Wondering how many folks are still happy with there REV A iMac 20"

I've had my iMacG5 20" (1st gen) now for 11 months and the only thing that has gone wrong is the power supply failed and had to be replace back in July 05. Apple sent me a NEW....Lacie D2 250 GB external hard drive for my troubles....Thanks Apple.
I have had other issues......but only ones I seem to have created on my own.

So......how's "YOUR" iMacG5 20" (FIRST GENERATION) holding up.

I bought my Rev A in November of last year. Up until a few weeks ago I was very happy with it, however it began doing strange things like switching itself off when it felt like it, now sleeping from the pre-set, then when I tried to sleep it from the Apple menu it would restart instead. (My daughter reckons as it was a year old it was probably teething, that's why it wouldn't sleep!)
Anyway, after several calls to Apple and finding that none of their suggestions worked, I took it in to be looked at. That was last week. They reckon it's a logic board failure and I could be waiting quite some time to get it back as there is a backlog and a wait for parts.
I feel a bit peeved about the wait as this is a problem Apple have know about for a while and I would have thought they would have stocked up on parts.
On a more positive note, I have been using Macs since my first computer - a Mac Plus - back in the 1980s and this is the first time I have had something go wrong with one. I'm also please I have the trusty iBook otherwise I would be suffering major withdrawals by now.

I've been reading about the new iMac and have seen that many people have a problem with it freezing way too often.
I'm wondering if this has been resolved or is this issue still going on?
I'm quiet keen on getting an iMac, 24" but really am starting to get a bit worried about the freezing. That is a big reason why I would be leaving Windows and so I wouldn't want to spend the money to have the same problems again.

I personally have bought a new 24'' model a week ago and I do have the freezing problem, too (as stated here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1533430&tstart=15). But as far as I have been investigating the problem is related only to nVidea Graphics Cards. So if you're planing to get a Radeon Version Model (HD 2600) I think you're not going to run into much problems (but I might still be wrong). Taking the 8800 GS Option you might have the same problems that I have. Since there is an awful lot of users I think (or better pray) that this a driver problem that can be solved by a simple software update (indeed I already read of some users with 10.5.3 (beta) who said that the problem would be fixed).
The be on the totally save side, I would wait until 10.5.3 (or a seperate graphic update) and then ask your question again.

I know it isn' exactly what you want but if you got to:-
System Administration->Support->Web Dynpro Test Tools->User Management
you can at least see the users currently running Web Dynpro applications (I think!)
At least its a start!

Can this be done in powershell or do i need to be looking somewhere else.

How many templates are in iWeb?

Greetings folks,
I am considering setting up a website for a business I have and am wondering if there is a good selection of templates to choose from and how many?
I have used Homepage to share photos before and feel that the selection of frames for instance is pretty sparse. For those of you using iWeb - are you happy with the variety??

Good afternoon. iWeb contains 12 themes, Formal, Road Trip, Freestyle, Nightlife, Modern, Kids Pink, Kids Blue, Baby, Travel, Watercolor, Black and White. Each theme has 6 templates, Welcome, About Me, Photos, Movie, Blog and Podcast. The 12 themes x 6 templates = 72 different pages, and you can always change the color schemes, print style, and add your own gifs, etc.
I have not downloaded the iWeb 1.1 update but understand that it has additional new themes each also having 6 templates. The looks you can create are endless it seems.

How Many Forms Developer Still Out There?

Just wondering how many of us forms developers are still out there that have stayed with forms?

It is very hard to know how many developers are using Forms since we sell a development suite. So we know how many organization bought it, but we don't know which component is actually used.
This is why we rely on indicators such as activity on the OTN forum, the metalink foru, the ODTUG forum and on google forum.
In all of those places you can see a lot of people asking about Forms which means there are a lot of developers.
We can also track how many people download Forms from OTN but again we can never know if they actually use it or not.

How many songs are checked in Your Music?

