Wont Boot, but has start up sound

Imac G5, I push the power button, I hear the start up sound then I hear the end of the start up sound every 2 seconds or so...like it is stuck in a loop. Tried pram, safe mode, I even took out the hard drive, Still the same. Any Ideas?

I tied cd, power button works perfect, It does the Start up chime on the gray screen, then it sounds like it plays the very end of the start up chime every 2 - 3 seconds.. so it doesnt get through the post. so any keyboard short cuts are unavailable.

  • IMac wont boot and has yellow squares at launch!!!

Ok, so Friday as I come home from buying Snow Leopard all excited because I also bought an DVI to HDMI cable to hook my 24 inch 3.06 10.5.8 iMac up to my TV. So as my laptop is upgrading to snow leopard I decide to hook up the TV. I plug the cables in and all is good. I went out and downloaded an app called TV Row.
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/30081
It takes front row and puts it on an external monitor. Perfect, they have a brand new update out for snow leopard (which the iMac doesn't have yet) so i think its all good. But when I restart the computer it wont boot and I get a crazy boot screen with light yellow squares everywhere. It gets to the grey apple logo and the gear spins for about a minute and then locks up. I noticed that it was extremely hot!! I went and got a fan and put on the back of it but if i leave it running for about 15 minutes it will burn my hand. I have network access to it so im completely backed up and and down to start from scratch on it. Any ideas. Ill link a picture of what the yellow squares look like.

    Please Help!!!

If you put the Mac OS X Install DVD in the drive and restart your computer while holding down the Option key, and then click on the DVD when it appears on the screen, are you able to boot into the Installer? If so, can you try reinstalling Mac OS X (using the Archive and Install option) or perhaps restoring from a Time Machine backup?
If you're not even able to boot from the DVD, I'd suggest calling in an appointment and taking it to Apple right away before any significant damage is caused to the hardware.

  • Wont boot but fan runs

Laptop is a Satellite L655-S5076.  My daughter turned her laptop on, the fan starts running slow then speeds up as if to boot but it just stays running fast.  The LED for the power is lit but not the led for the harddrive.  I powered it down holding the power button.  I listened and watched when I powered up and noticed the led for the harddrive blinks on then off quick.  You can here the HDD start to spin but stops just as quick as the led light.  I thought the HDD was bad so I ordered another Toshiba exact part and it does the same thing.  A different sight mentioned about the CMOS battery so I pulled and checked it.  The battery read 3V so it was good. I reseated every hook-up and card that was removeable. It does the same thing with battery or wall power. The disc drive opens so I tried putting my Windows 7 disc in and it did nothing.  Is it the motherboard and if so is it cheaper to buy another Laptop?  This one was only $542 on sale Dec 2010.

Tried reseating the cards but it still does the exact same thing.  Fan initially comes on at low speed the switches to high speed but no response.  No Toshiba logo or anything.  Good news though.  My wife thought we had got a warranty plan when we bought it so I looked through all my papers and sure enough we had a 3 year warranty plan we paid extra for during the purchase.  It is good until Dec 2013.  I called and they are going to send it to a company that fixes PC's called Teleplan.  If it can be fixed at a reasonable cost, they will repair it and ship it back.  If it cost more than the laptop is worth they will reimburse the full purchase price including tax for the lap top.  This is the first warranty I have used before it expired.  So, Thanks for your help with ideas on fixing the laptop.

  • Recovery disc from HP boot, but dont start revovery manager

    Hi,
I've bought recovery disc from HP for my HP pavillon dv62124el.
When the notebook boot with recovery disc it starts loading windows and then appeared a grey background, the mouse pointer, but nothing else. Recovery manager does not start.
    Can you help me?
    Tnx a lot!

    Hi,
See if you can get it to run as follows.
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Insert the 1st Recovery Disc.  Select Boot options ( usually f9 ).  Use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter.  You may also get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue'.

  • Terminal wont boot up on start up

right before the macbook starts up i try to open terminal and it doesnt boot up at all the macbook instead starts up like normal. im basically trying to restore the password for this macbook since i bought it off of someone on craigslist and i was never informed of the password and i never got an answer from the seller afterwards. any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

what happens if you boot and hold option (⌥) ?
usually, that'll bring up the [_*Boot Picker*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1310]. now insert the install disc, wait for it to show up in the boot picker window, and select it. your Mac should now boot from the install disc.

