Wont boot after update last night *FIXED*

After I installed the latest update last night (3/23/13) my phone just sits at that red looking eye. There's animations like the lightning moving around, but wont actually boot. I've tried soft rebooting and the recovery boot, but still nothing. Looks like I'm going to have to take it back to the store and lose all my information. Absolutely ridiculous!
Well, for some reason I cant reply to threads, so Im updating the solution here.
Took the phone to the store and the Tech Specialist said the reason it was hanging up is because I have my phone encrypted when you shut it off. SO, basically if you have your phone pass worded, you have to factory reset your phone and lose all of your data. And, as an added bonus, you wont be able to access your microSD card either, since it is encrypted! The card thinks your connecting it to a different device, and even after entering your password you still cant access it. Wonderful! The only way for the card to recognize your factory reset phone is to reformat it. Brilliant! *** is wrong with the eggheads at Google??? I was the 5th person to goto the store with this issue, and the store had only been open 30 min. NOTE TO VERIZON! PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL OR OTHER MESSAGE TO ALL YOUR CUSTOMERS REGARDING THIS CLUSTER! This was a huge waste of time, AND data loss!!!!!

Happy day DMONIC,
I know that it has been a few days since your device has been rebooting. budone gave an excellent recommendation. May I ask have you tried a factory reset yet? I know you may be concerned about your personal info. The great news is that your contacts and calendar entries are safely backed up on your Gmail account. I would suggest verifying that you info is preserved online beofre doing the reset. If you have already resolved this issue or need additional assistance then please advise, just in case more help is needed.
Thank you...

• Imac wont boot after this last update

I downloaded an update (automatically through software update). After it installed it told me to wait for computer to restart and then hold power button until the long tone, then it should be done. I did that with no problem.
Ever since then though it wont boot regularly. It wither sits at grey screen forever OR gives me the prohibit sign. The only way to get it to work it to hold that power button until the long tone again.
Any idea whats wrong and how i fix it??
Thanks in advance for any help.

The long tone is an indication that a firmware update is installing. Do you get a progress bar at the bottom of you screen after letting the power button go?
Have you reset the PRAM? (cmdalt+PR when you restart the machine)

• Macbook wont boot after updating ram

Please help,
I have a white macbook mid 2010 model. Today I attempted to upgrade the RAM in my machine but to no avail. The ram I purchased was 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) - DDR3 SDRAM - 1333 MHz DDR3-1333/PC3-10666 - Non-ECC - Unbuffered - 204-pin SoDIMM PNY 4GB DDR3 SDRAM. I already tried to upgrade a few years ago so I had 3gb or RAM in my machine. I wanted to buy a 4gb stick and use it along side the 2gb stick that I have in now. When I put both sticks in my computer just beeps and wont boot. It will however boot, if i put either stick in alongside one of the original sticks that my machine came with, which would either give me 5gb or 3gb. I have seen people with similiar issues and the answers given was bad ram or bad memory slots. If the memory or the slot was bad, it would work at all no matter what combination you used so that really dosen't make any sense to me. If someone could help me, I would appreciate it.

If you bought your RAM at a place that also sells PC RAM you may have gotten mislabelled RAM. PCs can handle different RAM speeds so they’ll often label higher speed RAM as a lower speed rather than make two different speeds of RAM. But Macs are much more picky. They require a RAM stick to be exactly 1066mhz not 1333mhz. The way to tell is to put one of your old RAM sticks in and it will force the new RAM to run at the correct speed. Your MacBook requires 1066mhz RAM not 1333mhz.
These are good online stores for Mac compatible RAM
OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_Whi te - They offer Mac tested RAM at very good prices.
Crucial Memory http://www.crucial.com/ - good place to buy RAM from all over the world. They also have an excellent memory selector that allows you to choose memory based on your computer's model

• IMac G5 Wont Boot After Update

I just ran a software update and all I get now is a blinking folder/finder icon. I also have a disk in the drive that I cannot eject. I only have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard, so I have not been able to eject the disk in order to boot from the Mac OS DVD. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Welcome to Discussions - there is an extensive discussion, with fixes, for problems that occur after the updates HERE.
With respect to getting the disc out, try laying your iMac flat on it's face, on a soft towel, and pressing the eject button on the keyboard. Once you get the disk out, try and boot from your install disk.
Please let us know how you make out,
Miriam

• Mac wont boot after update

I ran the latest combo update for OX X Lion. After it restart the mac no longer boots. What gives? What kind of update hoses my machine? Is there a fix? How do I roll back the update?
This is very fustrating. Please produce better software.
Thanks,
Carlos

go ahead and ddo a force quit - hold the power button for about 10 seconds. Then release it and press as normal to restart. you didnt mention seeing any installing screens so the file was downloaded but the installation didn't start so probably when you restart the installation will commence. If it doesn't, open the App Store program again and switch to the updates tab. You'll either see the restart button (which hopefully will work this time) or have to download it again.

