Won't Sync, Not Enough Space?

Whenever I plug in my phone iTunes says:
"The iPhone cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (11.07 GB required, 6.86 GB available)."
The problem is I'm only trying to sync my music and 2 videos, which only totals about 4 GB. I've checked and unchecked all of the options and even restored my phone, but the error keeps popping up. In fact, now that I've restored it I only have Apps on it.

There may be something wrong with your iPhone's backup.
Go to iTunes preferences, and under the Devices tab, delete your iPhone's backup - if there is more than one that you don't need, delete them all.
Control-click on your iPhone in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back Up to create a new backup for your iPhone.
Try restoring your iPhone again from the new backup created.
If this doesn't work, try restoring your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.

  • New Ipod Nano - won't update "not enough space" but its empty!!

My wife's iPod Nano is brand new (I have a Video iPod so iPods are not new to me!)
I get the message that the iPod cannot be updated because library is too big etc....
    What I did:
    I reinstalled iTunes.
Restored library and unticked all tracks.
Downloaded updater and restored iPod Nano.
Tried to update "only checked" tracks - didn't work. Restarted system - settings of "checked songs" were saved - got same message.
Tried unchecking this and doing "only sleceted playlists" with a playlist of 208MB (iPod Nano model is 1Gb) - still got same message.
Tried everything I can think of - still no joy

Thanks for the suggestion but I am not using it as Firewire HD and I unchecked "enalbe disc use" anyway.#
Something is definitely not right somewhere - when I switch to manual management of tracks it works fine - its just a pain to do that all the time.
    Cheers

1.)  How do I organized my photo album on my ipad?
2.)  How do I remove an album on my ipad?
3.)  i have taken over 1,000 photos on ipad, now it won't sync stuff to the ipad because it said there is not enough space.  I want to delete some past synced photos from the computer to create space, but I don't know how to find it on computer.  It sycned a portion of a file onto the ipad which is useless to me so I want to delete it all & start fresh.
4.)  I was thinking about copying some of those photos over so it would show up as new data maybe then it would sync to my ipad as a new & competed album.  Or will this create more problem because it would only be creating more photos?
5.)  By the way, I don't know how to use dropbox or anything like it, so I take photos of some files & web screen that I use regularly to always have access regardless of internet access.  That is why I have so many photos.  But I want to be able to separate & organized them by files, web screens, or topics.  I also want to be able to delete & update as needed.
6.)  If needed I am willing to delete 4 G of downloaded app to create space.  Will this help the space issue?  Also could I just leave the downloaded app to my computer only & only sync to to ipad as needed, since I don't need app as regularly.  I NEED "photo" ALL of the TIME!  I am out in the field, instead of carrying stack & stack of papers, I carry ipad with photo of these daily needed papers!

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • Having problem with iPad sync getting pop up message as below. The iPad cannot be synced because there is not enough space to hold all of the items in the iTues library (additional 10.03 GB required).  There is enogh space be it in PC or on iPad.

Having problem with i Pad sync getting pop up message as below. The i Pad cannot be synced because there is not enough space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional 10.03 GB required).  There is enough space be it in PC or on i Pad. Why and What can be done to resolve, please advice appreciate. Thanks

It generally means - just using random numbers for examples - the iTunes on your computer holds 45 gig of content, you have a 16 gig iPad which has 13 gig of free space and the content just won't fit.
Easy solutions. go into iTunes and 'manually manage' your content. I believe this is in the main summary tab for your device (connect your device, click on the icon in iTunes to access controls for your iPad
You may also need to choose to manually control content in both the music and movie tabs.
    Apple - Support - Manuals
the manual will have more specific info for syncing and controlling content

  • When i sync my iphone it says cant backup not enough space on computer there is 140 gig of free space on my computer

when i sync my ipone is says that "it cant backup not enough space on this computer"  i have 140+ gigs of free space on my mac

Yea... agreed I had about 160 GB free on my Hard drive and tried to synce my iPhone 5S (currently about 32GB in use of 64) and iit says I don't have enough free space. Uh...yes....yes I do.   So I cleaned up backups in iTunes from my previous phone and moved some large files to my 1TB time capsule...now I have over 200GB Free...and yet...when I try to synce my phone and it moves to the "backup" part...it thinks for a moment...and then says...nope I don't have enough space on my hard drive.  Must be new Apple Math?   I ran diagnostics on my system...ran a full permissions check and cleaned up everything.  Personally..this particular iMac is older. Stuck on 10.6.8 --- I'm thinking it's some sort of 64bit/versus 32bit problem. Still, this should be considered a software defect. Apple needs to create a fix. Alternately... yes...I would like a new iMac, but they aren't free so... if anyone wants to upgrade me I won't turn you down.

