Wont boot to restore DVD

The iSight models are not user rerpairable except for RAM installations. All other repairs should be done at a repair shop. Apple does not even supply repair manuals (DIY) for the public for the iSight models.
If you installed the HD yourself, its possible it was not installed correctly.

  • G5 iSight Wont Boot Tiger From DVD!!

    Hello All,
I am a Mac amateur and I am having trouble with an iMac G5 iSight.
I am considered the IT man of the family but have little experience with Macs but understand that they don't install/function like pcs.
Here's my problem. My Uncle has this iSight G5 and has hardly ever used it since he bought it so I have took it off him. He has a user and password prompt at the startup(can't remember either). He says he doesn't want anything thats on the machine so I thought I'd do a clean install/erase from inserting the install disc and holding down the 'option' key at startup to boot to the dvd but when I do this, it only shows the Macintosh Disk and no Install Disc icon to start the install. I also heared that pressing the c key at start up will boot to the cd but this does nothing and just boots up OS X as normal of the hard drive. I am doing this with the original backup disks but also tried with a copy of OS X 10.4.2 but that isnt recognised when booting with the option key held. This is driving me mad. My brother has a 'non' iSight G5 and doing the option key reboot with the G5 restore disk you can see the install icon and same applies to the Tiger install DVD.
    Can anyone help?
The grey restore discs are OS X 10.4.2
    AHT v 2.5.3
    Disc v 1.1
    Thanks
    Scaseman
    iMac G5 iSight   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Not only is installing the right files a concern with the Target Disk Mode method, the iSight's installer disk may refuse to install anything at all since in TDM the iSight's drive appears as just another drive attached to the non-iSight model. If the installer is like the one for my rev B model, the only OS install option also installs the bundled iLife apps. Since these apps are otherwise a retail product, the installer may check for a matching model & refuse to run because it will detect a non-iSight one.
    Other things to consider:
    A. The iSight model is not constructed like the two earlier iMac G5's to be user serviceable. The case back does not come off; rather, the front bezel & LCD screen must be removed to access the interior components. Since this was not designed to be done by users, this involves carefully removing a taped in place black film mask, removing hard to reach Torx head screws, & handling the bare LCD screen assembly. This would almost certainly void the warranty & might damage something if done by the inexperienced.
    B. Find out if the iSight model was registered with Apple by the original owner. If so, have it transfered to your name so you can call Applecare with your issues. Also consider the Applecare extended protection plan.

  • MBP 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo - Backlight off when booting to restore DVD

    Hi all!
I have a very interesting issue and I'm not sure what to make of it.
I have a MBP 15" (Core 2 Duo, Aluminim, NOT unibody) that shipped with 10.5.  I am restoring the OS with a 10.5 upgrade DVD (was not able to find my original restore disc for the unit).  Unit boots into the OS properly, all hardware works to spec.  However, when I boot to the DVD, the backlight goes out once the DVD is done loading.  There's no inconsistency, it doesn't "come back on if i wiggle it," nothing of the sort. If I cold boot the laptop and restart, the backlight works without issue.  Any ideas on what's causing this?
    Thanks!

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • Cannot boot OEM Restore DVD

I am trying to restore my PB to its original state. When I boot from the Restore DVD (10.2.3), shows the grey screen with the Apple logo and the wheel bars, then the You-need-to-restart message in several languages comes up. Tried the double-clicking on the Install Mac OS X icon / Restart button and the Hold-down-C while restarting--same result. Removed added RAM--same. Reset PMU--same. Reset PRAM--same. Did the Hardware Test--all OK. But booting from the installed 10.3.9 is flawless. Short of sending it for repair, does anyone have any suggestion? Thanks!

  • MBP 13" (2010 model) will not boot from Restore DVD!

I just upgraded the HDD on my 13" MBP to the 1TB Toshiba MK1059GSM. The MBP is 3 weeks old. Upgrade went fine in terms of the process. However, when I insert the OS restore DVD that came with the machine and restart (using ALT/OPTION) and select to boot from the DVD, the Apple logo appears with the spinner and the system just stays like this. I can hear the DVD spinning but nothing elese ever happens! Any ideas as to what could be wrong? Could it be that this new Toshiba HDD is not compatible and the DVD does not have a driver for it?

+*Could it be that this new Toshiba HDD is not compatible and the DVD does not have a driver for it?*+
SATA drives use a standard interface and no additional drivers are necessary. That's not to say that the drive itself can't be faulty. As has been suggested, try removing the drive and see if you can boot from the DVD. If that works, you can be pretty sure there may be a problem with your new hard drive. Hopefully you kept your original drive so you can always put that back in. Faulty hardware can always be frustrating because you never think that's the problem. Let us know how you make out.

