Word 2008 makes Photoshop 6.0 document appear too blue

I am trying to import a Photoshop 6.0 document into Word 2008 in publishing layout mode. I drag the Photoshop image across from my desktop and into the Word document, and it appears, but it is too blue! The white does not appear to be discolored but the green appears brighter, and the pink is purple. What is going on!? How can I correct this?

Solving this while continuing to use Word and Photoshop is not a question for this forum... though, whether it's appropriate for a Microsoft forum or an Adobe forum, I'm not sure.
What I can tell you is that, when I tried to make a brochure for my wife's business, I did it in Word first. The graphics that I inserted (created using Photoshop Elements) looked fine on screen but absolutely horrid when printed, both on my inkjet printer (I figured it was just my printer) and when printed by CopyMax.
On the advice of some folks on these forums, I went and bought a copy of iWork and re-created the brochure in Pages, using exactly the same graphics files. The prints from Pages were perfect on my inkjet, and have been repeatedly printed by several online print services with excellent results.

  • Does anyone know if running Photoshop thru a external SSD (using firewire) as a scratch disk, on a imac early 2008- make photoshop any faster doing tasks?

    Has anyone tried this and if so, was there a noticable difference in photoshop doing its various tasks?  Again, its a imac early 2008, and I looking to use a firewire to attach a Solid State Drive to use as the scratch disk. I am maxed out a 6gb ram.
    Thanks

    KiltedTim's right of course. You seem to have adequate RAM.
    I would ask you if this sluggishness is NEW?  If so, what has changed that you can identify? Updates or upgrades? New software etc?
    What kind of tasks? Any operation on a big image is processor heavy, but you have the RAM so scratch disk is the right direction. What is your 'History' preference in PShop? Keep that as small as you can afford to. Save often. Keep as few images open as possible - each image has its own History. Save often.
    For scratch info on an image, choose that from the 'triangle' pop menu at the bottom of the document window. That seems a good way to tell if scratch disks are even at fault.

  • Is there a way to make Photoshop CC keep document windows inside the application window?

    I've been a Photoshop user for a long time now, but only recently made the switch from CS3 to Creative Cloud. Generally I really like the changes, but there is one thing I absolutely hate with a passion - the default window management. I often want to arrange my windows side by side, so I disabled the tab mode, but the problem with doing this is that the windows are not managed inside Photoshop as they used to be in CS3. The biggest problem I have is that windows are not contained inside the Photoshop application frame as they used to be. I much prefer the old behaviour and wonder if there is some kind of option to reenable it.
    Anyone know? I notice the Mac version has something called application frame, which sounds like what I need, but it's Mac only for some reason :/

    I'm not a Mac user so don't know what menu it comes under, but Aplication Frame is what turns that feature on and off.  Either Window or View menu would be my guess

  • Acrobat 9 Pro & Word 2008 doc with sections problem

    I have recently switched from Windows to a MacBook Pro and am just now using Word 2008 & Acrobat 9 Pro for the Mac. I have an 11-page Word doc (created with Word XP before the change) that has several sections in it (to change page orientation). When I send that doc to the Acrobat PDF virtual printer, it creates several files corresponding to the sections in Word, but omits the first section completely. This never happened with Word XP and Acrobat 7.Is there something I missed in setting up Acrobat? Is this common with the Mac version of Acrobat?
    Thanks. John.

    This is a long standing issue between Acrobat (Adobe/Apple/Microsoft). Both Microsoft and Adobe Blame on Apple. But the problem has been around since Mac OS 6 days and acrobat 2-3. Back then Mac didn't even you the Abobe PDF engine for visual and printing as in OSX. Adobe refuses to fix the problem because they are not as big a fish as Microsoft. Microsft if you don't fix a problem for them it means the death of your Company. Microsoft has included a work around in 2008 . That is go to Save as... and choose PDF.
    It will save as one document, Unless there is a switch in Page orientation. Microsoft both on Bulletin Boards (Forums) and on website say that the code is identical for Mac and PC version except for VBA missing, key layouts and inteface changes. But MS refuses to allow Adobe a Look at their Page and section Break codes so they can cure it.
    Try saving as PDF in Word 2008 make sure version ia 12.2.1. Next see if all pieces are there.
    In Acrobat and choose insert pages then choose the next section. and add to end. go to end and repeat with next section, and repeat, with next section until all the pieces are together. I wish the problem was fixed it been going on since the day Acrobat came on the scene. And the aprties are so afraid and scecretive they won't work together to fix the problem.  But that business these days everyone is out for themselves, and don't care who get affected in the process.