I am wondering if there is a quick way to know how many songs are checked in "Your Music"? I tried to select all (ctrl+a) but didnt see a number. I have heard there is a 10,000 song limit. Is this still the case? I use the check feature to denote preffered songs on albums, and keep track of what I have listened too. I do not want to invest this time if I am going to hit the 10,000 mark and I wont let me add any more or worse yet remove an old check to add a new one! Thanks

When you use the ctrl+a and all songs are highlighted, if you start to drag all tracks as you would when adding to a playlist, does a small context window open next to your mouse pointer informing you how many tracks you are dragging?
And sadly yes currently there is a 10,000 track limit in YOUR MUSIC. I still use playlists to add stuff and keep me aware of new things I add by date added to playlists and to know when something needs listening to next.
Now you can always uncheck content added under either SONGS or ALBUMS under YOUR MUSIC. And add new content each time if you are wanting to use it as a way to keep up with new stuff not listened to yet. Just click on either the tracks or albums check marks and click on the X on mouse hover to change them from a check mark to an X to remove those items, and you should be able to change out content that way.

How many websites can i host with a webCommerce plan?

I'm wondering how many websites I can host if I have a webCommerce plan? I see that it says 3 users, does that mean website essentially? I currently use Dreamhost and they allow me to host an extremely large number of websites for a low yearly price. I do want to be able to incorporate eCommece with Adobe Muse so the webCommerce sounds inticing but it's hard to justify without being able to host a wide varity of sites since the webCommerce plan is almost 5x's at much than Dreamhost.
If the answer is yes only 3 websites unless you pay more per site, then does that allow you to have sub-domains off of a website? For example if I had 3 sites total and one of them is www.bubslove.com - can I host www.party.bubslove.com without it taking up 1 user?

First off, aside from being a registrar, through its parent company New Dream Network, Dreamhost just offers hosting. A place on a server to store the website(s) you build from Scratch.
Business Catalyst offers a BaaS model, where all the struggle of developing an effective business platform, complete with site analytics, content management, social media sharing, phone and tablet support, sftp & file management, hosted e-mail accounts, dynamic menu builders, blogging engine, customer database, e-mail marketing, forums, e-commerce platforms, business reporting, event booking and webapps is turned into a process as easy as carrying out a few clicks.
Now, the 3 users you mentioned are actually the number of administrator accounts offered for a single BC account.
You could host multiple websites under a single bc account, as long as you keep some things in mind:
- You can add multiple domains to a BC account, each one pointing to a separate page. You can add as many sub-domains as you like
- Each "separate site" can be customized in any way you like, using separate templates and stylesheets and with custom templates for modules
- System messages, invoices, the shopping cart, system e-mails, will each share a single template (though with some javascript some of these can also be adapted)
- There will only be a single sitemap available
A significant advantage of this scenario would be to have a single CRM database for all the websites involved! Now, depending on the complexity of the sites involved this "multiple-sites-under-one-account" strategy can either be a piece of cake (a few microsites) or an elaborate adventure ( when talking about e-commerce, if you want customized system e-mails and a separate checkout experience for each site)
To conclude, the base of starting this comparison between Dreamhost and Business Catalyst is not justified. For whatever you would pay at Dreamhost, you'd only get storage. You'll add development & support costs To that. With BC's e-Commerce plan you get a complete business setup

How many books are approved a day - here are some stats

Do you want to know why it is taking forever to get your iBook approved? Do you wonder how many books are actually approved per day? I was asking myself the same question and because Apple doesn't release any numbers, I monitored the numbers on the iBookstore recently to get an idea.
Here are the numbers (just to get a rough idea, not scientifically proven)
The iBookstore has finally a feature that lets you browse only iBooks (aka Multi-Touch Books). It displays the numbers of all available Paid and Free iBooks. That is what I was monitoring each morning.
When I started to monitor the iBookstore on May15th it had a total of 3,217 iBooks. If you use January 19th as the start date, then Apple would have approved an average of 26 books a day.
Now here is a table where I wrote down the number from the iBookstore each morning of that day. The two columns next to it show the difference (how many approved that day) and the total number of approved iBooks (paid and free)
There are a few interesting conclusions you can draw from the numbers.
* You see a drop over the weekend. Maybe that is proof that the department is located in the US and not in China or India.
* The approval numbers fluctuate but the average is about twice as high as the 26 books from the original start. So they must have hired more staff (or reading faster)
* Interesting that there was a big junk of free iBooks yanked off the bookstore
Another unscientific info about the bestseller ranking from my own stats.
With about 10 sales a day I land in the 30s rank.
WIth about 2 sales a day it ranges from number 50-100
Those numbers fluctuate wildly and I'm sure there are other factors (i.e. total sales) in that calculation.
It would be interesting to hear numbers and experiences from other users.

