Word 2008 A file error has occurred. Check your network connections . . .

Word 2008 12.1.2 throws an error dialog when trying to save a docx file:
"A file error has occurred. Check your network connections or make sure the disc is properly inserted and not defective (nameoffile.docx)"
Newsgroups recommend to trash the Normal.dotm and let Word re-create that template but that doesn't solve the problem.
Newgroups also recommend specifying the file location of User Templates. That's doesn't help either.
A new file, however, does not appear to be a problem after following these suggestions. So there may be something wrong with my file.
I suspect it has something to do with the gutter and mirror margins because when these features are manipulated, Word 2008 inserts an extra "section next page" that I am not happy with, and the page numbering and sometimes section numbering gets thrown off.
Actually, I don't care WHY it's happening. I just want to know HOW to avoid this error. I cannot save changes to an important docx file anymore.
My work around: "Save as" to doc format and continue working!
However, I would prefer to keep working in docx format because Word bloats doc files incessantly, but docx seems to keep file size in check.

that was only a temporary fix. It didn't work well for long. Back to problems with both doc and docx versions of the same file.
Are there any other general swathes I can make, e.g. repair permissions (been there, done that)? I have trashed Normal.dotm, the 2008 preference files and repaired permissions.
docx files throw the error dialog, doc files crash Word on a regular basis.
Any more ideas?

there has been a big problem with facetime and imessage. The best solution for this case is to restore your device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Make sure you back it up. and I would set up facetime before you reinstall your backup and  make sure its working.

    Welcome to Apple Support Discussions,
    Have you tried:
Turn FaceTime or iMessage off and then back on in Settings.
Launch Settings by tapping the icon on the Home screen
Scroll down to Messages or FaceTime
Toggle the switch from on (green) to off (white)
    Wait a minute
Toggle the switch back to on (green)
    Wait for it to re-activate
Hard reboot your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad
    Make sure you're on Wi-Fi
Hold down both the Home button on the front, and the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device
Wait for the Apple logo to appear
If it still doesn't work, repeat step 1 (turning FaceTime or iMessage off and on)
    Reset network settings
Launch Settings by tapping on the icon on the Home screen
    Tap on General
Scroll all the way to the bottom and tap on Reset
    Tap on Reset Network Settings
If it still doesn't work, repeat step 1, then step 2, above (Turning FaceTime or iMessage off and one, rebooting).

  • TS1424 I am having issues downloading music from iTunes, it comes up saying an unknown error has occurred - please check your network connection. Now I can connect to iTunes store and have itunes as an exception for downloads so don't know what else to do

Hello, I've started having an issue downloading songs and apps from iTunes to our PC which has Windows XP Professional installed. We also use Karspersky Anti-Virus and Firefox as an internet browser. Have never had this issue before, it comes up with "An unknow error has occured and downloads are stopped with an error 8003. Also says please check your network connection" We have no issue connecting to iTunes store or the network so not sure how to fix this. It is very frustrating. Have checked Windows Firewall and iTunes is an exception, can't think of anything else why it won't work.

I sounds as though you need to start again. The following article tells you how to completely remove iTunes and Quicktime. If you didn't actually install iTunes you wont find it in add/remove programs so you can't do that bit, but still delete the iTunes folder in Program Files as advised in the article.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
Once you have got rid of them, try installing the latest version of iTunes. There is a link to it in the article.
Itunes wont move your music for you, get iTune sgoing then ask again.

Try deleting the cache associated wi the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Now open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
Click Go then move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Try the App Store.

  • Unable to save PDF - Internet Explorer Protected Mode "A file error has occurred"

    Hi,
I hope you can all assist! Here's the detail:
Reader XI (11.0.06) and deployed as physical installation (.msi)
    Windows 7 x64 Enterprise
    Internet Explorer 8 & 9
Opening PDF's from HTTP & HTTPS locations
Users are unable to save the PDF file to their chosen location (network share or local directory) "A file error has occurred".
When the Internet Explorer Protected Mode is switched off, users are able to save the file to their chosen location.
Is this is specific functionality of IE Protected Mode whereby the ActiveX control is being restricted.
Is this due to Enhanced security within the Adobe Reader 11.0.06 application?
Our current Reader version (9.3.0) is able to save files from unprotected locations, so this is creates a problem justify upgrading.
    Do anyone have any suggestions?
Look forward to any assistance or suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Simon.

