Won't reset home page

The iBook came with Entourage home page set to Google. No matter how I try, I cannot make a change to another home page stick.(Safari>Preferences>Home page). I have tried entering the address of the home page page I want, and also entering that address on the command line and then choosing "set to current page." Neither works and next time Google re-appears! Even re-starting has no effect. Am I missing a step?

I checked on my iBook G3 800 MHz which still has Mac OS X 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3.2. Setting the Home Page works fine on it.
Are you choosing "Use Home Page" from the drop-down "New windows open with:" menu after entering the page you want to use as your Home Page? I have tried both entering the URL and "Set to Current Page" and am able to select my Home Page and have a new window open to that Home Page either way.
Personally, I prefer having a new page open to an empty page, so that's the way I have mine set. Are you able to set it to do that?

  • Safari redirected to giveaway site (free IPAD etc.), cannot reset home page

    On a new (3 day old) IMac Safari is automatically opening with a 'Giveaway' site that I cannot for the life of me eliminate. It looks like I may have picked it up when I accidentally misspelled Google when I was setting my homepage. Now I cannot reset the homepage, and I assume this site uses the misspelling as a gateway to load whatever it is that is causing the redirection, Scanning with ivirus, McAfee, and Norton has not resulted in detection. Any ideas or help?

    As for your homepage, try troubleshooting the Safari plist file.
    Quit Safari if it's open.
    Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
    Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
    Launch Safari. If you can set your home page now, move that .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
    If that didn't help, from your Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 boxes, click Reset.
    FYI...  Norton / Symantec has been the cause of Safari crashing for years. Try a search in this forum to see the results. If you insist on having a/v software installed, keep McAfee but try uninstalling Norton. Most users end up having to erase the hard drive and start over. One a/v software installed is one thing, but two is overkill and will slow that brand new Mac drive down to a crawl. Scanning for a virus won't do any good. There aren't any Mac viruses.
    It's probably Norton that is causing the re directs or your ISP.

  • Just new to Dreamweaver cs5 / Deleting a recent Item / Resetting home page

    Hello
          I am new to dreamweaver cs5.  Just purchased the software and teaching myself the basics.  I have created several recent projects and would I like to clean up, delete them and start all over again.  Also have  lost dreamweavers home page and don't know how to reset it.  If anyone can please help.   Is there an easy way to go about this?     Thank you Jon.

    Hi,
    To delete recent files in your file list try the following :
    On Windows, it's a setting in the Windows registry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Dreamweaver\Recent File List
    Select each file, right-click and select Delete.
    DW must be closed befoire doing this.
    If you are unfamiliar with the Registry (be careful !!!!!!), you can access it by executing the following:
    Start > Run > REGEDIT > OK
    To show (or hide) the Welcome Screen, go to your preference, General Category and chock (or uncheck) the first one.
    Hope this help !

  • Safari sometimes won't launch home page under Lion

    I installed Lion a few days ago, and the Safari started to behave in an erratic way. When launched, it sometimes opens the home page that I've set in preferences, but sometimes it opens the page that I was reading just before I quitted Safari last time. This is very inconvenient. What can I do to make sure that Safari always opens the home page when I launch it? Thanks to all who can help!

    I installed Lion this past weekend and am having the same issue.  I see that no one has rendered any suggestions or helpful tips to correct the problem, which makes me wonder if its just a few customers have this problem or what.  But I agree its annoying as can be.
    Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?  I have set and reset my homepage preferences many many time with no luck.  Help!

    What '''''is''''' the web page that has taken over the homepage feature?

  • When I try to set my homepage to a specific website, firefox will not store permanently. I have to reset home page each time I open firefox. are there additional instructions in help to address this?

    Each time I open firefox, it doesn't open to my previously set website (Yahoo). I have to reset the homepage each time I open firefox despite following the help menu method. I'm not able to locate a possible cause/solution on the help menu. pls advise

    Please do the following.<br><br>
    * In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.<br><br>
    * In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''<br><br>
    * Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=<br><br>
    The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "''Copy Link Location''" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
    '''To reset your home page, do the following'''.<br><br>
    * Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.<br><br>
    * Click the orange Firefox button and go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''.<br><br>
    * Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.<br><br>
    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.<br><br>
    After you complete the above steps, install this add-on to prevent another search engine from modifying your preferences: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/browserprotect/

  • Can't reset home page

    I am on my second Pearl since the first one wouldn't let me reset the home page. I have talked to customer service number and they finally had me get a new one but it is doing the same thing. She told me that you can't use anything with a zip code in the URL. Ok, so I tried google.com or espn.com. It says that the home page is changed and I save it but when I close the brower down and come back into it, it reverts back to mobile.blackberry.com.
    Any ideas on how to fix this? They say that I should be able to change it.
    Thanks

