Won't show certain bands in artist category

I have this problem where some of my music won't show up under the artist category and i am not sure why. It can be listed that way in iTunes but not on my iPod. Any thoughts?

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't show under artist on my iPod.
Once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.
Providing the spelling for the artists is exactly the same of course.

  • Some artists won't show up...

Some artists on my iPod won't show up in the artists menu, but if I go the albums, their album is there so the only way I could access that artist is if I went to Albums....how do I fix this?

  • Artist won't show up, PLEASE HELP

I just got my 30 gig video ipod today and loaded all my music on it, and one of my bands Keane, wont show up in my artists list. It goes straight from Kansas to The Killers. But if I go to the All Songs list then Keans' songs are in there. Any help would be most appreciated.

OK, i think I figured it out, Keane wasnt the only band who wasnt in the Artists list, some others were too. and it was because they were put in the Compilations folder on my computer. So i turned OFF compilations on my Ipod, and unchecked the selection in preferences to "group compilations while browsing" and deleted the compilations folder. But when i play the Keane songs it automatically puts them in a new Compilations folder. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP THIS IS REALLY ANNOYING. thank you very much.

  • Artists won't show up?

When I go to the artist menu on my iPod classic 80gb, some of the artists don't show up. Their songs are still there though because I can get to them from the album and song menus. Why?

  • Albums not showing up in "Artists" category

I have a second generation iPod, a few moths old. I have been having no trouble synching albums to the iPod, until now.
In iTunes, both albums show up fine in both the "Artists" category, and the "Albums" category. But on my iPod, these two albums only show up in the "Albums" category, not the "Artists" category.
All the relevant information is on the albums (ie; Album Artist, Album Name, etc).
I recently did the update to v 4.2.1, and lost all the music. I thought that when I re-synched, that perhaps these two albums would appear in all the relevant categories on the iPod. But they didn't.
    Advice, Please?

Seems the problem was with how the artist was named; What iTunes and the iPod wanted was for the artist's name to listed in "Properties" as "Contributing Artist". I did this, and re-synched, and now the albums show up in all categories.
    Yay!

  • Certain artists arent showing up in my artists section

all the artists on my itunes that are from compilation albums don't show up in the artists section on my ipod.
Is there anyway I can change this?

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is incorrectly marked as part of a compilation (and you have Compilations enabled on the iPod) or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. If you are using iTunes 8, in the the multiple items info box the compilations setting is in the "Options" tab. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
Also if the tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. • IPod is recognized by iTunes but songs won't show up on device

I bought a brand new 32gb ipod touch 5th generation last weekend. I put about 8gb of music onto it. the music displayed under the "on my device" section of my ipod in itunes however when i disconnected my ipod the only songs on it were ones that were purchased through itunes. I contacted apple support twice and both times was told to restore my device and put everything back on again. the second time the process worked by syncing only certain artists/albums but not with single songs.
when i finally got it to sync (after a total of 8 hours wasted and 35gb of music added and removed after 2 full resets) some of the album art doesnt show, the song titles/artists don’t show up, it plays the wrong songs. all my music is tagged correctly and i cant figure out why this won't work. all the songs i added show up as "unknown title/unknown artist" yet when i click them they all play songs with titles and artists
i dont know why i cant just drag and drop songs like every other ipod i’ve ever had (a total of 5 over the years). if anyone can help me with this i'd really appreciate it. I've wasted so much time on this and apple chat support is broken right now

  • How do i display all artists in artists category?

i just got my ipod video, and i noticed that when i transfer music from itunes, only the artists for which i copied full albums show up in the "artists" section, while other artists for which i only have one song (but other album info, including album name) do not show up unless i enter "all" in the artists category. in that case, only the album names appear.

the only thing i can think of causing this problem, is if "compilations" is on. otherwise, i've never heard of this problem. you can turn this off in itunes when you open ipod preferences.

  • How to make one album show up for multiple artists?

I'd like some albums to show up under multiple artists in iTunes in Windows.  Say for example "The Basement Tapes" by Bob Dylan and The Band.  It would be nice to see this album under both these artists.  Or to have "Two Men With the Blues" show up under both Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis.  Can I do that with iTues?  If so I haven't figured out how.  It would be nice if using a delimiter such as as comma, slash of semi-colon would signify to iTunes that it should lists those songs under all artists but it doesn't.  At least commas didn't work.  Any help would be appreciated.

iTunes doesn't have the ability to do what you want, i.e. to define multiple separated values in a field and then have the item show up when looking at a selection based on each of those values. "Bob Dylan", "The Band" and "Bob Dylan & The Band" are three distinct values that can't be linked together. Sort values can change where in a list things are displayed but shouldn't be used to attempt to merge different values as results are undefined and unpredictable.

  • IPhoto suddenly won't show windows anymore, help, anyone?

