thats way too vague of a question... best what? quality? size? playback?
best quality then use high bitrate, small size use low bitrate. -
Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, format for exporting video to web.
On the Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 I used the format "H.264" and preset "Apple Ipad 400x224, 16x9, 29.97, 400kbps." That preset isn't available in the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 edition. What would you recommend that would be comparable and good for exporting a one-hour video for use on the web (Vimeo, to be specific)?

Setting audio tone for exporting video (-12 or 0db?)
Hi,
I'm exporting a production as full uncompressed video to create a data DVD which will then be used to strike copies in different formats. I have 2 Q's.
1) I'm prepping bars & tone at the head, & I noticed that the default setting for FCP HD 4.5 is to have audio tones at -12db. I'm from the old school of audio where tone was always set to 0db. I'm guessing that the higher dynamic range of digital audio makes some arguement for the -12, but I want to be sure.
2) Also, its a music video. I'd heard the recommendation to have program audio levels peak at -6db to keep it from having unusually loud audio, but I'm wondering if that recommendation is for narratives & based towards dialog levels? Any issues with a music video having audio levels that peak at or close to 0db?
Thanks a lot.
DuaneDuane this is an example of where old school is completely trumped by new school.
In the analog world 0 dB was the point you wanted to be near at your loudest, and MAYBE peak over very quickly at the very loudest point of your track.
in our digital domain these days, 0dB is now the point of no return. Hit zero and your track is distortedwith no chance of saving it.
pretend that fcp's -12 equals 0 on an analog scale, and then imagine you've got up to -6 for headroom for the loudest things. NEVER go anywhere above -6 and you'll never have a problem. -
Help needed for exporting video under expert settings
I was exporting my 4+ minutes video that I had created under expert settings (Compression type: H.264, Frame rate: 29.95, Key frames: automatic with frame reordering checked, Compressor quality: Best, Encoding: Best(muti-pass) & Data rate: Automatic). After the process was finished, I found out that the video would play normally for the first 25 seconds and then the video will freeze but the audio continues to play as normal. I then tried using the CD-ROM option instead of the expert settings and the video exported was playing fine.
I was using iMovie 5.0.2 and I have Quicktime 7.1.3 and iTunes 7.0.1
Help is much appreciated!

What is the data rate of the file? If it is too high your machine is probably too under powered to play it. -
What's the best compression setting for exporting video to DVD?
My QT self contained file from FCP is 13 GB (1:02 min long) when I use DV NTSC while exporting. When iDVD finished encoding it, it went down to 3.4 GB (that includes video files in my iDVD menus).
*Since the DVD media is 4.7 GB can I make better quality DVD by lessening compression while exporting from FCP?*
I don't think there is a way to tweak compression in iDVD. And my second question:
*Is "self contained" file better quality than just a reference file?*
*I would like to make the best possible quality DVD and am looking for some tips on what settings would help me achieve it.*Hi Joby,
Compressor is what you need.
Import your file, choose DVD best quality 90 minutes from the settings tab (lower left window in Compressor). This will allow your movie to be converted as MPEG 2 and ac3 dolby stereo (best compression for DVD audio).
The inspector window (lower right window) will allow you to decide/arrange settings as you like.
If you are not sure about best bit rate choice use the [Bit Budget|http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/bitbudget.html]
As you can see the inspector window offers a range of customizable settings if you are not familiar with those the manual (main menu>help>user manual) will answer all your questions. Simply type a word or definition in the search area and most likely the manual will provide the info you seek.
Self contained means that you create a file with exact copies from your original frames and edit on the timeline, a self-contained file becomes independent from your timeline. A reference movie as the definition says totally refers to your FCP project and wouldn't work on a different machine without referenced media files.
There is no difference in quality between the two QTmovie options.
Hope that helps
G.

