Won't recognize my router/adapter

I am at a loss as to what to do.
Problem - my desktop will not recognize my wireless Linksys router.
The main computer in the bedroom is hardwired to the cable. My desktop in the living room is on a wireless router, not hardwired. Last night we had to restart the cable modem. The router seems to be working, but my desktop will not access it. Says the adapter is disabled and I cannot find a way to enable it. I was going to uninstall the driver and re-install and it won't find the driver in "add/remove programs" for me to do that.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your adapter is disable simply right click on My Network Places, check under LAN see if there is an red X.  If yes, right click and select 'enable'.

So please inform us the IP address that you are receiving on the computer that is attached with it.... Try to reset the router and power cycle the whole network and then check connectivity....

  • Doesn't recognize the power adapter. Have replaced battery and PRAM.

    Howdy,
I'm having a devil of a time with my Powerbook. It won't recognize a power adapter.
    It won't charge my battery.
Won't run when plugged into the power adapter.
The only way it works is for me to charge my battery in my girlfriend's Powerbook and then sprint through any work I try to get done.
I've replaced the PRAM with twice. (one i bought and the other I took from my girlfriend's which I 100% know to work) It didn't make a difference.

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
There's only 4 components in the charging circuit: power adapter, DC-in card, battery, and logic board. Do you know for a fact that your power adapter is working? If yes, then not running on the power adapter says either the DC-in card is bad (the card that has the jacks on the left side of the computer) or it's a logic board issue. Is the female jack where you plug the power adapter in visibly damaged, loose, or the case around the socket damaged? If the socket is wiggly loose, likely a new DC-in card is in order. Does the power adapter light up at all when you plug it in?
We had a similar, but not exact, situation recently on one of our Powerbooks, and ended up taking it to the Apple store, where they sent it to the Apple depot for repair. They replaced the logic board and put a new battery in. The Depot service returns the machine with anything needing repair, repaired. If everything is in good physical order, ie the case isn't damaged, it costs around $325, which is less than getting a new logic board put in at the store. If the case is damaged, a trip to the Apple depot costs more. A new DC-in card card + installation by Apple runs around $130, give or take. Used DC-in cards run around $75-$95 if you want to install it yourself.

Lol, figured out the first part. Just for those who may be searching, when you click on the Display Preferences, and click on the arraingment tab... it not only shows where your two screens will be displayed, but the WHITE BAR at the top of one screen is the dock/toolbar. Click and hold to grab this and just slide it over to the screen you'd like it to be on.
You have to release it IN the screen box, not on top of it... and it should pop right over to the new (or old) screen. At any rate, you can put the dock on either (or any) screen that you prefer.
I am thinking of ordering more of these. Lol. 3 monitor setup seems like it would be crazy good.
Still looking for the answer to keeping the new 16" screen on the right without switching between screen #s with that... not expose... Lion feature.
Thanks. Hope my other question has an answer out here.

  • Won't recognize router

We did some renovations and changed the place of the router and modem.  The modem is working fine as my desktop is hardwired and I have internet and it is working fine.  We have two wireless laptops and neither one of the will recognize the router, although I can hook up to our neighbours unsecured line, so I know my laptops are both working.  Any ideas what to do to "reset" the router so it can be recognized???  We have held the reset button for (on the back - push in with a pen) for 5 seconds and that didn't work.

As you resetted the router, you need to reconfigure the router from scratch.

  • Deskjet 3050 won't recognize wireless network anymore.

    Product:  HP Deskjet 3050
    Operating system:  Windows 7-64 bit
Printer quit printing wirelessly.  Using the control panel on the printer, I restored defaults.  Now it won't recognize any wireless networks.  I have unplugged computer, but that didn't help.  I don't want to unplug my router, because I will lost all my DVR items (we are on AT&T uverse).  Any tips?

Run a Wireless Network Test from the Network menu of the front panel.  What does it say?
If everything is OK (which I suspect), re-install the printer with the temporary use of a USB cable just as you did originally when you installed it.

