"Word Art" in appleworks 6

Im running Appleworks 6 on an emac...doing some Hw for a Computer class that requires to do tasks in Word on windows. Yet up to this point Ive been able to do everything I need within my Document but cant seem to find the word art feature? Does appleorks have one? where can it be found? Thanks in advance to anyone who answers it, time is of the essence.

AppleWorks does not include a "Word Art" function similar to the one in MS Word.

  • HT1338 I have Microsoft for Mac 2011 on my OSX Lion. I want to take advantage of Word Art and be able to flip text to print on fabric. Can't seem to find how to do this... Help, please!

I need to make t shirts for a family reunion.  I cannot reverse the text (so the letter will print on a T shirt correctly). I have tried everything including u-tube videos. I could swear I have seen graphics (such as various banners on Word Art as shown on u tube videos) on one of my toolbars but cannot locate them now (would like to use them also).
Is anyone familiar with Microsoft for Mac 2011?  I also have an HP Photosmart printer that should be able to reverse print but that too is defeating me but I don't give up...
    Thanks for any suggestions!

For any object (photo, WordArt, etc.), right click on the object and choose Format Shape. Choose 3-D Rotation in the left column. In the X field, type 180 and press tab. Click OK to accept the change. Here, I reversed some WordArt text.

  • Converting MS word & excel to Appleworks?

I have just purchased Appleworks 6.2.9 in hope of being able to leave MS Office for Mac:2004 behind. To my dismay Appleworks does not convert MS Office 2004 documents. Is there a solution for this? Will purchasing MacLinkPlus do the trick? It looks like it can only read the Appleworks 6 documents. To me this means that it will not translate to Applework 6. My goals is to convert all my word and excel files to Appleworks 6 to edit and use. They are mainly template types that I use as forms. I just don't want to purchase more software and find it doesn't do what I expect.

Variations on this question have come up quite a bit lately. Microsoft has made many changes to the file formats since the translators in AppleWorks were released in 2001. For the past year I haven't been able to open any Word file with AppleWorks, a problem quite a few users here have posted, too. You can find some useful information in this thread.

  • DW-CS3 Version of Word Word-Art

I mocked-up a web-page layour in Word XP that I now want to
re-produce in DW-CS3. The Design includes left and right columns
that contain a vertical stacking of individuals' names rendered
using Word's Word-Art. Is there a similar capability to Word-Art in
DW-CS3? Any text "rotation" capabilities in DW-CS3? I know of the
Flash Text feature but I'm hoping there is a more efficient way to
treat a large number of names. Eventually, I want the
columns/stacks of names to scroll vertically, stopping when a
visitor highlights a name when in turn generates a pop-up window
with limited information on that person.

    No.
    Thankfully. ;o)
You'll have to create all of those names in a graphics
    editing application
like Fireworks and then export them as images, or, as you
    said, use Flash.
But data like this really should be left as raw text IMHO and
    just styled
    nicely with CSS.

  • I have a title on my site I did in MS Word Art. It displays fine in IE on an XP system, but the same system with firefox 3.6.17 it shows a rectangle box. The same on my windows 7 laptop with FF4.

I have a website standing-tall.com. On the home page half way down below where it says "Please take time to watch this presentation." is a link that says All Hands on Deck. That link was done in Frontpage with Word Art. It displays fine with my XP system in IE, but not firefox. I don't know if it needs and add-on, plugin or what. Please help.

The '''bgsound''' tag isn't compatible with much except for Internet Explorer. <br />

Also, FrontPage isn't the best tool for creating webpages, it tends to code for older versions of Internet Explorer instead of "standards compatibility" mode.

  • Word Art crashing microsoft office

I recently became a MAC user, I am very excited, however have one large problem. A lot of my PC microsoft files have either word art or just regular boxes and things in them. Whenever I open one of these files, or even try to add word art to a new file it crashes the program running. This is in word, excel and powerpoint.
Any suggestions would be great! Thank you in advance,

Mac Book Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It appears Office X didn't have the same problems: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/officex/using.aspx?pid=usingofficex&t ype=howto&article=/mac/LIBRARY/howto_articles/officex/ofclipgal.xml
The general support page is here (in case you can dig up with something better) : http://www.microsoft.com/mac/support.aspx
One more thing, rather two: a) Does saving as .RTF help?, b) Did you try opening them with OpenOffice or NeoOffice? Both are originated from Sun's Star Office but they might do the work. Both are freeware and can be found at MacUpdate, Versiontracker etc.

