Won't start won't load

Suddenly one of our iPods/4g stopped working. It has not a scratch on it, not been so much as bumped. It just stopped working. Yesterday, my husband tried to use it but for some reason it did not sync.....none of the songs went on it was blank. Today it doesn't work at all???   I would like to mention it was exchanged under warranty about 5 months ago from another that had stopped working.  It appeared to us at that time we were given a refurbished iPod because that is the case where the best buy associate got it. Help!?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

Hello Tara-louise,
I would be concerned too if my MacBook Pro was booting just to the gray screen with the Apple logo on it.  I recommend following the steps in the article below for the issue you are experiencing:

• My Premiere Elements 9 won´t start, it stars loading and then it stops.

After replacing two drivers (as Adobe told me to because wasn´t showing the preview of vids, just sound) my premiere elements won´t start. I replaced the files and didn´t start. Then I replaced those files with the originals that I saved just in case, but the same issue. Does anyone know how to start the program again?

• [solved] xfce4 won't start, "unable to load failsafe session"

Hello, after a recent upgrade (i guess), I restarted xfce4 and I am now receiving this error message:
Unable to load failsafe session
Unable to determine a failsafe session name. Possible causes:
xfconfd isn't running (D-Bus setup problem);
environment variable $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS is set incorrectly (must include "/etc"),
or xfce4-session is installed incorrectly
While trying to restart xfce4 again.
I'm using the radeon driver for an ati card btw.
I have dbus and hal installed. I am using openbox just fine at this very moment, except that it won't logout without a ctrl-alt-backspace. So something is wrong. I wish to have xfce4 running again though.
I have a very minimal xorg.conf, with no errors in my Xorg.0.log.
Did this happen to anyone else? I searched the forum and people fixed this same error message by installing dbus, but I have dbus installed... so it's weird.

Do you run Arch64?
If so, then
# pacman -Sy dbus
This thing will install "dbus *permissive-1" which, suprisingly enough, is not a dependency of xfce4. I don't know if it's built like that on purpose, or it's just a blunder... but it would make more sense to me if XFCE4 depended on that package.
After installing that and restarting hal (which wouldn't run properly, anyway) your XFCE4 should start.
I discovered that just recently on a virtual machine (normally I run 32-bit, and there is no such issue there).

• CS5 won't start - "Could not load actions because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered"

It's version 12.0.2. When I click ok, it says "Could not initialize photoshop because the preferences file was invalid (it has been deleted)".
Any ideas what I could do to get the program to start? I've restarted the machine several times.

I managed to sort this out now - by deleting preferences

• Tried updating 9810. now blackberry won't start. won't update.

Device info
i have a Torch 9810 unlocked that i'm using in UAE. it was running 7.1 and trying to update to the latest version.
Apps and free space
Phone won't turn on so i don't have this information
I tried to update to the latest version by plugging into my laptop and running Desktop software. luckily i did back up before doing anything. if pertinent, desktop software needed to update itself before itwould update my phone.
it gave me some error while trying to load the application modules and then just crashed.
now if i try to turn on the blackberry, it just loads up to the loading bar, the bar goes all the way to the end and stops there.
i connected it back to the laptop and tried to repair. it asked me to update again.
now when it tried to update, i get an error at the backup stage saying that application loader could not connect to my phone. and since the phone isn't working, it asks me to click igore and continue.
then it tries to install the new updated OS. it gets through enabling RAM or whatever, erasing applications, loading system software, waiting for device initialization, reconnecting to JVM. when it gets to "loading application modules", it gives me the following error:
The Application Loader could not connect to you Blackberry device. try the following actions"
(see pic)

i tried all the steps and clicked retry a few times. no luck. what do i do?
i wouldn't mind just restorng from my backup and using my phone like that. but i can't even get desktop software to allow for a restore at the moment.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

It sounds like there's something seriously wrong with the update process.  It appears that you're doing nothing wrong.  Since Desktop Software is giving you so much trouble, I would suggest perhaps taking your phone in for a replacement.  If your phone is newer than one year old, it will be free to exchange it (well, there might be a service charge but your carrier is responsible for exchanging it).
I would suggest following through on this suggestion.  Once you have your new phone, you can load the backup file that you created.  I don't know why you're having these issues but I wouldn't waste much more time on it.  Get a replacement and load your backup file on it.
I hope that helps you.
P.S.  My suggestion seems drastic but I'm not sure what else to suggest.  If you want to wait and see what other members suggest, that's fine, however I believe you have an issue that's not going to resolve itself very easily.
Cheers.

• Ipod won't start, won't charge , won't get recognised...

I just got a NEW ipod after my last one died on me a couple of days ago, and THIS one seems to have been destroyed already. It's run out of battery. When I connect it to the computer I may either:
a) get a "battery too low" message
b) get the Apples logo to show up, but not light up.
Even if I do get a, it eventually gets to b... meanwhile the ipod makes a sound as if its going to start spinning but then stops-
I can leave it for ages and nothing happens. NO charging... no change in the sounds it makes... I'm convinced the hard disk has some sort of problem.
thing is, apprently I can't get it serviced... I don't live in the US or in any of the other major countries, and my country in Europe is represented by none of the Independent third party countries that represent Apple. So have I just wasted my money to hear songs for 2 days? AS I said I've had nother Ipod, the exact same model... its not a problem of my cable nor my USB port- I always charged the other one just fine like I do with this one using both my laptop and desktop. The new has the same problem with both...

Can you return it to the retailer?

