Won't see/capture video

Soooooooo frustrating....
Ok, so I have been capturing old Hi-8 videos for some time now, through the analog input of Intensity's BlackMagic card. I have a Sony Hi-8 camcorder set up with the oh-so-special Sony audio/video output cable going to 1 channel of audio in and the Y-8 analog video in of BlackMagic.
In System prefs, I have NTSC/PAL Y-In Analog audio selected for my input.
In Final Cut Pro Academic 6.0.6, I have tried every possible input in Audio/Video settings, including the one that previously worked, Blackmagic NTSC Apple ProRes (HQ). I've refreshed A/V devices, clicked External Video All Frames, restarted FCP, rebooted the computer....
But today, nothing works; I can't get FCP to see the video in the log and capture window, though I do see that the audio is coming through.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

You're in the wrong forum. This is the FCPX forum.
For your FCP6 question you should re-post here.
Good luck.

  • IMovie won't see iPhoto video

I have iMovie '11 and iPhoto. I have imported a quicktime movie (Quicktime is running up-to-date) into iPhoto. When opening iMovie however I cannot see this movie in the iPhoto movies section and therefore cannot use it in iMovie. I have restarted all: iMovie, iPhoto and my Mac and nothing changes. Help!

Good to hear that you now have the video in iMovie. Importing to an Event allows you to organise your videos much more efficiently than using iPhoto (movies for iMovie; photos for iPhoto).
To see how to organize Events, have a look at this iMovie Help topic, and also check out all the topics listed in the left margin under the heading "Manage Events" (a video tutorial is also included):

  • Why won't iMovie capture video?

Help! iMovie HD 6 controls the camera (fast forward, playback, etc.), but no image will appear on the screen and it won't import. This has happened before and I was able to get it working by messing around with the audio midi setup utility. Not sure why it helped, but someone told me to try it. Now I can't get it to import no matter what I do. The blue screen says "Camera Connected", but when I hit the import button nothing happens. Any suggestions?

I had the same issues recently with my Canon HV20. Here's what I found:
    1. Importing worked in iMovie 08, but not iMovie 6 HD.
    2. Removing all other firewire devices (except the camera) from the computer allowed proper import. This includes external hard drives.
If #2 fits your description, check out my thread here for how I fixed it: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1115534&tstart=0
    Hope this helps!

  • 466 SE 10.3.9 won't see firewire DV camera

Ok, here's my problem,my lime 466 SE won't see the video from my Sony camcorder in 10.3.9.
The camcorder works, my iMac (also 10.3.9) sees it just fine.
If I boot to OS9, my iBook sees it fine in iMovie.
In 10.3.9 my iBook shows the camera in system profiler as the correct Sony DCR-TVR480 camcorder.
No video capture program in 10.3.9 will see it.
Any thoughts? Some iBook hatred in Panther? Some setting I've missed?
When I installed Panther I did not install iMovie at that time (since it does not work on a clamshell), did it not install drivers or something? I have since installed iMovie 3, and it hasn't changed anything.

    hauntnh,
I assume you're referring to the fifth video, "Add a title to your video." Did you drag the title to the V2 track, as explained at 2:33 in the video? Also, if your main video in the V1 track is not sitting below your title clip in V2, you won't see the video behind the title because there won't be anything behind your title.

  • CS6 in Windows 8 won't capture video

Capture in CS6 won’t record VHS after loading Windows 8. Computer used to work, only change was upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8. The anomaly is that using the same settings, the capture works using CS5.5. The capture was a VHS tape through a Canopus converter (ADVC 300). Done many times before, the only change was Windows 8 instead of Windows 7. Weird that it works under same Windows 8 and conditions for CS5.5 but not for CS6. This indicates something different about CS6.
CS6 gives the message that the recorder in CS6 is not capturing any frames.
    Anyone having similar problems?

For John's information, I tried a Legacy Driver. Made no difference. When trying to record in CS6, I could see the video, but when trying to record, message received that no frames recorded. Nothing would happen. Left everything the same, same hookup, closed CS6, opened CS5.5 and recording happened. My guess is that Windows 8 may have changed a file in CS6 that prevents recording. I haven't tried recording to tape yet.

    Hi @anthony7722 ,
Thank you for your query, I will do my best to help!
I grasp that you uninstalled the Intel graphic driver and the catalyst control.  You reinstalled the Intel driver and now you can view and hear videos on the Internet but you are unable to set the resolution as high as previously.
When I checked the specifications for your notebook I see that you have switchable graphics.
Here are two links that I believe will help.
Overview of Switchable Graphics or Dual GPUs
Switchable Graphics on Notebooks Configured with Intel and ATI GPUs
Here is a link to HP Pavilion dv7-6150eb Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers
    Please try this process.
    1. Download the chipset driver, and both graphic drivers and save them  but do not install them yet
2, Delete the chipset driver and install the updated one.
    3. restart your notebook
4.Delete the Intel driver and install the updated one
    5. restart your notebook
    6. Delete the AMD driver and install the updated driver.
You should now have a Catalyst Control Center.
This should now allow you to use the higher graphic card which should support the higher resolution.
    I hope this helped.

Leopard.  Did a full restore from Time Machine.  Now I can't access my other internal and external drives.  I get the following error: The folder “Capture Video” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.  I have repaired permissions pn the main harddrive.  When I try too click on a disk I get the previously stated error.  I can't even open up information to see what permission/access there is.  It simply will not let me see the content.  It shows the content of my main hard drive when I have clicked the other harddrive's name.

Photo Stream does not do videos. For videos, you must import to your computer. You can use iPhoto to import them.

