Won't stay connected to network

Not sure if this is a Safari problem or internal with my Mac somehow. I have a G5 and I connect to a router for wireless internet. I also connect to my printer through the same router.
I've noticed sometimes when I exit safari and then come back to the computer later and click the Safari Icon it sometimes doesn't connect to the internet without me having to go through a "Network Diagnostic" test. Then usually what happens is about half way through the diagnostics my internet home page will load, or I'll get to the end of the diagnostic and it says "your connection is working" and then the home page will appear.
The problem I have now is that my computer won't stay connected to my printer. If I try to print a document or photo it does not send it to the printer, however if I turn Safari on so I know I'm connected to the network then all of a sudden the printer will work.
I guess somehow my computer is automatically disconnecting from my network and I'm not sure why or how to fix it. I've gone into the network preferences an it always shows "airport" is on and I always show all "solid" in the little icon at the top that looks like a "fan".
Any thoughts here on why my comp doesn't seem to stay connected to the network?
Thank you.

HI,
Try updating your system software to 10.5.8 with the combo update available here.
http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
After the installation, repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Photosmart eStn C510a Zeen won't stay connected to network long enough to update software

My network connection to my printer works fine; but the zeen connection is intermittent.  And will not stay connected long enough to download the software update that it shows is available.  Sure wish I could use the USB port on the zeen to accomplish this software update.  Even though I do not know if it will fix my intermittent connection problem.  I have tried many resets and re-adding my network and re-syncing .....etc.

    Hi HankF,
I understand you have a Photosmart C510a and the Zeen doesn't seem to be staying connected to your network very steadily. I'm sorry to hear this, but I will do my best to help you.
Is the printer's connection also intermittent? When the Zeen won't connect, are you still able to print something from the computer?
How close is the Zeen to the router? Has it always been intermittent, or is this a newer development?
Once I have this information I should be able to offer some suggestions

  • IPad Won't Stay Connected to Networks without Internet Access

We use iPads for onsite demos with customers where we bring our own network using an ASUS WL-330N mobile router.
iPads on iOS6 will connect to the router but then anything that touches the internet, it bumps it off the WiFi network.
Upon reading some other postings we have even tried to route the IP for www.apple.com to the computer on the network with spotty success, about 20%. All we are attempting to do is use the iPad to hit a site hosted on a PC within the same network via IP Address. iPads on the exact same router at the same time running iOS5 work without issue, Android tablets, phones and iPhones on iOS5 or later work just fine.
There has to be a workaround for the iOS6 need to hit https://www.apple.com/library/test/success.html please assist.

    Same issue.
I use my private network just to print from my iPad, but as soon as i connect to my wifi, iPad tries to access internet (www.apple.com).
    No such issue with ios5.

  • Imac won't stay connected to wireless network

I recently moved and now my imac won't stay connected to my wireless network. Every other device connects just fine, so it's not the service, or the location, because devices are all in the same room.
Every time my computer goes to sleep it seems to completely forget how to connect to the internet. There is only one Network (mine) listed in preferred networks. The computer will connect only if I go to System Preferences and run through the Network Diagnostics to tell it exactly what to connect to. Each time it says my connection and internet are fine, which I know.
Please someone tell me how to get it to remember my network so I can stop going through the Diagnostics every time I want to use my internet.

Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.
If that doesn't work try changing channels on your Router.

  • Preferred wifi network won't stay connected

    Hi,
I have a 2010 macbook and since updating to Yosemite 10.10.2 the connection to my wifi won't stay connected - tends to last only 3/4 minutes before I have to manually reselect the network. It immediately reconnects without me having to retype the wifi password and the network is the only one in my preferred networks. There were no problems previously and the signal is consistent when other people connect laptops and iPads and I have my iPhone connected to it.
I have had a look at the standard apple troubleshooting guide for network issues but it's pretty useless as it seems to assume that the problem is with the router or with the network provider.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
    cheers

  • My iMac won't stay connected to the internet, even though all other computers in my house stay connected

My iMac won't stay connected to the internet, even though all other computers in my house stay connected, and its connection is set up the same way my fiance's macbook is (his macbook is about three years older than my iMac). Every time my computer goes into sleep mode and I come back (even if it's mere seconds after giving the black screen) I have no internet connection. I discovered a workaround for it some time ago, but now that is working less and less, and now my computer randomly disconnects WHILE I'm actively using the internet. Just a few minutes ago, the connection refused to come back until I restarted my computer, even though once again all other computers in the house were connected. The workaround I discovered before and which doesn't work as reliably now, is to click opne Airport at the top right of the screen, click "Open Network Preferences," then click "Assist me," then click "Diagnostics," and wait for everything to turn green again, signalling a connection.

Let's check the quality of your connection since signal strength alone does not insure a good connection. The "bars" that you see at the top of the iMac screen are there pretty much for show.
Hold down the option key on the iMac while you click on the Apple icon at the upper left corner of your screen and select System Profiler
Look down the list of items at the left of the window until you find the setting for Network, then click on AirPort.
In the window to the right, look for any listings of your wireless network name. You may possibly see two listings for the wireless network name.
We need for you to list the information that you see for Signal / Noise.  These will be negative numbers. Post back with your findings and we will continue.
In the meantime, please move any cordless phones that you have or any other electronic devices that are near the iMac as far away as possible from the iMac.
If the iMac is located in a corner or an enclosed area, give it as much room as possible since the wireless antenna is on the back of the iMac and it needs to be able to "see" the room.
Anything that you can do to minimize the number of obstructions like walls or furniture etc between the iMac and the wireless router will help the cause as well.

