Won't sleep after install of wireless router

I bought a D-link WBR-2310 wireless router and installed it between the internet modem and my iMac. Everything is working good after configuring the router but my iMac won't sleep now. Its like the iMac is picking up a constant signal from the D-link via the ethernet port. Any thoughts?
Thanks

First check the sleep settings in Energy Saver preferences. If everything looks correct and..........
If you are using a cable modem turn your computer & the cable modem off. After about 30 seconds - 1 minute, turn the modem back on first, then turn your computer on.

  • Imac 24 won't sleep after installing Airport Extreme

    Hi there.
This topic may have been covered already, but does anyone know why I can't seem to get either my Imac 24 display or the internal HD to automatically sleep after installing the Airport Extreme .11n?
Both the display and internal HD would sleep just fine when directly connected to modem, but now with Airport Extreme, only the screen saver appears and I can't get either the display or drive to sleep.
    Thanks

Hmm, check your settings for sleeping.

  • Mac won't sleep after adding Kensington Wireless Mouse

I've added a Kensington PilotMouse Laser Wireless to my system and now it won't sleep, without first switching off the mouse. Kensington has no info on this, is there a workaround?
    PowerMac G4 (Dual 867) Mac OS X (10.4.4)

The "sleep" that you describe is not sleep. Your mac has crashed but since it thinks it is sleeping there is nothing in the crash logs.
Sleep on modern computers is not just a hardware shutdown. Because X and XP are server based kernels they are designed to run 24/7 and do what they can to keep it that way. Deep sleep requires an orderly shut down of processes and loading their status into memory so that when it wakes, all is as it was.
There are many things that can prevent sleep. Usb devices are designed to wake a mac on a change of state (doing something). When my mac did what yours did the only fix for it was an erase and install. I tried all the other solutions but the only one that worked was an erase and install.
If you care to try some of the "fixes" then here are some.
    Reset the pmu.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=95037
    • Trash all caches (system and user)
    • Mac OS X power management is sensitive to malfunctions in USB devices.
Remove USB peripherals, one at a time
    • Mac will not sleep if Applications/processes continuously writing to the Console logs.
Launch Console in Applications/Utilities and check both the console.log and system.log logs for blocks of recurring messages written therein that repeat at high frequency.
Note: the console.log file should open by default when you launch Console.
    • Quit System Preferences.... Navigate to ....
    /Library/Preferences and delete.....com.apple.AutoWake.plist
Enter your Admin password, when prompted.
•If this does not solve the problem, your Energy Saver preferences may be corrupt.
Navigate to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration (folder) and delete.
    com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    com.apple.AutoWake.plist
Enter your Admin password, when prompted.
    • and finally....
    Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences/ and delete......

  • Mac Mini Won't Sleep after installing 10.4.6

My Mac Mini wakes itself up after just 1 minute of putting it to sleep mode. I've tried restarting my mini, and tried quitting all apps and disabling airport and bluetooth- but it still won't sleep! Anyone else experiencing this problem, I didn't have this problem with 10.4.5 and I've installed no other software since then...

This is for a Mac that won't sleep.
First, read things in Apple doc.#25801 on sleep settings.
USB devices and hubs often cause Macs to not sleep or wake quickly from sleep (notably HP printers and scanners, HP all in ones, and Cannon scanners). Disconnect all USB except for keyboard and mouse and try. If it sleeps, add one back at a time testing after each one to find the culprit.
If you've set your Mac to recieve faxes, it may not be able to sleep. It might also have a damaged preferences file.
If you use your Mac for faxing, open System Preferences. click Print & Fax, click the Faxing tab, and uncheck the Recieve Faxes On This Computer box.
If that does'nt work or you've never faxed on your Mac, go to Finder/Hard Drive /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist and com..apple.AutoWake.plist files (if your Mac asks, type your admin. password).
If the latter file isn't present in the folder, go to user name(probably your name)/Library/Preferences, delete the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file, and reboot your Mac.
    Hope this helps!
    P.S. One member here reported this (Michael Gleason);
"I have had this problem with my IMac G5. It is surprisingly irritating. LaCie's Silverkeeper backup software was the cause. By default it gave itself permission to wake up the computer to check if a backup was needed. Do you have this or a similar program installed which has scheduled activities including wake-up permissions as an option?"
Dave Hamilton provided this link, xlr8yourmac.com, to a member, which addresses failure of deep sleep with some users that updated and added new FireWire and USB cards.
tomhorvat adds this; After few days of messing around I found out that I had desktop background (wallpaper) set to change every 1 minute.
After unchecking "Change picture..." in system preferences (under Desktop/Screen saver), my powerbook went to sleep all by itself.
    Cheers!

