Word 2010 form objects

Hi,
I've started having problems with form objects (checkboxes and textboxes) in word documents recently. This started with office 2007 out of nowhere and has continued after updating to 2010.
If I open a document with form objects on a different computer, I can edit the form objects normally, but on this one specific computer, the form fields of the same document seem to be converted to image files (along with the accompanying
text) and lose their function (boxes cannot be checked, text fields cannot be edited).
If I go in design mode, I notice that the document's drop down lists are identified as form objects, but checkboxes and textboxes are not. I can add a functional checkbox through there but I cannot fix the pre-existing ones
Is there an option somewhere that would allow Word to recognize my documents form objects?
Thank you

Hi,
The issue may be caused by the MS14-082 Microsoft Office Security Updates for December 2014.
I've posted a sticky thread and you can refer to this link below and check if it is the cause:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/473b1980-56b3-49ff-be71-3a60c0db048b/form-controls-stop-working-after-december-2014-updates?forum=excel
If there is a different computer on which the form objects works as expected, the computer may have not been updated or has tried with the quick fix in the thread.
Microsoft understands the position our customers are in and we are working to find a solution besides a FixIt that can be deployed to remedy the issue.

  • Can not edit data labels in old graph chart objects using Word 2010

    In Word 2010, Insert object "Microsoft Graph Chart", go to Chart Options and check an item in Data labels, such as "Series Name", "Category Name" or "Value". Click OK, then double-click on a data label to edit its
    settings, or right-click on a data label and select "Format Data Labels..."
    This makes Word to crash. The only way I can get out of it is by using the Task Manager to kill Word.
    This happens in Windows 7 and Windows 8. This does NOT not happen in Word 2007 nor Word 2013, so it seems specific to Word 2010. All our clients have the same problem, this does not seem related to a specific workstation configuration.
    The Microsoft Graph Chart are the old charts used within .doc files. I have an application still generating those types of files and need to edit data label settings manually before processing the files with my application.
    Also note that anytime you edit a .doc file in Word 2010 and you see "Compatibility Mode" in the title bar, the Insert / Chart option from the ribbon inserts an old type chart (same as if you use Insert / Object / Microsoft Graph Chart), not the
    new Word 2010 charts. You then have the same problem editing the data labels.
    The underlying Activex seems to be the Chart.Exe file, the one I have installed is 14.0.7012.1000. You can see the version by double-clicking the chart and then look in the Help / About menu.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    As this is a configuration issue and not a programming issue I' moving your question to a more appropriate forum where you're more likely to find assistance.

  • Unable to insert pdf object into 64-bit Word 2010

    I have always been able to insert pdf files into word documents.  However, when I upgraded to the 64-bit version of Word, I started experiencing the below issue.
    My setup is: Windows 7 64-bit, Word 2010 64-bit, Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro v9.4.7.
    When I attempt to insert a pdf file into Word, I receive the following message:
    "The program used to create this object is AcroExch.  That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding.  To edit this object, install AcroExch or ensure that any dialog boxes in AcroExch are closed."
    I have researched this issue a great deal.
    Previously, I found a posting which specified some registry keys to delete.  I followed these directions and it worked.  But, after installing some updates, the issue is back and I am unable to find the post specifying the registry keys to remove.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Brandon

    Solution:
    Open Adobe Reader / Pro
    Go to Edit àPreferenceà General (LHS)àUncheck “Enable protected mode at startup”.
    Adobe Reader’s protected mode will be disabled
    Now try inserting Adobe document in Word, it will work.

  • Can Word 2010 populate fillable fields in a pdf fillable form?

    Is it possible to define fillable fields in a word 2010 document (name, address, city, state, zip, date) so that after a save to pdf and [Page] add existing file, an existing pdf fillable form will auto-populate same named fields in the added pdf fillable form?