• Won't start, won't uninstall

This is on a PC running Windows 7 (64-bit) and Itunes 10.5
I haven't used itunes in a while but the popups were getting really annoying, so I gave in a updated it. Now when I try and open it, it takes 5-10min to open. I click to open it, wait, and give up and go to WMP. It's only then that it opens.
I've never liked Itunes but I'm stuck with it because of my Ipod Touch. I figured it was a bad update and decided to do an uninstall/reinstall. I went into control panel and tried uninstall but it just hangs right at the beginning of the uninstall. I let it go for half an hour and it still hasn't done anything.
I don't know what to do now. I'm stuck with a broken program and no way to get rid of it. I have no way to update the ipod.
How can I fix this?

OK, since doing this update that Apple just had to do, my PC is now running like **** (really slow, locks up). It's also crashed 4 times since the update. The only thing I can do is reboot the PC. I lost a important document I was working on when Itunes decided to open 20min after I gave up on it. This led to the string of crashes I'm now experiencing.
I'm now stuck with this crappy software because any attempt to uninstall it crashes my PC. Thanks Apple. System restore doesn't do anything. I guess I have to do a complete reinstall of the OS.
A couple of hours ago I had a prefectly go computer now I don't dare try and do any work that I need to do because it's just going to crash. How do I get this crap off my computer?
I am not going to reinstall this crapware, so I guess now I can't add/remove music from my expensive Ipod Touch 64GB. Is there any other program I can use?

• CS3 Premier Pro Won't Start due to Komplete 5 .dll Loading...

Hi,
I'm running Komplete 5 by Native Instruments on a brand new Quad Core laptop that was built and tweaked by a pro audio company that specializes in configuring machines for musicians. The Win XP Professional system runs very well.
After installing Adobe CS3 Suite, I noticed that the only program that won't start properly now is Premier Pro. When try to start Premier Pro 3.0, the splash screen opens and I can see the Komplete 5 software programs (Kontakt 3, Massive, Pro 53...) trying to load their .dll files. After a few seconds, Premier Pro quits and gives me a Runtime Error.
I've searched around a little bit and can't even find the .dll's for Komplete 5 to try the suggested experiment of moving them away out of their folder and then to bring them back after (if) I get Premier Pro to start as I have indexing turned off on the drives (which I "think" is to keep the system speedy?) so searching manually has not been easy so far. I looked in the vst folder and they are not there, unless I am missing something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Jerry,
You likely have an issue with one, or more, of the NI .dll's. There have been several issues with these. Do a search of this forum (go back to get all Premiere versions) for "Native Instruments." There are serveral threads on moving the .dll's, so that Premiere doesn't try to load them. Premiere will attempt to load every registered VST/.dll, as you have found. NI's do cause PP to hang.
Good luck,
Hunt

• Premiere will freeze at loading screen and won't start. Running win7 64bit

Hi, I'm having a bit of a problem here.
I just recently upgraded to CC because I had this issue with the CS 6 versions.
The problem:
Premiere Pro, inDesign, Illustrator and After Effects won't start. They will all get stuck at the loading screen. The weird thing is that Photoshop and Lightroom work without any problems.
I've tried restarting, completely wiping all Adobe Software with the cleaner tool and reinstalling. I've contacted support via chat and the couldn't find a fix. I then looked for weird processes in the task manager and found out that after a while (2-5 minutes) of letting Premiere show a blank loading screen (no "Loading ..." / "Initialising..." etc), suddenly "Loading ImporterPhotoshopProxy.prm" will appear and a process called "PhotoshopServer.exe" will show up in the task manager. If I kill this process then Premiere will start.
Has anyone had similar problems? Can't find anything on Google.
Thanks in advance.

If you had problems with CS6 upgrading to CC or CC2014 will not solve your problems.  You must have basic hardware/software problems that only will get worse going to more complex versions.  Do you have any third party codec pack installed?  You must have rogue processes running.  When you start up your system how many processes are running, look at your task manager?
What is your hardware configuration?

• C: drive won't start loading windows

Building a new system - I have a KT4V mainboard in aqn Antec case with a 2000+ CPU, GeForce 4 video card and a single floppy, CD-Rom, and 40 Gbyte drive.  Very easy install, zipped thru BIOS process with no problem, system correctly recognizes the components.  But when it boots now it gets to the point where all for D-Bracket lights are green, and just sits there with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner - won't start loading windows.  I put the disk in another system - loaded fine -it's ready to go.  Tried putting Windows XP startup disk in the cd.  It recognizes that windows is already installed on the C: drive.  I have tried repair and reinstall - after a few minutes the process hangs - I think when it tries to write to the disk for the first time.
I think I've tried everything.  Other than figuring out that I have to reverse the HDD Led connector, no progress.  :(

I bett the problem lies with the XP motherboard drivers loaded on the hard drive, it will not see the new board.
I would try to reboot on the old machine, load the new MB drivers into a folder on the desktop or wherever, then try to do a right click my computer>properties>hardware>device manager> + IDE ATA/ATIPI controler, uninstall both the primary and secondary channels. It will ask you to restart in between each one but don`t restart until done. Then instead of restarting that machine just shut down and swap the HD into the new system, hopefully it will see the IDE channel and when asked for drivers, direct it to the folder on the desktop or wherever you put them.
I just tryed to unistall both IDE channels on this machine and it reinstalled the drivers after reboot and then rebooted again so if it don`t work you should be able to put it back in the first machine.
Other then that, I think a fresh HD or one that has or needs a reformat installed on the new machine then add this one with the other programs you have as a slave to the first is going to be about the only way I know of.