  • Does Pages have something equivalent to MS Word's "Word Art"?

Does Pages have something equivalent to MS Word's "Word Art?"

Thanks but I mean stylized lettering like those below, not clip art.

How can I do wording in a circle like you do in word art in microsoft

  • Use MS Word templates with Appleworks?

Here's the problem. My MS Word won't work with 10.4.3. It starts up and immediately shuts down when I choose a blank doc, a template, or a template that I created. I've reinstalled the 10.1.6 update several times to no avail.
I have created 5 templates for MS Word and wonder if there is a way to use them with my Appleworks Word Processor? I don't want to spend any more $$ on MS Word upgrades (I'm using MS Office X) and if I don't have to, don't want to have to redo the templates in Appleworks. I also have iWork if it would be easier to use that (altho I find Pages a bit less than intuitive). Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Answer my own question. After trying to use appleworks with the ms word personal templates without success (whether only my fault or an impossibility), I decided to reinstall ms office. After the reinstall of ms office x and the reinstall of the 10.1.6 updater, it works ok but have lost the personally created templates. Since I have a backup of my os drive with apps, I copied the templates over from there and they work......for now. Now I have to reinstall ms office x and updater on the backup drive and then copy the templates over to there. Wonder if I saved any time from re doing the templates......but at least ms word now seems to work.

  • Opening Word documents with Appleworks

I often receive Word documents as email attachments (though my hotmail account). I can download these Word documents to my desktop but when I click on them to open them I get an offer to purchase MS Word (which I do not have). I would like to be able to simply open the Word documents with Apple works--and I am hoping I can just click on them and have that happen automatically. But it doesn't. I have tried opening Appleworks and going into the wordprocessing program and then opening the Word document through that, but it only is successful part of the time. What can I do? I would like to have these Word douments open automatically in Appleworks but every time I click on them (i.e., their icon on my desktop) I get that advertisement from Microsoft asking me to buy Word. Is this ad blocking a normal function of Appleworks that would otherwise allow me to open Word documents with a click? And in any case, how can I proceed?

The ad for Word is almost certainly being tacked on through or at Hotmail (taglines or adware from Hotmail? Hoodathunk .....) ; it sure isn't coming from AppleWorks or from anything on your own system, unless you have that demo copy of Office still lurking somewhere. I suppose it could come from that, somehow.
Assuming you can get a clean attachment downloaded to your Desktop from Hotmail, the procedure for having what you want to happen automatically is fairly straightforward and, really, has nothing at all to do with Appleworks. Try the following:
--> Select (highlight) one of those downloaded .doc files from Word, then
--> use the Finder's Get Info command (⌘-I). In the window which appears,
--> see the "Open with" section, and set it to AppleWorks.

  • Opening MS WORD files in Appleworks

I never bought MS Word during the 30 day trial. Now it looks like I'll be getting a bunch of Word documents sent to me in the near future.
I read somewhere here that Word files can be opened in Appleworks. I've had no success with it so far. Could someone please tell me how to do that?
Or, If I do have to buy MS Word For Mac, is there a cheap way to do it? Like an old version or something other that the $250+ they're asking for the new one?
Imac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.25 GHz 512GB RAM 80GB HD with 120 GB XTNL.

You certainly don't need to buy Office. There are several options available.
TextEdit that is included with OS X can open most Word files.
One of the free Office clones - NeoOffice or Open Office for any Office file. Also, AbiWord, but only for Word files.
icWord from Panergy Software - not free but the trial is fully functional. icWord also has the ability to save as AppleWorks. There is also icExcel. These are approximately $20 (US) each or $30 for both.
Pages, part of iWork, can open Word files.

  • Word processing software:  Appleworks, NeoOffice / saving as Word.doc

I would love some advice on word processing software.
My daughter is a college student who sometimes needs to e-mail her papers to a teacher (in Word). She does not have Word, and we're not buying it. In the past, she's used the school computers, but that's not always practical. She has a Mac, with Appleworks on it. If she works in Appleworks and saves a paper in Word format, will it really open okay in Word, with footnotes, images, etc. intact? (Obviously, she doesn't want to get a lower grade for something so silly and avoidable.) I think I have seen on this forum somewhere a mention of trouble with footworks in Appleworks docs saved in Word format.
Also, if she were to save as a Word doc, which format would be the best to use: Word Mac 6; Word Mac 98; Word Windows 6; Word Windows 97, 2000, XP 2002?
She also needs to do simple tables sometimes, which it looks like Appleworks can do. Do these translate well?
Also, I have looked at NeoOffice and OpenOffice online. It looks like one of those would be a possibility for her, too. Apparently, documents can be saved as Word files in those programs. Does anyone know if they are any better than Appleworks for this purpose? (For instance, with footnotes?)
From the NeoOffice Website: "You can exchange documents with Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org users, even on other platforms!" Does that mean a Word file will open and display okay, if you get one e-mailed to you? And that your own Word file will open and display okay on the other end? (I know this is not about Appleworks, but someone might know. . .)
Looking through this forum, I have seen software for opening Word documents (icWord), but my daughter needs to be able to (reliably) go both ways--saving and opening.
    Thanks much in advance!

