Won't Start or Play movies

I have finally gotten Quicktime 7 upgrade to actually install but now it won't launch movies. When I come to the site I get 2 or 3 'plug-in error' messages. I can view movie trailers here, and the demo's, but can't play the movies on my system now. I have IE6 SP2, Windows XP. I had to physically edit registry because previous versions would not back out, QT7 kept doing 'rollback' and fail to install. Also now my movie files from my Kodak Easyshare camera will not play. Can anyone help? I have checked Easyshare, McAffee, IE6, WinXP, everything is current.

Hi, Since you have Flash Player Installed correctly and the Shockwave Flash Object also, then the problems that you are having are not Flash Player related.
If the Webroot Spy Sweeper has any Realtime protection running, whether shields or by any other name, and you have McAfee running in Realtime, there certainly could be a conflict. Oh, I just took some time and went to the McAfee site.

I don't know how you can solve this unless you shut down either McAfee and all of their components or Webroot and all of theirs. I know you have tried all that I suggested and more. The add ons in the browser you can control, but the Installed McAfee and Webroot you can't since they Install into the system files and the Windows Registry. (Not sure with Webroot on that tho) You could probably do a Search to find out. I just have one anti-virus/anti-spyware Installed and then have several on demand on the Desktop.

Quicktime won't start or play .mov files

I have an interesting problem - Quicktime 7.4.1.14 shows that it's installed correctly via the Apple Quicktime troubleshooter, and it will play Quicktime movies inside my browser (Firefox), but when I click on the quicktime shortcut on the desktop or click on a .mov file on my PC, the program won't open - the system reacts and there's briefly an hourglass, but then nothing happens. There's nothing in the Windows XP event logs that indicates a problem.
Is there some way for me to get a log of what Quicktime is trying to do so I can at least try to fix the problem? I have removed my Temp directory and uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime and iTunes several times, but that did not help. I do have Windows Media Player 11 and Nero 8 Ultimate installed, in case that provides any additional helpful information.

I have found the answer, and I hope it might be helpful to others. The problem was with a skinning program called WindowBlinds - if I exclude Quicktimeplayer.exe from being skinned, the program works just fine. Although the problem was not a security rights or "Deny" problem, using Runas to access another administrative login to run Quicktime did work around the problem; in fact, even if did a Runas using the same login where Quicktime wasn't working, that solved the problem - the Runas interface must somehow avoid the skinning problem or whatever specific environment or problem WindowBlinds is causing.
WindowBlinds is also causing some other programs, notably a few setup.exe files, to not execute in the same way - they try to start, and then abort with no error message - they just quit. When I unloaded WindowBlinds, they also started working again. A very strange and unintuitive problem and solution.

Apple TV won't load or play movies from my MBP library (through both airplay and homesharing), but will from my mac mini. Help!

I have been using my apple TV seamlessly with all my apple products (Mac Mini, iphone, MBP, ipad). Everything worked perfectly until recently (I noticed the issue about 3 weeks ago), when the apple TV won't load and play any movies from my iTunes library located on my MBP. The Library loads, and I can see everything, but as soon as I press play, the spinning load icon appears and doesn't stop. Same when I play movie from itunes directly and send it via airplay. Desktop mirroring no problem.
I have checked, and films are being played perfectly from my other devices, as does airplay and mirroring

For Apple TV to access your library while the host computer is asleep, "Wake for network access" must be turned on.
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and select (enable) the "Wake for network access" option.
In addition, the network that the host computer and the Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) is connected to must support Wake on Demand feature. This works by partnering with a service running on your AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule called Bonjour Sleep Proxy.

My computer is authorized but won't let me play movies from external drive

Before the most recent update, I was backing up my movies and music to an external drive to save room on my hard drive. I would then play those movies in QT from the external drive. I didn't import into iTunes bc I wanted to save room. Now, however, it won't let me play those movies unless I import into iTunes. I get a please authorize field. I authorize and it says that this computer is already authorized but it still won't play the movie.

SO FAR I THINK IT IS "GENIUS" (IT'S A DUNCE!!!!)
TURN OFF GENIUS THE REBOOT iTUNES...
SO FAR THIS HAS WORKED FOR ME!

ITunes 7.6 and Vista 32 bit - Songs in iTunes won't start to play

I have songs loaded into my iTunes Library but when I click them to play, they won't start. I didn't have this problem at first, but now I do.
I loaded about 20 iTunes songs and played them, but now they won't start and I can't load any more songs. Also, the mp3 files on a CD won't start either.
Running MS Vista 32 bit, iTunes 7.6, with an E-MU 0404 external audio card (usb 2.0).