• Macbook Pro Retina 13" wont boot after update. (28.01.2014)

Ok.
I got a notification that i have an update avalible, and i install it. It installs just fine and the Mac turns off.
When I boot, the apple logo shows, and a progress bare appears, and seems to complete the update.
But when the progressbar hits 100% it just turns of again. When i turn it on again, same thing happens.
Its only 1 week old, and nothing else has been bad with it.

You have 14 days from date of purchase to return the machine and exchange it for another. Unless you want to jump through some hoops to try to 'fix' what's wrong with your unit?
Try booting into your Recovery partition (hold down the command and R keys whilst booting) and use Disk Utility to verify and, if needed, repair your hard drive. I don't know that this will help - you may be stuck in some sort of infinite loop - but it's worth a try.

• IMac wont boot after update had an error.

My iMac freezes when trying to start up after an error occured when trying to do it's automatic apple software update. Stays on a white screen with time cirlce going round and another circle with a diagonal line thru it. Said it would re-download updates when it had booted back up. but now it will not boot. Is there anything I can do or is it serious?

Start your Mac with the original DVD that came with the computer and run disk utility on your hard drive to repair it. Also repair your permission then restart your iMac normally.

• Wont boot after update

Actually, I think i found the problem... nevermind
I transcribed like 60 lines of text from my failed boot and in the middle i realized it said command not found for mountpoint, did some research for that and found a post regarding updating with the -f switch, which i did, up and running now, ill edit this post if i run into the problem even without the switch...

• Imac wont boot after update. twice!

I tried to install an update the other night and it finished. I restarted my computer and it ran fine for about 20 minutes. It slowly started to run worse and worse. Finally i restarted and this time the gray apple screen came up with a loading bar. It loaded and then the loading wheel came up and never left. I restarted and it would go to the apple screen with the loading wheel and would not make it past. Today i took it to the apple store and they tried a few things that failed. We ended up re-imaging my computer. I get home tonight it runs fine i try to update and once again the computer crashes on me. Any help?

I would hate for you to have to make another trip to the Apple Store, but if they "reimaged" your iMac, which I assume to mean reinstalled Snow Leopard, then I would probably suggest taking it back to them and have them do whatever they did again and this time followup with doing the update themselves for you in the store. That way they can see the problem firsthand if it recurs or perhaps correct anything you may be doing wrong, not to suggest that it is your fault however.

• After update last night my firefox will not open did restore it still does not work?

not an extension the update from last night

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
You can try to reset the preferences if that didn't work.
See also:
*https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+crashes
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

• 3rd generation wont boot after update

We just did an OS update and now all we have is this screen showing the itunes logo and the usb cable. I plug it in and itunes said it does not reconginize the ipod and says its in recovery mode.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

• FireFox garbled after update last night.

Saw .33 was pushed out of testing, ran the upgrade, this morning I tried to open firefox (firefox-pgo-beta from the AUR). It was completely garbled, so I rebuilt it. Still garbled. So I removed it and installed the binary firefox release from Extra. Still garbled.
Obvious things like starting in safe mode, deleting ~/.mozilla, etc. have all failed. I'm open to suggestions, but the first person to suggest I switch to Chrome gets a kitten thrown at them.
Edit: Oh, and as you can probably see, underneath it all FireFox *is* running. If I try hard enough to make out where stuff is, I can still browse the web, but it's otherwise unusable. Other GTK applications seem to be working fine.

namely the one about AccelDFS and the one about ClockGating. whatever that means, it leads to some quite dramatic improvements, performance-wise, even when using EXA. Nevertheless, still feels slightly less snappy than with XAA but is now useable AND firefox works.
Probably AccelDFS then. ClockGating is for power saving (I doubt its even working though, I underclocked the card anyway). Manpage says its some KMS related speed improvement stuff.
I dont have the time to test XAA right now, but I didnt experience any errors despite firefox. Video, other windows and Wesnoth menu screen worked snappy as expected.

• I updated last night and now my ipod touch is stuck in recovery mode and I don't want to do a factory restore!

How do I get out of recovery mode, that my ipod touch suddenly went into, after updating last night? It does not recognize my ipod anymore and I don't want to restore it back to factory conditions. I have tons of things on the ipod and don't want to lose them! Is there any other way to get out of this 'recovery mode'??

No. You have to restore. To allow the restore try the following:
- A reset.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Manually placing the iPod in Recovery Mode
- Placing the iPod in DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If you can't turn the iPod off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

• Music not playing after IDT update last night (HP automated update) How can I roll the patch back?

I was notified of an HP update last night. After the update completed, Itunes/MS media player/You-Tube....applications are unable to play. Checked Installed programs and the only update listed was one for IDT drivers. How can I roll back to the previous version?
This question was solved.

I had the same issue, after reading several other posts with the same issue, I restored to before Oct 29th. Now my sound works just fine and my games that were also going hinky started to work as well.
It would be nice if HP fixed this issue before sending up another update. It is very annoying to have undo what they did so my computer works correctly.