  • Pages'08 vs MS Word 2008

    I have been using Pages'08. I find it great. It's very straightforward and user-friendly. It works wonderful especially when I incorporate some pictures in my paper.
    However, it's such a pain in the neck that I have to export to .doc or .pdf every time I finish my work;nevertheless, I've been using it because it's the best word processor ever as far as I know.
    Now we have MS office 2007(?is it right?) for Mac. Even though I really hate MS stuff, if MS word 2007 works as well as Pages'08, I would switch to it.
    How many times I cursed my self when I saw my Pages file in my external hard drive when I needed to print it out at other places?

    Yes, I know that a lot of things can be done with Word, already in 2004. However, I still have a feeling that one has to struggle more to make things work in Word.
    Correct me if I'm wrong in this, but Word 2008 still does not snap objects to alignment lines? It still does not support advanced typography (except very basic ligatures)? It still does not support Services, does it?
    Word 2008 does a lot of things that Pages does not do, and there are a lot of things that you can do, if you only sit down and take your time in Word 2008. However, the amount of functions in Word 2008 makes it more difficult to find the things you actually need. For many of us. Depending on the individual needs of course.

    You select the printer properties and set the appropriate page size (I think there is a place to set it in PDF Maker too, but not sure). In the printer, this is equivalent to putting the proper paper in the printer.

  • Inserting date & time in Word 2008 document

    I'm trying to create simple AppleScript and I'm hoping someone on here can help me.
    I work in Word 2008 for Mac and want to create a script that simply inserts the phrase "Left message(space)" plus the date and time whenever I run the script. I'd also prefer that the phrase be in italics if possible. I use this because I often call people and leave them a message and I like to keep a record of when I call them.
    I found this script online and modified it hoping it would meet my needs:
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
    tell selection
    type text text "Left message "
    create new field text range text object of selection field text {"DATE \\@ \"MM/d/yyyy\""}
    end tell
    end tell
    The result is that when I run the script, I get something like this in my document:
    Left message 6/10/2010
    It's a good start, but there are two problems with this.
    First, I would like to insert both the date AND the time.
    Second, when it inserts the date, it makes it an "update automatically" date that updates to the current time every time I open the document. This obviously doesn't help me keep a record of when I made a call. What I would like is for it to just insert the current date and time without updating automatically.
    Third, if possible, I would also like it to be in italics.
    It would look something like this:
    +Left message 6/10/10 5:29 PM+
    I appreciate any advice people can give.

    Sure, that's because you specifically tell it to. Your script inserts a 'new field' which is analogous to Word's dynamic text objects (date, time, page number, etc.)
    Instead, what you want to do is insert an actual string of characters - sure, to you and I that string of characters might look like a date and time, but to Word it's nothing more than a series of characters.
    For that we can fall back on AppleScript's date features, specifically current date, like:
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
      tell selection
        type text text "Left message " & (current date as text)
      end tell
    end tell
    Note that current date as text returns a rather verbose form of the date. If that's too much for you there are alternate options, such as:
    short date string of (current date) & space & time string of (current date)
    which will look more like: "6/10/10 3:26:50 PM"
    But there is also a myriad of other ways (with seconds, without seconds, 12/24 hr, etc.) depending on what you want.
    Third, if possible, I would also like it to be in italics.
    I'll have to look at that one, unless someone else beats me to it.

  • Word 2008 document display window problem

    I have a macbook air, and having trouble with my 2008 word program. when I open a document (or new document) it will only open in a small window and will not allow me to make it larger. it just started doing this randomly.

    2008 is now a long time ago in terms of technology.  There have been two major releases of Microsoft Word for Mac since then: Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 and Microsoft Office 365.
    I don't know for sure whether Office for Mac 2008 runs on Mavericks, but I suspect this may be your issue.

  • How do I repaginate a PDF document in Word 2008 for Mac?

