Wondering what Graphics Card everyone is using!

What Graphics Card do you use?

I have an AGP ATI rage pro turbo (old but still very functional, and better than the Voodoo 3 3000 PCI that I was running previously) Being a college student and not having much money kinda makes you poor so I probably won't get a good Vid card until next summer, when I can afford to upgrade some more...

  • What graphics card did you use with the Asus A8AE LE motherboard?

I have an old a1210n with an A8AE LE motherboard with a PCIe x16 slot 1.0.   I wish to know what graphics cards  anyone has successfully run on that motherboard (see the computer model list below)?  Unfortunately, what should theoretically function often doesn't.   I tried an HD 4850 that produced only scrambled video, despite reading a slower hd 4830 and 4650 had worked.
Searching this board and others got me the names of some functioning cards (that are either too slow or too expensive,( I am looking for a passmark score of about 1000): 7800 oc, x1600xt, 8600gs, , hd 6850, gtx 470.  I was surprised/skeptical at the last 2.
    The HD 5750, 5450, 5870, 5770 failed.

    Hi,
I am not surprised that the AMD 5xxx cards failed.  I have seen posts on the forum where these cards would not work in older HP PCs.

  • G5 Sluggish Interface - What graphics card are you using?

I like some others on here am experiencing a sluggish L8 Interface.
I know that L8 is optomised for the intel machines, but i want to know if this is at all dependent on the graphics card
    My G5 has the (lowly):
    GeForce FX 5200
    64meg
    AGP
Can others list theirs and whether or not it is sluggish or not.
    Rob

I have nearly the same machine, but with an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 64 MB card. I think this was the more pro card when I bought the DP 1.8. LP8 graphics are only a bit slower than LP7. Doesn't bother me much.
LP8 is quite usable on my 2 G5's.
I would wait for Leopard/LP8.0.1 and see if these fix the sluggisness.

  • What graphics card to buy for my PC so I can use target display on iMac?

    Hey,
Currently I have a ATI Radeon 5850 in my PC which I use to play BC2. I have my iMac which I use primarily, and a second screen next to it when I want to play BC2. I wish to get rid of the smaller screen and just use the iMac screen.
I understand that I can not use the 5850 with the iMac in target display mode.
What graphics card choices do I have so I can use it with the iMac in target display mode?
Is it just graphics cards that have Mini Display ports as standard? I know the 5870 Eyefinity edition works with target display mode, but this is outside of the price range Im looking for. Is there a solution for around £250 as I can always sell the 5850. I dont mind going Nvidia, Does anybody know if the GeForce 460/470 works with the iMac?
    Thanks, Simon.

Ive just saw that the new HD 6870 has mini display ports, and is in the perfect price range for me. Can anybody confirm that this card would work with target display mode?
    Thanks.

  • HP ENVY 700-074 Desktop - what graphics card do I need to install to use a blu ray player?

I purchased an external blu ray player - "LG 14x external blu-ray/dvd writer super multi blue be14".  For some reason I thought my system was compatible.  However, it's not - apparently the Intel(R) 4600 won't work.  What graphics card would I need to install to allow using this blu-ray device?  What else do I need to know?

Ah, I should add, the Blu ray player's support site (for Cyberlink) suggested a pile of different drivers - 30 or 40, but didn't offer any specifics regarding my particular system. What I really need to know is what would be the best option for my particular system.

and in system report >> hardware >> Graphics/Display >> it shows both grafics card listed.

Some Mac's when the RAM is increased the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics will bump itself up to the higher video RAM it takes, this seems to be what occured.
It also means the dedicated graphics card will be used less, but only so slightly less.
You obviously still should have both, you can test this by turning off Graphics Switching in Energy Saver, that will use the decicated AMD card all the time.

  • Slimline s5-1010 - HDMI graphics card upgrade, what graphics cards will work in slimline box?

Slimline s5-1010 - HDMI graphics card upgrade, what graphics cards will work in slimline box?  Cheap will do, under 100.  Has 1 PCI Express x16, but the slot on back of pc looks about 2" too short for this?

    Hi-
I think you will find there are more users of the ATI Radeon 9800 that DON'T have a 300w PSU, than those that do. It would leave out the majority of the G4 line if it were absolutely necessary. As I see it, it isn't absolutely necessary, and, it is also the ONLY higher end upgrade graphics card commercially produced for 2x, 4x AGP systems, most of which, DON'T have a 300w PSU.
My Sawtooth has a 237w PSU, and the 9800, and my processor upgrade, and 2 internal drives, all work just fine!
As for the piggyback connection, that is how you connect the power to the 9800. A splitter molex cable is used to split power from the superdrive connection, between the superdrive and the 9800.

  • What graphics card should I put in my Pavilion 23t AIO to run Battlefield 3?

The graphics card in the Pavilion 23t isn't suited for gaming, which another person has already told me, so I'm wondering which graphics card and/or other parts should I replace in my computer in order to be able to play games like Team Fortress 2 or Battlefield 3 smoothly.

    BH,
It's very likely the user does not know the actual model #.  The faceplate on the monitor is 23tm. Needs to look on the backside for the model # or actual product #. Either way, there is no physical means of changing out the CPU or GPU. The AIO series were never meant to be gamer's delight.

  • What graphics card is compatable with my presario sr1710nx pc.

What graphics card is compatable with my presario sr1710nx pc?  The current one died and I get nothing on my monitor and I tried connecting another monitor and still nothing.  So I assume it is the grahics card.

    Hi:
    That is an old model.
The specs state it has onboard (integrated graphics).
If you are sure it is just the graphics that is kaput (you would know that if you hear Windows boot up and the logon music sounds or something) then...
I would get a used Dell Radeon HD 2400 on eBay which should work just fine for you, but you will need to have a monitor with a DVI connection and a DVI cable.
This is the cheapest one I could find.

