Wont boot to any device

Hi there,
I purchased the above mentioned system board to build a system.
Everything is built and ready to go.
As I try to boot from anything the system hangs. All it does is detects the hard drive, the cd rom and the cd rw on the boot screen where it counts the memory and prompts me with the options to enter setup, boot menu and network boot. This is followed by a single beep from the system, and hangs.
I can enter SETUP no problem, it is after that when it fails.
I have changed the memory, but the same error still occurs.
Please help as soon as possible.
Kind Regards,
Werner Broedrich

Hi Dude
What hardware do you have?
What are you powering the system with? if you have a stiker on your power supply what are the voltages on the 3.3v and 5v rails
Cheers

  • Cannot Boot from Any Device... ThinkPad Edge e250.

    Hey Guys
I Have a major issue i can't boot from any device. I bought a bigger hardrive and the hard drive works fine (works in my desktop) I have a couple of different windows installation and operating systems all bought from Microsoft and they work fine on my other computers. Ive tried booting to one of these CD's and even copied it to a USB and i cant boot to any one of them i have no idea what else i can do ? Is there anyone that can help me ?

What other devices have you tried to boot from?  Is your HDD functional with an OS installed on it?
The laptop is defaulting to PXE (network) boot - either because it doesn't find another bootable device, or because PXE has been set first in the boot order.  (or something is badly broken...)
Hit F12 during boot and see if you can boot from HDD or a CD/DVD.  Check BIOS for the boot order.

  • Satellite A300 won't boot from any device

I've got an A300 that won't seem to boot from any device.
When I start it I see the splash screen and can enter the BIOS or Boot select.
I've tried setting boot priority to HDD & CD, and also chosen to boot from both with the Product Recovery CD in the drive.
However as soon as it gets past the splash screen I am just presented with a plain black screen.
I hear a bit of CD activity and the light flashes a couple of times but then nothing.
Normally I would expect a prompt to press a key to boot from CD.
I have tried pressing the key anyway but this just seems to result in a default beep.
Could it be the graphics card on the system board?

    Hi
    > Could it be the graphics card on the system board?
I think this is no matter if the issue would be related to mobo or GPU in both cases the motherboard needs to be replaced. But if you area able to access the BIOS then the mobo could be ok.
But generally speaking it sounds like serious hardware problem and I think its time for an notebook technician.
Anyway, did you try to boot from different CDs? I mean Linux Live CD or Windows PartBE?
Please check this both disks can be downloaded for free

  • Operating system corrupted, wont boot. Any way to get admin rights in cmd prompt?

My operating system has gotten totally corrupted and no longer boots. I get a recovery screen that tells me my registry is corrupted. File: \Windows\system32\config\system, Error code 0xc000014c. I have no recovery media (my computer, a refurb, did not com with any) I want to wipe the hard drive totally clean and do a fresh clean install. I can get to the command prompt through the system recovery by hitting esc at boot up but it wont allow me to reformat the hard drive because of write protections. I tried turning off the write protections at the cmd prompt level but it fails because I cant access it with admin rights. The only way I have found to turn on admin rights for the cmd prompt in online searches is to do it from inside the win8 operating system. Obviously I cannot do that as the OS is too corrupted to be run. Is there any command I can use at the dos prompt that will turn on admin rights? Or better yet just some way to force a total reformat?
    Thanks!

Are you following this? No need for command prompt. Just choose Recovery Manager.

  • Z87-GD65 wont boot from any drive, please help!

I desperately need your help on this issue. And thanks in advance for any answer!
    I have a brand new Z87-GD65 Mainboard.
When I select my boot device in BIOS all I get is: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"
In BIOS I can find all my hardware (CPU, Drives, HDDs, DVD,... RAM) everything is shown correctly. Nothing missing there, all parts shown by correct values.
I cant boot through my DVD Drive or external USB Drive (on both I have Windows 7 which I want to install on my new system). The Windows DVD is also working properly, I checked it on my old PC.
No matter what Boot priority/device I choose (I think Ive tried them all by now) "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" is what I get after "save & reboot".
My BIOS Version is E7845IMS V1.8.
Any suggestions, what am I missing?
thank you very much for any help!

