Word 2013 Crashes randomly
Craziness ! This is such a random issue and has been such a pain that we actually reformatted the entire PC attempting to fix the problem. It has been ongoing for about 1.5 months now and we cannot seem to find a resolution. Below is a email from the customer
today:
"Before I left I was trying to work on a Trust document and was having the same old problem – “word is not working”. Today, I tried again – same thing. Can you remote in or do you want me to send you the file (which would as usual be confidential).
If you can remote in, the file is temp\closedfiles\**** – there are several. The latest that I tried saving has 0909. However, feel free to use any of them, because all of them have the same problem. This is the one that I copied and tried saving
to a new form – same result. Any suggestion would be more than helpful. Thanks."
Below is the application log:

I had a document that was 11x17 inch with few sections. I tried to reduce the page size for whole document to 5.5x8.5 size and Word 2013 crashed.
I removed all sections and removed all headers and footers and still it crashed.
I then saved document as .doc extension instead of .docx and then it worked.
When I again saved that as .docx again, it crashes again. I can no longer open the document in Word 2013 as it says that "Word has stopped working".
I can open same fine in Word 2010 or Word 2007 on Mac but not on Word 2013. All other docs open fine except this one.
I tried all suggestions such as rename normal.dot, remove registry data but it did not work.
This is what I see in event log.

First, please create a new document and open it in Word 2013 to check if it works properly. If it works fine, you can copy entire content of that document into the new one.
If it doesn't, we can try these steps to check if it is helpful to you.
1. Make sure that all Office applications have updated to the latest version.
2. Open Word in safe mode (press win +r, type Word.exe /safe) to remove conflict with other 3rd-party add-ins.
3. Repair Office 2013 from Control Panel > Programs and Features.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

Word 2013 crashes when I open a second document
Hello,
I have installed Word 2013 a few days ago. Opening a document works fine, word starts without a problem. But as soon as I try to open a second document, the whole program crashes. And when I try to open the recovered document, it crashes as well.Hi,
This issue seems to be related to add-ins.
Try disabling all add-ins, test if the issue persists:
1. Open Word 2013.
2. Click on File -> Options -> Add-ins.
3. Under Manage select -> COM Add-ins.
4. Click on GO options beside Manage, uncheck all the add-ins and click
OK.
Try to open Word and check if it works fine.

Word 2013 crashes when doing a save as pdf
Word 2013 will crash when doing a 'save as' pdf
It sounds like an item in HD/Library/Contextual Menu Items. Drag the contents of that folder to the desktop and test again. If that sorts it put the items back one at a time to find the culprit..
If that's not it, go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and do the same.
Open "Console" in your Utilities folder. From the Sidebar choose: Log
Files >> CrashReporter >> "~/ Library Logs" >> Preview and paste the contents here for the latest Preview crash and maybe we can figure what's going on.

Word 2013 crashing opening Microsoft Word 97-2003 Document
Hi
I am having a major problem with a large number of Word docs which have been copied to my file server. The docs are in Microsoft Word 97 – 2003 format and open fine with Office 2007. I recently rolled out Office 2013 to a department. When they try and open
these docs by double clicking the file, the Word splash screen with status "Starting..." opens with animated dots but stays in this state. I have left this for over 10 minutes but it doesn’t open. I end up having to close the splash screen using
the top right corner cross but if I check in task manager the task remains eating up 25-30% of the CPU - I have to kill the task from here. I have tested this locally and in RDS where majority of users work from hosted office sessions and the problem is evident
in both. The major problem is that RDS server CPU can reach 100% if a couple of users run into the problem.
Going back to the issue. If I open up a blank instance of Word 2013 first and go File - Open and browse to the file, if I choose “Open and Repair” the file opens with “Errors detected”:
"Drawn Objects and Text Boxes 1"
If I select "go to" it goes to the Footer/headers - There is nothing in the header/footer that looks like it is causing an issue. If I now save the file either as 2003 or docx and close, the next time I try and open (double click) the file opens
in compatibility mode or normal mode no problem. It seems strange Word is not able to automatically open/detect and repair anything it doesn’t like.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can work around this?
ThanksHi,
Does this happen to all 97-2003 Word files?
Word 2013 now has lots of updates compared with earlier version of Word, lots of features have been updated. Use Word 2013 to open documents created in earlier versions of Word (Word 97-2003 format), you will probably encounter unexpected problems,
expecially for those heavily formatted files.
We would suggest you to convert your document to the Word 2013 file format, then you will be able to access the new and enhanced features in Word 2013.