  • How to see the captured video clips in finder?

The project file is like a folder, where the capture video clips are inside, but how to open the folder to use captured clips in Final Cut Express?

    Thanks!
I found another way too, to do it: ctrl + click the project icon and choose from the menu "Show package content" which opens the folder that looks similar to earlier iMovie folders with Media and cache folders.

you are mixing two entirely different things.
on one side, you have your device. Its OS needs to be at least 4.5.

I think you still have 4.2.2.
on the other side, you have your PC with the Desktop Manager. It can be 4.3 4.5 4.6 or even 4.7, it won't change anything on what your device can do (video or html email or docs to go)

  • Capturing Video from a Camera that only has a USB port

I have read a number of posts from people who have been frustrated because they can not 'capture' video from a video camera that only has a USB port on it.  Unfortunately, Premier wants to see a Firewire connection; otherwise, it won't connect to a camera.   However, it is still very easy to import your video clips from such a camera into Premier Pro:
    1. Turn on your video camera and connect it to your computer via the USB connections.
    2. In Premier, go to the Media Browser.
    3. In the Media Browser, you will see all the drives on your computer. Amongst those drives will be a drive that was created for your camera. (It will be identified as X: (Removable).  Double click on that drive and you will see all your recorded video clips in the column just to the right.
    4. Highlight any/all clips that you want to import. Then, simply drag those clips/files up into your Project Organizer (normally, in the upper left corner of the page)
    That's it.
You'll probably find this method of importing your clips/files off of your camera easier than if you did have a Firewire and utilized the 'Capture' function.

And a bigger problem will be that that camera (with its card or HDD) will have to be connected, whenever one wishes to edit, and it cannot be overwritten to).
As has been mentioned, the Project file does NOT contain any Assets, with the exception of Titles created in PrPro's Titler. This ARTICLE will give a bit more background on what is in the Project file, plus a bit more.
The same sort of problem can arise if one Imports a VOB from a DVD-Video disc, without Copying the VOB's over to the HDD. First, that DVD must be inserted for each editing session, and things will be horribly slow.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Trouble capturing video from VHS via Analogue to DV converter

I use Final Cut Express 1.0.1 and I've always been able to capture video from VHS via a Director's Cut analogue to DV converter box. Today it keeps freezing on me. I've tried force quit, logged off and back on again and even re-started the computer. I've got plenty of space on my two hard drives (125GB free on main drive and 85.42GB on my scratch disk).
I'm sure I've set the rest up correctly (composite cable from VHS to DV convertor box set to output and connected to input slots on box, and DV box set to capture). The box is correctly connected to the Mac.
I've also logged on using another user's account to see if the same problem occurs, and it does. I believe this means that dumping the my preference file won't help, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Any ideas how to stop this freezing on me would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Karen

Last bit of help from Martin may have some mileage in it as far as excluding hidden problems with the drive you are capturing too.
Have been reading into the requirements for the hard disc and it does make it clear having a separate one like you have is almost a requirement because of the work it does. Would it be worth trying a small capture to your system disc. If it helps that is how I am working at the moment so it doesn't appear to be instant fireworks if you do use this one but give it some thought first...
On the firewire port side of things I have seen some unexplained connection issues on this front which were cured by shutting things down, unplugging and then beginning again. Take it System Profile didn't yield anything?
Now I got back in front of my Mac it appears Quicktime Pro will allow capture from an attached device but appreciate you may not have the Pro bit, iMovie should be as good a test.

  • IPhoto won't import .mov video from iPhone

I just got my wife a new Mac mini.  It is running the latest versions of Mountain Lion and iPhoto.
She's recorded some short videos of the kids with her iPhone (4s), and wants to organize these in iPhoto alongside pictures of the kids (she's done this before).
However, since getting her new computer, when she tried to import the videos, she got an error message that said the files were an unrecognized format.
We were able to retrieve the videos and copy them to her hard drive using Image Capture; however, she would still like to import them to iPhoto.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

There are many, many posts of this nature in these forums.  See, for example:
    iphoto won’t import mov video
For many, rebuilding the XPC helper cache solves the problem off the bat. In terminal try this, and reboot:
    sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache
The above posted by Andy Ball on a thread related to a similar problem with Aperture:
Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion
    Other things to try:
    1. create a fresh iPhoto library and try that.  (hold down opt while launching iPhoto)
    2. create a new OS X user (in system preferences) and try there.
In my case – and many cases – neither of those things work either, which means the problem is system wide.  Again suggesting that the xpc helper solution might work. But for me it did not either.
There are other suggestions that there are conflicts with Perian (on Yosemite) and flip4mac.  In my case uninstalling both of those didn't solve it either.
So maybe one of those solutions will work for you, results apparently vary.  But this is a huge unresolved issue many others are having as well.  I have a case with a senior apple advisor open, still unresolved. His suggestion of course, at this point, is an archive and re-install. I'm not ready to go there yet.
BTW, another thing he had me try was to import the file with Image Capture (which works).  Then open it in QuickTime Player X.  Then try exporting to 480p.  Does QuickTime crash?  It does for me.
    My summary:
    1. Files successfully import with Image Player.
    2. Files play with QuickTime Player X.
    3. QuickTime Player X crashes when exporting to 480p.
    4. Files import with iMove.
    5. Files fail to import with iPhoto (unrecognized format as with OP)
    6. iPhoto import failure/errors are system wide and not specific to a library or a user.
    7. rebuilding xpchelper cache and rebooting in my case does not resolve issue.
    8. same videos import fine in iPhoto on a totally different system (laptop running same versions of OS X 10.10 and iPhoto 9.5.1)
