Wont install leopard, at all.

I've been sent a backup copy of my family's licenced version of OSX 10.5, my brother won't send me the original due to the Post Office strikes, and awful loss variants of mail, and it is a .dmg file, i put the DL DVD in the drive, and it prompts to install, it then prompts a reboot, and then doesn't do much all else.
It's driving me insane, do i need the original DVD.

I'm not sure how the license agreement of the family license really pertains to "household", and if it can incorporate distinct address households as one. As such, I suggest purchasing your own license for Leopard to remain within the law and be certain that you are. Call Apple and ask how limiting the "household" terminology is. If they do say you can have it installed in two remote locations, my FAQ* here should help you complete the transfer from DMG to a second DVD for yourself if the original DMG was made properly:

Since this is a user to user forum, and we aren't allowed to second guess Apple's policy or do things which are illegal I will not recommend doing my steps above, unless you can get official authorization from Apple it is OK to do so.

  • Just Installed Leopard and all my files are GONE!

Yesterday I installed Leopard and now all of my files are gone. I don't remember being asked how I wanted to install it...but on www.apple.com/support, it said that there were options like "Erase and Install." I don't remember choosing that, but if I had, is there any way to restore my files or does it do a zero erase of the hard drive? I don't have anything backed up, so thus far, I have lost 3 term papers that I was in the middle of and don't have anywhere else... Can anyone help?

Even with minor OS patches and updates, I don't rely on "just do it" but verify and repair, backup, and only then apply updates (and lately, waiting a week first).
    Stop using that disk.
See if Data Rescue II demo can see anything or not (you should install 10.4.10 on another disk drive and work from there, guess you are now?)
Pre-existing errors that you weren't away of? If anything I've thought for a long time that installers should:
warn about and offer to backup
set a restore point in some manner
verify and repair the boot drive
( and this would be done in Single User Mode behind the back )
updates should be written to disk, but applied on restart, again in Single user mode
No weekly or monthly backup routine or schedule? no DVDs with your photos and papers? not in 3 yrs!!! kind of hard to understand you never heard of backups, or burned a DVD of documents for "safe keeping."

  • Power Mac g5 wont install Leopard

i had gotten the computer used amd im locked out of it because i dont have the password.
I put the leopard disk into the computer and restart it while holding c. the computer will start up then go to a blank grey screen and will not go any further. i tried holding the alt option key and clicking on the install disk but i end up on the same screen.. why is this happening? howdo i install leopard on to the computer?

Where did you get the Leopard DVD? Does it have a gray label? If so it's an OEM disc that may be for another model, and it will not work on the one you have. Or it's possible the disc itself is damaged or defective or the optical drive is not functioning properly. And you can't dismiss the possibility the computer has a hardware problem or lacks the minimal RAM required for Leopard - 5121 MBs.

  • Macbook wont install Leopard?

I've got a MacBook2,1 Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X4.11 when the Leopard install disc tells me it's unable to install on my computer?

    Hi,
How is the Hard Drive Formatted ?
Leopard will not install on some formats
I see nothing on this page that indicates any model needs a Firmware Update first.

  • Do I install leopard on all my macs?

Got a macbook and a intel imac. Both systems use airport extreme for wireless internet and printing. I need to upgrade to leopard to use iLife09. Is it important that I upgrade BOTH computers? Need to know if I buy the family pack or not. Thanks.

    Hi
If you want to use iLife 09 on both models and it won't run on anything other than Leopard then it's important for that reason. If you don't want to use iLife 09 on one or the other it's not important.

  • Clarification: Installing Leopard on a non-blank & non-system disk

I'm running 10.3 on my G5. It's got a second disk with some data on it, on which I want to install Leopard. All of the data on the second disk is in one single directory, with a name that should not collide with the Leopard installation.
Will that directory still be there after installing Leopad on that disk? I can neither afford to lose that data nor to move it some place else.

    Richard Segedi wrote:
    Hi thodi,
You stated that you can't afford to lose that data. You are messing with the fates if you don't have it permanently backed up somewhere!
Hi Richard, that data on the drive is actually a backup of the data on my current (10.3) system disk No reason to worry. I am actually the guy who's responsible for data backup at work, I know a little about what I'm doing
I did order a larger external drive for future backups and I'll only begin the Leopard install after I get that disk.

  • Installing Leopard on Firewire HD first

Hello. Is it possible to install Leopard on an external firewire HD, install and configure all the applications (CS3, Office), email etc., and then copy all the content to the internal HD of my iMac? Thanks!

    Thank you baltwo!
I'd rather do the Erase & Install Option as I have a lot of applications installed and I think it's always better to start from scratch (altough it demands a lot more work).
So, after installing Leopard and all my applications on the Firewire HD, and after using the Migration Assistant to transfer my settings, I can erase my internal HD and transfer all the files to it and simply restart?
I'll keep a copy of my current system on another partition of the Firewire HD, just in case anything goes wrong.

  • Leopard wont install at all!

I had no problem with my PowerBook, but my iMc just wont have it. "OSX cannot be installed on this computer". is the error message. Software up to date, 15 Gs spare space and nothing non-apple conected. Help! Any ideas.
    Colin

    Your previous post states:
+"I partitioned the disk( GUID partition table) and installed leopard."+
Therein lies your problem. You cannot install 10.5 on a GUID partition on a PPC Mac (or, at least you can't boot from one). You are using the wrong partition type. You need to use an "APM" partition on a PPC Mac and a GUID partition on an Intel Mac.

hi im having huge problems trying to install flash for my mac 10.5 imac, iv gone through the internet and tried all of the solutions, everytime i try to install flash it says cant read the download file, or it just wont install, anybody plz help!
iv unistalled flash, iv checked plug ins it just wont work,

It would have been a great help to know precisely what Mac you have, so some of the following may not apply:
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 or later is for Snow Leopard onwards.
(If you are running Mavericks: After years of fighting malware and exploits facilitated through Adobe's Flash Player, the company is taking advantage of Apple's new App Sandbox feature to restrict malicious code from running outside of Safari in OS X Mavericks.)
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC (G4 or G5) Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then in System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
You can also try these illustrated instructions from C F McBlob to perform a full "clean install", which will resolve the "Blocked Plug-in" message when trying to update via the GUI updater from Adobe.
Use the FULL installer for 12.0.0.44:  Flash Player 12 (Mac OS X)
And the instructons are here: Snow Leopard Clean Install.pdf
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, try the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the version 11.5.502.55:)
Download this http://scriptogr.am/nordkril/post/adobe-flash-11.5-for-powerpc to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

The hard disk has been previously checked with state of the art techniques that have confirmed that the hard disk drive is in perfect condition.

1.5-3 minute boot up as opposed to 15-20 seconds
    And
why it takes a long time to load a lot of things.
    I have restored this
    from a time machine partition.
TimeMachine is only a backup and restore, it won't fix issues in software and according to your information, doesn't even optimize the restore for best performance on boot hard drives.
What you need to do to regain your speed is to understand how your machine works
    Why is my computer slow?
Fix any and all issues in software following this list of fixes
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Then follow this defrag method I've outlined
How to safely defrag a Mac's hard drive
    Most commonly used backup methods
There shouldn't be need to reinstall OS X fresh unless your having file structure issues which if they are should appear when in the Steps, which then a zero erase and install will cure as well as any bad sector issues, the defrag step wouldn't be necessarry on a freshly installed system obviously as the files are written all together, not in portions all over the drive.
    Hope this assists.

i am russian remuved itunes at all i wont instal folder C:/Program files/itunes what i must do

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

What model iPad and what iOS version is it currently running?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
