iWeb is a web authoring package and that is where it ends - you use this to build your site and then publish and that is it. It has nothing to do with MobileMe which is separate and is the Apple server that hosts your site.
If you have a domain name, then the fix for your problem is probably as simple as going to your domain name registrars website and going to the DNS setting and altering your CNAME forwarding from web.mac.com to web.me.com.
Also, .Mac because MobileMe at least three years ago now. Are you really saying that you have not updated your site in 3 years? All the upgrades etc., were dealt with via the software updates, so it was not a dramatic switch - the .Mac disappeared and then the MobileMe cloud appeared in its place. All you should have to do is go and alter all your settings from web.mac.com to web.me.com and that should fix your problem.
There should be no reason to re-build your website at all, unless you want to of course.
Sometimes, I do wonder about the Apple reps and what they tell people!

  • Can't publish anything to MobileMe

Suddenly, I am unable to publish anything to MobileMe.
I had been working on some sites, publishing changes. Then iWeb-09 stopped publishing the changes. Pages remain RED, although iWeb-09 goes through the motions of publishing and gives me the dialog telling me that the site has been published.
I've tried restoring a back up of the Domain file, but it still won't publish.
I've tried making a totally new site (adding a 'new site' to my list of sites and simply using a blank template). No go. It won't publish.
I have no network problems. I can see network traffic uploading and downloading.
Anyone else experiencing problems at the moment?? Or any suggestions of what may be causing the problem?

    Micahel,
Did you ever get this fixed? It's killing me to! OMG! This is my post:

    publish website at icloud ?
me.com has been closed and icloud is running,
i have icloud id, i want to publish website via iweb but its not working, not showing option to publish at icloud, please help me
    i have Macbook Pro 13''
    2.3 intel core i5
    320GB
    4GB
    Mountain Lion 10.8.2

iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.