Ok, thanks for your help, I found the problem!
It was my DVD Rom Drive that could not read the DVD!!!!
What I Still dont understand is that it also didnt boot from a bootable HD through USB.
    thanks for your help!
Glad you got it working....probably the controller got confused from the faulty DVD rom....

  • G3 MiniTower, Won't boot from any devices.

Hello, i recently got a lot of 8 PowerPC Mac. One of these is a PowerMac G3 Minitower but it refuse to boot. i successfully booted it from a System 8.5 floppy but now when i try to boot from the floppy i get a Happy Mac but the floppy is ejected 2 second after. i have almost all the Mac OS CD and i tested all of them on my others mac and they qork great. when i try a Mac OS 8.5 CD (with and without the C Key Down), the cd is ejected 2 second after the happy mac, My Mac OS 9.1 CD, OS X 10.2 CD and my Mac OS 9.2 CD won't boot at all (i get the Floppy with a Question Mark), I Have installed a Core System Software for all Macintosh on a SCSI External Hard Disk with my B&W G3 but i still get the Floppy with a Question Mark (i also pressed CMD-OPT-SHIFT-DELETE for external boot), i have installed a Core Mac OS 8.5 System for All Macintosh on a Internal Hard Disk and i installed it in the G3 but i still get the Floppy with a Question Mark. i don't know what to do. With my Mac OS 8.5 cd, i got 1 time to the Mac OS Logo but right after i got a blinking White box on the top of it.
    What i can do?
    Thank You
    Thomas Brousseau

    >"the Happy Mac Face..."The Happy Mac SE is smiling because it found valid Boot Blocks on a drive, and will now try to boot from that drive. If the CD is no longer in the drive, it is booting from the Hard Drive you installed. Either the Hard Disk Driver or parts of the System installed on that Hard Drive are bad, or the SCSI termination is not right. You should not set the Hard drive to ID=3 (only the low two ADDR jumpers installed) as that is the address used for the "C"-key device, such as a SCSI CD Drive.
You can sometimes bypass the default drive by holding down Command Option Shift Delete at startup. But it makes more sense for debugging to just disconnect the power connector to the Hard Drive until you can boot from a CD.
If you have a good battery, and press the tiny CUDA Reset button, the parameters should be set to values that will allow it to boot from a CD. They will also be set to defaults when you hold down 4 keys: Command Option P R for 4 chimes at startup.

    Hej Lenovo...
I got a lenovo T60 and cannot use it... when i turn it on and everything is goes, it checks something and then writes:

How can I fix that by my self?

  • Imac wont boot of external devices

    Hi,
This is a very strange problem.
I want to reinstall my windows partition and install windows again for bootcamp but cannot do so because the computer does not think that the bootable device is there, it does not like windows disks but happily accepts mac os x disks to boot from.
I am using A external dvd rom to boot the windows disk from and it does not come up when you boot up the computer and you hit the alt key when it boots, i have also tried to install windows from a external hdd that does not come up either in the boot menu ( i know it is bootable because i booted it from a PC)
Another thing I have tried is installing rEFIt and that does not pick it up.
The OS once booted into leopard finds the drive fine.
I have reset the DRAM thing and no luck.
I am seriously at my wits end with this.
Can some one help with this, it would be very much appreciated.

Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & Windows, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.
    The Forums are at the bottom of the main Apple Discussions page under Windows Compatible Technology. Here is a link;

  • MacPro wont boot from any disk other than the main HD

    Hi all,
I want to startup my MacPro from a different drive other than the main (original) Macintosh HD, so I can do maintenance and for emergencies.
However, I cannot startup from a DVD. Not DiskWarrior, or even the retail Snow Leopard disk.
I attempted to install the OS on another internal drive, but the intallation seemed to fail (the disk I tried to install onto was Mac OS Extended, Case-sensitive, Journaled, but there were no complaints from the installer.)
So even though my computer runs OK, and I can continue doing work etc, I am unable to do the maintenance that I believe it needs.
    I have tried to:
    • Run the updated DiskWarrior DVD
    • Run the SL instal DVD
    • Taken all the extra wires/drives out of the back of the computer
    • Attempted to install the OS onto a second internal drive
    I have not:
    • Zapped the PRAM yet.
    • Run the computer in target disk mode and worked on it from my MacBook
    • Run the MacBook in target mode to use its DVD drive.
This problem has come up before on this machine. I can't remember what the problem was, other than I used to run the MacPro on its side. No longer. Not for the last few months.
Anybody come across this before? Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Aaron

You could use CCC to do a trimmed down clone and leave out most of the sub folders. Do a 2nd clone to have a full working copy.
    Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.2
    Cloning as a Backup Strategy
My guess is one of your drives needs to be reinitialized. Only during format will the hidden partition blocks be tested, and of course a healthy set of partitions created, things that cannot be repaired normally - though Lion Recovery partition does have abilty to check the health of partition tables. And about the only reason I'd even buy Lion!
Check partition table health in Lion's Disk Utility
Manage all partitions with Disk Utility in OS X

  • A68HM-E33 wont boot if any card in PCI slot

Put together a system with an A68HM-E33 board. A4-5300, 4Gb Kingston HyperX, 120Gb Intel SSD, Win7 x64.  Got it all running fine. Went to install a PCI (not PCIe) wifi card. System will not post, gives 8 beeps, no BIOS splash screen.
Remove PCI wifi card, system boots normally. Tried a PCI ethernet card, same thing, won't boot.
Why would a card in the PCI slot stop the system from booting?

have you done >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed?

  • Imac 24" 2.8GHz won't boot from any device

Have an Imac Intel Metal unit.  24" with 4GB Ram.  Will not boot from anything.  It chimes loudly, the grey apple appears, the gear spins and then freezes.  Then nothing.  tried booting from several external drives.  Even pulled out the internal Hard Drive.

    Hey MacMyDayTF,
Troubleshooting steps for those symptoms are outlined in the following document. I'd go through the steps within to see if that resolves the issue:

  • My Mac Mini (2009 version) does not let me boot from another device

I can see the other devices fine, it is just when I select any one the system keeps trying to boot and I get nothing. I can stop the retry process and choose my Mac hard drive ok. Of special note is I have recently discovered that my DVD drive does not function (not sure if this is relevant).

As Squiggle wrote, the external drive was definitely bootable.  It was a clean installation of Leopard (retail package) on an empty drive.  I tested it on my own mini before going over.  It did not boot on his mini.  The drive was visible.  It mounted properly.  It was visible, and selectable, in the "Startup Disk" system preference.  The mini went into an endless reboot cycle.  The only way to interrupt the cycle was to hold down the option key and select the internal drive (yes, the external drive was listed at this point as well).
After giving up on that approach we tried TDM, using the retail Leopard DVD in the DVD drive in my PowerBook. Again, the drive was visible, and selectable.  The same reboot cycle occurred, and the same method had to be used to break the cycle.
Yes, I zapped PRAM (not that I expected it to do anything).
The DVD drive in the mini appears to have problems, but will that prevent booting from any device other than the internal drive?
    I'm stumped.

Try holding both home and off buttons for a few seconds until the apple logo appears on screen. See if that solves the issue. Honestly, there may be a myriad of reasons why your phone may be stuck at boot stage. Care to share what you did before it occured? That would help us give you better troubleshooting.

USB drive with install image is showing in Startup Manager on a Mac Pro, but wont boot. Showing circle with cross strip, and shut down automatically. USB device are made and work on two different MacBook Pro, but used on Mac Pro. Any help?

OS X installers have always been fairly specific, hardware-wise. I haven't read anything reflecting that situation with the Recovery HD, so it may be that the Recovery HD created for the MacBook Pro does not have the necessary drivers for the Mac Pro. Obviously, nothing definitive here, but a possibility.