Thanks for the reply. What exactly does that command exactly do? Very strange what is going on. Like I said earlier my computer is authorized yet I am still getting the screen below when I try to open a TV show I've purchased. Itunes is already open so not sure why I am being asked to open it again. When I do click on open Itunes, I get another screen that says waiting for Itunes to authorize.... I wait like 5 minutes and then it says not able to contact Itunes and to make sure I have Itunes 4 or greater.

TS1717 itunes won't respond when playing movies

itunes shuts down when I play movies but when I play my music it works, not when I play movies and I just updated to current version of itues and it was working before I updated it. Any ideals?

Why won't Front Row play movies located in my iPhoto Library?

I currently have a little over 300 short movies from my digital cameras. I keep them in subfolders located at /Users/shared/Shared Movies/digital camera movies/ and Front Row plays them just fine under each user account since each user has an alias to /Users/shared/Shared Movies/ located in their "movies" folder within their home folder.
Recently a buddy convinced me to import my short digicam movies into iPhoto as an easier way to organize the short .mov and .avi files. I have over 14K image files in my library so I liked the idea of browsing my video shorts using iPhoto. I created a smart album in iPhoto for all file names ending with .avi or .mov and that works great to quickly locate the relatively few video files in the sea of digital stills.
BUT... WHY won't Front Row locate or play the movies that are located inside of iPhoto's Library? Did they just forget this functionality? Front Row's Video player displays Video Podcasts located in iTunes why wouldn't there also be an automagic category that appears in Front Row for movies located in your iPhoto Library?!
Front Row chokes if I attempt to play the smart "movies" album I created in iPhoto. It just keeps spinning the little "train tracks" progress thingy and never shows a movie. I finally just hit the menu button on the remote to "back out" of that selection.
The other work around I tried to play these movies located in iPhoto was a smart folder located at /Users/shared/Shared Movies/ that displays filenames that contain .mov and .avi located in my iPhoto library folder. This doesn't work. Front Row's Video player will not display the movies found by a smart folder the same way it does for an alias to a folder or file.
I don't want to keep duplicate copies of these movie files on my HD. I'll have to keep them located outside of iPhoto so I can enjoy browsing and watching them "on demand" using Front Row.
What is the fix? Work around?

Thanks for the suggestion but that isn't an option. Think about how iPhoto stores images and movies you import into the photo library. It will import files originally located in one folder and scatter them by storing all the files in hundreds of folders and subfolders based on date. Originally I had my movies in my home movie folder and even used an alias to the shared movies. That all works fine and it isn't the issue. The issue is when you try to use the only tool Apple provides to organize your digital images, both still and moving pictures. Once you import your movies into the iPhoto Library they become invisible to Front Row's video player.
Once iPhoto imports my 300+ files and scatters them into hundreds of subfolders based on the date -how in the world would you even begin to maintain aliases in a folder that point to these files. That is NOT an option, who would do that?! That is why I decided to try the smart folder since it would dynamically locate all the files with .mov and .avi in the file name located within the iPhoto library. Good idea but Front Row will not play these files listed in the result set of a smart folder. It will follow an alias but not play the contents of a smart folder.
Front Row should handle movie files within the iPhoto library the same way it deals with videos within the iTunes library. Poor design, oversight, bug, whatever -it should be fixed. There should be an automatic category that appears under the Front Row video player for "Movies in iPhoto" and if you have no movies in your library it displays something like it does when you have no video podcasts, or no TV shows, or no music videos in iTunes. Come on, how many users have those items vs. an iPhoto library with movies from their digital cameras? I bet more users have movies from their digital cameras that currently drop through a gaping hole in the design of Front Row if they use iPhoto to manage their digicam movie files.

Won't let me play movies

I have never signed in with a different apple id but itunes will not allow me to play a movie. It gives this notification "You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days" is there a way around this??? I recently changed my icloud password... but I don't see how that would make a difference.

The first problem is that you don't watch videos with iTunes on an iPad. You watch them through the Video app. Is that what you're doing?
Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears?

Why won't iTunes 11 play movies earlier version did??

Sometime in the last 12 months or so an iTunes update broke playback of alot of my m4v/mpeg4 movies.
Earlier versions of iTunes played them fine played. (iTunes 11.3.1.2 does not)
QuickTime Player v7.7.5 plays the movies fine.
VLC v2.1.5 plays the movies fine.
Just iTunes will not play the movie, any longer, on my Windows 7 PC.
This also presents a problem for playing the movies via Apple TV - these movies used to be watchable on my lounge TV... no longer; I suspect iTunes isn't opening the movie to pass it to the appleTV (because I first became aware of this issue when I couldn't have a movie night on appleTV shortly after an iTunes update).
This seems to be a fault in iTunes initial opening of movie files - as I say QuickTime Player happily/easily plays the movies when they are manually opened with it.
Please fix, so the Apple ecosystem I've sold the family on is functional!!!!