  • ITunes crashes in iPhone sync. Not enough space

When trying to sync my iPhone with iTunes, the first several steps succeed, then am]n error message appears stating there is not enough space to continue. As soon as I click on the iPhone icon on the left, iTunes "unexpectedly quits"
Ther appears to be sufficient space on the hard drive and free space on the iPhone.
I am trying to restore to the last successful backup, (presumably there was sufficient space with that configuration), but as soon as I right-click to get to the restore command, iTunes crashes.
    Any suggestions??
    JD

Use disk utility and repair the permissions on the drive. If it won't let you run it against that partition, you may need to copy the data off of it to another partition, format it, then copy the data back.

  • Timeline won't back up (not enough space)

Timeline won't back up because it says there is not enough space on my external drive.  This never happened before.
I have 10.6.8.  I just restored my new hard drive from Timeline.  It was an easy restoration.  The first time I
backed up on Timeline, it said there was not enough space.  I do have my external drive partitioned.  I thought old backups
were deleted when the space was needed.  What happened? Thank You

I thought timeline deleted old backups on it's own so you would not run out of space.  Did I misunderstand this? Is it just a coincidence that this occcured the very first time I tried to back up after I restored my hard drive from the external drive, through Timeline?

  • HT1296 when syncing with itunes with my i pad it says not enough space ? dont know why as my i pad is a 16gb

When syncing with i tunes message comes up saying not enough space and i cant understand why as ipad is 16GB

    - Because as the message says what you want to sync to the iPad exceed the space available on the iPad. You either have to sync less to the iPad or delete some items from the iPad.
    - Also, in the colored bargraph that shows the distribution of storage on the iPad, how large is the "other" category? If larger than about 1 1/2 GB then restoring the iPod should reduce that so you can regain that storage.

  • My 4th gen ipod shuffle no longer selects a subset of my music libary to sync. All I get is not enough space message. Anybody know how to get around this without manually recreating 2 gb playlists?

When syncing my old 1st generation shuffle, itunes would select a subset of my music library. Now all I get is a not enough space message. I cannmot find a way to accomplish this and do not want to keep manually creating 2gb playlists. Does anybody know how to make itunes select songs from the music library?
As usual, Apple Help is of no help.  Thanks

I solved my problem by restoring the shuffle to factory settings on the summary screen. Now it seems to work the way it's supposed to. Many thanks to Apple for zero help, as usual. Apple should direct less resources to developing the next snazzy ipad and more to cleaning up and enhancing itunes. I'll make the same editorial comment about the iphone 4 voicemail options.

  • Wont sync because of not enough space but it also says i have free space at the bottom

I synced my entire itunes at first. Then  I got some more music off an old ipod and wanted to put it on knowing I have to select specific artist or albums instead of the whole collection. I have around 3000 songs on the ipod now. Its not letting me sync around 2000 songs it says because not enough space.  The gauge at the bottom says i have 6 gbs left and the ipod it self says it has 3 gbs.  This is all besides the point because Im trying to put less stuff on there.  Why?

    hey ,
if it is showing you 34 mails them it is correct. when you see your mail. apple has a smart way of arranging your mail.suppose you recieve 4 mails from one email id it will show you under one highlighted mail. so when you open a mail from anyone trying scrolling it down and you will find your missing mails.

