Wont burn onto DVD!!!NEED HELP

i just spent 20 hours making an imovie, and i finished it all up, but when i put the DVD-R in, it shoots it right back out. Also when I click to burn it says i dont have the supported superdrive. The computer is an IBOOKG4. I went online and checked and it says it has a superdrive(DVD-RW) so i dont see why its not working. Did i get the wrong types of disks (DVD-R) or does anyone else know what is wrong?

Hi Matt,
Of course you can transfer your file to another computer and because yours is a portable it is so much easier. You need to use a proccess called 'Target Disc Mode'. All you do is, get the two computers together and connect them via a double ended firewire cable. Start your computer while holding down the 'T' key and the Firewire logo will appear on the screen of your iBook. Your iBook's HD will appear on the screen of the other computer. Just open the HD icon of your computer and drag the file out onto the desktop of the second computer. Once the file has finished copying to the other computer just eject the HD icon of your computer and turn your iBook off by holding down the Power button for a few seconds.
This will only work on two Macintosh computers running OSX and it is best to export your project to Quicktime before you try to export it to another computer to avoid problems with different versions of iMovie.
Here's the link to the Mac document on how to do it -

  • Burning onto DVD+RW or -RW

Hi Everyone, this has probably been addressed already but I'm having trouble finding the answer I need.
I don't seem to be able to burn onto dvd+rw or -rw's and mac help says that OSX 10.3.9 won't do it, should I upgrade to Tiger or is Toast 7 the only options?
Cheers for any help you can give!

Toast 6 or 7 Titanium will definitely burn the DVDs to which you refer, assuming, of course, that you have a DVD burner that will.
    Good luck.

  • Poor quality (vibration) on video clips when it burns onto DVD

We created 15 mins video on Final Cut Express, saved on Quick Time, and burned onto DVD. Although the video on Quick Time was fine, some of the quality of the video clips on DVD we burned was so poor....It had so much vibration on some of the video clips. We tried on both Best Performance & Best Quality, but they both had poor quality. Do you have any suggestions? Do you think upgrading to I Life 08 will help? Please Help!!!! Thanks!

It had so much vibration on some of the video clips.
Video on a DVD is mpg-2 compressed (which looks at frame to frame differences in compression) and is interlaced.
If you have content with lots of movement - like many hand-held shots - mpg-2 compression and interlacing will act to create lots of 'jumping' or 'vibration'. The only solution is to use a tripod and avoid shaky, hand-held shots.
BTW, for a short clip, 'Best Performance' will give you the best quality you can get.

  • Problem burning DVDs, NEED HELP QUICK

    Hey,
I need help as soon as possible. I am using iMovieHD 5.0.2, along with iDVD 5.0.1. I have made a movie about 8 minutes long and all in all it totals 7.68Gigs, and i've tried burning it to a dvd. I did all the steps it says to, going to Share, sharing it with iDVD, then trying to burn it in iDVD. Yet whenever it asks me to insert a recordable dvd, i do, and the computer fails to recognize it. I am using a DVD-R, 4.7GB discs, 4x. I then realized that the movie i was trying to burn was larger than this disc, which might be the problem. I then created a 200mb movie and tried, but the same problem happened. My G5 is not recognizing the blank dvds, yet when i insert a dvd that was made a while ago from a different source, yet the same type of dvd, it plays fine.
The problem seems to be in recognizing the blank DVD, and im pretty sure that its compatible with this computer, being that it plays when theres already a movie on it.
Can someone please help me quickly, this is for a production company and we're losing out every day that i dont get this done. Thanks a million.

I don't have an answer, but as an initial diagnostic step, try loading a blank DVD while iDVD is not running. First open your System Preferences and select the CD/DVD icon. Make sure the options selected do not say "Ignore". Then load a blank disc. Depending on your preferences, you should get some sort of reaction - either a burn window opens or you get a prompt asking you what to do. If there's no reaction from the Finder, it would indicate that the drive is not recognizing the blank DVD. This would be either a hardware or a media compatibility problem. Only way to tell for sure is to run out and try a different brand of media.

  • Brand new at copying DVDs - need help.

Hope that I am in the right forum. I'm brand new at using DVD copying since I've only had this computer for about a week. I've had problems in copying my home video DVDs on DVD+R discs which were created on a Sony DVD recorder. These are obviously not copy protected. I tried making a copy for a friend but ran into problems, phoned Apple and followed their instructions for copying and burning -R discs but that didn't work for me. On my follow up call, they suggested that the problem may be either the +R disc (rather than -R) or the fact that the discs were not burned on a computer but rather on the recorder. They suggested the use of other software. So I searched the web andI downloaded something called Mac the Ripper and using the dialog box in that program, do have the contents of one disc on my hard drive as far as I know. But I don't know how to copy (burn) onto a blank disc either using this same program or something else. In other words, what are my next step by step instructions to burn what I hope I have on the hard drive onto a blank disc - I still have +R discs left so I'll likely be using them. Thanks for any help.