Whilst it's possible there's some obscure setting somewhere, I _really_ doubt it.
My Apple history dates back to a, then current, Mac+ and I currently do embedded [Android] fw development... so this is more of a bug report than flailing user.

Audition cs5.5 won't start to play or record

I just installed audition cs5.5. I was able to open an existing mp3 file and edit it, but when i tried to open a new file to make a recording, it wouldn't respond.
This is what happened...
I clicked file - audio - new - audio file, and the editor appears. I tried to drag the "current time indicator" but it wouldn't move. I tried to click "record" and "play" but there was no response.Did I do something wrong?

Soundbooth CS5 do not problem about recording when I install it . In Control Panel Window7 , playback tab Speakers is default device and recording tab is stereo mix is default . When I open Soundbooth CS5 , it will detect this configuration automatically . I can record sound on web by press record on soundbooth.
Soundbooth is the best program as same as Audition CS3 . I used the method to setup the same. It do not have problem about recording .
But Audition CS5.5 has problem about recording when I would record with setting up the same . I am very puzzle . I do not understand audition cs5.5 not same Older version . Why ? It is very difficult .

Why won't my iPhone play movies on TV like it's supposed to?

I've hooked everything up properly. Movies play just fine from my iPad2 but when I try and play a movie that I loaded onto my iPhone the tv just says "no signal". Movie plays fine on the phone itself. I even plugged phone into power source thinking maybe the phone didn't have enough power to play a movie on tv. Still "no signal". I'm on vacation and hoped to watch a couple of movies. Thanks for any help.

I don't know how to delete this query but I solved the problem. Seems my case was preventing the AV adapter connecting properly to the iPhone.

Rented movies won't start playing

I haven't been able to properly download movies from itunes thru my ATV since this afternoon. A rented movie usually starts at playing after 2 to five minutes of renting. I have rented Glenrgarry Glenross this afternoon it is almost 9 in the evening and I haven't been able to start watching. Anyone experiencing the same problem?

There may be issues or unusual demand with the service, if the situation persists you may want to try restarting your equipment (tv/router/itunes)

I recently upgraded to Lion. Every time I start up iMovie, it asks if I want to go ahead and generate thumbnails. I say OK, then it alerts me that it cannot file the file IMG_0073.MOV. Then it says "Without this file, the movie cannot play properly." It gives me the option to either cancel or search for the movie.
I don't have the old file it's looking for. I simply want to start a fresh movie with new material but cannot get past this hump. Based on the little research I have done, some people experienced this problem because the files were in aperture at some point, which was the case for me before when I used iMovie. I have since moved forward only with iPhoto but perhaps it's hung on an old file format?
I tried taking another old movie and renamed it IMG_0073.mov to see if I could simply select it, give it what it wants and move on but it won't let me select the file for some reason. I also tried removing iMovie and downloading a fresh version but that didn't work either. My BF tried removing pfiles (I think that's what it's called? but again no luck)
Please help! I must get this assignment done for a class!

ITunes won't start playing?

I have loaded some songs into itunes and they won't start playing. Some are purchased from the store and some are uploaded from CD, so I don't think it is a problem with the songs. I click on the song and click play, but it just sits at zero. I've tried pausing and starting again with no luck. I've got the most recent version of iTunes and all updates, but still no luck.
I can't find any relevant posts, any ideas anyone?

2009 iMAC running 10.10.2 won't accept or play commercial DVD movie?

I have recently installed OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2 on my late 2009 21.5 iMac. I have just tried to play a movie for the first time in a long time. I stream from netflix from time to time but this is the first commercial DVD I have put in in a year or so. Anyway, I put the disk in the slot and the computer accepts it for a short time and then ejects the disk. Nothing ever shows on the desk top to indicate a disk was inserted. I don't remember what application I used to play movies with. I thought I just popped them in and they ran. I thought perhaps it was Quick time that I used to use so I started that from applications I get some sort of iCloud version that I don't understand. If some kind person could tell me what is going on it would be most appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know what's going on with your Super Drive, but you might have better success with a better and faster player - that's also free. VLC Player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
is the best, most well-supported player out there, and many use of instead of Apple's software. It's that good.
If the player still doesn't work, the issue is more complicated.
1. Make sure you're completely up to date with your software. If you're not, it's possible your player won't work.
2. Clean up your Super Drive. Dust can accumulate in a Super Drive over the years. You'll want a DVD lens cleaner that you pop into your Super Drive slot. Maxell and Memorex sell them, and they're well under $10.