  • Not Enough Space to Sync My Photos After Updating to 4.3

With iOS 4.2, I was able to sync my entire Aperture photo library to my iPad and still had about 3GB to spare on it. It's a 32GB iPad. If I recall correctly, the photos took up about 6GB on it. After updating to 4.3 today, iTunes is telling me that it can not sync my photos to it because there is not enough space.
How can this be? I had been syncing the entire library before with 4.2. OK, maybe Apple is optimizing the photos differently for 4.3 and they need more space, I don't know. I went ahead and cleared out all my video I had synced there along with some other stuff and freed up over 20GB of space which is available. Yet iTunes is still saying there's not enough space. How can this be? There was space with iOS 4.2, but not with 4.3. With 4.2 I had a few GB to spare even with my entire photo library synced. Now I freed up over 20GB and it's telling me it can not sync my photos.
So now I am going to try to selectively sync photos to my iPad instead of choosing the option to sync them all. I still don't understand why I was able to sync them all under 4.2, but not 4.3.

OK, I got it to work. Here is what I did.
First it seems that iTunes is over-estimating the size of the photo library before it re-optimizes it. I have 17k of photos that I sync. It was reporting it would need in excess of 30GB of space to sync it (actually it only reports that there's not enough space, it doesn't give you actual numbers, but I was able to calculate them).
So I cleared off all my videos from my iPad and whatever photos iTunes did sync to it and thus I had just over 20 GB free. Still wasn't enough space to sync my photos iTunes would report.
I know previously that my photos fit on my iPad under iOS 4.2 and even if Apple has changed the optimization process resulting in larger image files, I can't believe they would be 5x larger. So I decided to sync just a fraction of my photos. I synced about a third of my photos. iTunes reported that it would be using 10.5 GB of space for those photos. But once it optimized them and synced them to my iPad, it was less than 2GB of space. So I knew I would be able to fit them all, it is just that iTunes is over-estimating the size.
After a third of my photos were already synced to my iPad, now iTunes was reporting it would need 16.5GB for my entire library. I synced it.
In the end, I was able to sync my entire photo library back to my iPad and the resulting space used for it is 5.8 GB, not over 30GB as iTunes was estimating originally.
So if anyone else is having this issue, try clearing out some space on your iPad, and then syncing only a fraction of your library (a third or half) after that, then try syncing your entire library again. Once you do, you can put back media that you cleared out to make space.
    Cheers,
    Louis

  • IPad Syncing issue. Not enough space???

My iPad storage says it has 4.9 GB available under "settings", but when I try to put something on it (sync my iPad), I get the not enough space error message. What's up?

Sorry. That's not what I meant. I did some more reading and just decided to restore my iPad to factory settings and then restore via backup, which actually ended up giving me over 14GB back on my iPad. Obviously there was a significant issue and that solved it. Works perfectly now.

  • I transferred my files, including iTunes, to a new computer. When I go to sync, it says I'm still synced with the old, do I want to erase and resync. AND then it says not enough space. What to do?

I transferred my files, including iTunes, to a new computer. When I go to sync, it says I'm still synced with the old, do I want to erase and resync. AND then it says not enough space. What to do?

Pictures, assuming they were taken with the device, can be copied off at any time.  This has nothing to do with syncing.
If the pictures were instead synced to the device via iTunes, they are not the original images.  Instead, they are optimized copies of the originals for display on the iPhone.  There is software that can extract them, google it.
Where is the backup of the computer?  And before you ask, the iPhone, like all iDevices, is not and has never been a backup device.

  • HT1689 I am unable to sync my Ipod touch  due to not enough space ? I delet bunch of podcasts from my ipod  still not downloading ? help pl.

im unable to sync my ipod touch due to not enough space ? even after i deleted bunch of podcasts  from it ? help pl.

    - When you deleted them did the requested amount of storage space decrease?
    - Try resetting the iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - When you look at the colored bargraph of storage usage on the iPod in iTunes how much is taken up by "other". If greater than about 3/4 GB then restoring from backup usually reduced the "other".

  • ActiveSync Result: Not enough space on server. How can I help resolve this problem? Won't let me send out emails.

I can't seem to send out emails because I keep getting an error when it's trying to Sync by reading" There is not enough space on the server to sychronize info. Deletoe some old items from your exchange mailbox"
I dont have any messages in my folders, and I'm trying to send an email. How come this isn't working? Any way to help solve it would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Do you have any items in the delete items? If not check with your IT and see if any changes to the server was made or what could be causing this problem.