I've imported a track from the music library onto the timeline. There does not appear to be any sound problems on the track. However on the exported movie DVD there is a 'clicking' sound heard with the normal audio.
I can't see any way of rendering the audio seperately in FCPx. Is it beacise of a problem importing .mp3? files. How do I resolve this, any help most appreciated.

APE 10: How to select a frame be the thumbnail for the exported video file?
I have Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and using Windows 7. I create a title and place it as the first clip in the Sceneline. When I export the video and look at the file using Windows Explorer folder view, the thumbnail shown is a frame from another clip and not the clip containing the title. How can I get the title to be used as the thumbnail for exported video files?
Hi Bill, thanks for your thoughts on this.
The file created is indeed the one intended and in the correct folder. When I double-click on the file the video is played and the first thing I see is the title. So the video created has what I expect. Go figure.
I'm starting to think that there might be a Windows setting that determines how Windows Explorer picks the frame to be used as the thumbnail for video files. I have not found any reference to it so far.
Here is some new info...
If I replace the first clip that has the title with another clip, then the thumbnail is created from that first clip. As soon as I add the title as the first clip, then the thumbnail is created from the second clip.
OK ---- I just found information that states that the thumbnails are created by Windows and placed in a file that act as a cache for the thumbnails. This prevents Windows Explorer from generating the thumbnails each time the folder is viewed. In my computer (64-bit Win 7), the thumnail cache files are stored in folder "C:\Users\Ramon\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer". They have an extension of ".db". I found the information at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_thumbnail_cache -
I'm having problem with exporting video from premiere pro cc 2014
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 and I'm having problem with exporting video.
When I click Export and media, the window for exporting appears and it starts exporting video.
But after a few minutes, it looks like it has completed exporting video and says there's a bug in exporting.
It literally says it has a problem with compiling, but I don't know what the real problem is.
I tried many things like restarting computer and Premire Pro but it's no use.
But it works when I use Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 for exporting video.
If anyone knows any possibilities about why this problem happens, please let me know.I'm having a similar issue. When I go to export my project, I add it to the render queue, set it up with the h.264 settings that I've used with countless past versions of the program, and then hit render. Randomly, at some point in the process, the render just stops and the ETA just keeps climbing. I actually had to save an XMF file of the CC 2014 project and bring it into the previous CC version of Premiere just to finish it. Even a clean re-install of CC 2014 doesn't work.

Color on exported video on Adobe Premiere Pro Is a bit off from the original source video
I have both Cyberlink powerdirector 10.0 and Adobe Premiere Pro C6
I noticed that adobe premere cs6. when exporting the video.. colors are a little off.. never matching the same tones as the original
source
i took a screenshot so you can see what i mean.. Notice Adobe is a a little mor orange. is there a way to fix this? Cyberlink powedirector always matches the source color when you export it. except Adobe Premiere Pro CS 6
i have windows 7 64 bit (Nvidia GeForce GTX 670MThanks for answering. I ddi notice different media players show colors different. But on the screenshot i just showed you.. all 3 are from the same media player.
For some reason everytime i export a video from Adobe premiere pro the color is never the same as the source on media player. I tried it on 4 different videos. Other software programs like cyberlink power director export the video with no color change.
1)The original source from the picture is a mpeg-4 (avc)
2)i always use wmv codec to encode all videos. So the shot from Premiere Pro was using WMV codec. and the other shot (cyberlink powerdirector) was also wmv to encde.
3) I even tried to see if maybe i used a different video format to encode it would fix the slight color change. like h264 and mov.. but nope still same issue
4) I did what you told me to show the source and exported video on Adobe Premiere and really weird. the exporterd video from Adobe Premiere now shows the exact color as the source.. but the exported video from Cyberlinkpowerdirector shows the color a bit different.

How do I adjust settings to Flash CC for exporting video? A Quicktime video that was once about 50MB from Flash CS6 is now 7GB with Flash CC.
Thank you. However, I see no setting options in Flash Pro CC prior to
creating the video. It's now an odd two-step process to create a Quicktime
video with the settings and size I want via Encoder.