  • HT201250 I use Time Machine to back up my entire computer with my external hard drive. I am getting a brand new iMac this month and was wondering what is the process of using this back up to restore my new computer exactly how my old computer was?

I use Time Machine to back up my entire computer with my external hard drive. I am getting a brand new iMac this month and was wondering what is the process of using this back up to restore my new computer exactly how my old computer was? I want to make sure I will still have various important files on my new computer, like my songs in iTunes, my photos in iPhoto, etc, etc. Thanks so much in advance!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you turn on the new iMac for the first time, Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so connect the external disk and follow steps to restore all your files to your new iMac. Your new Mac will have the same settings and programs as your old computer.
In other cases, I would recommend to restore the whole backup without using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant, but a Late 2012 iMac uses a special OS X build, so the OS X version that you're using on your old Mac won't work on the new one. • What graphics card is in my Mac?

    Hi all,
I'd like to find-out what graphics card is in my Mac.
    system_profiler list the following:
    PCI/AGP Cards:
    ATY,RV360:
    Type: display
    Bus: AGP
    Slot: SLOT-1
    VRAM (Total): 128 MB
    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
    Device ID: 0x4152
    Revision ID: 0x0000
    ROM Revision: 113-A13602-121
If indeed this is the graphics card, it only tells me Radeon, but which model?
In the "Extensions:" list one may find many (e.g. 8500, 9700, Rage etc), but
    this is a different story.
Does anyone know how to get the model from the system?
    Thanks
    Miklos

    The key is the line:
    <pre class=command>ATY,RV360:</pre>
If you lookup "ATI' and 'RV360' you'll find it matches the ATI Radeon 9600XT chipset.
You can also download ATI's driver utility to get information on your video card: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894

  • What graphic card do I have in my MacBook?

I think this is a stupid question, but what graphic card do I have in my notebook? The Windows Device Manager lists "ATI Mobility Radeon X1600" whereas on the Apple.com site "NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT" is listed.
    I have a MacBook Pro 17"

Only the latest release of the MacBook Pro has the nVidia 8600. Previous versions had the Radeon X1600.

  • What graphics card or cards Mac Pro and Dual 30 inch ACD's?

I am hoping that you can all help with a few questions regarding running two 30 inch displays in a new Mac Pro and using Final Cut Pro, Motion, and After Effects.
My issue is which card(s) to order... Two NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB or the ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB.
Can FCP work off of two different Graphics Cards? I would hook one display to each NVIDIA card via the Dual Link DVI port.
Or with the ATI, I would hook one monitor to the Dual Link DVI and one to the Mini Display Port with the adapter.
The ATI is obviously a more powerful card individually; but, two NVIDIA cards would allow for each monitor its own "lane," which seems like it would be an advantage.
Any advice would be great. I am primarily an FCP user and probably hit After Effects for 25% of my work.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Neither Motion or Color support dual graphics cards.
FCP used to have issues but they have been addressed in v7 (reportedly).
The 4870 is the better card by far but don't know if it will support 2 30" monitors. In any case, you are spreading the VRAM over a lot of pixels. You'd probably have better response driving 2 24" monitors.

fwiw - I don't see the benefit of gigantic monitors. They take up an enormous amount of desktop space, draw a small city's worth of power and don't offer that many more pixels.

  • What graphics card to use? (i3, 16GB Ram)

    Hello!
So I'm planning on upgrading my computer, since I am only moderatly pleased with the Intel onboard Graphics Card. I would also like to do it as cheap as possible (So for around 250$) I also need the card capacity to support 3 monitors.
    My current specs:
    Motherboard:      ASUS P8 LX Z77-V
    Prozessor:          Intel i3-3220T @2.80 GHz
    Memory:             16.0 Gb
    Power Supply:    500W
    OS:                    Windows 7, 64 Bit
    Storage:             2 Hard Drives
I'm mostly running AfterEffects and Premiere CS6 (Planning on a upgrading to CC) and would like to get as much speed for it as possible.
So I'm planning on buying an SSD to Export/Inport Footage and to store the Programm on. And now I need to find e fitting graphics card,
At first I was thinking an Nvidia GeForce GTX 760, but a friend of mine said my Processor and Memory wouldn't be enough to feed the card the data it can take, is that true?
He then told me that the GTX 650 would be good, but I personally aren't convinced it is good enough...
So what would you recommend me? I'm so lost :/
    Thanks alot
    Alec

    Alec,
If you go for that GTX 760, you'd only be throwing away good money after bad, in your instance (as cc_merchant has stated). I would only get that GPU if you're planning to upgrade the CPU and/or motherboard, as well as the amount of RAM and an additional number of disks, in the near future. If on the other hand you'll be stuck with that dual-core i3 for years to come, don't waste your money on anything higher than a 1GB GTX 650 since the i3 CPU doesn't handle the editing of any video at any resolution above 480i SD very well (I was going to say 320x240, but almost all 320x240 video is encoded in distribution codecs that are unsuitable for editing). The 2GB version of the GTX 650 is overkill for that present i3 setup, in this case, since the CPU just can't handle any content that requires more than 1GB of VRAM well.
As for the GT 640, be aware that there are two different versions of the GT 640: Most top-tier graphics card brands still sell the original version of the GT 640, based on a GK107 GPU and using 128-bit DDR3 VRAM that has a throughput of only 28.5 GB/s. A few lesser-known graphics card brands have started to sell a newer version of the GT 640, based on a GK208 GPU and 64-bit GDDR5 VRAM that has a throughput of 40.1 GB/s. But given the relatively low clock speed of that i3-3220T and the fact that it neither has a Turbo Boost feature nor can be overclocked at all, even the original GT 640 may suffice for many uses for that PC.
