Because your email account does not have an authenticated SMTP server. Is the email account provided by your internet service provider at home, and your cousin does not have the same ISP as yours?
Most, if not all internet service providers block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time unless the SMTP server is authenticated. This restriction is in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain. This is really a joke since the overwhelming majority of spam if not all emanates from PC boxes throughout the world running that swiss cheese for security garbage OS that is Windows being compromised/taken over remotely by spammers.

My iPad sends and receives emails when I'm using my home wifi - but will only receive and not send emails when I am away and using other wifi. Sent messages sit in the outbox until I get home - then they go. Any thoughts?

Try changing the SMTP port from 25 to 587. This should work when connected to both BT network and 3 network.

Sending email away from home

I use a iBook G4 that I have set up wireless Airport in my home. I am able to send and receive emails at home. I have DSL provided by Cavalier and use Safari email program.
I am able to pick up WiFi signals in my travels as a sales rep. and can receive emails. The problem is I can't send emails. I checked with my Internet provider and they tell me to go their web site to send emails. That works for regular emails, but I work with a Filemaker software to generate sales orders that I email to vendors. I am not able to send these emails when I pick up a WiFi signal away from home.
Any suggestions.

Safari isn't an e-mail program, it's a Web browser. When you use Cavalier's Webmail, you do so with a browser (such as Safari).
The Filemaker generated e-mail is probably using an e-mail client, such as Mail, to send the message. When you're sending from a 'foreign', not-Cavalier network (which is what happens when you hitch on someone else's WiFi signal, unless they happen to be a Cavalier customer), The Cavalier SMTP server won't send the e-mail. Many ISPs have adopted this tactic as a way of slowing down the spam avalanche. In some cases, they have established mechanisms to require authentication and use ports other than the popular port 25. It sounds like Cavalier has decided to lock things down a little tighter and requires you to use their Webmail when you're out of network.
One thing you can do is to let Filemaker generate the e-mail, then copy and paste it into Cavalier's Webmail to send it.

I want to make sure I'm understanding you clearly:
When trying to send emails over your iPhone's 3G connection emails will not send, correct?

Sometimes the cellular antennas in the iPhone just need a good reset.

Have you checked ALL the settings including the port assignments? Easiest way to get those back to is to delete the email account from the iPad then redo the email account. Usually the ISP providing the email account will have instructions on their web site.

Calendar won't send email reminders since updating to Mavericks?

Since upgrading to OS Mavericks Calendar won't send email reminders.
I have been able to set them. But they don't actually send.
I have visited multiple sites and discussions and attempted the suggestions posted there but nothing seems to help. I have even contact Apple feedback, and still haven't heard back from anyone.
Just to clarify, i have attempted the following fixes:
- Adjusted email settings to ensure iCloud ermail account is properly set up
- Adjusted reminder settings in calendar to ensure the reminders should send
- ensured that "My Card" is properly set up in Contacts
I can't seem to find anything else to help? Anyone have any ideas?

I am haivng the same issue too.
According to some other posts, I deleted and readded the "Me" record in the address book. When creating a new calender entry I set it to send email. When the notification pops up it's just a normal alert and no email.
Any ideas?

I am all of a sudden not able to send emails out from my outlook account on my iPhone. Any suggestions?

I am not able to send emails out from my outlook account on my iPhone 4s. This feature has been working fine for 2 years and all of a sudden decided not to work. I was able to receive emails but not send out. I tried deleting the outlook account and recreating it but now I can't even recreate it. It tells me it cannot verify my account information. The interesting thing is that the account works fine on my PC, so I know my login info is correct. Any help would be appreciated.

IPhone 5 no internet connection away from WIFI

I have no Internet connection away from WiFi while using 3G on my iPhone 5. This didn't use to be a problem. I now get the message <your phone is not connected to the Internet.>
I have data roaming/ cellular data enabled. Can anyone offer help as I may have changed a setting somewhere without knowing?

Have you recently changed your SIM card to that of another provider? If so, you may need to set your APN settings - Settings/Mobile/Mobile Data Network (on UK phones). If not, then seek advice from your service provider because it's very likely to be connected with your APN settings.
The other option is to search the Internet for the APN settings for your service provider. The information should be readily available.

HT1529 sending emails directly from Finder in Mountain Lion

With Mountain Lion I cannot send emails directly from Finder! In older versions when I right-click on a file there is an option in the dialog box which appers: "send by email" or something like this, I can't remember exactly...but when I used to click on it the email window appears. How can I activate this option? in this new version it is only SHARE options which is not helpful.

I am having similar issues with my user account. It also is the same in Yosemite.
Disc images, external hard drives etc dragged to trash (get eject icon) are simply ignored.
Pressing Eject button in side bar of Finder are ignored.
It seems to be a permission/account issue as:
- using computer under a different account doesnt have this problem
- transferring account over to another mac continues the problem on the new computer.
Log file seems not to have any errors.

Somehow I got it to work, a whole lot easier than i thought, kind of scary how easy... but Im not exactly sure what of several things is how I got it. Scariest thing; watching my iBook I wouldn't know that I was accessing it from the MB. It's only me doing it, but still seems so easy.
If I have a WPA2 password protected wireless network do I have to worry that others can access it so easily? (not that I have anything interesting, it's just the general privacy paranoia)
