Won't Save Drafts in Mail

I've seen various problems reported with the Draft mailbox...
My problem, very similar to other recent reports-- My drafts disappear (after closing and reopening Mail). My drafts have been faithfully saved for years, until recently ,until 10.5.4. I think it is 10.5.5 where the problem began for me. Manually saving also fails to save a draft in the Draft box.
Exception to this-- A very unsatisfactory work around is to -- Search one's name (official name in computer) and arrange the results by date-- There i find my currently lost messages, sorted by date.
Please fix Mail, and all the vital basics, instead of adding so much useless fluff, in each major upgrade

Hello boa:
I recommend you send your suggestions to Apple via the OS X feedback facility. These forums are user to user and are not the best way to feed Apple suggestions.
I would, if I were you, rebuild the mailbox (draft) that is causing problems. Since I have never encountered the problem you posted, I have not had any troubleshooting experience in that area.

  • TextEdit won't save draft documents

Just like the title says; I have a number of draft documents I have started in TextEdit and when I try to save the File menu highlights but it just times out with no save. I also can't  close the window without saving; it does the same thing. I tried deleting preference files and restarting but that didn't help.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
    Test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Firefox won't save my Yahoo mail passwords, but Explorer will.

Firefox used to save passwords for yahoo Mail, but lately does not seem to be working. I have 2 mail accounts and passwords with Yahoo. I have read through and clicked all the things about allowing passwords to be saved but nothing is working. I do not have this problem with Explorer. If this is just something that Yahoo has done to shut out Firefox then so be it, but if there is something that can be done I would appreciate the help.
I read through other Q&A's on this, looks like a big problem all over, but many of the so-called solutions about bookmarks, etc I can't understand what to do. Many say "solved" but I do not see any solution.

I do not know the answer, I asked on a Yahoo forum last week. I did try a bookmarklet. I did see another computer able to save passwords. Neither were my computers and the computers used GoogleChrome. I suspect Yahoo may have upped security at some stage. I do not have a Yahoo account myself. I also noted GoogleChrome does not use a master password so all passwords are visible.
I comment as an edit because an unanswerd question will get a faster solution. I will move this to a separate answer once someone else answers.

Now moving the comment to an ordinary post.
I guess in fact it may be Google Chrome that blocks the bookmarklet action. Not Yahoo.

  • Apple El Capitan Beta 4 won't save outgoing POP mail server

Oops... it's actually El Capitan beta 10.11 that I'm using. And I should also add that I've carefully copied the ingoing and outgoing ports and SSL info from GoDaddy, and as many times as I've typed all that in, I'm sure that not every effort contained a typo. I also went into Mail settings, per someone's suggestion, and changed "false" to "true" in the line: "allow unsecured...". It didn't seem to have any effect.

Using the new Apple Mail program in 10.10 beta 4, try as I will, as many times as I will, checking then unchecking "Automatically detect..." (suggested by someone else), when I try to add my GoDaddy outgoing mail server to the list of those available, when I "save", and then go back, it's gone. Time after time after time. I can receive e-mail just fine, so I know I'm hitting GoDaddy's "pop.secureserver.net" just fine. It's hitting "smtpoutsecureserver.net" that I can't do, because I cant get this version of Mail to save the dang thing. HELP!!!!

  • Cannot Save Drafts

Two of my four IMAP email accounts will not Save Drafts using Mail. The two that I'm having trouble with were re-setup recently. So I must have done something different.
    Any ideas?

Check what browser they're using, and what OS they're using, too. Think you'll find the difference.. .
Then open a tech support case to get hotfix 2.04 (due out Monday)

  • Mail in Yosemite won't save subject of emails in draft folder

Recently updated to Yosemite. Ever since, many or most times if I create a new email and want to save it in the drafts folder, the subject field will be blank (even though it's not blank in the actual email if opened), or it will show only a portion of the subject. Creating another new email and trying again often works, but of course this shouldn't be necessary. It also won't save changes if the subject field of a draft email is edited.
I've searched and found a few other reports of this behavior in Mail since Mavericks came out, but no suggested fixes or solutions.
In case it matters, the email accounts are POP, not IMAP, and the only plugin being used is MailHub.
Anyone else seeing this happen, or know more about it? Any way to know if Apple has acknowledged this as a bug and/or has a workaround for it?
    Thanks.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Mail won't save info in Subject field in Drafts folder

    Hi,
For some reason, Mail won't save what I type into the Subject field for messages in the Drafts folder.
    Why?
I can save in any other field for any message in the Drafts folder... This has been going on for awhile, both with Mavericks and Yosemite though it worked earlier with Mavericks.
    Cheers,
    John L
OSX 10.10.1, MacBook Pro, Mail 8.1.
(Apple hasn't updated the list of OS's yet so it says 10.10 below...)