Powerbook G4; Intel iMac 20inch Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Overall, I'd concur with Ken.
AppleWorks/Word conversion does have difficulties with tables and footnotes.
Neo Office has better compatibility with MS Office, and runs without installing additional software on your Mac. But it's a Java implementation of an earlier version of OpenOffice.org, and is missing a few recent improvements. It's also a bit slow, although in some uses this is not a problem.
OpenOffice.org runs in an Xwindow (no relation to MS Windows), and requires installation of X11, Apple's Xwindow implementation. I haven't used it, but expect that it is a more compatible implementation than NeoOffice.
Both are free to download and use. If nothing else, one or the other is useful to see how successful the AppleWorks > Word translation of a particular file has been.
The closest compatibility will be achieved with MS Windows (Mac), of course. If your reasons for not purchasing MS Windows are strictly economic, you mmight want to rethink them. As a student, your daughter is elegible to purchase the Teacher and Student edition at a much lower price than the retail version. This version is operationally identical to the retail one. The largest difference is a licencing one—student/teacher licencees are not eligible for reduced price upgrades to the next version. They are, though, eligible to purchase the next Student & Teacher edition provided they still qualify at that time.

  • MS office Word doc to Appleworks

I have had MS Office on my Emac for the past two years. I have decided I want to go to AppleWorks. I can't seem to find information on how to do this.
    Jim

    Peggy,
    Thanks.
Since my earlier post I've answered my own question. Yes, indeed, you can persuade the earlier MacLink AW translators to open a Word document regardless of its parentage: Give the file a new identity as a "Microsoft Word Mac 98 Document."
ResEdit is a handy tool, if you don't mind fooling around with basic file attributes. Until you get the hang of it, make a copy of the Word doc and work on the copy. Or just play it prudently and always make a copy first.
Launch ResEdit (freeware at http://www.tgtsoft.com/prod_rb.php) and open the file. It will ask if you want to create a resource file, and it's a good idea to say yes.
Go to File|Get Info for ... (this file) to open the attributes dialog.
Probably the Type will be WDBN and the Creator MSWD.
Change Type to W8BN, File|Save, Close, and presto! it's a "Microsoft Word Mac 98 document." Launch AppleWorks, File|Open All Available, and open the file.
Save it as Appleworks, or whatever. My version of MacLinks AW will save it as Word 6 (and earlier) for Mac, and WordWin 7.0 (and earlier). I don't have MS Office for Mac, so I can't test the result.
You may need to do some reformatting. My docs looked pretty clean in Appleworks.

  • Word processing on Appleworks

I just bought iWorks primarily for it's word processing. I'm disappointed because I can't find any "Word Count" feature. Does the Appleworks word processor have a "Word Count" feature? Otherwise, what is better, worse, or just different about the Word Processors on these two programs?

Thanks anyway, Peggy, but please cancel my message above. I just found the word count in Pages but it wasn't easy. It's buried under the "Info" subhead of the "Document" portion of the "Inspector" section of the text tool lineup at the top of the text screen. Why can't it simply be in the File or edit menu?
In this connection as a new Mac owner after using Windows for some yearts, I have a serious beef. The Mac User Guide which comes with a new computer is a joke. Apple seems to think that every new customer must already be a rocket scientist who needs no help at all from the start. I can find some guides for the OXS operating system and its various programs in the Help sections or on the Apple website but they often number in the hundreds of pages making it impractical to download for careful reading offline. There should be one comprehensive User Guide for dummies which covers everything available in print form for new Mac users. It would solve a lot of grief for new users.

I can not do a fucntion that I have done many times before. After opening Data scource I get a screen for data convert. I use to get a set up screen. Then set up label and merged. Any help out there?

As far as I know we where never allowed to merge datas from Word in AppleWorks.
First thing to do is to import your Word datas in an AppleWorks database.
