Won't wake up from sleep mode, keyboard won't type

When in sleep mode, can not wake, keyboard will not type. So far had several problems with Lion. First Time ever my imac slowed to a crawl and forced me to m power off.

Since you have a new machine, I would call Apple immediately and have them deal with the problem.

  • X1C won't wake up from sleep mode using keyboard

Hi...so finally got my X1C today. One thing I am noticing is that the machine won't wake up from sleep mode when I press any key on the keyboard -- it only wake up by pressing the power key. This is a bit unexpected to me. Is it by design, and is there any way to change this?
    Thanks for your help.

Does it awaken from stand-by if you press the Fn key? That's been the ThinkPad standard for as long as I can remember.

  • Computer won't wake up from sleep mode

Hello I am having an issue with my computer not waking up from sleep mode.
    Example:
I walk away from my computer for a certain amout of hours and it goes into sleep mode. I come back and move the mouse or hit any keys on the keyboard; nothing, doesnt come back to life.
I have the latest driver updates, I have tried looking this up but came up with nothing, and also I thought that I set it so it wouldn't go to sleep but don't know if I did it right.
    This is my computer:
Laptop Toshiba Qosmio x505-(sorry don't know the exact spec)
    Thank you,
    Dillan

Try resetting the power plans to the default. Enter this at an elevated command prompt.
       powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
If you need to repost, look on the Toshiba label on the bottom of your laptop. Gives us the full model name/number like Qosmio X505-Q830, and give us your model's part number like PQX33U-00K00H. As well, please confrim what OS version you're using like Windows 7 64bit.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Macbook Pro (2012) won't wake up from sleep mode

    Hi,
When I purchased the Macbook it came with Mountain Lion. It worked fine. Then I updated to Maverick and lots of problems happened. The most annoying one is the wake up thing. I was glad to update to Yosemite thinking that it would resolve my problems. Nope. It still wake up very slowly from sleep mode, sometimes not at all -- I have to shut it down.
I don't know what to do.
(BTW, I tried every trick suggested on the Apple support page: SMC, PRAM...)
    Help !

  • MacBook won't "wake up" from sleep mode since downloading Mavericks.

I have a 2008 MacBook and since downloading Mavericks, I've had a lot of issues when the computer is in "sleep mode." There are many times where it won't wake up and just remains a black screen. I'm forced to shut it down and turn it back on. When I do this, I have to login and it reloads everything I had had opened when it was put into sleep mode. Help! Thanks.

I have the same issue with my Macbook Pro 2.4
Have you by any chance installed a new RAM?. I've just added new 8 GB RAMs & I noticed the issue afterwards, but I'm still not sure if it's the cause.

  • My mac won't wake up from sleep mode?

Can someone help? My mac goes to sleep after I leave work and won't wake up when I get back to my office the next day. I have read some other people have posted similar issues but I don't find the answer which will work for me.
    thanks in advance.

    bryan808,
If your Mac happily goes to sleep but won't wake up--Hold down the power switch to force-reboot your machine and get it running again.
Don't worry-your Mac isn't narcoleptic. Its Open Firmware system or NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM) is likely corrupt, and your Mac can't remember how to wake up.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Command-Option-O-F key combo until you see a somewhat intimidating command-line display that ends with the Open Fimware prompt. Type the following line:
    reset-nvram
press the return key on your keyboard
    set-defaults
    press return
    reset-all
    press return
Your Mac will reboot. Once it's running, put it back to sleep to test. If the problem recurs your Energy Saver preferences may be the culprit. Delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file (go to Finder/Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration)--don't worry, your Mac will regenerate a new one--and then restart to see if that rights the wrong.
Still didn't work? Might be time to call AppleCare or see an Apple Genius or a technician.
    Cheers!

  • G5 won't wake up from sleep mode

G5 is a year old ,recently updated to 10.4.8. When placed in sleep mode, I am unable to get it to awaken either by use of mouse (Apple bluetooth) or keyboard (Apple bluetooth). Furthermore, the fan invariably runs wild and I must shut down manually through power button. Any thoughts?

I've been unable to get my G5 dual 2.3 up for over a week. I took it into the Apple store (the mothership in SF) and they said I probably needed a new logic board ($800-$900). I took the computer home to connect it to my Powerbook so I can get all the files off of it (connect using a Firewire cable and restart the bad Mac while holding down the "T" key; this starts it up as a very expensive external hard drive so you can at least access the files).
Not willing to just give in, I decided to check these groups for similar problems. It turns out this problem has hit hundreds of people since at least 2005! Apple hasn't fixed it, either. They don't seem to have a clue what to do. I think we should consider class action to get them to replace any Mac that has this problem. From what I've read, whenever people take it in for repairs, the problem never goes away.
I find it irritating that the computer/software industry is the only industry that can get away with selling faulty parts and then charge you to repair it.

  • Officejet 6500 won't wake up from sleep mode.

If I leave my printer on it goes into sleep mode.  Usually I can press a button on the key pad and it will 'wake up'.  Sometimes it seems to get stuck and the buttons don't do anything.  I can't even turn it off.  The on/off button just continuously flashes.  If I want to make a copy it's a pain.  Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?  Apparently from some of the reviews I've read online I'm not the only one with this problem.