Word 2013 Crashes When Opening A Word 2007 Or Older Document
I have this issue on every computer in our office. An outside source is sending in Word documents in docx format. Each time we try to open one of the files, Word with error out and close.
My wifes company uses Office 2010 and she can open the documents without any errors. We use Office 365 Pro Plus 32-bit.
Has anyone see this before.
I have disabled all add-in on my machine and started Word in safe mode. All the same.
I am able to open it in Protected Mode or in the option to Open and Repair. An outside source is sending in Word documents in docx format. Each time we try to open one of the files, Word with error out and close.
What does the error say? Have you ever checked the event log? Anything useful there?
(If you would like us to help analyze the logs, you can send the log file to this email account:
[email protected] and inform us here. Please use the link of this thread as the subject.)
As far as I know, when a file is opened in Protected View, all active file content, such as ActiveX controls, add-ins, database connections, hyperlinks, and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros, is not enabled.
Since you are able to launch these files in Protected Mode, probably some of the mentioned file content in these old version of files are causing the issue. You might want to troubleshoot on this aspect, check whether these files contain any of the mentioned
content. Remove them, then try again, or have a check with a plain text document from the same source and see if issue persists.

TypeKit Fonts Crashing Word 2013
Hi All,
I have a user that is having some issues with Word 2013 crashing on start up after turning on TypeKit synced fonts in the Creative Cloud preferences.
Not all word documents crash when the TypeKit sync is on but it seems to make Word 2013 quite unstable (especially with 97-2003 .doc formats).
The user is currently on Windows 8.1 Pro using Office 2013 Home and Business and Adobe Creative Cloud apps: Acrobat Pro, Indesign, Photshop and Illustrator.
*Please note the word documents that crash on start up are not referencing any Adobe font packages.
Kind Regards,
BenWe are having the same issue. Currently searching for a solution. In our instance, it is not only word, but Excel and Powerpoint as well. Launching any of the applications and then logging out and logging in corrects the problem, however this is not a solution because we are setting up these computers in a lab environment.

There is not GUI error message. Office was freshly installed. In the event log there are only the normal messages from Security-SPP. Are there other source of logging that could hint in the proper direction?Hi,
Since the issue isn't related to Add-ins, please perform a clean boot to determine whether background programs are interfering with Word:
1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click
Search.
2. Type msconfig in the search box, and then tap or click
msconfig.
3. On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click to select the
Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click
Disable all.
4. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click
Open Task Manager.
5. On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click
Disable.
6. Close Task Manager.
7. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click
OK, and then restart the computer.
More information about clean boot can be found in this kb below:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
You will also need to read the section "What is next when I have a clean boot environment?" to troubleshoot the problem.
As you mentioned, if you find any threads that indicates the updates aggravate the problem, would you please share the thread link with me?

Ever since I downloaded the Acrobat Pro 11.0.09, the PDF Maker has not worked, but instead causes MS Word 2013 to crash. I cannot find the cause or the solution.
forumnotifierOK I will try to elaborate this time with pictures so it is clear what I am asking and what the issue I am facing is.
The specific option I want to be able to use from within the Adobe Acrobat Pro user interface is
File\Create\Batch Create Multiple Files
When I select that menu item a floating tool bar thing pops up that I can drag and drop files onto.
If I drag excel or powerpoint documents onto it and press OK it converts them fine. If I drag MS word documents into it the documents appear in the list but when I click OK it says no files processed.
In the process of troubleshooting I also tried using the Add Files button. That is when I discovered that MS word documents (*.doc, *.docx) are not showing up in the list of supported file types.
The same thing happens when I try converting a single file using the File\Create\Create PDF From File menu item. Just like above the MS word documents do not show up in the list of supported file types.
Looking in my registry entries as suggested by the article linked to by one of the posters above I can see both *.doc and *.docx types registered in the correct place.
Unless I can use the batch convert command as intended by the time my trial period runs out in 13 days I cannot justify buying this software. If converting the documents one at a time was acceptable I would just use Save As PDF from within MS Word which works just fine. I need the batch convert function so I can convert my whole library of word documents to PDF at once.
Any further assistance greatly appreciated!