  • HP Envy 5530 - computer won't recognize that the printer is on the same network

    Product Name: HP ENVY 5530
    OS: Windows 8.1
No changes made to system before issue occured
I bought this wireless printer last week (5-13-14). I have a working printer that was connected to my husband's work laptop via USB cable, but needed one to connect to our family computer, which is in a different room with the modem/router. My husband travels for work, so I want to be able to print without disturbing him and while he is away on business. I turned the printer on and connected it to my network with the password and printed out the network settings and the wireless report. There are about 8 other wireless networks in range of my printer (we're in a residential neighborhood), but we aren't having a problem with it connecting to someone elses stuff. I went online to download the driver software and it downloaded fine. I clicked on the desktop icon to launch the control panel for the printer and it opened up for me to install the printer. I went through every step and it won't recognize the IP address or the name of the printer, and therefore won't open up for me to do any scanning. Both the printer and PC are connected to the same network, but they won't recognize each other when it comes to going through the HP software to scan or print. I can go into word or something to print and it will let me print wirelessly, but it won't do anything from the control panel of the print software because it thinks the printer hasn't been installed. I've had Windows 8 on this computer since I bought it in 2012, but I have the computer defaulted to go to my desktop instead of the start screen, so I don't know if that makes a difference. I am going to go ahead and remove the device and uninstall everything so I can try again later. If I had known this was going to be a problem, I would have not bought the printer and just kept on doing what we'd been doing.

    Hello SarahD_07,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand you are having some troubles getting the Envy 5530 printing wireless on Windows 8.1. Are you able to take the I.P address of the 5530, type it into the address bar of your web browser and hit enter. Does it load a page about the printer?
Run the Print and Scan Dr to see if it can clear up the scanning issues if you can view that above page.

  • Envy 17 HDMI won't recognize mutliple displays

I've got a brand new HP Envy 17 j000 Quad Edition laptop.Device manager is showing two display adapters - one for the onboard intel HD graphics and one for the nVidia 740 GT adapter. When I try to connect an external monitor via the display port (HDMI) on the monitor, the system won't recognize it. Two questions:
Why is the internal Intel HD Graphics taking precedence over the nVidia? Typically I would set up multiple displays by this driver, but the Intel HD is the one showing the access ports - and only recognizing the internal connection and a VGA connection (which this system doesn't have).
Is there a preferred connection method - VGA/DVI/DIsplay port? I have the correct display port adapter and a new HDMI cable - both are new.
    thanks -  David B.

It may not directly solve your issue; it should help a bit with the background you might need to find a resolution.

Single External Monitor - that is, connect one external monitor to your computer
Sometimes the issue is simply resolution - you might therefore be able to duplicate the main computer screen, but not extend it over to the external monitor.

  • Updated iTunes to 10.3.1 and now it won't recognize my iPod

I recently updated my iTunes to the latest version, and  now it won't recognize any of my apple products. I have a first gen iPod touch, 4th gen. ipod nano and 5th gen. ipod nano. The ipod does work still, and is chargeable through a dock or a AC adapter. I've gone through all of the five Rs and reinstalled itunes, and nothing is working. My ipod won't show up in windows either. When I plug in my 5th gen nano, windows says the driver did not install sucessfully and itunes won't even acknowledge I've plugged it in. Any help would be fantastic, I'd really appreciate it. I put new music on my ipod all the time, and not being able to do so *****.

Well yesterday I finally broke down and called apple service... I spent $29 and 1.5 hours on the phone, but the operator was finally able to fix my ipod. There was an issue with the itunes update, and it had corrupted. After uninstalling, installing, and updating several drivers, programs, and resolving other issues, my iPod finally works. Even better, the operator gave me a way to contact him again if I am having issues, free of charge. I would have much rather fixed this myself without spending the additional money, but I'll admit there was no way I could've done what he did, as there were certain orders to uninstalling Apple programs. My advice? Bite the bullet and call. They will get your iPad working again. (:

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 won't recognize secure home network

Hi, just got an HP Officejet Pro. Setup went great, except for a snafu with our home network: it won't recognize it, even when I manually enter the name and password. It will however recognize our unsecured guest network. I temporarily set it up on that, but I'd rather be using the secured home network. I've run the wizard several times, reset to factory settings, all with the same result. Help?

    Hi,
The issue could be due to the the Encryption level used in the router. You can try the solution available here

  • I changed the drive letter on my iPod and now iTunes won't recognize it!

Help please! I contacted an Apple associate and they told me to change the drive letter of my iPod in My Computer. I did that and now iTunes won't recognize my iPod at all and I can't change the drive letter back to the original one. What do I do?