    I am trying to repaginate a PDF document made in Word 2008 for Mac, which I have uploaded to Scribd for public perusal.  Unfortunately, whatever I do to the settings for the document it always comes out in reverse order. (60 - 1 instead of 1 - 60)
    The problem is not with Scribd, as they just reproduce the document in the order in which it is sent.  Somewhere along the line, the pages are reordered. They are not numbered in the document.

    Hi,
    Try this AppleScript :
    It will create a new PDF file (the name will be "the original Name + _reverse.pdf"), it reverse the pages order.
    Open the "AppleScript Editor" application.
    Copy/paste this text in the window :
    set a_PDF to POSIX path of (choose file with prompt "Select a PDF file to reverse the pages order." without invisibles)
    do shell script "export VERSIONER_PYTHON_PREFER_32_BIT=yes
    /usr/bin/python -c  'import os, sys, Foundation
    from Quartz import *
    this_pdf = CGPDFDocumentCreateWithProvider( CGDataProviderCreateWithFilename( sys.argv[1] ))

       sys.exit(1)
    tName, ext = os.path.splitext(sys.argv[1])
    new_file = \"%s_reverse.pdf\" % (tName)
    cfstr = Foundation.CFStringCreateWithCString(None, new_file, Foundation.kCFStringEncodingUTF8)
    url = Foundation.CFURLCreateWithFileSystemPath(None, cfstr, 0, False)
    c = CGPDFContextCreateWithURL(url, CGRectMake (0, 0, 0, 0), None)

       page = CGPDFDocumentGetPage(this_pdf, page_number)
       r = CGPDFPageGetBoxRect(page, kCGPDFMediaBox)
       CGContextBeginPage(c, r)
       CGContextDrawPDFPage(c, page)
       CGContextEndPage(c)
    CGPDFContextClose(this_pdf)
    CGPDFContextClose(c)' " & quoted form of a_PDF
    Click on the "Run" button.
    Select your PDF file when the dialog is displayed.

  • Word 2008 crashes when I have several documents open

    I'm running word 2008, and whenever I have multiple documents open (some large) word seems to crash randomly after a while. One solution to your present issue is to consider NeoOffice or OpenOffice, either of which are nearly 100% MS compatible and do not suffer from these Word/Office-related issues that many MS Office/Mac users seem to have.
    Neo and Open Office are fully Leopard compatible and I have never had any issues with them. I use them on PCs and Macs. They are free downloads.

  • Word styles not appearing in Print Document Appearance dialog

    My custom list styles in Style Mapping.dot are not appearing in the Print Document Appearance dialog when I try to map CSS styles to Word styles.
    The styles do appear in the template when I open it in Word. They appear in the styles task pane whether I select "In current document" or "In use" in the Style Pane Options dialog in Word. The styles have the same name (such as "Bullet" or "Number") in Word as the CSS styles in RoboHelp.
    I tried saving Style Mapping.dot as .dotx, thinking that RoboHelp 8 might work better with the current template type, but no help. I tried adding the template to the same folder as the Normal.dotm template is in and opening it there. No improvement.
    Oddly, the built-in Word styles List, List 2, & etc and List Continue and its series appear in the Robo dialog, but the styles List Bullet and others in that series do not appear.
    I suppose I could modify the list styles that do appear in Robo and map them to my CSS list styles, but that feels a bit like a desperate kluge.
    Does anyone know what might be wrong, either with my Word template or with Robo, that might be causing what seem to be perfectly good Word styles to not present themselves for mapping?
    Thanks again,
    John

    Peter,
    I think your discussion of this problem could explain the situation and propose a workaround more simply than it does.
    Based on your article, I assumed that Robo displays only the built in Word list styles such as List and List Continue (since those were the only styles showing up in the style mapping dialog and since your example shows matching a Robo style named List Mapping to a Word built in style named List). I assumed I would have to match my Bullet style to a style named List in Word, and match the indented bullet style to List 2, and so on. The actual situation is that Robo, for some godforsaken reason that only idiots would understand, will not show a Word style if any numbering (bullets or numbers) is applied to it. That is, one does not have to avoid a class of styles called “List styles”, one only has to avoid applying numbering to the styles until later.
    Thus the workaround is to create the word styles (with names that match the Robo styles!) that contain every attribute you need EXCEPT the numbering. That is, I can link Bullet to Bullet and Number to Number and Indented Number to Indented Number, and so on and on, as long as I have all the Word styles in the template with their numbering set to None.
    Then after I generate the document, I can modify the styles to add the appropriate numbering, and voila!
    Currently scrolling the doc & modifying styles. Might be a glimpse of daylight.