Any ideas why it is crashing?I'm still suffering the same issue. I am also running Word 2010 SP2.
My brother installed on his system which is Windows 7, Office 2010 and it works fine.
I have now gone back to Actobat X and it's working.
The issue doesn't occur in Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.
Adobe have not been helpful at all. I am seriously getting the mind of asking for my money back. -

Word / SP 2013 crash when saving a document
Hi,
I have been having an issue at my organization with SharePoint Foundation 2013 and Word 2013. Basically when a user clicks save to upload their changes to SharePoint the document closes and word opens a blank document. All changes that the user made have
been lost and there is no recovery document. This does not happen on every save which makes reproducing the error rather difficult and tracking it down in the logs is almost impossible!
The SharePoint server is running on a Server 2008 VM and is using SQL server 2012. The server has 1 vCPU and 12GB of RAM. On average we only have 5 or 6 people using SharePoint at any one time.
Has anyone had this issue and if so, suggest a course of action? I can supply more information if required.
Your assistance is appreciated! The only 4 suggestions that I have based upon the current information:
* clean all kind of caches. %temp% & temporary internet files etc. (maybe you can use ccleaner from pirisoft to perform this action.)
* Ensure that your installed all updates. (server side incl. SharePoint updates and client side including office updates)
* are you perhaps using Office 2013 the 64 bits version? (from client side perspective) Maybe you can try the more stable Office 2013 32 bits. (I'm not talking about the OS but the Office version.
* and check it in a vanilla installation ensures you that you know it is a OR a SharePoint OR a client side problem

Excel 2013 and Random Excessive Processor Utilization
Every now and then (about once per day), my Excel 2013 will randomly seize one of my 8 threads and max it out. My PC is quad-core and hyper-threaded, so it shows up in task manager as 8 cores. When Excel seizes, its UI still seems to function
properly... I can input data and format cells, etc. But even when my machine should be idle, I'll notice that my laptop fan is running at the maximum. When this happens, a quick look at task manager shows me that "excel.exe *32" is consuming
13% of my processor utilization (100% divided by 8).
If I close Excel, the process typically will quit, but every now and then I must forcibly end the process even after Excel has appeared to close (the UI almost always closes fine, but sometimes even after the UI has closed the fan still runs high and there
is still an excel.exe *32 process hanging out in my task list, consuming exactly 13% of the CPU until I end the process).
I notice this more often when editing network files via VPN, but every now and then it will happen with local files, too.
Perhaps this is an issue with multi-cores and memory locks? I'm tempted to permanently set the processor affinity for excel.exe to see if this alleviates the issue...
Do you have any suggestions?Seems that Excel crash issue only happen for a single user in your site, and you've tried some of troubleshoot steps already. Please continue to perform the following method which mention in the
KB2758592 o narrow down the issue:
Method 1: Verify/install the latest updates
Method 4: Check whether your antivirus software is up to date or is conflicting with Excel
Method 7: Test by using a new local or network profile
Method 9: Repair or reinstall your Office program

Macbook Pro Mid-2010 Crashing Randomly with Mavericks?
Hey gang,
I recently upgraded to Mavericks right after purchasing a used Macbook Pro mid-2010. However, more frequently, the laptop has been crashing randomly, and it does not matter which programs/apps are running when it does. Below is the latest crash report. I am looking for help to avoid the nonsense of having to deal with the Genius Bar if at all possible.
If anyone could help me out and lend a helping hand as to what's causing the problem and how to fix it, I would be eternally grateful! Thanks so much.

Then shut down my computer and went to bed. Woke up this morning and within five minutes, the computer crashed again. Here's the new report:
(P.S. I read that this model of Macbook Pro has a known problem with GPU Panic -____-)
Thanks for the help so far! I really appreciate it.