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.

  • AppleTV won't recognize signal

AppleTV won't recognize WiFi signal.  The  base is 50 ft. away with 2 walls.  Is this too far and if so, can I put a NetGear router connected to the modem with a firewire half way?

    Hello hbirkie,
I recommend you take a look at this article named Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4546
You can resolve many Wi-Fi issues by checking your network connection settings. You can view or adjust these by selecting Settings > General > Network on Apple TV:
If you discover that you aren't connected to a network, the signal strength is low, or some of these settings are incorrect or blank, try the following steps:
Ensure that Apple TV is within range of your Wi-Fi router or base station.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable/DSL modem are connected to power and turned on.
Make sure other devices (computers, iPhone, iPad, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Check your Wi-Fi network settings on Apple TV:
Select Settings > General > Network > Wi-Fi and press the center button on the remote to display nearby networks.
Choose your Wi-Fi network from the list.
If your Wi-Fi network uses a password, make sure you are entering it correctly.
Restart your Apple TV by selecting Settings > General > Restart.
Try restarting your Wi-Fi router or modem by turning it off and then on again.
If possible, connect an Ethernet cable and verify your Internet connection. If you can connect to the Internet using an Ethernet connection, verify that your Apple TV is using the latest software by selecting Settings > General > Software Update. If your Apple TV can be updated, install the update and then try the steps again. If the above steps did not resolve your Wi-Fi issue, click the symptom below to display more detailed troubleshooting steps.
If you're unable to see your Wi-Fi network
Select Settings > General > Network > Wi-Fi and check if you can see any Wi-Fi networks. If you can see other Wi-Fi networks, the issue may be isolated to your Wi-Fi network.
Check for any obstructions and adjust the location of your router or Apple TV; also check for sources ofpotential interference.
If your Wi-Fi network is configured as closed or private, it will not broadcast the network name to Wi-Fi devices. You can join a closed or private network by selecting Settings > General > Network > Wi-Fi > Otherand entering the Wi-Fi network name, security, and password.
Try restarting your Wi-Fi router or modem by turning it off and then on again.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware. For an AirPort Base Station, refer to this article for information about firmware updates. For third-party Wi-Fi routers, check the manufacturer's website for details on updating your firmware.
Verify that other devices can see and connect to your Wi-Fi network. If other devices cannot connect to your Wi-Fi network, contact your router manufacturer.
If after attempting the above steps, your Apple TV still cannot see any Wi-Fi networks and other devices are able to see and connect to your Wi-Fi network:
Restart your Apple TV: Select Settings > General > Restart.
If you can connect to the Internet using an Ethernet connection, verify that your Apple TV is using the latest software by selecting Settings > General > Software Update. If your Apple TV can be updated, install the update and test again.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • WRT54GX2 setup won't recognize PPPoE

Hello, I have a computer (Windows XP) running DSL on PPPoE, no modem, the cable goes straight from the wall to the PC. I have a WRT54GX2 that usually works fine. However, installation of the router fails as of late.
I remember when I started the setup wizard, in the very first steps it would warn me that I was on a PPPoE connection. Installation would go fine and everything worked. Now, when using the setup wizard CD (and the updated version from this site) I don't get a window telling me I am on a PPPoE connection, and somehow I knew the installation would fail. Alas, it did.
So, I downloaded the EasyLink software and when running it I've got a windows telling me I was on a PPPoE connection. Installation went fine. Now I have to reinstall the router again, but I didn't get the PPPoE message when running the EasyLink setup. Installation failed, it won't detect the router. Anybody knows why is this happening?? Why won't the wizard recognize PPPoE?? Thanks.
Why is PPPoE connections so troublesome? argh!

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly
the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the
router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power
cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable
to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug
in the power cable to the router & then try setting up the DSL connection for the router & check out it will definately work!!

  • Setup won't detect the router

Every time i run setup(on both my PCs), it won't recognzie the router. I have all the cables hooked up correctly, and even my USB adapter on my other PC is on the network. The problem is that one cannot access the internet. The router i bought is legal,i purchased it at Wal-Mart. Can someone here help me?

As you are using USB adapter on VISTA Operating System…..try to download the updated drivers ( If available) on http://linksys.com/vista  …..  remove the older drivers from programs & features in control panel….check if it works or not.