  • Cannot open documents originally in Word 2008 for Mac and saved in Pages 09

    I have both Word 2008 for Mac and IWork 09. Working on long and complicated documents in Word, I had a number of problems with Word so that I decided to switch to Pages. I copied my documents into Pages, and saved them in Pages. Now, when I want to open them in Pages, I get a message that Pages cannot open those documents.The message says: the "file" couldn't be opened. The required index.xml file is missing.
    Again: original Word document, properly saved into Pages. the saved Pages file cannot be opened in Pages.
    What do I do wrong?
    Thanks.

    You haven't done nything. This problem has happened for people from time to time

  • Acrobat 9 isn't recognizing Word 2008 structure for bookmarks

    Hi -- I posted the following on the Acrobat User Community Forums Sunday and got zero response.  I talked with Adobe tech support today and was encouraged to post it here.
    Limping to the finish line of my voluminous PhD dissertation, broke and with just Acrobat 7, I created pdfs then found that Acrobat wasn't recognizing my Word structure for bookmarks.  I immediately reasoned it was because I had had to upgrade to Office 2008 for Mac and that I must need Acrobat 9.  So I used the remaining balance on a credit card to purchase the Acrobat 9 download, upgraded it, made a pdf of my Part 1 literature review and -- ta, da -- Acrobat 9 does not recognize my Word structure.  That is, when I go to Bookmarks and select Options menu, the option "New bookmark from structure" is not available.  My Word docs are all set up with heading styles that allow for automatic table of contents in Word.  I thought that was how it's supposed to work for creating bookmarks in pdfs.  I had created bookmarks manually for my maps and tables but, as noted, my dissertation is voluminous and so are the tables of contents -- way too long to have to input manually unless there is simply no other way.  Already way in the hole at the end of my lengthy doctoral work, it currently seems my $159 for the Acrobat 9 upgrade was all for naught.  My last expert support contract is long expired and I suppose I will have to lay out more precious bucks I don't have to get professional support for this issue.  I will be so grateful if someone on this forum can advise.
    Version note:  After installing Acrobat 9 I did the upgrade that popped up, and thought it said 9.1.3.  Not prompted to, I even restarted after the upgrade, yet when I check "About Acrobat" it tells me I have version 9.0.0.
    After posting the above Sunday I discovered that when I save as Acrobat 9 pdf from Word doc files, I get a pdf with the first couple pages in a separate file from the rest -- possibly split at a new section.  I wondered whether it was due to some error I might have made in Distiller while attempting to follow the confusing (for me) instructions for setting up Acrobat 9 for Mac.  While talking with the tech support fellow I saved a pdf from a docx file and it made only one pdf file like you would expect, but as previously noted, those also do not recognize my built-in Word header style structure.  I have my numerous dissertation text files saved in doc format at request of a doctoral committee member and don't want to risk having to reformat after conversion to docx just so I can make pdfs -- I'd rather just go back to using Acrobat 7 if Acrobat 9 can't read my Word structure -- the whole reason I dropped the bucks on it now, since I hope to upgrade Creative Suite ASAP, but can't afford to right now.  The tech instructed me to uninstall Acrobat 7 in case this may be the source of the problems, but I don't want to do that in case I still need to use it.  He gave me some work-arounds, including new preferences and a new user account with administrative access to see if Acrobat 9 will work properly unencumbered by Acrobat 7 on my main account.  Also I can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Acrobat 9 upgrade.  But frankly, I'm very dissappointed at the prospect of being waylaid for many more hours trying to get a product to work that doesn't seem to be living up to its claims -- at a time when I expected to be (finally) done.  Has anyone out there successfully created bookmarks from a Word 2008 for Mac style hierarchy?  Considering the time I've spent so far, I might as well have stuck with Acrobat 7 and just input the bookmarks manually.  I'm reluctant to even put more time into trying to use Acrobat 9 if I don't know for certain it's going to work, given the time I will likely have to spend ion inputting bookmarks manually.  Unfortunately, after downloading Acrobat 9 I trashed all the pdfs I'd made with Acrobat 7 to avoid confusion, so I'll even have to re-do those.  Grrrrrrrrr!  Any insights welcome.

