Wont search from start page

I have the newest version of firefox and the first problem i started getting was connection timed out server not found from searching in the start page. If i searched in the web address page it would pull up. I restarted firefox from the help tab and the first time i search from the start page it works than if i close everything out and start again it does nothing, but if i search in the web address it pulls up.

Yes i made a backup of my bookmarks, did an uninstall with the Firefox uninstaller and deleted personal info because i have a backup of my accounts and passwords and had only changed a few settings in Firefox, then deleted the Mozilla folder in in program files (x86). downloaded a new installer for Firefox using ie. installed custom no desktop icon but one on the tool bar with maintenance tools set as default browser and without importing anything from ie or from my backups of my bookmarks or passwords.
First i searched for "Facebook" it worked, i closed my browser
Second search was "misfile" it also worked so i closed my browser
The third time i opened my browser click the search bar click 'Facebook' from the history drop down and hit enter and nothing happens click search and nothing happens i try the same with "misfile" again nothing.
I type in yahoo click search and nothing, hit enter and nothing.
I do notice on the failed attempts that the little advert from Mozilla is not under the search bar... you know the one, gives helpful hints or tells you of upcoming features or fundraisers.
Again this is on a clean install with all personal info deleted, Mozilla folder deleted from Program files (x86), nothing imported, and no settings changed.

I suggest creating a new profile to determine whether Firefox's program files are corrupt, or your personal profile (settings, add-ons) is creating problems.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, fire up the profile manager and create a new profile: [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles Managing profiles].
If that works, you can (selectively!) move key settings like bookmarks from your damaged profile to the new profile. More info: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile Recovering important data from an old profile].

  • Disable, hide or disappear 'Search' from Start on account

Here is my problem, I have a computer with two accounts, Teacher (administrator) and Kids (standard /child), both are local accounts and would like to Disable, hide or disappear ' Search' from the Start Screen on the Kids account only! Any ideas? I know
this is possible using Group Policy Editor, but this would affect both accounts, any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you

Forgot to mention that I'm also aware that it can be turn off on in Control Panel/Turn Windows Features On or Off

    Hi,
Even we hide the search bar in the start screen, kid can still search in other locations like Windows explorer or Internet explorer, so what is your final purpose? Maybe we can find a alterative solution. BTW, how about Kiosk metioned by Robert?

  • How do I get rid of Yahoo search from starting in the creation of a new tab?

my home page works correctly and I have removed the Yahoo tool bar from plugins/apps (can't remember which) But whenever I open a new tab it opens on this
    http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=freeze&type=W3i_NA,132,3_6,Tab%20Search,20110520,16934,0,19,0
I would like it to open on my home page, which firefox does on startup. But I can't find a setting in options that will allow you to dictate what first appears when opening a new tab.
I tried this solution but it didn't work
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/811550?s=getting+rid+of+yahoo+search&as=s

Do you also have a search bar on your tabs bar if so, it is probably "New Tab" extension, but suggest going through all of the following.
    '''Remove the Yahoo Toolbar'''
    # "Ctrl+Shift+A" (Add-ons Manager)
    # Select Puzzle piece on left-side for Extensions List
    # Find "Yahoo Toolbar" and click on "Uninstall" button, and restart Firefox. ''(if you really need to keep the Yahoo toolbar, you can hide the toolbar instead with customize, and still change all the search defaults as below)''
'''Then to fix the default search engine''' used at the Location Bar, change the value of '''keyword.URL''' in '''about:config''' to one of the values shown in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search#Location_Bar_search_.28external_-_search_engine.29 Location Bar search] at MozillaZine.
    * Google Search (Google search results page)<br>'''http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q='''
    # type in '''about:config''' into the location bar (in a new tab)
    # if the warning message nonsense comes up ''uncheck'' the box '''before''' dismissing the dialog message
    # '''filter on keyword'''
    # right-click on '''keyword.URL''' and choose "modify" then paste in the Google search engine string of your choice.
    # '''filter on defaulturl'''
    # right-click on '''browser.search.defaulturl''' ''(if it exists)''and again choose "modify" then paste in the Google search engine string of your choice.
    # '''filter on ytff'''
    # right-click on '''yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src''' ''(if it exists)'' and again choose "modify" then paste in the Google search engine string of your choice, if adventurous might see if "reset" would remove and see if gone in next session (well not for those keeping the extension).<br