    Thanks, George!  In the form I am creating, I ask respondents to identify a number of organizations that they work with.  For example, I ask "Please list up to ten organizations" and then I provide ten text boxes for organizations 1-10.  I then ask a series of follow up questions (radio buttons, check boxes, and rating scales) about each organization.  I would like to auto-populate the fields of those follow up questions with the names of the organizations that the respondents had written.  Does that make sense?  Will this require JavaScript?  My hope is to avoid complicated scripts that may give respondents technical problems with the form.  Thanks again,
    Andy

  • Word 2010 Document with embedded pdf objects

    Is it possible to convert a word 2010 document with embedded pdf object into a PDF without loosing the functiuonality of double clicking on the Acrobat icon and opening the (embedded) document?
    Thank you for your help.

    Pretty sure that the PDF will contain exactly what you'd get if you printed the Word document. There is no promise or expectation that objects will be "live".

  • Problem embedding pdf as object in Word 2010 64-bit

    Hi Dave,
    Maurice's thread was locked because he is using Office 2010 Beta, and his post is in the forum for Office Beta, since the Beta is past due, the whole forum is locked.
    Let's go back to your question.
    Have you installed the Office 2010 Service Pack 1? The service pack fixes many issues, you should try if you haven't.
    Download
    the Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 1 64-bit package now.
    I may to metion is that all I know the Office 2010 64-bit will work smoothly with Windows 7 64-bit, cause I'm using it for my daily work.
    So, the problem you met with mostly caused by the 3rd-party add-ins/services.
    Have you tried to open the document by holding the Ctrl key? This will open the document in safe mode, if you are able to do so, this will help us to narrow down the root cause.
    If it will crash even when you start it in safe mode, let's try to run a clean boot to check this issue. In a clean boot, lots of service will be disabled, if we wouldn't get problem in a clean boot, then we can enable the service little by little, then
    we can find out which service might cause this issue.
    For a detail instruction, you can refer to this kb:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
    Let me know the result, any questions, feel free to let me know.

  • Export/Convert Browser Based Infopath 2010 forms to PDF/Excel/Word

    Hi,
    Is there an OOB, way of converting browser based Infopath 2010 forms to PDF/Word/Excel.
    In case there isnt, can anyone please point me to a coded or a programmatic way of implementing the same.
    Soptik Dutta

    Hi Soptik,
    As far as I know, we can only save an InfoPath form as PDF/Excel using InfoPath Windows form application(rather than Broswer-based InfoPath).
    In this case, we can
    Open the library that save the forms
    Selec the form that is wanted to be PDF/Excel(Just select it, don't open it)
    Click the "inverse trangle", and then click "Edit in Microsoft InfoPath"
    In InfoPath, click "File" > "Save & Send" to save the form as PDF/Excel
    In this following thread, there are some code snippets, which will help you to export an form to PDF using custom code:
    http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/t/8746.aspx?PageIndex=1
    Please feel free to ask, if you have any more questions.

  • Unable to click on excel object within a word 2010 document

    Whenever a user tries to click an Excel Object within a Word 2010 document, the error "Microsoft Word can't start the application required to open this object. An error occured and this feature  is no longer functioning properly. Would you
    like to repair this feature now?". Clicking YES runs a repair on Office 2010, which does not resolve the issue. Clicking No gets you the following prompt: "The program used to create this object is Excel. That program is either not installed on your
    computer or it is not responding. To edit this object, install Excel or ensure that any dialog boxes in Excel are closed."
    Operating System: Windows 7, Office Version: 2010
    I've tried the following to resolve the issue, without success:
    Running the Office Repair as suggested in the prompt
    There are no open dialog boxes in Excel
    There are no COM add-ins or Excel add-ins active in Excel
    Starting Word in Safe Mode (clicking CTRL on open) does not resolve the issue.
    "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" is unchecked in Excel.
    I am able to edit this document with no problem on a machine running Windows 7 with Office 2007 or even office 2013.