Export video, only few options
For exported video, theire is only DPX, H.264 and original version as option.
And we are not able to choose export size.
I would like to be able to choose other codecs installed in my machine already...keysound
In version 7, you had 2 export routes, File Menu/Export/Movie and Share/ with choices for Disc, Online, Personal Computer, Mobile Phones and Players, and Tape.
In version 11, you do not have the File Menu/Export/Movie route, but you do have Publish+Share (the new generation) Share with a vast selection of export choices. I will not go over them, but for now will address only two of your points in your post.
1. As for QuickTime. Make sure that you have the latest version of QuickTime. QuickTime installation on the computer with Premiere Elements is required to see the QuickTime choices. Assuming that you have done that, then set an appropriate choice for Presets in the export dialog and then go under the Advanced Button/Video Tab, Audio Tab, and, if applicable other of the preset to take control of your video and audio settings.
2. SG has already suggested to you a choice for a file to be uploaded to YouTube at the YouTube web site that should give you best results.
3. But, as an example, here is how you get your old "Windows Media 720p25" export from Premiere Elements 11 Windows.
Publish+Share
Computer
Windows Media
Presets = 720 x 576 16x9 25
then under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of that preset, set as follows
You have full control over those settings. The bottom which is not visible in the screenshot shows "Average Video Bitrate = 1500 kbps (aka Kbps and representing kilobits per second).
Please review.
Thanks.

Any way to export videos and preserve the original creation date?
I recently shot video using an NEX-5N and AVCHD as the format. Since Aperture cannot playback this format, I converted the videos using Handbrake to mp4 (H.264), and then used A Better Finder to change the creation date of the converted file back to the same date as the original file.
Importing this converted file into Aperture works great, and the imported file shows the correct metadata of the original creation date, not the date of the conversion.
But when exporting this file from Aperture, it seems like Aperture does not embed the date as metadata, and thus the only date associated with the exported video is the file-system date attached to the file, which will of course be the date of the export.
I assume this problem applies to ANY video imported into Aperture, not just those that have been converted.
Does anyone have a method for exporting video and having the original creation date remain? This is obviously a problem when exporting videos one-by-one, but would be a bigger problem if I ever wanted to export my entire video library from Aperture into another program...all the video files would have the same date!
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!EXIF data and video files is even more of a gray area then EXIF data and stills.
I don't do much video in Aperture so I'll take your word for it that the data isn;t imbedded into the file. In that case the best I can see is to create a custom export preset and include the Image Date in the filename. Not great but you at least have the data and you might be able to have a script use the date from the filename and somehow add it back into the file. -
What are the best sequence settings in FCP 5 for exporting screen capture video footage?
I capture video footage of websites in order to showcase in a demo reel. Using Snapz Pro, the compression type I have found to have the best quality is H264. When I take this footage into FCP (v5.1.4), I choose DV NTSC 48khz for the sequence setting. If I then select H264 for the sequence compression type, when I go to render I get a 'Codec error.'
The only way I am able to render properly is by choosing DV NTSC 48khz for the sequence setting and DV/DVCPRO-NTSC as my sequence compression type. The problem with this though is I get a perfect picture in the Viewer, but the picture quality in the Canvas (and the subsequent exported video) is slightly blurred.
I've been trying to find a solution to this problem off and on for years. I've finally decided now to get to the bottom of the issue. If you can solve this one you are my hero!
TedThanks for the suggestions. I've tried using DVCPRO HD in the past, but the picture quality of the captured screen footage turns out blurry. The only codecs I've found that provide a perfectly clear image are H264, Animation and Uncompressed 8-bit. The problem with the latter two is that video files lasting only a few seconds measure in the 100s of MBs. Working with files that large would slow my editing and rendering down to a non-workable length.
I just don't understand why I can't edit H264 video if my sequence codec is set to H264. The 'Codec error' I get is baffling.
