Wont create a shortcut on desktop.

After running my app the second time, it does NOT ask me if I want to create a shortcut, but I want it to. How do I make it do this? I tried adding <offline-allowed/> to the information block, but to no avail.
please help.

I'm Windows with 1.4.0_01 (Webstart 1.0.1)
I left a Webstart icon on the desktop, and clicking on that gets me the Manager. The program is C:\Program Files\Java Web Start\javaws.exe that starts. You might find it and start it directly and see what you get.
I'm guessing that you're starting an application, not the manager.

    You can drag the favicon on the left end of the location bar onto the desktop to create a shortcut.
    You can also use an extension.

  • Creating a shortcut of an application on the desktop

    Hi,
    I've just purchased an ibook G4 running on Mac OS X (10.4.8) from apple and wanted to know how can I create application shortcuts on my desktop? Since I'm familar with Windows and Unix, I'm finding a mac a bit of a mission!
    Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance!
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to discussions apple freak,
    You can do what Gnarlodious suggested, and it will work perfectly fine, But you should try out the dock. At default it is located at bottom of the screen (though it can be moved to either side), you can put applications there, folders, and basically anything that it will let you drag onto it. You do not need to create a short cut, or alias (basically the same thing). To place something on your dock simply drag it's icon, and let it drop on the dock. You can also set the dock to hide when your mouse is not over it, and to magnify when you mouse is over it. This is also where documents that are minimized are stored until you open them again. You may already know all (or some) of this, but if you haven't yet tried working with the dock I suggest you try it.

  • Creating a Shortcut on a Mac Desktop

    Hi everyone. I'm sure this has a very simple answer, but me being a newbie to using a
    Mac computer, I need some help.  I've set up a server for my home network with a
    Static IP of 192.168.2.10 .
    It was simple to create shortcuts for my computer and my sister's, because I've used
    Microsoft since it was DOS, and my sister's is Windows XP.  I simply created a shortcut
    and then typed in the network address, it being "\\192.168.2.10\Music" in Windows.
    But my mom has a Mac, and I need to create an alias (I think it's called) that would lead
    to the server from it.  I've searched all through the internet, and all I can find is something
    to the effect of this:
    1. Launch your Finder and look for the program that you want to create the alias for.
    2. Highlight this file and select "Make Alias".
    3. Drag the Alias to the desktop.
    My problem is that there is not an icon displayed that links to the server.
    Is there some kind of Properties box where I can manually enter the network path?

    Hi,
    First off, putting stuff (links/aliases, files, folders) on a Mac Desktop is not good practice, because it leads to some extra work on the CPU, since the Desktop is a folder like others, OS X will index all its content every time your Mom starts her Mac.
    This said, the best way to make an alias easy to use is to place it in the Dock via drag-n-drop, not on the Desktop. If placed in the Dock, your alias will always be within reach. All you have to do is locate the server folder you want to share in the Finder, and drag it to rightmost part of the Dock, where there are already some folders such as Applications, Documents, Downloads, etc...
    Alternately, you can also create a new Shared item in the left pane of your main Finder window. In the Finder preferences, you can also choose to show all connected servers on the Desktop, which can come in handy too.
    You may have to restart the Finder (or reboot the Mac, or just log out and back in) for the latter to take effect.
    Oh, I almost forgot: you can also copy and paste the folder in question in the Desktop folder (left pane in the Finder main window), and it'll appear on the Desktop itself.

    -
    Make absolutely certain that FireFox is designated as your default browser.
    Do this: Tools / Options / Advanced / Check Now / correct the setting
    OR right click on any shortcut icon / Open With / Choose Default Program / select desired Browser / check Always... box / OK

  • Creating web shortcuts for Chromium to the desktop

    Hello, I am having some trouble with chrome. I am running arch obviously with xfce4 as my GUI. I have chrome installed and have my chrome icon on my desktop. If i double click it, it works just as expected. What I am now trying to do, is to create shortcuts for chrome to specific websites. For example I want an icon on my desktop I can click that will send me to youtube through chrome, without actually having to type it into my browser. Essentially it is a shortcut, plane and simple. Chrome has it's own way of creating shortcuts here ->
    http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/an … swer=95710
    When I do this method I end up creating a shortcut that when double clicked, causes a "Launch Error, Failed to run". How can I fix the shortcuts? I have messed around and got Geany to open up some background code that can be changed, but I am shooting in the dark with doing that. Thanks

    "%U" indicates that chromium may be passed a list of URLs on its command line.

    There's another thread In need of opinion - desktop shortcut, security warning. which I've tried the suggestions, but I cannot get a permanent install with a shortcut on either Windows or Linux. The app is launched OK, it just does not persist. Using jcontrol on Linux, I can choose an option to create a desktop shotcut, and it does create a shortcut, but as soon as you launch the app, the shortcut is deleted.
    Can anyone help ?

    I believe this is caused by the <shortcut/> element not being in the correct location in the JNLP file.  It should be in the <information/> element.  I ran into this using the ant tasks to generate a JNLP file, I'm not sure how Netbeans is creating the file.  I reported this bug here: https://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/RT-27106.  There are a couple of solutions mentioned in that Jira.

  • Create different network share shortcut in desktop for different security groups using GPO

    Hi,
     I have an OU named TECH that contains two different security groups ENG and PRESS.
    When users in ENG group logs in desktop should show a network share \\server1\eng-share and
    when users in PRESS group logs in desktop should show a network share \\server1\press-share.
    How to create a GPO for this ?
    regards, Faisal

    You could use group policy preferences shortcuts. You would create a shortcut to each of these shares and then use Item Level Targeting. The target would point to the security group needed.

  • How can I create a shortcut to launch an external application?

    Hello, I'm developing app in Swing where I want to create a shortcut for any external application, I'm able to get the .exe path, and an icon path (in .png format), is there a way to create a "shortcut" or button and assign the icon and the .exe path to run it? This is what I have to get the .exe path:
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("\"" + jTextField2.getText() + "\"");
    Where jTextField takes the value from a JFileChooser value, doing the same for the icon, then I could do this for a button to assign the icon:
    ImageIcon img1 = new ImageIcon("C:\\image.png");
    jButton7.setSize(64, 64);
    jButton7.setIcon(img1);
    But I havent' found any way to make the button (or any kind of shortcut) to execute the program, I could go and create a method to do it on click or ActionPerformed, but the idea is to do all this when I finish the create the shortcut, I hope you can understand me, I'm kinda confused, so far, I can launch the app but I want to create a new button/shortcut everytime I need to add an external app, thanks in advanced!!!