re "Apple should have the control panel report the proper IP address"
On clicking Personal web sharing, you get information to the effect:
View this computer’s website at http://10.1.1.4/ or your personal website at http://10.1.1.4/~user/
This is wrong to a user. Others could not enter this URL and get access to the website using this information. This is what I meant by "wrong"--its NOT the IP address that the user should use to view/use the web site. The software already knows its using DHCP, etc., so it should know to present the modem's IP and from memory in the past it did. As a wrote earlier, I used to be able to just copy the IP address given.
What Apple probably need are two statements:
To view this computer’s website from the local network use ...
To view this computer’s website from the internet use ...
Even, then I'd question the use of 10.1.1.4.

  • Removing e-recruiting start page links

    Hi,
I want to remove some links from start page of recruiter. After some debugging, i found two views through we can maintain the links for start page. These are the views i found:
    V77RCF_SP_ASGRP
    V77RCF_SP_ASGRPC
To my understanding, view V&&RCF_SP_ASGRP is a standard view which can not be modified ( i get a alert "do not modify sap data") and the view V77RCF_SP_ASGRPC dows not have any entries by default and is customizable.
Can I make use of these views to remove some links on start page of recruiter? If yes... how can I do that?
    Can some one help me??
    Regards,
    Nrisimha

Removing links in a start page is done in configuration. You have to create your own start page group and assign the links. You will then assign the group to your won start page. All this is done under - under Technical Settings -> Start Pages. Since you will be creating a new start page you have to assign this new start page in the authorizations to the role of the person who will be accessing the start page.

  • Opening FILE it goes right back to the start page and I have to restart firefox.

I go from start page to Mozilla Firefox and when I go to check or retrieve a FILE it closes down and goes back to the start page(screen saver) and I have to restart Firefox. Also, when I am trying to work on a website and I click FILE to retrieve pictures etc. it goes back to start page(screen saver). I tried using INTERNET EXPLORER and I do not have the problem. I prefer using Firefox.

  • What's the difference b/w Google searching from the Mozilla Start Page and the search bar?

    It's not a high-priority question, I just want a general answer.
I read that Google renews the license of Google search bar on the Mozilla Firefox Start Page, and that's from where Mozilla makes 90% of its money, because it's a not-for-profit organisation.
I want to know whether I am giving Google a signal of making use of that license renewal when I search from the Start Page and not from the search bar I have.

hi Abhimanyu, it won't make a difference if you search from the homepage or the search bar - both use the same default search provider.
in addition, mozilla is no longer partnering with google. for details you might want to see https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2014/11/19/promoting-choice-and-innovation-on-the-web/

  • Cannot change "Start Page" from the FireFox Google Search Page.

Under "tools"/"options"/"general" I've changed my homepage to Bing.com & designated this as my "start page" however whenever I open a new tab the FireFox Google Search Page always comes up and I must click the "home" icon in order to get my Bing Home Page to load. This is a step I would rather skip. What must I do to get FireFox to open immediately in my designated home page?

The home page is just what opens when you click the Home icon on the toolbar, and when you start Firefox, provided that under Options → General you've set "When Firefox starts: Show my home page".
    * [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
When you open a new tab, you normally get a grid of tiles listing recently visited sites. (From Firefox 31 onward, there's also a search box, but it uses whatever search engine you've selected in the search bar on the navigation toolbar)
    * [[New Tab Page – show, hide and customize top sites]]
    # [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/custom-new-tab/ Install Custom New Tab].
    # Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A; Mac: Command+Shift+A), then the Extensions category.
    # Next to Custom New Tab, click the Options button.
    # Enter whatever URL you want to open in each new tab, and make sure "Place focus in URL bar" is not checked.
Strictly speaking, you don't need the above add-on to choose what opens in each new tab. But Custom New Tab allows you to decide whether focus should go to the address bar. Without the add-on, it does, so you have to first click the search box on the web page before you can start typing your search query.

  • How do I get back the functionality for the alphabetical drop down from my previous searches in the center Google search box of the Mozilla Firefox Start Page?