    The problem is also with Acrobat Help, which does not say anything about this issue in the Help info for either Acrobat 7 or 9.  Had that info been in the Acrobat 7 Help text I would not have bothered to purchase the upgrade!!!!!!  I checked Help in both versions and all it says is that if the create "new bookmark from structure" option is unavailable, your document does not contain structure, or something to that effect.  Since my documents do contain structure, I had to assume from that Help text that there was some other problem.
    In short, there was no warning about this in either Help, nor in the system requirements info on the store page.  This appears to be false advertising to me.  You can see how I was fooled into purchasing the upgrade at a time when I was least able to afford it and now I'm not even using it.  I feel angry with Adobe -- not good customer relations.  Note that I live not far from their headquarters in Silicon Valley -- now I'll have to wince when I go past their headquarters in San Jose.  You think I won't forget this little sting at the end of a long doctoral process?  Makes me think again about those cheap alternatives to Creative Suite that I get notices about from Smith Micro.

  • Pdfmark code in MS Word 2008 doc doesn't seem to work properly to create Named Destination

    Hi all,
    I've been having trouble with creating Preview-compatible Named Destinations in Acrobat 9.x (see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/770470?tstart=0).  Distiller, on the other hand, appears to create compatible Destinations, so as a last-ditch effort, I tried to go back to my original source file (Microsoft Word 2008 document) to use Distiller's pdfmark functionality, to see if maybe I could finally get a PDF with Preview-compatible Destinations.
    Following instructions found elsewhere on this forum, I went into Word and inserted the following field into a test location in my document:
    PRINT "[ /Dest /testdest /View [ /XYZ null null null ] /DEST pdfmark"
    This field code is supposed to then cause a pdfmark to be inserted into the resulting PostScript and/or PDF files.  Distiller is supposed to understand this and turn it into a Named Destination called "testdest."  However, it doesn't seem to work - I don't see the pdfmark code in the PS file, and the PDF file doesn't have any Named Destinations in it.
    I'm using Acrobat 9.x on Mac OS X 10.6.5, so I tried this two different ways:
    1) Using the "Print to Adobe PDF" workflow (which replaced the "Adobe PDF Printer" from previous OS/Acrobat versions) - this automatically generates a PDF via (presumably) an API call to Distiller... and
    2) Using the "Print to Postscript" workflow to generate a PS file, which I then ran through Adobe Distiller.
    In neither case did I end up with a named destination in the PDF file, as I was supposed to.  In case #2, even the Postscript file didn't have a pdfmark embedded in it.  Thus, I'm assuming that perhaps this is particular issue may be a problem with MS Word 2008 rather than with Acrobat... but I'm hoping someone might have a clue as to how to fix it.
    I welcome ideas on how to get Word 2008 to properly output pdfmark code, so that Distiller will pick it up and properly embed a Named Destination into the PDF...
    Thanks in advance.
    (If anyone has ideas about the Preview-compatible problem, linked above, that would also be great!)

    You're suggesting that it was never fixed from Word 2004 to 2008?  Possibly.  I wonder if it's fixed in Word 2011?  Anyone know?  But is it really a Word problem, rather than a Distiller issue?
    I appreciate your offer, though I do have access to Word on Windows (2003, I think), so I could try Distilling there... I only worry about formatting, since there are minor differences (e.g. font kerning, etc.) between Mac and Windows that are subtle, but sufficient to create formatting issues for very long documents (e.g. pushing figures onto the wrong pages, etc.).  That would be a rather big problem.
    The question remains whether this is an issue with Word or Distiller, though... and whether it's fixed in Distiller X and/or Word 2011.
    Adobe, care to comment?
    I'd really love to find a proper Mac solution, if one exists... it would be rather a slap to Mac users if a solution doesn't exist.