From all the helpful information posted here, I have found out that copying DVDs is not quite as straightforward as I had hoped it would be using my new computer. I would have to purchase software which isn't supplied on my iMac such as Toast or Popcorn to do the job as far as I have found out from a number of sources. Toast is a bit more costly than I want to spend for just this one task although Popcorn is more reasonable. I am beginning to think that for the few DVDs that I really need to copy for my friend, the easiest route is to use my DVD recorder, transfer the contents of the DVD to the hard drive on my recorder (yes, the recorder does have a 160 GB HD) and then burn a blank DVD from the recorder's hard drive which is what I have done dozens of times in the past. Of course, it takes 2 hours to transfer the video from a DVD (assuming it has 2 hours of video on it) to the hard drive and then only about 4 - 7 minutes to burn the video onto a blank DVD from the HD of the recorder. Using the computer, I had hoped to reduce the time it takes for that first 2 hour step with the recorder. I'm not even sure if Popcorn would significantly reduce the time for transferring the video from the DVD onto the computer. I'll have to evaluate whether or not the cost of something like Popcorn is really worthwhile for me. Thank goodness, copying audio CDs is much more straightforward on the computer. Thanks for all the help.

  • Can my project be burned onto dvd at all?

Hi. I just finished editing a 20 minute video in Adobe Premiere CS5 and would now like to burn this onto dvd using dynamic link. I have tried already but its taking forever to build.
I simply sent my timeline to encore from premiere. Is that what I should be doing?
My project settings for video are: 1920x1080, 25fps, upper, quality 50, and for Audio are: 4800Hz, stereo, 16bit.
My hardware is a pioneer dvd-rw DVRTD11RS. Is this going to be able to burn this disc at all or do I need something else?
Estimated time to encode my project in Media Encoder is 5hrs 33minutes. Is this normal? I know its a very high resolution I am working with, but I would like to maintain the quality. Its important that I do actually.

You may NOT maintain HD quality to go to a DVD... the DVD specification is for SD (Standard Definition) so part of the reason the process is taking so long is that your video is being transcoded from HD down to SD... usually being called down-rezzing (down resolution)
If you want to maintain HD quality, you need a BluRay burner and a BluRay player at your TV
There is a way you may put a SHORT HD video on a DVD, but you would still need a BluRay player at your TV to view the video

  • Idvd wont burn a DVD after Mountain Lion upgrade

After I upgraded to Moutain Lion, IMovie wont finish burning a DVD. It will start to go through the process and then eject the DVD, but it is not finished.
The menu says Cancel, instead of Done. I tried puy same DVD back in burner to see if it will finish the DVD but it does'nt.
Any one run into this issue yet??

Taiyo Yuden - are supposed to be top of quality - Can not get them here in Ultima Thule (Sweden) so I'm lost to Verbatim.
    • On top Menu Row - go to GO then down to Library / Preferences - and You are in the right one.
And now You are in the right Library - Here try to find and move to Desktop/Finder.
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    com.apple.iMovie9.plist
    com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top. (not all are there - but move what You find).
    Now restart iMovie.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
(Hidden files ---->  It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter: chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )

  • IPhone 5 screen wont turn on. (Need help or info, please and thank you.)

So i got an Iphone 5, and i accedently droped it in the sink. i took it out, whipped it off,  i put it in my pocket and left it alone.
the next day the screen was not working, moments later, it(Iphon5) turned off.  tried turnng it back on but it wouldnt work.
so, again i left it. everything still works, its just that the screen wont turn on, i could still play music snapshot stuff,
but my screen wont tun on.
    I NEED HELP.

I don't beleive this is a known problem and you should probably bring your phone to a local Genius Bar (make an appointment here) as this is likely a hardware issue (a problem with your phone realizing that you removed it from your ear).
If you're willing to tinker with it a bit, you can determine if this is a software issue by backing up your iPhone (separately ensure your photos, videos and music is backed up) and then "Restore" your phone. If the restoration solves the problem, you're dealing with a software issue. If the problem still exists, you're almost definitely dealing with a hardware issue.

  • Can I retrieve photos burned onto DVD (I used iDVD)?

I lost my hard drive last week and am in the process of rebuilding my photo gallery. In Decemeber, I burned a DVD with all of my desired photos from 2012 using iDVD. In addition to the videos and slideshows that I included in the main menu, I made sure to burn the actual photos to the DVD as well. Except now, I don't know how to retrieve the photos from the DVD to re-import into iPhoto. Any suggestions?

  • Elements 9 Crashes when burning onto DVD

I've attempted to burn a project with a newly bought Premiere Elements 9 software.  It goes through rendering all three Disc Menus just fine. Then it crashes my entire computer(multiple times) when getting to approx 4-5% burning process.  This morning I've spent 4 hours uninstalling Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9, rebooting, then re-installing everything.  Same thing happened.
I use to run Photoshop 7, and don't recall this happening.
Please help.  My school project is due on Monday, which includes burning it onto a DVD for a grade!