  • IPhone 3gs WI-Fi won't stay connected after 6.1 update

I have a 3gs and the wi-fi connections have been working fine on iOS 5.1 etc. until I just updated to 6.1.  Now it sees the networks that I normally connect to, but it won't connect unless I physically move closer to the source of the wi-fi signal in my office, ie. the Airport Extreme Router with the software update that just came out last week. I had this problem before and after I updated the router software.  No problem previously.  Its like the phone can't hold onto the wireless connection and either can't connect or won't stay connected.  I've hard re-booted, and reset network settings, etc.  No luck.  What's the problem and the solution?  Thanks.

  • My Macbook Pro suddenly won't stay connected to the internet.

My Macbook Pro recently has had problems staying connected to the Internet. Our other Macbook Pro is having the same problems. I have already spoken with with our ISP, AT&T. After trying several things, they said that it may have to do with Safari and that they couldn't suggest any settings changes to our browser because it might disqualify any warranties that we have on our Notebook if another company makes changes to it. I've spent hours and hours trying to resolve this and it's driving me nuts. Also my wireless HP Printer won't stay connected either. Not long ago AT&T sent us a new modem/router (all-in-one), that is why I called AT&T to see if it was the new modem. But come to think of it, I had called AT&T because of this connectivity issue and now I'm thinking that it wasn't them at all. Maybe it has to do with Apple. I'm a Apple lover, so please help!!!

Also my wireless HP Printer won't stay connected either.
Does that mean it won't stay connected to the network, or it's not reachable from your Mac? There's a difference.

  • Have an iMac G5 won't stay connect to the internet

Have an iMac G5 won't stay connect to the internet by cable/ethernet for more than minute or so.  After I reboot the Verizon modem I have five green lights, ethernet, network settings, isp, internet server all green.  Open browser, internet, server go red.  Somehow my grand-daughter downloaded some program that gives me a world back ground "Not licensed evaluation use only". If I change the background the world background comes right back.

    What make is the router?
What are the firewall settings on your Vista? What puzzles me is that your steam connection is fine and yet you cannot browse the internet.
I am sure you have right clicked on the system tray icon (wireless connection) and chose to repair the connection right?

  • My new iphone 6 plus won't stay connected to the internet

I rebooted my phone, reset the internet connection several times, and rebooted my wireless router and it still won't stay connected. Now what?

Can you go to the wifi settings and select your network and "forget" that network?  Are you on the latest update?  What version of iOS are you using?
    From another source:
Others have found that heading into Privacy > Location Services > System Settings (all the way down at the bottom > and turning off Wi-Fi Networking did the trick.

  • Native VPN PPTP client won't stay connected

    Folks,
I have setup my VPN using the Mac OSX native PPTP VPN client to connect to my client's work network. However, it appears that it won't stay connected.  I have been searching the net for answers.  I can't find a definitely one.  Does anyone have the same issue where you can share your solution with me please?
To be more specific, I have a Windows XP laptop and a Mac.  I connect to the same VPN on both machines.  The Windows XP laptop will stay connected while the mac will drop the connection randomly.  This is particularly true when my Mac went to sleep and then wake up.
In my PPTP VPN setup, I have already uncheck the option "Disconnect when user logs out" option in the Advance setting.
Also, this appears to be Mac OSX issue because I have another client where I can use the Cisco AnyWhere VPN client to connect and the connection stays connected all the time including the time when my Mac went into sleep mode.
My mac is the new MacBook Pro with Retina display running Mountain Lion (The original OS is Lion and then upgraded to Mountain Lion) and I am using the Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter to connect to my wire network.  It doesn't make much difference even if I switch over to a Wireless connection.  In both cases, the VPN just won't stay connected.
Can someone point me to the right direction as to where I can trouble shoot this please?  Thanks.

Thanks sberman.  In the article, it mentions something about VPN on Demand, where in the setup do you see this setup?  I am in the Network setup area and I am not finding this.  Also, if I turn on the "Use verbose loggin", where is the log file?  Is it still the /var/log/ppp.log file
Also, one more thing, my main ethernet connection setting does not include a proxy setting.  But my VPN setup includes a proxy setting.  Do you think that I may need to update the main ethernet setting to add the proxy setup to it as well? But I don't want to keep updating the main ethernet connection network setting to switch between proxy or not.  Any suggestion will be welcome.
    Thanks.

  • New iPod Touch Wifi won't stay connected?

Just bought new 16 GB iPod Touch, and it won't stay connected to my home WiFi. Even after a reset of network connection, re-enter WiFi info and Touch connects for a few minutes and then loses connectivity even tho WiFi bars still show. Turning WiFi off and on does not fix problem. Turning iPod off and back on will allow Touch to reconnect, but again only for a few minutes at best.

Does the iPod work OK with other networks?
    Do other devices work OK?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