Since I've been using Lion I expierence all kinds of problems. I regret updating ever since.
For example, my internet connection keep turning of every couple of minutes (while all other divices at home stay connected). My solution is to turn my wifi off, wait a while and than turn it on again. It's really poor when one uses the best iMac there is. But I guess that's Lion. I got used to it.
    But my question:
iPhoto suddenly stopped working (at first it did work!). It does start, but it won't show any windows.
I've deleted the cache, restarted my iMac, no result.
It all began when I plugged in my iPhone.
Now I'm no longer able to backup my photo's anymore.
    Can anyone help?
I've also tried cicking the icon while pressing alt and cmd, for more options, but it doesn't work...
Hopefully one of you know the solution!
    Thx!
    A.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Ipod won't sync certain songs after update to 5.1.1

I updated my ipod touch to version 5.1.1.  This included the addition of icloud to my system.  Since I have updated it, my ipod won't add certain songs from my itunes.  It's really weird how it just randomly selected songs to download.  I have songs in itunes that I purchased, as well as songs I imported from CD's.  Every song shows up on my ipod song list, however most are "gray" and won't allow me to select them to play.  (like they are not downloaded or something).  I have retored my ipod three times to see if that will allow all the songs to play on my ipod and it won't work.  Everytime I try to sync my ipod the fist song that tries to sync says "The file wasn't synced to the ipod because it cannot be read or written"......I have tried removing multiple songs and still get this message for every song. I did figure out that you can open the itunes store through the ipod and select "purchased".  You can then view songs that "aren't on the ipod" and manually download each individual song to the ipod, however, not only is this a pain in the *** and going to take forever since I have 1000+ songs and tv shows, but this still won't get all my own music added from CD's to my ipod. HELP! Any tips or solutions!! ( Also, I am a Mac user if that makes a difference)

After over TWO HOURS on the phone with apple support I still had no solution.  There were several songs that would freeze up my itunes, then I got the message "blah blah song" couldn't be transfered to the ipod because the file was unable to be read or written.  The tech and I came up with the solution to just delete every song that came up on. In the end, I had to individually add EVERY SINGLE SONG to my ipod one at a time.  If an error popped up I just deleted that song and made a note of it.  I had no issues with the songs I imported from CD's, only the songs purchased off itunes.  The tech never could figure out why.  We rebooted, wiped clean, reset, anything...you name it we tried.  We even moved everything to another computer to see if it was a computer issue, then we wiped my husband's ipod touch to see if it was a hardware issue on my ipod. NOTHING. This finally worked even though it took all day.  Everything seems okay now, we will see the next time I add songs.  I did lose ALL my photos and videos taken with the ipod. :/ That really ***** because I have a 1 year old who's entire first year was on that stupid thing.  What a waste of a day.

  • Soundtracks not showing up in iPod artist

It seems I've tried EVEYTHING under the sun for this. I have multiple soundtracks and none of the songs show up under the Artist section of my ipod touch. I can see this in the Album section. I've edited Artist, Album Artist, checked and uncheck Compilation and all tracks individually and together.
It edits it on the itunes screen on my laptop, the ipod does it's little syncing loading symbol but nothing changes on the ipod. I even edited the album name which changed on the computer screen but on the ipod it still says the old album name. Example: Moulin Rouge soundtrack would be titled as "Moulin Rouge (2001) ranamed it to just Moulin Rouge. On the computer it says Moulin Rouge. One the ipod it sayd Moulin Rouge (2001).
So not only is nothing showing up in the artist section (even if I make every song artist Moulin Rouge Cast) the album name isn't even changing. I'm super organized with my media and this is frustrating me to no end.

  • How to reduce number of artists in artist category who do not have a full album?

The category I use most on my ipod touch is the "Artist" category,
because I generally like to listen to full albums and to a single artist for a fair amount of time.
    Something I find really annoying is when I put compilation albums  on my ipod , which feature multiple artists with 1 or 2 songs each per album ;
Suddenly my "artist" category is FILLED with all these artists who only have one or 2 songs each.
    I find that really annoying.
Is there some way to narrow down artists that on my ipod that have, for example, less than 5 songs, and put them all in one big compilation folder?
Or to make them just not display in the artist category?
It just confuses me when I look at my ipod to see all these artists who have only one or two songs.
That's not what I want to listen to.
The only things I want to see listed in the artist category are artists who have at least ONE FULL ALBUM on my ipod.
I hope my question makes sense,
as well as the reason for my asking it.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

    Hi Jon.
Sorry if you kind of answered this already.
I'm going through and manually renaming the "album artist" column for tracks which do not have this information.
Most of these tracks have the "artist" column filled.
[This is actually becoming a bit laborious, plus there is actually a fair bit of waiting time for itunes to fill in the track metadata on all the tracks after I have selected multiple tracks and typed it in, and it won't allow me to continue tagging while it does this.]
    SO......
I was wondering if there was a way to get the album artist column to be automatically filled by mirroring what is in the artist column?
I found this excellent looking tool,
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=tagsmirrorartalbfnom
but I don't know how to use it.
It would be excellent if there is some way to do this without a 3rd party solution, but if I knew how to use this tool, it looks very good too.

  • Some artwork on my iPad Mini won't show up?

On my iPad Mini I have music and when I'm viewing the artists or the albums tab, in the cover art view, some of my artwork won't show, just a white background with a music sign in the middle?
I know on my computer they have the artwork, on my iPhone 4S the artwork is there, and even weirder on the same iPad with the same songs, if I click on an artist or an album, the view where the album or albums flip up, the artwork that wasn't there on the previous screen is now there?!
Just a pain to look at when I've gone to the hassle of putting artwork on everything!
Any help would be appreciated as to how to get the artwork to show all the time,
    Thanks!
    Ryan

This problem can often be solved by connecting to iTunes on your computer and using it to remove all the music from your iPad and then resyncing all the music back to the iPad.
