Won't Sync: no playlists exist catch 22
I've seen a lot of posts about this around the web and all of the solutions seem to be "change the iPod preferences when it's plugged in" - here's my new angle:
(Just upgraded to latest version of iTunes this morning by the way)
I plug in the nano, it says "can't sync, etc etc, all of the playlists selected no longer exist". It then pauses and the iPod screen returns to the main menu and iTunes has disconnected it. I'm free to change the settings, but when I click apply it can't find the nano because it's already ejected it, and throws an error, consequently I'm unable to actually change the settings about WHICH playlist(s) should be synced - does anyone know how I can get around this? I'm happy to start hacking config files if it'll help!
Did you have it set to sync to specific playlists which you subsequently deleted? If so, maybe you could try recreating the playlists (assuming you know the names). I don't know if it would work if it was just a playlist with the same name or if it would have to contain the same tracks.

Spotify Won't Sync my Playlists
So I joined Spotify way back a million years ago and it uploaded my music and my playlists. That's all well and good. But it won't add the playlists I've created in Windows Media Player since then or sync any of the playlist changes I've made. How can I get it to sync this? These playlists are also in Google Play as well, so if I can't sync my Windows Media Player anymore, maybe I could sync to Google Play? Thanks so much!
Hello and welcome:

Media sync - No playlists exist in your iTunes library
I just installed BlackBerry Media Sync 2.0.0.20 on Windows XP sp 3 for use with a BlackBerry Storm. When I open Media Sync, with the phone attached, I get the error "No playlists exist in your iTunes library". If I opne Media Sync without the phone attached, I'm prompted to attach the phone, and after doing so, I get the same error "No playlists exist in your iTunes library". Does anyone have any ideas? I opened iTunes, and found the location of my iTunes music folder is:
C:\Documents and Settings\Larry\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Solved!

Can you paste in the last 30 lines of the log file found at %appdata%\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Media Sync\Logs
This will help us troubleshoot.
Also: Did you upgrade from 1.1? If yes, was MediaSync working before?

ITunes won't sync smart playlists
So I have 8 smart playlists plus 6 normal playlists in my iTunes, it's all been working well and it's been syncing all of them until about a week ago. After I synced it, I noticed that only the normal playlists were on the ipod, not the smart ones while they are still showing in itunes, I tried re-syncing but it didn't work, I still only have normal playlists.... PLEASE HELP!
After some experimentation I have a solution that I find satisfactory for a smart playlist containing only podcasts, and not referencing any other playlist, AND still leaves the "Live Updating" checkbox selected.
What I did was...
- removed any references to other playlists in the Smart Playlist options.
- changed it to "Genre" "IS" "Podcast"
- added "Plays "Is Less Than" "1"
- Selected "Limit to" (in my case 25) "items" checkbox. (I coincidentally, also chose "by Artist" but it didn't matter.)
- Unselected the playlist, under the Podcasts tab, while the iPhone was connected...
-- Sync'ed the iPhone once without it selected.
-- reselected the Playlist under the Podcast tab of the iPhone options, and
--- re-synced with the playlist now selected again.
I have to say I am more than pleased that it not only is keeping the same order in iTunes as well as on the iPhone, but it also removes ON-THE-FLY! the podcasts as I completed listening to them - in the iPhone, without any sort of syncing enabled. I had always hoped that would work someday.
Thank you Apple. -
My webmail is auto signing me out several times a day, but only on this computer. It's set for 'private', I've uninstalled and reinstalled that program, cleared cache and re-started, same thing with Firefox.
Firefox is also frequently blocking pages from opening that apparently don't exist, and blocking non-existent pop-up windows as well.
Today I got an error message that my sync password was rejected, which is odd since it's set to manually sync and nothing's been changed. All the resets happened days ago. It also wouldn't let me use my password, but let me change it.
Since this is the only computer I'm having the problems on I'm assuming that it's either the version of Firefox that I'm using or something in my computer that suddenly isn't playing nice with Firefox, but I don't know where to start, other than once again un and re-installing it (which did nothing).
Thanks for any help!I kept getting that error message. I thought that since I'm syncing with my corporate email so the calendar syns wirelessly with Outlook, that it was causing a conflict.
I just found this post though, and other people said it worked for them

Amazing steps you've done so far! The great news is this is very unlikely an issue with your iPhone.
I've run into a similar issue lately as well. I narrowed it down to one song that was causing 30 songs not to sync. I removed the song from the sync list (unchecked it) and all 29 songs were able to sync.
You may be running into a similar issue. This may be a problem with this version of iTunes, an issue with one song or a group of songs; hard to know for sure. It's important to narrow down and isolate the cause. Most imporantly get that music back on there!
The way to narrow down the casue add just a few songs at a time (even 1, just to get that first sync finished). Manually syncing is what you'll need here.
Plug in your iPhone, on the Summary screen (shows a picture of your iPhone, the iOS version, Restore iPhone....; etc). Under the Options area at the bottom choose to Manually Manage Videos and Music then choose Apply in the lower right. The music that's on your iPhone now should be removed from your iPhone now. You're now able to sync music manually.
The link below explains how to drag the songs from the iTunes library on the computer on to your iPhone which will start the sync. Add just one song just to see if you can get 1 of those hundreds of songs on there. If you can, awesome! Keep adding until you find the song or group of songs that are causing this issue.

Please let me know how things are going.

Can any one help? Apple are rubbish and I refuse to hang on the phone and give them any more of my money.
Try and reset your iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.

