iCloud is free, iTunes match is $25 a year.
I had the same problem and when I went to Settings I had 0 songs, even though they were obviously still there since I only had 15GB free on my 64GB device.
I decided to do a complete reset/restore of my 4th gen iPod Touch, Bad move! I've been messing with it for hours, and it simply won't restore--it keeps hanging on a black screen with an Apple logo and a progress bar at about 10%, sometimes it goes completely blank and tries again, with the same result. I'm ready to bang my head against the wall! I can put the device in recovery mode, connect to iTunes on my computer, and get it back to the setup screen, but when I go through the process again and try to do an iCloud backup I get the same reset/restore loop.
I could start from scratch, but I really, really, really don't want to go through all of my hundreds of apps, reinstall them one by one, etc. etc. etc.
I thought that once I started using iCloud, I didn't need to sync with iTunes anymore--guess I was wrong.

My Ipod 5 wont play purchased or downloaded music

Recently bought my daughter the new Ipod touch 5 and it wont play her downloaded or purchased music. When you go to play it just loops back to main music screen. Anyone else having this problem or know of a fix.

First I would try:
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Ipod wont play some tunes

I can't play some tunes on my ipod, any ideas?

I had this problem too, through screwing around I learned this. Sometimes, only AAC versions play on an Ipod. What I did was, delete the songs that didn't play from my playlists. Then I went into the songs portion of my Itunes library and right clicked on the song that did not previously play. After right clicking and getting a drop down menu, I clicked on create AAC version. A copy of that song then appeared below the original. After the AAC version was created the copy changed from a light black title to a full black title and the Itunes library gave me that "bling" sound effect. I then played the AAC copy to see if it was a true copy, it was, so I put the AAC version back onto my playlist. I then installed my Ipod shuffle, and also tried on my Nano and synced. The songs that previously did not play now did play. I then deleted the original copy in the songs list and kept the AAC version. (Don't know if deleting the original was a good idea or not, but did not want two copies of the songs, and didn't notice a difference in quality. Maybe Neil Young would notice but I couldn't . Ipod wont play purchased i-tune songs

Recently updated my ipod to the latest version and the ipod will not now play or download the songs which were purchased from the itune store. Can anyone help sort this problem as it is a little frustrating.

Try this. It's worked for some.
Enable the iPod for disk use. See How to enable disk use.
Go to "my computer" and from the tools menu/folder options/view tab, enable "show hidden files and folders" in the advanced settings pane. Open the iPod in "my computer". Look for a file called "iEKinfo". Is it there? If so, make a copy of this file and save it somewhere easy to find (the desktop for instance). Do this also with the "iTunes DB" file. Don't worry if you can't see these files.
Create a new administrator account. Log out of the current account and log in to the new one. Then restore the iPod to factory settings.
Open iTunes, connect the iPod and set the transfer preferences to manual transfer. Then download the free single of the week from the iTunes Music Store. Verify that song plays in iTunes.
Now, drag this song only to the iPod, and eject the iPod from iTunes and disconnect it from the computer.
Does the song play on the iPod ok? If so, log out of the new user account and log back in to your normal one (the one you have issues with) and reconnect the iPod to the computer. Keep manual transfer selected for the moment. Drag some of the older purchased music (the ones that wouldn't play before) to the iPod.
Eject the iPod and disconnect it. Do those songs now play ok?
If not, first try this step.
Delete the SC Info.sidb file. Open iTunes again.
Now transfer some of the affected music to the iPod again. Does it play ok?

HT203167 unable to play purchased tunes on comp and iphone

I recently purchased songs from itunes and have been playing them on my phone but today when i went to sync my phone I got an error saying thet the 2 songs were ubable to be converted. Now I cant play them on my comp and they are no longer on my phone! Any advice? I dont want to pay for them twice!!!

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

Wont play purchased songs

ok I just got this nano for xmas today.it will play all of my songs EXCEPT the purchased one.i've bought 64 (with the last ipod I had) and when I go to the "purchased" playlist it runs through all of them without playing them.whats the problem here?

Apple TV (3rd gen)wont play purchased movies

Having an issue with playing my purchased movies. The issue is that I click play on the movie I want and the gray circle shows like its loading then it reverts back to the play screen again. I have reset it to factory and after 8 minutes or so when it comes up it allows me to play and watch 1 movie. After I stop the movie or try to go into a different movie it no longer works and I have the same issue again. I have checked my firewall and my Avg they are not the issue. I have reset my Internet and the same problem continues. Air play, HBO to go, Netflix all work no issues.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Same problem -- click play, changes to "loading screen" for a few seconds, then flashes back to the "play" screen. I also can't purchase other movies. The first two times I tried, the "are you sure purchase buttons" screen, click it and it flashes back to the movie not screen. Just now, I tried again after restarting, It got me to a screen that required my security code for my credit card. After I put it in, it said I'd have to go to iTunes to finish the authorization. The first time I tried through my iTunes account, it said the service wasn't available. The second time, it let me enter the numbers. Now, back to the Apple TV, again, it wants the security code again. Several attempts failed.
Now, trying to download a free iphone game: iTunes story is temporarily unavailable.
I'm persistant.
Added:
Apple TV is running 6.0.
Netflix plays fine.
Music (itunes match) plays fine.

im new here trying to get help. my itunes stops working when trying to play tv shows and movies. i tried the quick time fix, unchecking a tab in the advanced section that didn't work for me. i have now uninstalled itunes that didn't work either. help

Try this. It worked for a few users after a drop.
Turn the iPad over and give it a very HARD slap on the back. May take several slaps.

For all of you who can't play Purchased tunes from iTunes...

I spoke to AppleCare and solved the problem.
You need to Restore your iPod software. It works! If you need help let me know or someone else please post. Gotta run out for a bit...

First goto control panel>add & Remove in windows and
try to remove iTUnes AND quicktime from there. If you
can not remove them from there go here and roll down
to "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer"

pac_80. Thanks for the assistance. It has partly solved the problem in that my daughter can now hear her tunes through the computer speakers,but still they won't transfer to her actual i-pod. We've tried all the usual 'update i-pod' etc.,but still no joy ! Can you help please ?

Reset the PRAM
Reinstall the operating system from the dvd (you will not loose your data)

HT201272 some games already purchased, wont play like skies of glorys and red tails, and being billed again for items already purchased

why are some games like skies of glory and red tails will download then start with the titles but wont play, they played before the last update IO 6. I have deleted them and reloaded them, still wont play.

I know this stuff is 3 months old but I just got mine and hadn't yet used the pin function so now I know.
I hope you are right Nancy that it will have updates, but I really doubt it. This is the norm for Microsoft when stuff they put out bombs. Dish Network had a DVR receiver many years ago that had Microsoft software installed and it was buggy to say the least. They updated it a few times but then abandon it. For a few years Microsoft wouldn't release the code to Dish Network to allow DN to fix the bugs. It was a real "Hate Microsoft" time for those users. DN had to put out their own coded DVR receivers and let the Microsoft ones die.
I think VZ made a deal with MS and removed the stuff MS wasn't supporting. Then VZ put them out without needing a data package to unload them.

It sounds like the album didn't completely download. I would recommend deleting the effected tracks from your iTunes library and redownloading them from the iTunes store. Take a look at the article below for more information.

I had the same problem so (assuming under the Purchased items in the Store you have a song stuck at 'Downloading'):
I went to Music, then Artists.
From there I chose the album.
The song that failed to download had the cloud symbol next to it.
I clicked the cloud symbol and the song completed the download for me.
(Please note this was in iTunes for Windows - I expect it to be similar in iTunes for Apple)
