  • Encore wont play video files

I recently upgraded encore from ver.2 to cs3 and find that ver.cs3 wont play video files.
It wont play the file in the project window, it just stops at the first frame. If I move the slider below the viewer the video material is updated but it wont play.
In the monitor view it wont play either, I can view the material by manually moving the cursor.
It wont play a preview either, it just stops.
It builds a DVD without problems and the dvd plays fine without errors but the program wont play any video files.
Ver.2 plays all the same video files without problems.
    Please help!

    Whew!
Glad that you got it fixed, and thanks for posting what worked for you.
    Good luck with the interview,

  • QT wont play certain files all of a sudden

I updated my QT 7.2.0 to 7.2.2 and QT wont play my mp4 files, I get an error saying ' movie could not be opened an invalid sample description was found in the movie' . Also it wont play the audio on some formats and I can't get ant audio from youtube. I have flip 4 mac. real audio. m player and divx installed, and I also downloaded some codec as directed by apple when it wouldn't play a certain file. can I go back to my original qt as it was working great. I previously bought QT pro but also had it when I bought 4.5 hd and have just upgraded to FCS 2 can I just reinstall qt from my FCS 2 dvd. And how or should I delete the codecs maybe they are messing QT up.

Thanks, by that I prosume you mean all divx codecs. But does that include x in the extention name ie npUpload.xpt . Also when I go to you tube for example the film plays but no sound. I downloaded vlc which will play my .mp4 files but with no sound. I Work on Logic Studio so I use a motu 896 converter but it does'nt seem to be that. Can I just reinstall QT 7.2 from FCS2 as that was working perfect. Once again Thanks

  • Quicktime Wont Play MPG Files

    Hi,
Just bought my first Mac - loving it. Only issue I have so far is that I have a load of video camera clips with an .mpg extension, which I copied onto an external drive when I had my PC. Now when I come to play these files, it comes up with "The movie xxxxxx.mpg can't be opened. You may need to install additional software to open this type of file.
Wherever I look, it says Quicktime will play .mpg files, so I can't understand why they wont work. All the photo's on the same drive have gone into iPhoto no problem. When I go onto "tell me more" it starts going on about downloading additional media support. Not sure if I'm missing something simple!
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Darran.

Yea...I did this when I got my Mac for Christmas 2009. I can watch the videos no problem...WITHOUT SOUND! If I use VLC everything works right, but I want to be able to burn the videos to DVD to watch somewhere else too. I bought a Mac because this was supposed to be easier...NOT!
Thinking of going back to a PC. At least everyone knows they have issues.

  • QuickTime wont play .mov file

Does anyone know why QuickTime wont play a .mov file from an iLearn 08 training DVD. It would not import into iMovie, which is what the file was for, iMovie training. When I try to play it tells me that QuickTime does not have the software to play the clip then directs me to the quick time components page. The file has a 1920X1080 dimension and it has a HDV 1080i60, Integer (Big Endian) codec. I have downloaded various codec packages for quicktime such as flip4mac, perian, etc. Can any one help me out?

    Hi,
I actually did contact the publisher and they were very helpful. Here is a copy of the email they sent me. It should solve your problem. Good luck!
Thank you for contacting Peachpit Press. We apologize for the errors with
these files. The QuickTime clips used in chapters 5 and 6 were encoded by
the author using the HDV 1080i60 codec. iMovie 08 only works with the 1080i
codec. At the time this book shipped, iMovie 08 was not available for
    testing.
New files are available at peachpit.com here:
    http://www.peachpit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0321502671
Click on the Updates tab and the page will refresh, showing you the
replacement files. You may also request a replacement DVD.

  • QT on win7 wont play .ts file but QT on iMac does!

    Hi.
I have a .ts file which will not play correctly (video ok, audio jumpy) using VLC (both win and mac).
QT 7.72 player on windows gives error 2048 unrecognised file.
But QT 10.0(131) on my iMac plays it just fine!
How can I get quicktime on windows to play it?
background... the .ts file originates from a Beyonwiz PVR. If i record a tv broadcast and download the file, VLC plays it perfectly. However if the recording originates from the a/v input sockets on the PVR, the audio is dodgy using VLC. So i thought i would try QT to play it and i get this inconsistent result. Maybe there is something that the win version needs that the mac version has by default?
btw, my win is win7, 64 bit but this is probably irrelevant as VLC on WinXP does exactly the same.
The fact that QT 10 plays the file fine indicates that the audio is ok in the file, it's just that VLC and QT7 need something to play it back properly, i think.
    Any tips?
And finally, I am reluctant to do any video conversion. The whole point of the exercise is to digitise old vcr tapes and there is hours and hours of content so long, slow conversion exercises are not much fun. I just want to record it, download/store it and play it whenever i want, as a .ts file.
    Thanks.