These numbers are upper bounds, as book titles can be in up to three categories. So the real number of unique titles is probably closer to 1/3 or 1/2 of the 1.33 million, which is close to K T's 700,000 number.
Amazon and Apple are similar in total number of titles (with a few different categories). I had expected there to be much less titles in the Apple bookstore compared to Amazon. So selection size isn't much of a differentiator anymore. That said, number of sales are still far higher in the Amazon store. Many early eBook adopters still prefer their Kindle over the iPad when looking for new eBooks.

HT204074 I do not see a "Manage Devices" link when I access my account information through iTunes. I want to know how many devices are linked to my account. Can anyone help?

I have accessed the Apple Support site http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627 but I could not find the "Manage Devices" link on iTunes. The advice they give is as follows:
You can view which devices or computers are currently associated, remove unused devices or computers, and see how long before they can be associated with a different Apple ID from the Account Information page in iTunes on your computer:
Open iTunes.
Sign in to your Apple ID by choosing Store > Sign In from the iTunes menu.
Choose Store > View My Account from the iTunes menu.
From the Account Information screen, click Manage Devices.
Next to each device or computer name, you will be able to see when each was associated to your Apple ID. You will also be able to track how many days are remaining before your associated devices or computers can be associated to a different Apple ID.

Now i got my self a new iPad and created a new apple ID which i recently accociated with ITunes and ICloud.
However, i can't update anything on my Mac since it still requires the old apple id, even though i changed it anywhere i could.
I also don't get the manage devices when i tried to do this through the iTunes.
I have no idea what to do.

I've owned a lot of electronics and feel the Touch is the coolest of them all. Now that I've got a MiFi I can listen to Pandora pretty much anywhere, on my TOuch. We just drove from San Jose to LA and had Pandora on the entire time, in the car. Very awesome. There is an app for just about anything imaginable with many of them being free. While the screen doesn't have the gorgeous blacks and color of the BB Storm, it's still cool to watch movies on the Touch, play various games, view the internet, and on and on. My wife and I both use our Touchs every day and by plugging in to recharge when the indicator shows about 1/2 charge, we don't run out of juice to use them to our heart's content. Highly recommended. You can even straighten pictures on the wall with a Touch!

How many GBs are free in a 17" CD2 160HD when you buy it?

A 160Hd comes formatted and with the OS X installed... I'd like to know how many GBs are free to put your things there. I guess it's maybe something like 120GB?

Can someone explain where the other GB's go? My 15 inch came the same way... however, even doing System Profile, does not indicate it is a 160 GB hard drive. It reports as indicated a 149.5 etc.
In brief, when you see HD capacity advertised as 60GB, 80GB, 100GB etc, that's the marketing way where they take "decimal" road and base 1GB as being equal to 1,000,000,000 bytes. This is true for all HD manufacturers and computer manufacturers.
Once upon a time, computer professionals noticed that 1,024 bytes (binary) was very nearly equal to 1,000 (decimal) and started using the prefix "kilo" to mean 1,024. That worked well enough for a decade or two because everybody who talked kilobytes knew that the term implied 1,024 bytes. But, almost overnight a much more numerous "everybody" bought computers, and the trade computer professionals needed to talk to physicists and engineers and even to ordinary people, most of whom know that a kilometer is 1,000 meters and a kilogram is 1,000 grams.
Often when two or more people begin discussing storage capacity, some will refer to binary values and others will refer to decimal values without making distinction between the two. This has caused much confusion in the past (and still does). In an effort to dispatch this confusion, all major disc drive manufacturers use decimal values when discussing storage capacity.
Some simple arithmetic will convert the advertised (decimal) capacity to the actual (binary) capacity:
1KB = 1,024 bytes
1MB = 1,024 x 1,024 bytes = 1,048,576 bytes
1GB = 1,024 x 1,024 x 1,024 bytes = 1,073,741,824 bytes
Therefore, in your specific case:
160GB (decimal) = 160 ÷ 1.073741824 = 149.01161193848 GB (binary or actual capacity)
Rounded off to two decimal points = 149.01 GB
I hope this clarifies it for you and explains the reasons for the discrepancy.