  • Macbook Pro won't sleep after installing Lion

    Hi,
I have just installed Mac OSX Lion last night. Everything worked out fine until I realized that everytime I close the Lid or Press Sleep from the Apple menu, it will not actually Sleep. After I open up the lid, I actually have to press the brightness of the light for the light to comes up. Or else its just going to be blank/black. During I close the lid, I could actually see that the light isn't actually breathing and I wonder how do I fix this? I have tried resetting the PRAM though.

I have the same issue with my MacBook.  I have it in a docking station hooked to an external monitor and after upgrading to Lion it will not go to sleep.  I can click the sleep button from the Apple menue, from the start menue where the password is entered, or even set up sleep hot corners and nothing works.  The only thing that worked for me was to take my computer out of the dock then restart.  Once I restarted I was able to put the computer to sleep, but only as long as it was no longer connected to the dock.  As soon as Lion recognizes there is an external monitor connected to my MacBook it prevents the sleep function.  I understand why they did this, because some people had issues with their computers going to sleep while plugged into an external monitor, but I'm not sure their solution is any better because they have now created several unnecessary steps for many people who use external monitors.  I hope Apple addresses this issue and comes up with a patch of some sort to give users the option to have it set up one way or another.  I'm also pretty ****** that they got rid of Front Row.

  • G5 1.8 SP 900mhz FSB won't sleep after installing 10.4.6

I have one of the original PowerMac G5 1.8 SP w/900 mhz FSB (which Apple promptly discontinued). I recently updated my OS from 10.3.4 to 10.4.6 from a retail DVD. Since updating, my computer will not go into sleep mode from the apple icon. When selecting sleep, my hard drive cycles down and the monitor goes to sleep, but the fans stay on and the power light does not wink as it did when it used to sleep properly. I do not have bluetooth, I do not have energy saver settings turned on, and I am not set up to receive faxes. The only devices attached are HK Soundsticks, ipod, mouse/keyboard and Canon ip4000. My software update window offers Firmware Update 5.1.5f2 (unchecked), which clearly states on the apple document that it is for 1.6ghz uniprocessor machines (mine is a 1.8ghz).
Can anybody help me resolve this?

Have you tried resetting the SMU? (System Management Unit)
"The SMU (System Management Unit) is a microcontroller chip on the logic board that controls all power functions for your computer. If your computer is experiencing any issues regarding these functions, resetting the SMU may resolve the issue. The functions controlled by the SMU include:
It tells the computer when to turn on, turn off, sleep, wake, idle, and so on.
It handles system resets from various commands.
    It controls the fan."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300341
To reset the SMU, shut down the G5. Then pull the powercord out and leave it out for about 30 seconds or so. Then plug the cord back in and start up.

  • Mac Pro 8 Core will not wake up from sleep after install of 10.6

I am so bummed that my computer will not sleep after installing the 10.6 OS. Every time I put the machine to sleep, that works, but when I tap a key to wake the machine, it restarts. I tried resetting the SMC by unplugging everything and restarting but that did not work. I have 8GB of RAM and the machine is set up for photography (Huey color calibrator (using USB), Wacom Intuos 4 Graphics Tablet (using USB)... Could it be all of these device drivers? Help!

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. The purpose of this test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • External keypad won't work after installing OS 7.

External keypad won't work after installing OS 7. I have a "Zagg" keyboard that won't pair now to OS 7,...Why?

They do work. I have one and mine is working. Have you tried to reset your iPad? HOlding down teh sleep and home keys until it reboots then try pairing again.
A slightly more drastic thing is to go into the settings and reset all settings. THe downside, you will need to retweak your device but it can help fix keyboard glitches.

The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode.

Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.

printer won't work after installing mountain lion?

Assuming you've first checked Software Update to see if there are any updated drivers and it's still not working, you could try resetting the printing system.
System Preferences>Print & Scan, Control+Click or Right Click on a printer on the left and select 'reset printing system'. All printers will be deleted and need to be added again.

  • Mac Mini won't start after installing OS X 10.6.3

My Mac Mini won't start after installing Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3. When I turn it on, the Apple logo appears and the initialization line starts to fill, but it suddenly stops. It does that again and stops at the same point, but this time it shuts down. What should I do?

If you are coming from 10.5.8, hopefully you backed up your important data first. Your mini will need at minimum, 1 GB of RAM to install Snow Leopard and at least 5 GB of storage remaining on your boot drive.
I treat 10.6.3 as a fresh, full install over a 10.5.8 system. That means I choose Disk Utility from the Installer's menu and repartition the boot drive as a single partition, Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) format, and use the GUID partition scheme from the options button. At this point, while still in Disk Utility, I would verify the drive under First Aid.
Then I turn the installer loose, and reboot into a working 10.6.3 system, ready for the software updates that take the machine to 10.6.8.
So, following the above guidelines, reinstall 10.6.3.