QT 7.72 player on windows gives error 2048 unrecognised file.
QT 7 does not and never has supported transport stream (TS) files and only supports program streams (PS) files.
But QT 10.0(131) on my iMac plays it just fine!
Very strange. On a Mac, TS files are normally associated with multiplexed MPEG-2 content with AC3 or MPEG-1 audio layers. Since QT 10.0 does not support "muxed" MPEG-2 content natively (i.e., it was only introduced until QT 10.1), the implication is that your TS file is not, in fact a TS file and/or does not contain "muxed" MPEG-2 compressed data. I.e., QT 10.0 should not be capable of playing a standard TS file.) Please check the type of compression used and post back.
The fact that QT 10 plays the file fine indicates that the audio is ok in the file, it's just that VLC and QT7 need something to play it back properly, i think.
VLC contains its own built in codec support and does not rely on your system's QT codec component configuration. QT 7 does not natively support MPEG-2 video, AC3 audio, or TS files. QT 10.1 supports MPEG-2 video, AC3 audio, and TS files but not VOB files. QT 10.0 does not natively support MPEG-2 video or AC3 audio but, if what you say is true, does not trap on TS file extensions.
    Any tips?
I would normally try to use a work flow that does not require converting the original video content. Multiplexed MPEG-2/AC3 or MPEG-2/MP3 content would normally be played using MPEG Streamclip with the QT 7 MPEG-2 Playback component installed. Muliplexed MPEG-2/MPEG-1/2 audio layers would normally be played in QT 7 with the QT 7 MPEG-2 Playback component installed. Multiplexed MPEG-2 video with either AC3 or MPEG layered audio would normally be played using QT 10.1 under Lion. Depending on the actual format used to compress the audio and video data, you could also try demultiplexing the data to elementary program data streams without actually converting the video or place the compressed data in a program stream file container but based on what you've said, this may not be applicable here as your file does not appear to be a "normal" TS file. I suspect your files may actually contain MPEG-4/AVC compressed data normally associated with MTS or M2TS file containers.
And finally, I am reluctant to do any video conversion. The whole point of the exercise is to digitise old vcr tapes and there is hours and hours of content so long, slow conversion exercises are not much fun. I just want to record it, download/store it and play it whenever i want, as a .ts file.
As previously indicated, the TS file expension refers to the file container rather than the compressed data it contains. To best know what you can do with the data, you must first know what kind of data the file contains. Since you indicated the file loads in both the VLC and QT 10.0 players, you should check the media/Inspector and/or Finder Info windows to learn more about the data formats used in your file.

  • My mac wont play .avi files

My macbook stopped playing .avi files that I download from the internet a few months ago.  I assumed they were just broken links, but now its past coincidence.  I have perian, and had DivX.  I removed DivX (heard the 2 clash) but still nothing works.
I thought I would get rid of Perian and try divX, but when I "removed perian" it just said "removed" and didnt actually uninstall.
I also have a bunch of other stuff that I don't use (to my knowledge), wondered if any of it was important:
    Flip4Mac
    Growl
    MacFUSE

If the AVI files are "links" that feed off streaming content, it's possible they have all been removed on the respective streaming severs by the original source, depending on their age.
With that said, Flip4Mac is the Microsoft supported plugin to allow playback of Windows Media Content inside QuickTime. You can check your version & update if needed here:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/windows-media-player/wmcompo nents
It's also possible they may be Divx encoded files. Requiring the Divx decoder plugin:
    http://divx.com
Growl & MacFUSE are generally not related to Media Files. ( Google their names )
Also, Give VLC player a try. There isn't much of anything it won't play ( actually, try this first. ):

  • E65 wont play video files from 6233

just switched from a 6233 to an E65 and have transfered all my content to it.
the .3gp video files that were originally recorded on the 6233 come up with an error message and then only play the sound. all other .3gp files that were sent to me from other makes of phone play fine, as do the .mp4 files.
Anyone know whats going on? its pretty dumb for a newer nokia to not be able to play older nokia video's, yet play sony ericsson and samsung videos....

It is a little complex and it isnt really a UCM problem. Basically you are seeing differences between client software.
In Mozilla you can configure which external apps are used to open certain types of file
In Mozilla you can view Tools > Options > Applications and configure which app opens files (by file extension)
IE has some functionality like this in Tools > Internet Options > Programs however it is not as fine grained. It sounds like IE thinks it can natively display this file.
I strongly recommend that you find out what the Content-Type header is using Live HTTP Headers or similar.
THough you have configured the filetype in UCM you need to make sure that the webserver is set correctly as well if you are using weblayout URL as this is not being served by the UCM java process but by the webserver itself straight from the file system. Playing with the content-type header will change this behaviour.

  • Ipod wont play large files

I have an iPod classic. I have a good deal of Apple Lossless classical music. Some of these tracks are over 200MB. Unfortunately, my iPod will not play these large files all the way through. I surmise that this is because the iPod cache is only 64MB, so an entire 200MB song won't fit. Is there a work-around, or must I downgrade my music quality?

There is no work around unforunately. It is a hardware limitation of the iPod. Sorry.