  • G4 AGP wont boot from a DVD

    Hi,
I'm trying to boot my G4 AGP (combo drive) from a OSX install DVD and it wont reconise it. It shows up and checks out ok when i'm booted into Tiger. But when i go to boot off the DVD it wont, it does however boot fine off CD's.
When I hold down the option key during boot it doesnt display the DVD, but if i put a CD in instead it shows up fine.
I have tried another Superdrive and it still did the same thing.
I've tried booting off the DVD on a Macbook Pro and an iBook and it worked fine, so the DVD is bootable.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Hi! Is the disc a retail version or one for another computer such as a Macbook? If it's not retail it's not going to work. Tom

  • Tiger 4.6 won't install - keeps restarting but wont boot from the dvd

    hello,
I purchased a brand new Tiger 4.6 retail directly from apple.com to install on my second computer, which is an imac that meets the system requirements. I am having exactly the same issue - i load the dvd, and the window opens and i double click on the installer. This prompts me to restart by clicking the button in the window, which I did. Then the computer restarts but the installer does not run. When i click on the installer it gives me the same restart window. I have tried holding the C button during reboot, and i have tried changing the boot drive through system preferences as well, but this does not work either.
Can someone PLEASE offer information that will help me to install this OS?
    thanks

I went back to look because I wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy and was clear on what I saw before, and why it was unclear and ambiguous. This is the page with the complete sys requirements(the photos wont display here, but there is a photo of my model of imac, under the "imac" category):

Make sure your hardware can run Mac OS X Version 10.4 Tiger
Mac OS X Version 10.4 requires a Macintosh with:
    * PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
    * Built-in FireWire
    * At least 256MB of physical RAM
    * A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
    * At least 3.0 GB of available space on your hard drive; 4GB of disk space if you install XCode 2 developer tools
    * DVD drive for installation (get CD media for $9.95)
Note: Mac OS X does not support processor upgrade cards. The amount of disk space required depends on your computer and the way you are installing Mac OS X. (this would have been the place to include the text about not supporting the imac 350)

  • Canvio 1tb drive wont boot into restore

I have a drive that i bought just to be the backup for allmy laptops, because rebuilding and reinstalling is a pain. Well after 1.5  years it came time to use the restore. However to do an image restore you have to boot to it. The drive is recognized as bootable and the bootstrap goes, but  after  load BZIMAGE  i get nothing but a blinking cursor. SO my question is 2 fold,:
1 is there a copy of the bootable files for the canvio drive? (i cant seem to find it on the toshiba site
2 can I just boot to something else (cd, or other bootable media) and run the restore that way?
    thanks for helping

I don't know anything about Toshiba's Canvio drives, but I've never heard of booting from an external drive to restore a backup.
Don't they come with NTI Backup Now EZ software? Doesn't the restore begin with boot from a disc (CD or DVD) that you burned?

  • Wont Boot From Install DVD

I need some help - I just brought home a brand new 27" iMac. It boots just fine from the internal HD. I need to do a complete Time Machine restore, as this iMac is a replacement for one that they can't seem to fix. Anyway, I load the Snow Leopard DVD, it pops up the OS X FInder icon, I tell it to go to utilities, and that I want to restore the entire hard drive. It then reboots - sort of. The DVD does some stuff, then the machine sits there with the gray apple logo on it. Been there now for 15 minutes with nothing happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated....
    Jim

The first thing I would suggest:
    - Shut down the iMac with the disc still in the drive
    - Once it is shut down, Press the power button and hold down the C key on the keyboard in order to boot from the optical drive. (Hold until Apple Logo appears)
    - Once disc loads, select a language and click the arrow
    - The installer will prepare
    - Up on the menu bar, click Utilities, then Restore from Backup
    - Follow on-screen instructions
After that you should be good to go! Hope everything works out.

  • Power mac g5 wont boot from install dvd

i have a g5 power mac i had to replace the hard drive when i try to boot from the disc it freezes on the gray screen with the apple im use the retail dvd for the ppc can anyone help

Hello! You may not be waiting long enough if there's been a new drive installed as the OS on the dvd will be looking at the new drive to see if it's been formatted. It may take 10-15 minutes or longer to fully boot from the install disc. Tom

  • A505D-S6958 wont boot from recovery DVD

Went  and downloaded the windows vista recovery/repair disk. Followed all the instructions and nothing happened. I take the DVD out and reboot to the hard drive doesn't work please help!

which one are you trying to use the recovery or the repair disc. they are 2 differant things with 2 differant funtions. one repairs windows files if damaged. the other completely reinstalls windows and toshiba software to your hdd. you said you downloaded it so im that would not be the recovery media. you would need to call toshiba 1(800)457-7777 or order online. you can try to hold zero(above P) during boot and see if the recovery partitions will let you return to factory settings. this will only work if it has the recovery partitions and they are still intacked.

  • Sun v40z wont boot from external DVD/RW drive

Hello folks, I am banging my head on the wall with a Sun v40z that will not boot from an external dvd drive. I want to install Win2k3 Server on it. Any ideas.

The v40z is an x86 platform, and thus has a BIOS controlling the boot order and boot devices. You'll have to attach a VGA display and keyboard, power on the system, then hit F2 or F10 to enter Setup (it should say what magic key it is at startup time, just after the SUN logo splash screen comes up).
Enter the BIOS, and go to the menu for boot devices, making sure you select CD-ROM as a boot device before your regular boot disks or network boot devices. Then Save and Exit, restart the system, and it should see and use the CD for the boot device.
A caveat is that some early revisions of the BIOS's, especially ones on early x86 platforms like the v40z, will not recognize an external device as a boot device. You may have to download the latest BIOS, install it (uses a floppy, IIRC!), set the correct BIOS options again (they get wiped out when the BIOS is reinstalled), and then try the external CD boot again.
If this fails, you would be forced to install and internal CD device. This is not difficult, but is obviously more hassle than an external device.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro Wont Boot from Retail 10.6.3 DVD

Just like the title says.  It wont boot off the retail 10.6 disk I got a couple weeks ago.
I think my EFI partition might have been corrupted...so I want to repartition the HD and reinstall the OS but the computer wont boot from the DVD.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Alexander,
If your MBP shipped with an OS later than 10.6.3, it won't boot from that disc. Use the install disc that shipped with your MBP.