    Hi,
    Do you see this problem if you start Windows in Safe Mode? You might want to have a try and verify result, some outside application may be preventing the OLE server/client connection.
    Have you ever checked your anti virus? Try to disable it and check again.
    Please make sure to install any updates to your system or Office products. It's important to make it up to date.
    Try to go to your task manager to kill any excel process and then try again.
    I have seen a case that user finally fixed this with a clean uninstallation and reinstallation, if issue presists with all above steps, you might want to do a completely reinstallation and then try again.
    Thanks,

  • I cannot insert a pdf object into word 2010 (64 bit).

    I've tried to insert a pdf file (acrobat 11 pro installed) into word 2010 (64 bit) and get a message along the lines of:
    "the program used to create this object is acrobat. That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding. To edit this object, install Acrobat or ensure that any dialog boxes in Acrobat are closed."
    Acrobat 11 Pro is installed and works fine for everything else.
    I've never had a problem with this before.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    I've already tried to repair acrobat and I've uninstalled and reinstalled it but makes no difference.

  • Acrobat pdfmaker com addin for word 2010 crashes when processing large files

    I am trying to use the pdfmaker com addin for word 2010 to create a PDF document. Whenever I try and create the document, the acrobat addin crashes word.
    I attempted to perform this on both an x86 and x64 machine and it failed both times at around the approximately same point (during/immediately after determining the bookmarks).
    The document is large (862 pages, 2425 bookmarks, 311 300dpi graphics, for a total file size of 49.2MiB)
    I can generate the PDF by just printing, but the whole point of using the pdfmaker is so that we don't have to perform 2.5K of manual cross-links.

    I recently ran into this with a bitmap in a 265 page document. I copied the bitmap to IrfanView and then back (I think that was the step -- I am already forgetting) and the copied it back. The problem went away. My student may look a bit more at the file -- I asked so I could give a more definitive comment here.
    The result I had suggests that it is a problem in WORD or the bitmap that WORD was using. Why WORD can deal with it and not Acrobat, I am not sure. However, when printing to the Adobe PDF printer there was not a problem, just with PDF Maker.

  • Acroexch error in Word 2010 x64

    Hello,
    I had this error with a user yesterday inside her Microsoft Word 2010 x64: "The program used to create this object is AcroExch. That program is not installed on your computer. To edit this object, you must install a program that can open the object". She basically was trying to insert a PDF document inside word and show the file has an icon.
    I tried a bunch of things to try and fix this problem, upgraded Adobe Reader X to the latest version (10.1.1), downgraded it to version 9, repaired the office installation, disabled the Adobe Acrobat protected mode, logged on my own profile on her computer, nothing would work.
    I finally was able to find her a workaround which was basically to create an empty adobe PDF document/icon inside her word and then import the document from there, that worked but it shouldn't be the way to do this. Anybody got any idea of what the next step would or what I should try?
    Thanks!

    i found this happened too on my user.
    i'm using :
    1. Microsoft Office 2010 x64
    2. Adobe Acrobat 10 Standard
    I read some articles said that you need to disable the "Enable protection bla bla bla" which is disabled on AA 10 Standard by default.
    At last it's solved after i uninstall the x64 Office 2010 and install the x86 Office 2010.
    I don't know why but its works.
    Hope its works to you too.
    Regards,

  • How to associate 1997-2003 Word doc files with Word 2010?

    Hi
    I am surprised not to be able to find out how to associate word 1997-2003 Word files with Wrod 2010. The object is to have Word 2010 open the document when I click on the document. Many of my Word 1997-2003 documents were created using Word 2010.
    When I try to use the associations function in Windows 7 I cannot find the Word program. Checking "Properties" on the Word Icon leads to a program called "CVH.EXE" which does nothing when I try to open doc files with it.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    From your description , I understand that you want to open the prior Word doc files  in Word 2010.
    You can refer to the KB article that resolve this issue:

  • Can I use Word 2010 with RoboHelp 8?

    Our company just upgraded to Word 2010 and, all of a sudden, when I try to generate printed documentation, RH gives me an error that I need Word 2000 or later. The OS is Windows XP Professional. Thanks!