Sounds like a limit of your ISP, as it's trying to put it back on the mailserver, which may not accept such a large file.

  • Won't save message as Draft

Mail won't save messages as Draft
just says message cannot be saved.
    Same after reboot.
In fact I am also getting an error message when composing emails "message cannot be saved"
    any suggestions please
    thanks
    Pete

    Hi Peter,
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.

HI, I just got a Macbook Pro.  It's great but my mail doesn't work at all.  It will come up correctly, but take forever to download messages,  then won't delete them,  then won't save them to folders.  Then when I go to quit mail it's like it gets stuck between quitting and not.  I have to force quit, then restart my computer if I want to pull up my mail again.  How can I fix this?

If you just got your new MBP you have phone support from Apple (which is quite good) call them.  800-692-7753 tell the automated answerer "mail technical support" you'll have human quite quickly.  Hope this helps.

  • Image won't save in my e-mail signature

Hoping someone can help me, I have tried adding an image to my e-mail signature by going into mail preferences and then dragging and dropping and image into an existing mail signature that I have created previously.
The thing is, every time I close mail and open it back up again the image never is saved to my e-mail signature.
The account I have set-up is link hosted by GoDaddy with my own domain name.
I have 5 accounts set-up and each account has it's own assigned mail signature.
I don't know why the image won't save in my e-mail signature????

I am having this same issue.  I am not using a pic or html.  Its just Text.   This is on my .ME Email Account.

  • What can I do to fix Mail software, which does not allow me to move messages around, save "drafts", receive or send messages?

My "Mail" software looks to have become corrupted, as I can't move messages around, save "drafts", receive or send messages.  The problem occurred after my Mac crashed and was re-started. Any ideas on what can I do to fix this? Any good suggestions appreciated!

The Mail program is probably not what is corrupted. That would be extremely difficult because it is not written back to disk. The problem is likely in your user data.
You could check that by logging into a different account (make one if you don't) and set up Mail in that account. If it works fine in that account then you have a problem in your user data.
To reinstall Mail, you'll have to get out your Snow Leopard install DVD and check if it is part of the Optional Installs. If it is not, you could use a program called Pacifist to extract the Mail installer. You'd then have to install the 10.6.7 combo Update to bring Mail up to current version.
What are the permissions on your Mail folder? Post output of this command you run in Terminal (just copy and paste):
    ls -ale ~/Library/Mail
ls is List. -a tells it to show hidden files/folder. l tells it to make a list with details. e tells it to list Access Control List entries.

  • Apple mail won't save outgoing server port...? Odd symptom.

Each time I close Mail, the SMTP port reverts to 25. I can enter a new port, but Mail won't save that port info. I have to re-enter after opening Mail each time.
    Symptom goes like this:
Open Mail, then when sending 1st message after opening app an error "cannot send mail using selected server" appears. I need to go into the settings & switch the port from the default port that is displayed (25), to 3535. After doing that & clicking ok, closing the window, the password dialog box appears & mail sends just fine. Every other message from that point will send.
Close Mail, then reopen. Have to repeat same process again.

Two weeks later (after post, above)
I Solved the Problem - I reinstalled Mac OSX 10.6.6 (It was rather painless)
My Mail is working again. Safari now also again remembers passwords.
Also, my Aperture's Mail export also works. (Mail is no longer grayed out).

  • Mountain Lion won't allow me to save photos from Mail directly to iPhoto (as you could in all other recent OSX).  Tried opening iPhoto and then click/drag each photo onto iPhoto icon on dock (as Help instructed) but the photo will not drag.  Suggestions?

Mountain Lion won't allow me to save photos from Mail directly to iPhoto (as you could in all other recent OSX).  Tried opening iPhoto and then click/drag each photo onto iPhoto icon on dock (as Help instructed) but the photo will not drag.  Suggestions?

I have real a lot of posts that say to click Command+Option while opening iPhoto and this will open the Photo Library Repair window, but... this is not happening.
Be sure you're holding the correct keys and that you're holding them long enough. Depress them before clicking on iPhoto and don't let go until the menu shows up.
If you don't want to lose those photos, make a back up now. Hopefully it's not too late.
