Word 2010 freezes when opening a file from a share drive
Issue:
In our office, one user who is opening up a document from a share folder will experience Microsoft word freezing.
It doesn't display a not responding message
It doesn't lock up and close out automatically
It doesn't show any behavior typical of an issue, however doesn't allow any user input.
Can not type, select anything on menu bar, can not minimize, or close out without using task manager.
You can move the mouse around, however it appears to be frozen.
Everything else works, and nothing shows up in event viewer.
Issue is intermittent
I have been able to duplicate it with different documents, multiple times, and the only variable I can determine is that the files open in Compatibility mode.
For troubleshooting currently I've:
Repaired Office
Deleted the Word Data Registry Key
Deleted the Word Options Registry Key
Deleted the Normal.dot file
Restarted the Computer
Disabled Add-ons
Not sure what I am overlooking and appreciate any help and support.
Some additional information:
Office 2010 32-bit
Windows 7 32-bit
Hi,
How long does Word 2010 “freeze”? I guess it may cost too much time when you open Word 2010 in a shared folder, so that you think it “freeze”. Please wait for a few more minutes to check if Word 2010 can respond. Maybe it just delay of
response.
A similar case is here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ba5114e0-98dd-4b44-a078-373df8899048/word-2007-issue-slow-opening-files?forum=word
http://withinwindows.com/2008/08/31/taming-microsoft-word-2007s-file-associations-and-document-windows-part-one/
Then you can download this file to local disk and open it again. Able to launch Word 2010 quickly, there may exist anything wrong in communication with this shared folder. You may change path of shared folder. If it doesn’t work, we can
try to disable SMBv2.

If Word crash still appears on local disk, we can analyze crash file. To further help you, please upload this file into Onedrive and shared the link here. Also, you can try to analyze dump by yourself if you would like to:

ITunes freezes when adding music file from smb share
As title states, if I try to add more than 15/20 files to iTunes, it freezes and there's no turning back.
All my music is stored on my home-server (running Gentoo/Linux) and I have always used it with success until iTunes 10 came out.
The only thing I can do is to unmount the remote directory, open iTunes and remove the music.
I've already tried to upgrade to v10.0.1 but no luck so far.
Any clue?
Thank youThis has gotten to be a real problem for me as well. It freezes for about 40 seconds for each song I add. It even comes up as "not responding" at times in the force quit dialogue box. I rolled back to iTunes 9.2.1 as described here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2603684&tstart=0
Others have reported this fixing the problem, but it has NOT fixed it for me. I have my media on an SMB share and my library files were on the local hard drive. I tried moving the library files over to the SMB share, but it didn't improve anything.
I've been using "Activity Monitor" to look at what's going on and there's minimal CPU usage. But I am noticing something odd: the "Reads in" and "Writes out" figures are pretty much the same, which is what I would expect as I'm copying song files from my internal HD to the SMB share. But the "Data read" and "Data written" figures are very different. It's reading over twice as much data as it's writing. Either I'm misunderstanding what I'm looking at or something isn't right here. Anyone with more technical chops care to jump in?
I'd post a picture, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this.
I'm also wondering if there are corrupted plist files or other invisible files that can be deleted and rebuilt? I used "Filebuddy" to unhide the files and found a file in the iTunes folder called "sentinel". Anyone know what that is? -
I just logged on today after a week to my wifi network coming from apple time capsure and when trying to access time capsue data, it is showing "FIle not accessble". A;ll the files are showing "X" mark for each file type, any help regarding this is appreciated.
Thank you,
NarasimharaoReboot the TC..
Open the airport utility in windows and make sure you have guest access turned on to read and write.
Also make sure you are in the correct workgroup and all network names meet SMB standard.. short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. -

Can't open office files from my usb drive
Dear forum
Sins a few weeks ago i am not able to open office file from my USB-drive.
However i can copy the file to the desktop and than i can open them.
I have this problme only (for as far i know) with office files.
greetings YpkobaIf the drive is NTFS format, the Mac can read, but not write thiose drives natively.
So the issue may be that the temp file and the output file cannot be created on the same drive. -