    Hi Beth
    Nope, sorry. Word 2010 isn't compatible with RoboHelp 8. Only RoboHelp 9 is compatible with Word 2010.
    Choices are to upgrade RoboHelp or to downgrade Word.

  • Word 2007 VBA vs Word 2010 VBA - Macro Failure

    Hi,
    I have a macro that when run in Word 2007 VBA works fine (Takes a Word Template, an Excel Spreadsheet and produces PDF output of merged documents).
    Sub mergethem_be() '
    ' merge1record_at_a_time Macro
    Dim fd As FileDialog
    'Create a FileDialog object as a Folder Picker dialog box.
    Set fd = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFolderPicker)
    With fd
    'Use the Show method to display the Folder Picker dialog box and return the user's action.
    'The user pressed the button.
    If .Show = -1 Then
    For Each vrtSelectedItem In .SelectedItems
    'vrtSelectedItem is aString that contains the path of each selected item.
    'You can use any file I/O functions that you want to work with this path.
    'This example displays the path in a message box.
    SelectedPath = vrtSelectedItem
    Next vrtSelectedItem
    Else
    MsgBox ("No Directory Selected. Exiting")
    Exit Sub
    End If
    End With
    'Set the object variable to Nothing.
    Set fd = Nothing
    Application.ScreenUpdating = False
    MainDoc = ActiveDocument.Name
    ChangeFileOpenDirectory SelectedPath
    For i = 1 To ActiveDocument.MailMerge.DataSource.RecordCount
    With ActiveDocument.MailMerge
    .Destination = wdSendToNewDocument
    .SuppressBlankLines = True
    With .DataSource
    .FirstRecord = i
    .LastRecord = i
    .ActiveRecord = i
    docName = .DataFields("naam_mailing").Value & ".pdf"
    End With
    .Execute Pause:=False
    Application.ScreenUpdating = False
    End With
    ActiveDocument.ExportAsFixedFormat OutputFileName:=docName, ExportFormat:=wdExportFormatPDF, OpenAfterExport:=False, OptimizeFor:=wdExportOptimizeForPrint, Range:=wdExportAllDocument, From:=1, To:=1, Item:=wdExportDocumentContent, IncludeDocProps:=True, KeepIRM:=True, CreateBookmarks:=wdExportCreateNoBookmarks, DocStructureTags:=True, BitmapMissingFonts:=True, UseISO19005_1:=False
    ActiveDocument.Close SaveChanges:=False
    Next i
    Application.ScreenUpdating = True
    End Sub
    If there are 31 rows in the spreadsheet it produces 31 PDF documents named based on the Name field in the Mail Merge Template.
    However when I use the same Macro code in Word 2010, same mail merge template and same source excel, it produces the first PDF and then generates an error on the bolded line as if there was no longer a document available.
    Now I know I use ActiveDocument.Close before going through the loop again, but that seems fine for Word 2007.
    Am I missing something really obvious here?

    If Bernie's ideas don't work, single step thru the code. Does the first file get created properly?
    What is the error? If the file isn't created, then the ActiveDocument refers to the template which isn't good to close!
    I suspect there is a different behavior in how Word 2010 works and your VBA code probably needs to reflect that, though VBA is usually very good at providing backwards compatibility.

  • Invoking a SP 2010 Forms Application from MFC

    Hi,
    I have a SP 2010 forms Application which uploads data to a SharePoint 2010 site using Client Object Model. I need to invoke this program or run it when the user selects a menu option or click a button in an MFC based Application. I am not sure how this integration
    could be done from MFC to Windows Forms using Client Object Model.
    Kindly let me know or point me to a resource that exemplifies doing this.
    Thanks
    K.V.N.PAVAN

    Hi Pa1 Kumar,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to invoke a SharePoint form application in MFC application.
    In the MFC application, you can use C# class library(dll) then you can run the function in the form. So it is available
    run the form application in MFC project.
    Here are some detailed articles for your reference:
