I believe this happend after I installed World of Warcraft patch 4.3 (havn't installed anything else in the past months)

• Satellite A300-1NO - Wakes up from standby mode

Hi all!
I have got a Satellite A300-1NO with Win XP pro.
The problem is, that the laptop wakes up from standby mode automatically after about 5 minutes.
I tried to unplug all cables (LAN, usb, etc) but the power plug, but it's the same result.
So what can cause this? What should I try?
thanks.

You should disable the Wake up on LAN function in BIOS and Windows.
Check the BIOS for this option!
You can disable this feature in Windows if you right click on the network card > properties > advanced > wake on LAN
I hope it works for you.

• Satellite L850-13R wakes up from standby with no reason

My L850 wakes up from standby every 10-20 minutes and after some time goes to standby again.
All power options are set as they should be (that means no wake on battery and even no wake up on power).
Problem is that this is my business notebook and I moves around with me so I could expect HD errors, not to mention battery life (I found it with dead battery this morning).
I have the latest firmware available (1.60)...
Anybody else facing this problem ?

In case anybody has similar problems one of the solutions could be:
IN registry look for
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl \DumpFilters
where you'll find a list of drivers that can possibly prevent standby (dumpfve.sys seems to always be there so don't touch it).
For other drivers remove the programs that installed them (I had MfeEpeHb.sys) or
do something not recommended and remove the lines with drivers you're suspecting prevent successful hibernation).
Eg. modify DumpFilters from
[DumpFilters]
MfeEpeHb.sys
dumpfve.sys
to:
[DumpFilters]
dumpfve.sys
That did the trick for me.
Hibernation tested and works without any problem

• Mac Mini wakes up from standby automatically

Hi,
My Mac Mini wakes up from standby automatically. Waking up via network is disabled and I use an Airport Extreme, a USB mouse (not from Apple) and a wireless Apple keyboard. OS X version is 10.5.8.
I have the Mac Mini since about 10 months now. Almost 1 month after I bought it, I had the this problem but thought I am doing something wrong or my wife has forgotten to turn it off
After a while it was OK. About 3 months later it startet waking up by itself again. I called Apple Care (although the 3 months support was over). They tried to help, but there was no progress. It waked up again and again. After about 1 month it was OK again without me having done anything, no installations, no system updates.
One week ago, the Mac found some updates at Apple and installed them. Since then I have again the problem! I contacted again Apple Care and again they could not help. They just want me to pay for an extension of the Apple Care package, although they could not help me in this case!
Now I want to try it myself getting support by people in this forum. I hope there is someone with experience about this case.
I am not much experienced with OS X, but I will try to answer questions that could help me resolve this problem.
BTW, I searched for a similar topic and found one ("My MacMini always wakes up from standby") but in that case the wake up feature is activated by the user. In my case this feature is deactivated, as mentioned above.
Thanks
Cheers

Hi,
sorry for the delay, but I was on a business trip.
@Bsteely: Sometimes it wakes up immediately because of loosing connection to the keaboard when I send it to sleep. I suppose at the beginning of the sleep mode it into sleep mode, the keaboard connection is closed, then the keyboard "thinks" there is a problem and sends a message to the mini and the mini just wakes up again showing that the connection to the keyboard was lost but established again! This even happened as I had unselected the checkbox "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake up this computer" in Preferences -> Bluetooth -> Advanced.
But there are also times when the mini does not wake up so quickly. It just wakes up after hours. I had a look at Console.app as you suggested. Very weird to me indeed Well there I found something like "Wake reason = OHC2" or "Wake reason = OHC1". Unfortunately I cannot find older logs there.
@Boece: Hi and thanks for helping!
Well, I will try the update as soon as I can. By now I have no external harddisk to first save my data before doing the big update. But I am going to buy one soon.
Well turning off the monitor is OK, but the harddisk can wake up anytime while the mini is turned on as the OS might need to do something from time to time. And I don't want my computer to consume electricity even if it is such a small one like the mini. I'm a kind of green dude (but not from Mars ). And the sleep mode is interesting for me as I have very often many different Internet sites and some applications running, so I don't need to close them before turning off and open all of them again when turning on the mini.
Regarding other IR devices: The only IR device now is the keyboard. I even took out the batteries and the mini still woke up over the night!
Thanks again for your support guys. Please let me know if you have any further information of ideas.
Cheers

My first gen iMac G5 1.8 20" wont wake up from sleep. Always I have to plug out and then in the power cord from the outlet then I can turn on the computer.

You could also try the following;
If your Mac happily goes to sleep but won't wake up--Hold down the power switch to force-reboot your machine and get it running again.
Don't worry-your Mac isn't narcoleptic. Its Open Firmware system or NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM) is likely corrupt, and your Mac can't remember how to wake up.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Command-Option-O-F key combo until you see a somewhat intimidating command-line display that ends with the Open Fimware prompt. Type the following line:
reset-nvram
press the return key on your keyboard
set-defaults
press return
reset-all
press return
Your Mac will reboot. Once it's running, put it back to sleep to test. If the problem recurs your Energy Saver preferences may be the culprit. Delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file (go to Finder/Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration)--don't worry, your Mac will regenerate a new one--and then restart to see if that rights the wrong.
Still didn't work? Might be time to call AppleCare or see an Apple Genius or a technician.
Cheers!

• 17 " Macbook Pro (Early 2011) wont wake up from sleep

Hi, super new to the forums and was hoping for a solution here.
When I leave my computer on while I'm asleep (playing iTunes) it wont wake up by pressing keys or the trackpad or pressing the power button. The computer is still responding to keys, I can hear the "blop-blop" of the volume buttons, it's just the display isn't turning back on nor is the little light flashing that it's asleep. I figured out if I close the lid then wait for the light to start slowly flashing, it'll wake up when I open it, but I don't want to do that for every time it falls asleep on me.
I called support and they had me hold SHIFTCTRLOPTION to do something, and that ended up not working. They also had me reinstall OS X 10.6.6 and it didn't fix the problem either. Is it time I brought it to the Apple store for an exchange/refund?
tl;dr
MBP falls asleep, wont wake up, called support, didn't fix it, should I exchange it or is there another way to potentially fix this?
Thanks for the help!
-scott

Hi. Dave from Avatron here. We've been testing on a new MBP and haven't been able to replicate the problem. However we do have a working theory about the cause.
Our theory is that Migration Assistant simply fails to invalidate the kernel extension cache when it should. The result is that when you migrate to a new machine with a different built-in display driver configuration, it can't wake from sleep. Or more precisely, it can't wake to Intel graphics if the last graphics adapter used was the Radeon one.
If we're right, then one of these steps should fix the problem:
1. Install a kext (for example, simply reinstall Air Display), OR
2. Uninstall a kext (this is why the problem went away when you uninstalled Air Display), OR
3. "Touch" the kernel extensions directory in Terminal, OR
4. Boot in Safe Mode.
Then reboot.
If you can't wake from sleep, please try one of these possible solutions, and let us all know how it goes.
Thanks!

Hello!
Thank you for posting in HP support forums and thank you for your trust in HP.
I am sorry about the issue you experience.
I suspect your computer's hardware might be faulty.
I think you mean BSOD - blue screen of death or something like >this<
This is safety mechanism. By default when Windows encounters BSOD, it copies the memory to the so called memory dump files. They can be useful to analyze the issue.
Please, go to Control Panel -> System -> System Protection -> "Advanced" tab
Follow >these instructions< and configure the system to generate Kernel dump files.
Once ready, repeat the BSOD.
When you next start Windows, a file with this location
%SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP
should have been generated. Usually this is C:\Windows\memory.dmp
When you are ready, please let me know and I will provide you a way to submit this file to me so that I analyze it and see what I can see from it, what the issue is.
Please, also test your HDD and RAM from BIOS:

• Wake Up From Standby

I just added a MS wireless keyboard. Is there a way to wake up the Portege from standby from this keyboard? Now I have to open the lid and use the power button on the notepad. Before, I had settings that put the notepad in standby when I closed the lid. I changed that setting to do nothing when close the lid.
The notepad is set to go to standby after 15 minutes of non-use. This works fine but when I want to use it again I can't find a way to wake it up without opening the lid and using the power button.

I have read your posting 5 times now and I believe I have understand what you wrote but I am asking myself how you want to work on your Portege if you do not want to open the lid????:|
> …I can't find a way to wake it up without opening the lid…
You want to use notebook with closed lid or what? Do you use external display?

• MBP 10.6.4 wont wake up from sleep mode

My MBP is connected to an external monitor and i keep the lid slightly open to keep it running cool (last MB I had overheated and caused battery issues, so was advised to keep lid slightly open). It works fine until it goes to sleep mode, after which it wont wake up. This is annoying as I lose data on documents Im working on as I have to force it to restart.
Is there a solution to this ridiculous issue?

I came across these two useful links. The problem is not gone but is less frequent now.
http://www.wintellect.com/CS/blogs/jrobbins/archive/2009/11/16/fixing-a-nasty-wi ndows-7-mac-pro-sleep-and-hibernation-problem.aspx
http://www.troublefixers.com/macbook-does-not-hibernate-sleep-in-windows-7-insta lled-in-dual-boot-with-bootcamp/
John Robbin's solution of resetting PRAM/NVRAM addressed the problem but only temporarily in my case. The problem would recur in an hour.
Abhishek's blog address the opposite problem, but his solution of not having any programs in windows start up helps. I removed skype from the startup.
I also started using Parallels to bring up the bootcamp windows and that too provided a workaround.
Looking for a cleaner solution.