    Hi and welcome to the forums!
    I am a Verizon customer, the home page is not reset by the service books. I set up Google as my home page from day one.
    On my 8330 Verizon with 4.3 device software I went into book marks, and collapsed the first group of bookmarks
    go to BROWSER OPEN MENU KEY BOOKMARKS there is a plus or minus by links and blackberry Bookmarks, CLick to make them PLUS. Press menu key - options Browser configuration scroll to the bottom and make the home page address whatever you want. Use the Format http://www.whatever.com or you can go to the website from your browser,
    press options, browser configuration, scroll to the very bottom if the page and select USE CURRENT.
    You can send service books to your self!
    Login in to your BIS site ( I put a link to it on the bottom)
    In the upper left hand of the screen it says send service books,
    You will get an email when they are received.
    Try it, and let me know!

  • Only Safari won't show home page image

    Helo
    Having problems with home page image showing in only Safari (
    www.truthandlife.info ). May be a css problem, but I don't know...
    Originally, we had to alter the drop down menu becasue it
    wouldn't work on Safari, so a friend fixed that but that fix took
    away the main image - he writes:
    "I found some other information that suggested setting the
    ClientTarget attribute to “uplevel” when you detect the
    Safari or Opera browsers.
    I went ahead and implemented that by creating a base class
    called BasePage (in the App_Code folder) and made every page load
    derive from it using the “Inherits” parameter. This
    seemed to solve the problem on Safari (I don’t have Opera)
    without affecting IE7. Note that all new pages you create need to
    have the Inherits=”BasePage” tag set in their
    <Page> element.
    So all is good in that the submenus pop up as we would
    expect…but there is a problem with the graphic on the default
    page. The main image doesn’t load on the Safari browser
    unless I remove that ClientTarget=”uplevel” statement.
    If I remove it, then the menus don’t work."

    So does anyone know what might be the problem and/or fix?
    Thanks

    Still trying of course - so
    I redid that alternate masthead for ie5.5 and updated the
    link - yes, now the ALTERNATE banner shows but NOT the image I
    need, which DOES still show in other browsers. Only in Safari does
    the alternate masthead now show, but not the main masthead needed.
    Below is the code that directs the alternate image for ie 5.5
    but why would this affect Safari?
    =============
    using System;
    using System.Data;
    using System.Configuration;
    using System.Collections;
    using System.Web;
    using System.Web.Security;
    using System.Web.UI;
    using System.Web.UI.WebControls;
    using System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts;
    using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls;
    public partial class DefaultPage : BasePage
    protected void Page_LoadComplete(object sender, EventArgs e)
    if (!IsCallback)
    // IE 5.5 isn't able to render the dynamic menu items
    correctly if
    // the size of the header image is too large. To work around
    this problem,
    // IE 5.5 gets a different header image than the other
    browsers.
    if (Request.Browser.Id == "ie55")
    mastheadImg.ImageUrl =
    String.Format("~/Images/homepage/masthead9.jpg", Page.Theme != null
    ? Page.Theme : Page.StyleSheetTheme);
    mastheadImg.Height = 206;
    litHeaderHeight.Text = "206px";
    ===============
    Coupled with the BASE page code in my previous post, maybe
    there's a fix in one of these?
    Any thoughts?

  • Safari won't hold Home Page change

    I change the homepage to Google, it stays maybe 2-3 times in future sign-ons, then reverts back to apple start page default. Why will Safari not hold a home page selection??

    Thanks, Yes, I have run all the software updates, including the latest 10.5.2. I do not have any other browser other than Safari as a default. It will only hold my home page change for 2 or 3 logon's then reverts back to apple.com default page.
    It does not do this with my wife's Macbook, just my Macbook Pro.
    Why would a software update screw it up?

  • Unable to reset home page - no "general" tab in "Preferences"

    Im attempting to reset my homepage from apple.com to Google. Help tells me to click "Preferences" from Safari file menu and then select the "General" tab. However, when I do this - there is no "General" tab - only settings for "Bookmarks".
    There are no accounts on this macbook - no admin etc.
    Im a total newcomer to Macs. Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong?

    Hi Encise,
    Welcome to the Apple discussions forum for users to users.
    Open Safari Preferences again ... now look for a little grey pill shape on the upper right corner, click on it. It's possible that all of the pictograms are hidden.
    Good luck ...
