Wont play movies

I just updated to itunes 10.7.0.21 and now the movies it have in itunes wont play, it shuts down Itunes?

How does it play in your Mac?
What brand and how old is your DVD player?
What brand and format DVD did you use?
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save as Disc Image...

This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

I am having the same issue. I just rented Superbad, and now I can't get it to play. I don't even get a window to open like it's thinking about playing. iTunes just accesses the store, then does nothing.

QuickTime wont play .mov file

Does anyone know why QuickTime wont play a .mov file from an iLearn 08 training DVD. It would not import into iMovie, which is what the file was for, iMovie training. When I try to play it tells me that QuickTime does not have the software to play the clip then directs me to the quick time components page. The file has a 1920X1080 dimension and it has a HDV 1080i60, Integer (Big Endian) codec. I have downloaded various codec packages for quicktime such as flip4mac, perian, etc. Can any one help me out?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My itunes wont play movies

When I try to play movies I have rented it says the movie is not compatible to play on the screen? It sometimes plays for a while and then stops and a window pops up to tell me its not compatible. Now the window isnt even coming up when it doesnt play, the screen just stays black and when I hit play, nothing happens. So Annoying. Anyone know what I can do?

Panasonic lumix avchd wont play movies correctly in imovies

Does anyone know why when i import a movie recorded in avchd from my panasonic lumix camera, into imovies 09 , it plays the movie really fast and skips frames etc.
The sound doesn't match either.The sound is played at normal speed but the video is playing at double the speed,.
If you know how to fix it , could you please explain it like your talking to a 5 year old. The camera and the computer are both only purchased july 09. Cheers. Brendan

This may or may not help you, but I have read that the ZS3 records at 30fps but it outputs at 60fps through frame doubling. I am not sure exactly how it does this but I believe it is a flag.
I have also read that iMovie does not read the flags correctly to frame double the clip which is why your 39 second clip is outputting at double the speed and completing in 20 seconds.
I also read that it is possible to get iMovie to correct this, but I can not remember the precise steps. You may google for it. Basically it goes like this. You import the movie using iMovie and save it. Then close iMovie. Then you select the movie and (and this is the bit I do not remember) somehow modify a frame rate setting to correct it from 30fps to 60fps. Then open iMovie again and apparently it plays correctly.
Sorry I could not be more help, but god luck with google and hopefully I have given you a few pointers to follow up on.

my dad said i could have his old ipod 5th gen (classic) and i downloaded one of my videos on to it and when i play it it only plays the sound and shows a frame of the movie like music artwork the same happens with music videos

If these are movies and music videos from the iTunes Store, I don't think they play on the 5th gen iPod (the first "video iPod"). The 5th gen iPod was released before the iTunes Store started selling video content. Unlike songs from the iTunes Store, the commercial video content (Movies, TV Shows, Music Videos) have DRM (copy protection). My understanding is that the 5th gen iPod does not have a "chip" needed to play the protected content.
Also, the 5th gen iPod can generally play video content with resolution up to 320x240. Later iPods (that play video) can go up to 640x480. So, that may be why it plays the audio but not the video on the ones you tried. It's the first iPod to play videos; it's more limited in what it can do.

Iphoto wont play movie files and wont double click for zoom or edit

Hi i bought my first ever macbook a week ago,love everything on it,iphoto worked well but today i wanted to show someone a movie file on my camea which i have in my iphoto libray clicked on it and it usually opens,today nothing!!! this file has opened loads before because its a holiday movie, loads of people have seen it but now nothing.
Also my double click to zoom or edit preference seems to do nothing whichever box you check in preffence nothing happens.
Being new to mac i hope i can find some answers!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First Control+click on the movie's thumbnail and select Show File from the contextual menu. When you get to the original movie file double click on it to see if you can open it in Quicktime. If not then it's more a QT issue. If it opens OK in QT go to the next procedure.
Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again. If iPhoto is still misbehaving log into another account and try the same operations in iPhoto there. If still not working you may have to reinstall iPhoto from the disk it came one. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. After you get iPhoto reinstalled run the latest update for it, 7.1.3 if needed.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

QT wont play movies in firefox...

hello
ive had this problem before and i got it working but then something went wrong and i forgot how to fix it. now i cant view movies (ie:youtube)in firefox. i can view movies in safari and some other browsers but not firefox which is my default browser. i ve tried everything possible!

You do have Flash Player installed, correct? Try this:
Open the System Preference/QuickTime/Advanced tab and click the MIME Settings button.
Under Miscellaneous remove the check mark for Flash Media. Restart your browser for these changes to take effect.

I just bought a movie but it wont play on my computer.

I just bought a movie off itunes. not only did it take 90 minutes to download, now it wont play on my monitor.
I have an mac pro book with 10.7.5.
So I downloaded it to my ipad, connected it through HDMI cable to the TV and it refused to play as well. Said the TV monitor was not authorised.
What is the use of paying $30 for a movie when it wont play on any device? I'm not interested in playing a movie on my teeny ipad. I want it on the big screen.
Error message says it is locked?
I thought maybe I could burn it to DVD and then just play it in the Xbox.

It can come about without any change done by the user, and it's not just from other networks. The placement of the router can also affect performance. Also make sure router is up to date.
Apart from that would be the reboots.

Troubleshooting a start up script can be difficult. There are some third party programs that also keep logs of start up programs, however for Firefox this may be different.

Its also possible to check the Web developer tools for any scripts in a page: [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Debugger]
In the control panel there is also Administrative tools to view event logs, but this may be something a local technician can walk you through.