In the afternoon of August 24 I lost a feature on my Mozilla Firefox Start Page and I cannot figure out how to get it back. It concerns the Google Search area in the MIDDLE of the page. Previously, when I would want to do a search, for example Amazon, I would type the letter 'A' and, because I had typed 'Amazon' in that Search box before, an alphabetical drop-down menu would come up with 'Amazon' in it. I could then click on that word without having to type the rest of it. That option is no longer working.
I had done an Adobe Reader update that Friday morning, so I thought that might be why this happened,. I did a System Restore and took the system back to Tuesday, August 21. That did not help.
I ran CCleaner and cleaned the Registry also. Interestingly enough, I found that right after I do that and then open a Mozilla Firefox Start Page, the alphabetical drop down function is back in the center Search bar for one time, one search. After that it is gone again. I go in and do just CCleaner (no Registry cleaning required) and the same thing happens...the functionality is there for one search only.
I went in and made sure all my Add-ons/Plug-ins are up to date. I also ran a full system scan but no issues came up.
I am computer illiterate, so please bear with me. I have no idea if any of the things I tried would have helped or not.
    I have Windows 7 and Firefox 15.0.1
I appreciate any help you can provide.

  • AVG Secure Search appears when I use Google Search from my Home page only.

My home page is the Firefox default page with the Google searchbar. I like getting occasional messages from Firefox when I log in so I don't want to change my homepage. However, when I use the searchbar ''on my homepage only'', I get the unsatisfactory AVG Secure Search results.
UPDATE: I now realize all the troubleshooting information I included in my original question appears under the "More System Details" link next to the question, not in the body of the question. I have copied it here to make it easier to see what I have already done to try to solve the problem, as well as describe the one clue I have that may be relevant:
I have tried all the fixes on various threads, but my about:config is now pristine (no avg or isearch mentions; keyword.url is default). Closest solution is that at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/866327 , which requires changing my home page.
Oddly, AVG Secure Search is ''not'' a problem when I use the Google toolbar or search from the Google website, only when I use the search bar that appears on my home (start) page. This is true even when I return to my home page--if I search from the Google search bar in the middle of the page, I get sent to AVG Safe Search. (isearch.avg.com).
I read in one thread a suggestion to delete my chromeappsstore.sqlite file in my Profile folder. As promised, Firefox created a new one when I restarted it; however, the search bar in the middle of my home home page did not work at all. Tried this three times before restoring my original.
I do not have an application that will open a sqlite file, but I tried doing so in Excel and found a cell containing the following:
    emoh.:moz-safe-aboutsearch-engine{"name":"AVG Secure Search","searchUrl":"http://isearch.avg.com/search?cid={7A3C25A0-E345-4507-AA31-D98F596A81A9}&mid=c48135235ba247d18ac1d14b344db451-addd29eab2809954d5abdf0b991a5b911a297819&ds=is015&lang=en&v=10.0.0.7&pr=sa&d=&sap=dsp&q=_searchTerms_"}
I have no clue what that means, but it is the only thing I can find related to Firefox that still mentions AVG and isearch.avg.com.
At this point my best guess (but it is a guess) is that the chromeappsstore.sqlite file is a key to the complete solution, but I do not have enough knowledge to go beyond and address it. I appreciate any help you anyone can offer.

Here is the way to get rid of the problem once and for all:

  • How can I make Mozilla Firefox Start Page use Google search instead of SearchCompletion search?

I have just upgraded Firefox 9 to 10. I noticed when I fire up Firefox at the Start Page and enter a query at the search bar, the resulting pages are from SearchCompletion engine.
How do I make Google search engine as the default engine at the Firefox Start Page ... like it has always been?
Seems like one of those irritating changes that happens when upgrading versions...

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

  • I updated to Firefox 3.6.8 and now I get an anycolor start page that keeps popping up and my google toolbar search no longer works.

Ever since updating to 3.6.8 I open firefox and get two tabs. One for my homepage and one which is an "Anycolor start page". Hugely annoying and can't stop the 2nd tab from popping up every time I start Firefox. Also my google toolbar search function no longer works. Type in a search and hit enter and nothing happens.

I have exactly the same problem. I entered Firefox in safe mode and deleted AnyColor from my addons. But now when I click on the addon button this is what I get:
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623"
But nothing happens and I have to reboot my computer because it freezes on this message. Damn, I wish I had not upgraded to Firefox 3.6.8
    Somebody please help! Thanks