  • Iphoto wont play movie files and wont double click for zoom or edit

Hi i bought my first ever macbook a week ago, love everything on it,iphoto worked well but today i wanted to show someone a movie file on my camea which i have in my iphoto libray clicked on it and it usually opens, today nothing!!! this file has opened loads before because its a holiday movie, loads of people have seen it but now nothing.
Also my double click to zoom or edit preference seems to do nothing whichever box you check in preffence nothing happens.
Being new to mac i hope i can find some answers!!
    Chris

    Chris:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First Control+click on the movie's thumbnail and select Show File from the contextual menu. When you get to the original movie file double click on it to see if you can open it in Quicktime. If not then it's more a QT issue. If it opens OK in QT go to the next procedure.
Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again. If iPhoto is still misbehaving log into another account and try the same operations in iPhoto there. If still not working you may have to reinstall iPhoto from the disk it came one. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. After you get iPhoto reinstalled run the latest update for it, 7.1.3 if needed.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • HELP! iphone media player wont play files in a .htaccess protected folder.

I installed a personal webserver, Apache and configured it to provide access to my .mp3 files. Through Safari on the iphone I can connect to my webserver and see all of my .mp3 files. If I click on one, it fires up the music/media player.. then says "movie cannot be played". NOW, if I remove any .htaccess protections from the folder or server, then it works perfectly fine and will play my files. With the .htaccess set it does indeed ask me for a login/password,which I enter, but it STILL wont play the file. This stinks. Any smart web people out there know how I can use my own web server to access my files while protection them from other people browsing my IP???? Thanks in advance.

I'm not using secure access (https). I started with the most basic configuration, standard http: on port 80, etc. The configuration works perfectly fine when tested on my home PC. The problem seems to be in Safari on the iphone it prompts me for a login, and accepts it.. then it fires up the media/movie player and I'm guessing it's not passing the authentication/credentials/whatever to the movie player. When the media tries to play, it notes it's an access controlled file and just quits out. The movie player doesnt seem to allow asking of login/password info. Thoughts??

  • Quicktime wont play anything

I recently downloaded a .mov file and it played fine, but now quicktime suddenly stopped playing it. I double click on the file and it takes a while for quicktime to even open and when it finally does it wont play the file. It opens and the movie file's name is changed to "Untitled 2" in the taskbar. There is no audio or video either. Then when I go to File->Open File and click on the one i want to play, it takes a second and then an error message appears that says:
    Buffer overrun detected!
    Program: C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QuickTimePlayer.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled quicktime several times and I also downloaded the latest Quicktime/iTunes and it still gives me this message. I also can't play any other of my files in quicktime.
Anybody know what to do to fix this?

I recieved the same thing a couple of months ago and started to research it but never followed thru with it. I monitored it with a firewall at the time and still have what I jogged down in a notebook.
A computer you were communicating with at IP address ** has attempted to access a different port then exspected. Port 6970, this port is commonly used by Gate Trasher Trojan. Gate Trasher Trojan is a Trojan Horse program. This port 6970 is also used by Real Player and QT to recieve streaming media data.
That is what I had written at the time, certainly not a fix, but may provide some insight.

  • Real Network Wont play WMV

Recently changed from Firefox to Safari.  With Safari Trying to play a WMV file, Realplayer loads home page but I get a pop up box "Windows Media Player cannotplay the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not supportthe codec that was used to compress the file". This WMV video plays in Firefox, IE9 and Opera.  What is missing in Safari 5.0.5 that it wont play the file in Real Player?   Note: It did play with Windows Media but I changed it to Real and now I cant get it to stop trying Real Player,  so I cant play any thing from this site. Unless there is a fix for "Real Player"  which I like the best how do I change it to play with Windows Media player?   I will have to change browsers if I cant get it fixed as this is a site I pay for Stock information so I use it daily and have to have it working.
    Thanks for any help

I do not like IE 8 or 9 and only use them if I have to.  Cant figure out how to use Real Player in IE9 anyway, it only wants to use Win Media which I don't care for either.  I really like "Real" for many types of video.   I have used Firefox for years but recently started having problems with it so I looked for another browser.  Liked Safari so decided to use it.  Any way to get Real Networks to work in Safari?

  • I have copied over my music file to a new computer and the music shows on itunes but wont play. When I track where the song is located it is reading the wrong information. How do I change this as Edit Preferences has the right location

I have copied over my music files to a new computer and the music shows on itunes but wont play. When I track where the song is located it is reading the wrong information. How do I change this as Edit>Preferences has the right location?

Select one of the tracks with a broken link, press ctrl-i to Get Info. Say No when iTunes asks if you would like to locate the track, then look at the Summary tab for the location expects to find the file in.
Now try to locate the file in question. The two locations should give a clue as to what to do next.
Here is an example with a file I've deliberately moved from the new layout to the old pre-iTunes 9 layout.
This means iTunes is expecting to find the file at:
    D:\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\a-ha\Take On Me\01 Take On Me.mp3
but it isn't there because I've moved it to:
    D:\iTunes\iTunes Media\a-ha\Take On Me\01 Take On Me.mp3
which is where it would have lived back in iTunes 8 (though the media folder would have been called iTunes Music back then as well).
If you can provide the expected and actual locations of a broken track I should be able to suggest the easiest way to resolve things.