Error when opening PDF files from SAP.
Hi Gurus
I have posted this question in ABAP Development section also. Please read the below text.
We are having a strange intermittent problem with Adobe Reader. When we try to open PDF files from SAP Frontend we get an error pop-up. The pop-up does not have any text. The title of the pop-up has "Adobe Reader". There is a blue question mark and an OK button.
This issue occurs few times a day in Windows Vista.
This issue does not occur in Windows XP.
Since past few weeks, we have been trying to find some error/warning/atleast some text in log files of SAP, OS, Adobe Reader, Registry entries, Event Viewer. So far, we have not found anything.
SAP is not able to help as this issue occurs intermittently and said when they tried, the issue did not occur. They made two attempts and in each attempt they tried 10 times to reproduce the issue. This issue occurs intermittently.
Environment
SAP R/3 4.7 EE SAP_Basis 620 Support Package 61
Windows Vista Enterprise
Adobe Reader 9.0 and Adobe Reader 9.1 (tried with both versions)
SAPGUI 710 Patch 12 (latest patch). It also occured in Patch 11.
Please suggest
Thank you
PavanNow I got to capture the screenshot, however not able to attach/upload here but it says:
'Reading Untagged Documents'
lets say i tried to open 6 page document then it said:
'This 6-page document is untagged and must be prepared for reading. While the document is being
analyzed, your assistive technology will not be able to interact with this application. '
then it asked for Reading options
then a checkbox for to confirm 'Always use the settings from the Reading Preferences (Do not show this dialog again)
then 'OK/START' and 'cancel' buttons
It seems, this is the problem with Adobe w.r.t Vista.
thanks

Excel 2013 hangs while trying to open a file from network share
Hi,
I am having issue opening excel file from a network share. it happens randomly, the file opens and hangs abruptly. Nothing happens after that ( we can only move the cursor), if we click on the excel sheet we get a beep sound. after i kill the excel process
and open it again ,it works fine.
Where did the member use the Excel file? Local disk, SharePoint, File server, or network shared disk?
Network shared file and sometime locally
Does the issue occur in the special file or every file?
it happens randomly and the whole excel freezes. i have to kill the excel session.
Which Office version is the file created? Excel 2013 or early? If it is XLS format, please try to convert to XLSX to test.
Network file server has office 2010 and the user is trying to open it in excel 2013
Does the file have some macros?
Yes, they have macros in some files
Does the issue occur recently? If it is, have you installed some programs or update before you encountered it?
it happened before too.
Do you get some error message when Excel crashed?
Yeah. Attaching the error message from event viewer. We get file corrupt errors and below too.
Please suggestHi Suren424,
Since your first image showed that "To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel." Please go to this path (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Action Center\Problem Reports)
to check the detailed information, and you might upload the screenshot or info here.
Then, please try the following methods and check if they are helpful:
1. File --> Options --> Advanced --> uncheck "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)"
2. Turn off "Protected View" --> (File –-> Options –-> Trust Center --> Protected View --> Uncheck all options
3. I notice that >>Network file server has office 2010 and the user is trying to open it in excel 2013 <<, it also might be caused by the Microsoft Office File Validation for Office 2010, please try to change setting in server with

Hey guys, need help.
I've been trying to figure out why everytime i delete files from my system drive, it doesnt show up in my trash bin.
Has anyone encountered the same issue?
Would appreciate any help guys.
Thanks.1. Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/.Trash
2. Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
3. The dialog should show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section. If that's not what it shows, click the padlock icon in the lower right corner of the window and enter your password when prompted. Use the plus- and minus-sign buttons to give yourself Read & Write access and "everyone" No Access. Delete any other entries in the access list.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above. -
Hi.
One of my users are having problem with old accounting files in Excel 2003 when opening Excel 2010.
The user experience that linked information is not being updated properly.
And suspects that it something do with Universal Data Connection .
How can an Excel 2003 spread sheet be converted to Excel 2010 spread sheet and still contain active links?
When the user is opening and converting the file as mention in your suggestion, on the common share on a common domain, the links "breaks".
we are not using SharePoint on our domain.
But when doing it on a local machine, the links does not "breaks".
Looking forward to get solved to this problem.
Thank you in advance.
Rgdsit sounds link, the links changed from relative paths to absolute path. You need to use absolute path in original file.

Random IE7 freeze when opening a PDF from Acrobat 9.1 Pro
We are having problems specifically with a PC with viewing PDF files in IE 7.0. Now when viewing PDF files
on our special inhouse loan funding site, the browser will freeze and eventually an error message will come up "Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close".
What I tried so far...
-Ran the Adobe update , it installed Acrobat Professional 9.1.1
-Did the Reset under the Advanced tab in Internet Properties.
-Re-enabled the adobe related IE plugins.
-Deleted everything from the users %temp% file.
-Rebooted PC
I've asked our web application vendor if we could use a much better browser such as Firefox, Chrome, or even try IE8, but they said that it's not supported.