    Hi Simon,
How are you saving the file (right click or from File menu)?  Does the problem happen with any PDF file?  Does the problem go away if  you turn "Enable Protected Mode at startup" from Reader (Preferences > Security (Enhanced)?

  • TS1135 Cannot process the Photo Book; it fails always at the very last stage with "error occurred while uploading on of your files. Pls check your network connection and click Retry..." Tried at 12 times and no joy!  Can anyone help?

Can anyone help with the Photo Book process?  I have tried at least a dozen times and the Photo Book always fails at the very last stage of the process.  I ordered Buy Book, it assembles the book and files are transferred until the very last moment... it says " An error occurred while uoloading one of your files.  Please check your network connection and click Retry to resend your files."   It fails every time, any advice?  My server is TalkTalk which may explain everything !! ??   Help.

Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and order from there.
Also make a PDF file of your book according to this Apple Document, iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it, before you order to check for errors.  Keep that file to compare with the printed copy when it arrives.

  • An error occurred while uploading one of your files. Please check your network connection and click Retry to resend your file

    Just for the record:
I had received the error message "An error occurred while uploading one of your files. Please check your network connection and click Retry to resend your file" after all data apparently had been uploaded.
After trying everything recommended on the internet, I finally found the culprit: Glimmerblocker, an ad blocker!
(GlimmerBlocker version 1.4.16, Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion)
Actually, the credit goes to the very patient German Apple support: they had finally asked me: "what software have you installed lately" ... a big applause to the guys there!
    Best,
    Gabriel.

In our case, it was not third party software, but a problem with our router not accepting pings.  If you are using a router be sure to set-up Enable WAN Ping Respond,  in the advanced settings.  I reviewed my wireless router's logs and found that it was blocking ICMP Type 3 packets from Apple's server.  As a result, it would give the message, "An error occurred while uploading one of your files.  Please check your network connection and click Retry to resend your file."  You can find the blocked packets in your log based on the time you clicked the buy button for your iPhoto purchase (in my case about a dozen times).  If your packets are blocked, then that is your problem.
I should have suspected it was the connection since the message plainly said, "...check your network connection...".  However, I discounted this along with so many others based on the forums, since I could connect to the internet.  If there only was a way the message could have gave a little more saying, "Enable your WAN Ping Respond now, or else!"
Good fortune on your road to Macenlightenment!

  • I am trying to order a book, I keep getting the same error message," A network error occurred while processing your order, please check your network connection and try again"

I am trying to order a book with iphoto, I keep getting the same error message.
" A network error occurred while processing your order, please check your network connection and try again"
I get the billing part up, it has even uploaded my jpegs but at the final process, I get the same message.
I have ordered two books a few months ago without any problems.
Now I keep getting the same message either half way into
the order or at the final hurdle after the images have been uploaded.
    Any ideas?
My shared Network has been fine and that does'nt seem an issue.
    Help.

Try again in a couple of hours - sometimes it is a temp condition

  • What do I do with this Twitter sign in error on my Macbook Air. An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made.

When I try to login in to my Twitter, it gives me this error: An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made.
    What's the solution? Thanks!

Go into your browser preferences and make sure the boxes for ' Use SSL 3.0' and 'Use TLS 1.0' are checked. The settings will be in preferences > advanced > encryption.
You could also try using another browser.

The problem was solved by Apple Technical Help. The process is as flollows:
    1. Open Safari
    2. Menu item Safari-Reset Safari - remove all website data - reset
    3. Now if you try to login on iTunes connect it will work.