So I updated my iPhone 5s to version 7.0.6 yesterday, and now my iPhone music isn't working properly. It won't sync the playlists that I added after the update though when it's plugged in on iTunes it says that the music is synced. When I select a song in a playlist on the phone it shuffles through the playlists for like 3 seconds and picks a totally different song to play. I tried reinstalling iTunes, I tried restoring the iPhone, is it just a bug with the update? Nothing works. Any solutions are welcome.
DFU mode? How do I do that? So far the only thing I can do is hold down both buttons to power it on and nothing is on the screen and it wont reconize on my computer....

I copied my entire iTunes folder to my new Mac and now new playlists won't sync to my iPhone.
Hi. I recently installed a new hard drive to my Macbook Pro and as I wanted a clean start decided not to restore from Time Machine. I just copied the entire old iTunes folder into my new music library. iTunes itself functions normally but it won't sync new playlists to my iPhone 5.
I had similar problems with syncing my iPhoto library to my iPhone through iTunes but I rebuilt the iPhoto library and that seemed to fix it. Is there a way to rebuild the iTunes library? I used this document:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
and was given error code -50 saying it was unable to import the playlists.
Any help greatly appreciated.

ITunes music playlists won't sync with iphone 5 and iPad 3 on iOS 7
my iphone 5 and "new" iPad 3 won't sync music playlists with itunes 11.1.4.62 and new iOS 7 platform.
I have spent countless hours trying to correct!!! What is taking Apple so long to address??? I get the greyed out songs with a circle on the left side (below). Never had this issue until iOS7. I'm running Windows 8.1. HELP!Version 11.1.5.5 of iTunes was just released today. If you update to that, does that help with the syncing troubles?

Yet another 'iPhone won't sync' thread
As the title says, my iPhone won't sync selected playlists from the iTunes library. It used to work just fine and then it stopped working. It goes through the syncing routine, but never shows the "Copying 1 of 1145: Song Name" that you expect to see when syncing. It finishes without error, but when I check the phone, there is still no new music on it. Syncing 'All Songs and Playlists' does seem to work. But I need Selected Playlists. Phone is 3.0.1, itunes is 8.2.1.
What I have tried:
Restoring phone
Updated iTunes today
Force quit iTunes trick
All combinations of rebooting
any ideas?Reset sync history. On a mac open isync then choose preferences and reset sync history. Be sure to back up your iPhone also before this happens. Are you sure that you don't have manually manage music and video checked underneath the options page when you first open iTunes? This could also possibly hinder your ability to sync over music.

My Girlfriend got a Brand new ipod nano fior chriistmas when we first tried to set it up itunes did not recognize the device, so we updated itunes to the lastest version and alas it recognized the device. unfortunately it would not sync i updated the ipod software through itunes without an issue, but it still will not sync when ever i try to sync, it flashes in the status bar for hardly even a split second and then it's over i've checked the properties to everything i can think of i've restarted quite a few times including factory resets. i don't know what is wrong or what i'm doing wrong any help would be appreciated
Same prob here. My new iPod Nano, 7th generation won't sync to my existing iTunes Library. My previous ipod syncs fine. Here's what happened. I connected my new one using USB port on my PC (os Windows 7). I then followed the onscreen instructions. I registered it, and updated the iPod software, and then I got to the sync step. I pressed the sync button several times and it would not sync. I did not get any error message. The iPod does appear not on the left hand pane. ( I think that was version 10) It does appear on the RIGHT side as my "ipod 16GB" (My old ipod was 8GB).
Any help would be greatly appreciated! -
Playsists selected for syncing no longer exist? ipod won't update
My new ipod won't update because it says that playlists I've selected for syncing no longer exist. For this reason I can't get any of my music onto my ipod and I don't understand what I am supposed to do to fix this
dell inspiron Windows XPHi guys, I've been having the same problem. Specifically, when I try to transfer songs from iTunes to my iPod I get the following error message: "Songs in the iPod "My iPod" cannot be updated because all the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist". I did some searching around at this site, and found that one possible problem is that my library is larger than my iPod's capacity, so I have to eliminate some songs. I did this, but I still get the same error message.

Weird playlist/ERROR message/won't sync songs/won't restore!
I just ran out of room on my ipod, and something came up saying do you want to create some playlist? I'm not sure exactly what it said, but it was so I can make more room on it. I went through my library and deleted songs I didn't want anymore and I deleted this playlist that my Itunes made by itself. I added my new songs, tried updating my ipod and it won't sync the songs. It says "Songs on the Ipod cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist." I tried restoring it, but another error came up. Nothing works.
Any ideas? Or do I have to take it in to the Apple Store?I assume you have seen this article regarding this error message.
iPod: Cannot restore or update in iTunes with error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439
It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive. I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread. He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

Songs cannot be synced: playlists selected for syncing no longer exist
"Songs on the ipod cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
I finally filled all of the memory in my nano for the first time, and I got a popup to put all of my playlists in one file so it wouldn't take up as much space. When I saw it, I deleted it, I wasn't aware of what was going on. I tried to fix it by changing the settings to manually sync music but that didn't work. Then I restored my ipod and now it doesn't have any songs on it. So I tried to uninstall everything, itunes and ipod to restore the settings back to normal but that didn't work either. Everytime I connect my nano, all it says it can't sync because the playlists don't exist anymore. I don't know what to do anymore. Can someone help me?
inspiron b130 laptop Windows XPBut then it says it can't read or write to my nano.
is that the message discussed in the following document?
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod
