Wont restore

I just had my computer completely redone and formatted. But before that I backed up my entire iTunes library to a DVD. So today I installed iTunes and put in the first disc, when I put it in and I get an error saying "The disc 'Backup2007-12-23' could not be read. An unknown error occured [-50]". when I close that it then says would you like to restore from this back up disc?, when I hit restore iTunes then closes and gives me the iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close error message. what do i do to get all my stuff back?

Are you talking about the iPod service error?

  • My 4th Gen iPod wont restore because of error 3194. PLEASE HELP?

It went into recovery mode, and so i plugged it into iTunes. However when I plug it up it says it needs to be restored, and it wont restore because of error 3194. Nothing I have read yet is helping.

Okay! I may have a solution for some of you! I have a 4th gen click wheel, and it was doing the whole restart thing over and over, but never getting past the apple logo.
You need to get to the diagnostic mode. To do this I had to hold down the select and rewind buttons at the same time. (for some models it's the sel/ff buttons or the ff/rw at the same time. The Apple logo will briefly appear backwards, and then you should hear a chime. My screen came up as:
    IRAMPASS
    PLAY TO CONTINUE
    (and some other junk)
    press play.
Another menu will come up, scroll through the menu (my Ipod I had to click ff to scroll through. There were 3 pages to scroll through. I got to disk mode on that menu and with the ipod connected to my computer, I started disk mode. Once disk mode started my computer recognized the ipod (finally) and I was able to restore from the computer.
I did lose all the music stored on it, but I'm happy to have made this progress, considering when I got this ipod from a friend two days ago, who was about to throw it in the garbage, it would not even turn on!
    Hope this post helps someone!

  • My classic 80GB ipod wont turn on, wont restore, it says it may be corrupted and all it does is constantly beep when I attach to my laptop! Windows Vista, 32bit, new version of itunes, etc.. WHAT the ****!? What do I do!?

My 80gb ipod classic is dead! It wont power on, it wont restore, it constantly beeps and shows the apple logo then my laptop says ipod in recovery mode, may have to restore. I read all the other problems and they are similar to mine but have not found anyone saying the screen does not power on except to show logo and do not disconnect. The annoying beeping sound stops after a while, then absolutely nothing! Is the battery removable, what do I do?

I did that and then tried to log onto the Itunes again and a prompt came up and siad the Itunes file wasn't properly installed and it might be corrupted and I should retry it again.
Let's try a repair install of iTunes.
    Restart the PC first.
If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair".
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", and click "Change". Select "Repair" and click "Next" as per the following screenshot:
Can you launch your iTunes now?

    Check USB connections
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
    Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you see your error after changing your USB connections, continue to the next section to troubleshoot your hardware.
    Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
    Common errors: 1, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020.

  • I tried to restore my ipad but all i have got is the itunes logo and cable and it wont restore with an error saying 1604

    Major help please.
Bought my ipad yesterday and the sync all worked fine. I needed to wipe it which worked but now it wont restore and the ipad wont go past the itunes logo with the connecting wire on the front screen and when it sometimes does, after the restore there is an error (1604)
    stressing.
    help would be much appreciated.

    CT782-
How long did you wait?  It might just take a while.
Could the computer's USB port have gone to sleep?  I would try disconnecting the iPad and reconnecting it, to see if that is what iTunes is waiting for.
If there is another USB port, try that one too.

  • IPod touch being read as iPhone and wont restore.

    Hi,
Recently I paid to update my iPod touch 2nd gen 16gb to 3.0 firmware.
I bought my iPod about 3 weeks ago.
It was has been working fine, but now, it's reading my iPod Touch as an iPhone.
Before that, I would try to update it, and it would say the firmware corrupt error, and this was with ANY firmware I tried. I also went in to delete the corrupt file in the appdata sector, and there was nothing there.
Regardless, I deleted the folder, but it still has the corrupted firmware line. I also put it into recovery mode, and tried to update from there but it still said corrupted firmware.
This iPod as an iPhone is the newest problem though, I don't understand why it would pick it up as that.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled itunes.
I have not attempted to jailbreak or anything of that sort.
It does still work and function correctly besides the attempted updating and or restoring part.
Now it's reading as an iPod but still wont restore or update...
Any help would be nice, thanks!

    Hi,
Make sure the iPod touch is directly connected to a high-speed USB2 port on the PC, using the cable that came with it. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286 provides other tips that will rule out USB connection issues.

  • Itouch wont restore   HELP PLEASE

i have a 2nd or 3rd generation itouch. when i unplug it from charging it doesnt work. and when it is pluged in the apple logo appears. i tried restoring it but i wont restore. all it says is "the ipod "******"could not be restored. an unknown error occered (1602). how can i fix this? PLEASE HELP ME

As mentioned in your other post:
Here are some suggestions, copied from Update and restore error messages on iPhone and iPod touch
    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

  • Time Machine deleted all my folders now wont restore

Big trouble here and I am lost as to how to fix it.
I have a Mac Pro, and two users on it
All the Users folders (home folders) are stored on a separate HDD, moved from there usual location on the system drive and the home folder locations changed in Accounts/Users/advanced options.
This morning I wanted to restore everything as it was a few hours ago.
So I opened Finder and navigated to the relevant 'Users' Hard drive.
Then opened Time machine from the dock.
Went back to the correct restore point and clicked Restore.
This was the root of the drive. The Root contains one folder called users
This has two folder for the two users.
Inside each one are the user folders you would expect to see:
    Desktop
    Documents
    Downloads
    Library
    etc
TM said Preparing to restore.Asked for admin password and began restoring.
it then gave a message saying I do not have sufficient prvilidges for the current operation and quit.
It quit after deleting all the files in both users home folders but before it restored anything.
So now I am left with two empty home folders, each containing just one sub folde 'Library', and that looks about half empty.
So basically it has trashed my user data..everything gone and it wont restore.
How do I restore the data back from the Time machine drive? I have turned off time machine backups for now so no more backups are made, and am afraid to log off or turn machine off in case some data vital for log in has also been deleted
    Thanks
    Neil

Definetly Admin user....two users on here, both admin.
The Time machine Drive is an internal 1TB drive.
Definitely selected the correct backup folder...It showed something like
Preparing to copy 13,000 files 133Gb, 3 hours to go, then the progress bar started up, then it said that some files that were beign replaced needed admin privileges, and asked for user-name and password.
I entered admin user-name and pwd, and it continued for about 10 minutes, then failed saying I did not have the correct privileges.
I do have a third un-used Admin account that has it home folder on the system drive. I am going to try logging in as that, reformat the user data hard drive and try a restore from there, see if that does it.
