my iphone 3g will not slide to unlock, i can slide to power off? its updated to latest software but still the same, i cant answer calls or any functions at all other than slide to power off, any ideas? thanks in advance.

Just had this happen today, was working last night, this morning the touch screen is not responding at all. Tried to do an apple logo reset and it just started clicking like a camera taking a picture. Done a full factory restore and still no touch screen functionality. Going crazy without my ipod, somebody please help me !!

Force iPad into Recovery Mode
1. Turn off iPad
2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times.

Even i had a same issue on my iphone 3gs. Its a boot memory issue and can be resolved in two ways
1. You need to remove the battery and keep it for 20mins(Which is lil complicated if u donot know how to remove) then place it back so that it refreshes the memory and starts fresh boot.
OR
2. Dry out the battery completely ensure it dies without battery , keep it saftely without charging for a week(7days mandatory) and after a week start charging . This procedure ensure that once the battery is completely dried it will refresh the boot memory and starts with fresh boot . This process is same as the above
As i donot recommend removing the battery as the procedure is complicated and factory fit is not obtained, you may also end up with loose screws hence i would recommend going with 2nd step , let me know if you have any questions.

I have new iphone and trying to clear old phone to pass on but I seem to have got so far and now the slider on opening screen 'slide to unlock' is stuck. I have tried holding on/off key and screen button down. Can anyone help?

Try holding down the on/ff and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, it can take up to 30 sec.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My iphone 5 wont slide to unlock, but hard resetting (Holding power button and Home button) doesn't fix it.

Try connecting the iPhone to iTunes and don't even try to slide to unlock ...just let it bring iTunes App up and then do a Sync.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).
Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

TJBUSMC 1973 - I had thought that all of your comments were very sensible but I have has the same problem that deuce78 had. Bought a new iPad 2 just before Christmas, managed to set it up with passcode etc and now everything has frozen. Tried everything within my limited knowledge and was unable to resolve. Phoned Apple helpdesk and a gentleman be told that yes, they would be able to help with a reset as and asked me to wait for a minute or so. When he returned he told me that I would need to pay around £80 for a twelve month software support package. I told him that I do not want this, just an answer to the problem that I was having with a brand new product. He categorically told me (and I am being totally honest here and not exaggerating) that in that case he could not help me. I stressed that it is a brand new iPad and that I had added no apps or software, it had just stopped working on the first day that I tried to use it and that surely if they could talk me through a solution they should do so free of charge. To this there was a straight no, I asked if there were any other options or another number that I could ring, and again was told no.
So which is the truth that will set us free?
I am off tomorrow on a 30 mile round trip to the Apple store to get my iPad replaced when it sounds like it could have been sorted over the phone!