Thanks for your help!Ok, well this is an specialized web based application. I tried opening the PDF's in a new window on my Windows 7 PC and I got them to open without the infinite loop like on a Windows XP machine.
Because that causes an infinite loop on Windows XP, we need the PDF to display in browser, which causes a conflict sometimes between IE and Adobe dll files.
So I've checked out a file that doesn't normally crash the IE/Acrobat9.4 user and checked the properties.
Application: LiquidOffice Form Designer
PDF Producer: DocuCom PDF Core Library
PDF Version: 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
File Size: 253.77 KB
Now here's the properties of a PDF that intermittently crashes IE:
Application: Acrobat PDFMaker 8.1 for Word
PDF Producer: Acrobat Distiller 8.1.0 (Windows)
PDF Version: 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
File Size: 272.14 KB
Remember I said intermittently. That's what's real difficult about the problem. That same file might open 10 consecutive times before crashing. OR it might crash on the first try. When things aren't consistently broken it's very hard to troubleshoot the issue since there is no concrete evidence of a single underlying cause. If it crashed every single time on that file, maybe we would say that its a corrupt file or there's an issue with the program that produced it. That's not the case here.
Good idea as to looking at the version. We could change the versions but we would need to open a request with the application developer, and updates to some of these forms takes weeks for them to integrate. -
Acrobat pdfmaker com addin for word 2010 crashes when processing large files
I am trying to use the pdfmaker com addin for word 2010 to create a PDF document. Whenever I try and create the document, the acrobat addin crashes word.
I attempted to perform this on both an x86 and x64 machine and it failed both times at around the approximately same point (during/immediately after determining the bookmarks).
The document is large (862 pages, 2425 bookmarks, 311 300dpi graphics, for a total file size of 49.2MiB)
I can generate the PDF by just printing, but the whole point of using the pdfmaker is so that we don't have to perform 2.5K of manual cross-links.

AppPath=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\WINWORD.EXEI recently ran into this with a bitmap in a 265 page document. I copied the bitmap to IrfanView and then back (I think that was the step -- I am already forgetting) and the copied it back. The problem went away. My student may look a bit more at the file -- I asked so I could give a more definitive comment here.
The result I had suggests that it is a problem in WORD or the bitmap that WORD was using. Why WORD can deal with it and not Acrobat, I am not sure. However, when printing to the Adobe PDF printer there was not a problem, just with PDF Maker. -
More often than not when I open a pdf file from within Firefox the file fails to open (often you get an error message. "there was an error processing page. A file I/O error has ocurred"). Sometimes the file downloads but is only white pages. I usually then right click the file and save it to my desktop but this is cumbersom!
Ok two things based on the crash report and the steps you took right before the crash:
# Try to disable scrolling acceleration and restart Firefox. Does it continue to crash?
# Try Safe Mode and do the same task as above with email and the pdf [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]
# Also pdf.js may be helpful to read pdfs in the meantime. You can change the default reader in the Preferences/Options > Application menu of Firefox.
# Try to clear out the downloads folder and update flash to version 14 (that should do it)
IF it crashes again please also provide the new crash signatures and we can take a look :-) Sorry for the crashing :-( -
Premier elements 10. Quits when opening "get files from..."
How do I fix this issue: APE10 open, sets up a new project, but when I try to "get files" from "files an folders" it quits.
Thanksluiscue
There is a serious known issue with Premiere Elements 10 on a computer that uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. The answer to date has been to roll back
the driver version to about May 2013. There is an Announcement at the top of this forum about all this, and much more information to be found elsewhere
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE10: NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
I am not sure if an automatic update of the driver version may have taken the driver version from the much older date to current version which is triggering your present situation.
I am strictly an Elements Windows user so I am not sure if the following NVIDIA GeForce 9400 M driver version would work in your Mac computer environment.
GeForce 320.49 May 23, 2013. The following is the NVIDIA GeForce 9400 M but listed on Windows
NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search
The other consideration is the use of Premiere Elements 10 OS10.10.2. I have not seen any reports confirming that Premiere Elements 10 is compatible with OS 10.10.2.
But then again, you report "It worked well 3 months ago. First time it has done it." Where you using the same operating system then as now?
You can also factor into all this the usual drill considerations...
a. Are you working with a pen and tablet device instead of mouse?
b. Does the problem exist with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
c. Have you deleted the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file
Users/Owner/Libraries/Application Support/Adobe/Premiere Elements/10.0
d. Is the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer?
Please review and consider and then we can discuss this further.
Thank you for the follow up.

Add On..Since I am strictly an Elements Windows user, please indicate anywhere in the above where the question would not be applicable to Mac.