    Hello there, HockeyMomClearLake.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some troubleshooting steps for your issue:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368
    Particularly:
Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Mac wont Boot but BootCamp still works

upon restarting from windows to mac, my mac won't boot up to the login screen (it showed the Apple Logo stuck with a blue screen). I was told to reinstall my os which i did.
I restored my mac using back up (time machine). Which took me 7 hours. And after the restoration was completed, I was prompted to restart my computer. However, upon restart, i was welcomed by a big power button asking me to restart my computer again. I restarted my laptop and still am being asked to restart it again.
My windows works perfectly, however i cannot boot into mac.
    Please help!!!

Startup to your Snow install DVD and try repairing disk. You also might try following the [steps here including resetting your SMC if necessary|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US].

  • Macbook without start up sound

    Good morning everyone.
I´ll tell you a little about my problem. I have a macbook 13" mid 2010 mod A1342. Last week, after cleaning with a cleaning foam for PC´s, I think i used so much foam into the keyboard, because i started up and wont start, i let pass time and tried to start up, it started but some keys was in dead short, and the laptop turns off, i cleaned again with fairly isopropyl alcohol in the entire surface and the back of the keyboard, i wait for it to dry for 2 days and the in tried again, the mac start and works fine without pushing any key, but some key was making dead short, i was using my iphone as a wireless keyboard the trackpad works fine.
Consulting with an apple tech center they pdiagnosed the keyboard probably was in dead short and but i have to left them to a entire diagnose.
I buy the piece(upper case) and i replaced by my self (i´m a desktop support techinician for mac and windows), the macbook works fine again with all the keys including mutimedia keys. but the start up sound was gone, now the sound is very low, the speakers works fine i probe it whit de audio midi config. app, i disconnect the speaker off the board, the spearkers of the keyboard works fine but with a very low sound, when i put a headphone or an external speakers the soud works very fine and with a hig volume.
Due to the constant reebots without turn off properly, the volume(image) of the mac was corrupt, i´ve tried to repair it with the Disc Utility app but the volume was very damaged, i tried to reinstall preserving my files but there´s no oprtion for that , the only option was a clean installation. i think a clean installation fix the trouble, but the sound was the same, after installing all the updates to this day, the result was the same. In the information menu displays onboard sound, in the prefs pane the output have onboard sound to play sounds, i configured into the audio and midi app the stereo option, bunt the sound is still low.
I don´t think the problem was the logic, beacuse it plays sound into headphones and the internal speaker and the keybooard speaker, the problem is only the startup sound gone and the level of the sound is very low (sound like a cell phone). i tried to reset the PRAM, in the faqs apple say that i have to hear 2 startups sounds and the i have to realease the pushed keys, but in my case there´s no sound, the laptop restart as they say, but without sound, i´m not sure if the PRAM was restored or not, i push the keys (cmd+op+p+r) turn the MB it try to start the a little bit reboot by it self, tyr to start, again reboot by it self, but without sound, if i keep pushing the keys the procees won´t stop, if i release the keys the macbook start fine(without sound), but i not sure if the PRAM was restored.
I hope anyone can help me.

i also got this kind of problem recently. i was connected to a speaker n the start up sound just didnt come out till i plugged out the speaker jack. this happen after i finished reinstalling my mac os x (snow leopard) including the updates. the condition worsen by having a delay when i started up my mbp for the 3rd or 4th times. the screen just black n i got a delay for 3 to 4 seconds till finally i heard the start up sound back n see the apple logo n the loading gear came out. i later restarted the mbp again to see whether the same problem occurs bt somehow it didnt. weird things happen to my mbp these days.. what should i do? any suggestion? :O

  • Toshiba A105 wont boot, blinking lights.

My friends toshiba A105 wont boot, it has no display, fans dont even spin up, power button does nothing. All it does is the battery and AC lights blink green every couple seconds when it's plugged into AC. tried it with the battery out too. Any idea whats wrong, is this some kind of error code? I can take it apart if I have to. I did once before because the fan stopped working and had to be replaced.

Possibly an error code. Do they blink any particular pattern? (usually four sets, ie 2-1-3-1 where each number is the number of blinks between the long pause).
WIth out knowing much more I am going to hazard a guess and say maybe power system error. The first thing I would check is the voltage coming out of your power adapter.

My Macbook Pro will not boot up. I can hear the sound that it has started and then it goes into an infinite loop.

What model MBP and which version of OS X? Sounds as if the hard drive may have failed. If you have an installation disc, try booting with it. If your machine came with Lion or Mountain Lion, try booting to the Recovery partition - Command and R keys held down while booting.

    Hi..
Try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
If that doesn't help, try Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters
When you post, please tell us which Mac OS X you have installed. Thanks

Try DFU Mode Restore. Open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone to computer. Hold both Home and Power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release Power button, keep holding Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Usually about 20 seconds time. Restore iPhone Firmware.
