Assuming that you've got the relevant iOS version on the iPad, then you can change it from a 15 minute period during which it doesn't need to be re-entered to immediately via Settings > General > Restrictions > Require Password

I can navigate to the pico prompt in terminal ... but when it asks for pw, I try to type, the cursor just blinks, doesn't move, nothing.
But if there's another way to edit this file, I'll try.
Just want to uncomment the line about php5 module.

I'm used to vi. You use control keys to navigate and make changes. It has two modes, command and insert. In command mode, to delete the '#' character, for example, move the cursor to '#' and type 'x' to delete it. Type 'i' to enter insert mode and add new text. Press 'esc' to go back to command mode.

Don't try that. Many tools will rightfully refuse to even launch if they detect that their administrative config files have been incorrectly modified.
internet chatter seems to suggest this 10.7.x is, like, super duper secure. And I'm new to macs. I'm logged in as admin, I have all the permissions I can find myself via finder ... but maybe there's a double-secret admin ...
There is, it is "sudo". Only an admin user has the ability to use sudo to gain root permissions.

Can't reset Apple ID password to download apps to iPhone 4S

I have tried to reset my Apple ID password to download app updates to my iPhone 4S. The 4S will NOT recognize the reset password. My iPad 2 and iTunes (MacBook Pro) WILL recognize the reset password for app updates. Solution??

First you must try to reset your password from the Apple ID support site - https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
If all efforts fail here, then you must contact "the iTunes store support", as these are the only people who have access to your Apple ID data. Technical support does not.

Apple Mail won't take Gmail password

Okay, this is driving me insane...
New MacBook Pro, mail won't take my Gmail password, changed password, no avail. Fine, I'll use the web based. New iPhone 5. Mail won't take password. Grrr. Any help? There were a couple of posts about application specific passwords and clearing captcha, but I'm not running a google app account.

any help with getting passcode to download apps, not get into the phone but to purchase or update apps?

Go into iTunes and then into iTunes Store.
- Open your account and it will ask for your password
- Click "Forgot Password"
It will then take you to a page which has two options.
- Option 1 will send you an email to allow you to reset your password.
- Option 2 will ask you your secret question and if you can answer it, it will give you your password.

HT5622 I keep getting a pop up about signing into an Icloud account. It won't take the password. I tried to log in on pc and sign in and screwed up on my security questions and it's kicked me out.. how long til I can try again?

I think i've made it that i have a separate icloud and apple id. I am trying to delete the icloud id. I made all the passwords the same so that there should be no problem but the phone won't still take the password. So when i went in again, looking to see if I could delete the icloud, i screwed up answering my security questions and am now unable to enter that icloud id. How long til I can again? Secondly, since the phone won't accept any password, I have tried to delete it. When I do that, it come up with a request for that same password to shut of the locator service. What the heck? It sounds like you have the Find my iphone Activation lock for sure. Go to www.icloud.com/find and see if you put in that Apple ID that is coming up and yoru password to see if you are able to sign into the account that way to turn it off. If you are unable to, you will have to contact AppleCare by phone (chat cannot handle account lock outs or forgotten password due to not being able to verify your identity) and see if they can reset it. And are you sure the Apple ID that is coming up yours?

When my wife bought this ipad 18 months ago, she (or the store) set up an Apple ID that had the extension @me.com. She never wrote down the password that was created. Neither of us knew how to change the password and retrieve or create the new one. When we started actually trying to download apps, this became a problem. She called customer support before the first year of ownership ended, and they created a new Apple ID. This ID works; we can go to the support site and log in with it, yada yada. However, when I go to the app store and want to get a new app or update an existing app, the Apple ID login field prepopulates with her original ID, which is no good to us. I can't find any way of putting in the new, valid Apple ID in this login field. Why doesn't the app store give me the option to change the Apple ID this device wants to use? How do I change this setting? I'm in a time crunch, and we need to be able to download and use a few apps for some business purposes.

settings -> iTunes & App Store
click on apple ID listed there
select Sign Out
sign in with the proper account
from then on, when the store ask for your password it should be with the correct ID

Password for downloading apps

I'm a new Mac user. I'm trying to download several applications but my Apple ID password is not accepted. It is accepted for anything other than downloading apps. I understood that the same password (Apple ID) would work on downloads as well. I tried resetting the password but I'm not able to 'break the code'.

I think you use a apple id to log into the app store to download stuff from there (I don't use the app store so I am assuming that fact). Generally you don't need any passwords to download from other places outside the app store. But no matter how you download the app, once downloaded, if it requires a password to install (didn't think anything from the app store would require that) then in all cases it is the admin password that is required.
If you didn't set up this machine and let a "genius" do it you need to contact him to find out what your admin password is.