To resolve the problem is by doing the steps below or by deactiving the sleep mode function.
NOTE: Don't change any other settings on the printer cause this will affect the firmware and the printer function.
    Workaround
    1. Press * and # at the same time.
    2. Press 1 , 2 , 4 in sequence
    3. Go for underware menu
    4. Go to System Menu
    5. Look for system mode time out.
    6. Set it to 0.
    Deactiviting the sleep mode
    1. Press * and # at the same time.
    2. Press 1 , 2 , 4 in sequence
    3. Go for underware menu
    4. Go to Scan VDW Manu
    5. Activate Sleep mode
    6. Set it off or 0.
Hopefully this have resolved your issue.

  • Powerbook won't wake up from sleep mode

Contrary to all the problems posted here of PBs unexpectedly beeing sent to sleep, my PB occurs to have a contrary problem for which I couldn't find a solution for.
When it is in sleep mode I can't awake it, neither by opening the lid nor pressing a key. I have to force shut down it by holding the power button and then it can restart it from save sleep aka hibernation. Furthermore the indicator light does not pulse but glow constantly when in sleep.
I tried to reset the PMU and the NVRAM but nothing seems to help. After resetting both the sleep and wakeup process will work fine one time, but really only one time. Upon next sleep (re-)activation the odd old problem occurs.
What could I try to get it properly working again?
Thanks in advance for your help - and sorry for my rusty English.

My own PowerBook has, on very rare occsions, suffered the same problem. As it happens so rarely (perhaps less than six times in three years) I have not been able to troubleshoot it.
However I have read on previous threads that some people had the issue resolved when Apple replaced the logic board for them - but I don't know if that was a definitive fix.

  • Satellite L505-S5988 won't wake up from sleep mode

I am running on windows 7.  My computer is just a month old.  After it goes into sleep mode, when I press a key or the power button to wake it up nothing happens on the display.  it sounds as if it wakes up and the indicator lights in the front change to all green, but the screen is blank.  I'm not great with computers.  I know its not a setting.  Toshiba just wants me to send it to the repair depot.  Can anyone please help me?

remove battery and power cord. hold power button for at least 30 seconds the reinstall battery and and see if it still does it. if not you have have to recover back to factory out of box with your recovery discs.

  • Mac Book Pro won't wake up from "sleep mode"

After putting laptop to sleep last night, I wake up to a computer in "sleep mode"
The screen is black and not responding, the sleep indicator is lit steadily (not slowly blinking as it normally does in sleep mode) but the computer does not seem to respond to anything. Screen stays black. Does anyone have same issue? I was told that the video chip is shot but I am not sure. Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.

An accumulation of old wireless networks you have joined can cause similar symptoms. If you can get the computer running, do System Preferences > Network and select the Airport connection, then click the "Advanced..." button. You should see a window listing all networks you've joined. Delete all except those you use on a weekly basis. Restart and try letting it sleep.
When my Late 2007 MBP had the same symptoms as you describe, the system log showed it was try to connect to a lodge network miles away where I stayed a few weeks before. Deleting about 30 unused networks accumulated during months or travel fixed the issue, and it's not recurred, because I kno keep the list tidy.

  • Laptop won't wake up from sleep mode

I have a Satellite L745-s2410 and usually whenever i close the lid to my laptop it goes into sleep mode and the orange light comes on and whenever I open it up again it would come back on (either automatically or just by moving the mouse or pressing the power button). However as of last week I noticed that when it goes into sleep mode it only comes back once. If i put the laptop to sleep again it will not come back and I am forced to either take out the battery or hold down the power button to turn it off. If you can please help me that would be great
    Thank you in advance,
    Eric

    Did this just start?
Try this. Turn off your laptop, unplug all wires, remove the battery, and hold the power button for thirty seconds. Afterwards, reattach the battery and connections. Then test it again.

  • My thunderbold won't wake up from sleep mode

Yesterday morning when I went to sit down at my desk and wake up my computer, my Thunderbolt display didn't wake up.  I normally just hit the space bar on the keypad or tap the finger glide mousepad.  However when I did that like I normally, nothing happened.  I had to unplug the Thunderbolt display from the macbook pro (8 months old macbook) and plug it back in for it to wake up.  Now every time I step away from my desk and my computer goes to sleep I have to unplug and replug the Thunderbolt display back in to get it to work.  Help!!

  • HP s5710t won't wake up from sleep mode unless re-booted

I have an HPs5710t with Windows 7 Home Premium system with Service Pack 1. Recently, the computer will go to sleep but tapping the space bar, mouse or keyboard will not wake it up. I've cleaned out the inside (canned air) and re-set the power settings so it "never" goes to sleep. But it does and the monitor (HPvs17e) blue light pulsates.  If I turn off the computer and re-boot, it will eventually turn on, but only after fiddling about 5 minutes. Can someone help me and talk me through what the issue may be?  Thanks!

We are using Win7 64bit with various HP laptops and with mostly all HP Compaq LA2205wg monitors.
I've done the following on several different computers at work that are having an issue similar to yours. The monitors go to sleep and the laptop goes to sleep thereafter. When we press the space bar to wake it up, we can hear the laptop dinging. We cannot turn the monitor power button on or off and have to unplug it to get any response.
All desks were having the same issue and all but one appears to be resolved which is a different model than the majority we have here. I am curious if there was something in the driver for the LA2205wg fixed the issue and hasn't been put into the ZR24w.
Here are what I found on various websites that looked promising (sorry I was only able to site one source.) I am trying the full breadth on the ZR24w:
    - *In bios* Updated driver - was set to generic pnp
    - *In bios* Set Runtime Power Management to Disable
    - *Set monitor* to not auto detect source and manually set it
    - *On monitor* Main Menu > Management > DDC/CI Support > set to OFF.
