Word doc to Pages to Word doc conversion problems

I imported a word doc into pages on my iphone.
I edited the document on my phone, then exported it back to word format, emailed it to myself and opened it on my macbook in word again.
Now there are some weird spell check errors happening (eg it doesn't like the word 'you' and suggests all kind of rubbish) and the formatting of the apostrophes is all wrong.
Is there a quick fix for this? My document is 102,000 words long, I don't like the idea of having to redo the apostrophes one by one...

I'd recommend you use Word for Mac for such stuff.
Before buying that, you could try the free Open/LibreOffice and see if the result is satisfactory.
If you already have Pages on your machine, just do File > Open and see how it looks and works.

  • How can I import .doc word files into Pages from Word 2008 for Mac?

I find that if I try to insert a .doc document from the earlier version of Word for the Mac, it works fine, but if I try to insert a doc which has been saved in "compatibility mode" as a .doc in Word 2008, Pages doesn't recognise it. I didn't even know there was any difference in these two kinds of .doc
    Does anyone know a workaround?

I can open them as I go using an intermediate app (Word for choice as presumably it preserves more of the formatting than TextEdit), then I can just copy and paste the text into my Pages doc. In my particular case this is tolerable, but I have a friend who I assist sometimes who I know has a lot of these docs and so I wanted to find a solution for him before he asked me!
It just seems quite different from what Apple appear to be offering... I started this thread really to see if anyone knew the cause of this anomaly, which seems to be a fairly small bug in Pages. Anyway I think I will not get any joy trying to understand the difference between the two kinds of .doc documents (in OS9 I would have guessed it was the 8-character file signature that differed, but I don't think this works in OSX) so I will stop wasting bandwidth and set this to "answered".

  • Transfering docs between pages and word

I recently purchased a macbook air to finish writing a manuscript that I had been writing in word on my macbook pro.
It was automatically transferred into pages and now I can't get it back into word.
    Help!

Pages is not a MS Word clone, and does not work in the native .docx document format. Rather, it translates an opened Word document into the Pages document architecture. You are not guaranteed that this translation process, also used for export back to Word, will be accurate, or match the original Word content.
If I recall, Microsoft relaxed their licensing, and you are allowed to install Office for Mac 2011 on up to five computers that you own. If it were me, I would work on that original MS Word .docx document exclusively in MS Word to avoid any unplanned Pages content anomalies that cost you time.

  • Cannot share any docs in pages via mail

It seems I'm not the only one with a similar problem. As of this lunchtime I can no longer share a doc in pages (via drop down menue, share, email, pdf for example). Mail is still the default programme; all other parameters are exactly as they were this morning.
Is there a quicker way than exporting, that creates a new document and I really don't want to have most of my docs in pages AND word AND pdf, depending who I send them to. My Os is SL 10.6.8.
How do I get the sharing function to work again? Any help greatly appreciated!

In Yosemite, Pages '09 v4.3 has dropped functionality for the Share menu ▸ Send via Mail. You will need to export to disk, and then drag/drop into Mail.
You should be running Pages v5.5.2 (current) on Yosemite. Otherwise, update from the App Store. Whether from the Share menu, or the Toolbar Share icon, I have not experienced Send a Copy ▸ Mail failing to export and attach documents to Mail.

  • I cannot send a Pages document, Word format via email from my ipad if it has a picture in the the doc.  I can send a Word doc if it does not have a pic in it or pdf with a pic.  Any thoughs why a word doc with a pic in it won't email in Pages?  thanks

I cannot send a Pages document, Word via email if the doc contains a picture.  If I email a Pages doc without a pic in Word format or pdf with a pic it with go through to sender?  Not sure why Pages won't send Word doc with a picture in it.  I check the security on the email recipient and the email doesn't get blocked or throw in the junk box?
    thanks,

If you have upgraded to Mountain Lion, Save As… has returned to the File menu when you hold down the Option/alt key. But you don't really "save" as other file types, you translate & export as Word or RTF or text or PDF & that is easily done by going to File > Export or Share > Export.
Also, please do us all a favor & don't use all capitals in your posts, either the body of the post or the title. All caps is the internet equivalent of shouting & is very hard to read.

  • Can't open Word .doc in Pages

I have Pages 5.1 and it won't open MS Word document (97-2004). I created the .doc documents in Appleworks. When Appleworks was replaced by Pages, my wife was left with a lot of .ckw files that could be accessed. I pulled out an old MBP and went back to TimeMachine backup and restored Appleworks, opened the .ckw files and saved them as Word documents with the goal of getting them into Pages. No luck so far. Originally Pages opened Word documents and you could save a document as as Word. Has something changed?

I'll also add that this "learning experience" has solved another issue that my wife had..."missing files". My wife has been complaining recently that her Pages files are disappearing. I would just shake my head and say that she was crazy. Now, I understand. Pages is now "beta" testing the iCloud storage of Pages documents. So, when she would save her Pages documents and quit Pages, her natural assupmption was that they were saved to her Documents Folder but they were actually saved to iCloud. Her normal routine is to go to Finder and go to Documents and look for a document she had created, and it wouldn't be there. Pages expects you to go to "Recent Documents" look either in iCloud or On My Mac.
I just played with it (I have Pages on my MBA and iPad and iPhone) and while I think Apple is on the right track with iCloud storage, I don't like the difficult process of "Moving" a document in order to get it to my Mac. I think it should be a simple choice of choosing where you want to save your document - iCloud or my Mac or a drive connected to my Mac.

  • How do I save formatting from Word docs to pages?

    Hi
Often when I open a word document in Pages I get a document warning pop up box.  Often I find that basic things from the Word doc have been changed.  For example, things that were in Bold text in the Word doc are no longer in Bold in the Pages file.  How do I prevent this from happening as the document moves back and forth between myself ( a Pages user) and a clien (who has Word)?

    Hello
As far as I know, Word create faux-style when a bold or an italic version of a font isn't available.
In such case, bold or italic will be dropped in Pages.
From my point of view it's a good choice but it may hurt some users.

  • I opened a word doc in pages but when I went to edit the doc all I could do is activate boxes of text....no cursor or keyboard showed up.  How do I edit an imported doc?

I imported and opened a word doc to pages.  When I went to edit all I got was highlighted boxes of text....no cursor or keyboard.  How do I edit an imported doc in Pages?

No, it's a document I created and it's not locked.   I did it at work and sent it to Pages so I could work at home.   It opens but I can't type or edit.

  • I am trying to email a pages doc to a Microsoft Word user.  They cannot open the doc. They will also want to edit and send back to me.  What do I need to do?  Add an app or format it differently?

Basically, how do I interact with MS users for Word?  Best to use textedit rather than pages?

Pages can only import/export (.doc) format Word files. If during the editing process, they send you back a (.docx) Word file (default on MS Word), you will not be able to import it into Pages '09.
Correct for "Export", but Pages '09 has no difficulty opening .docx format files (other than the same incompatibilities that exist with .doc format files. Image shows the top of page 1 of a docx file I received this spring. Red bar at the top is pasted in image of the file as it appeared in the Finder. Green rectangle is a privacy protection paste in of my own.
The only warning with this file was the usual 'missing font: Calibri' that i get with pretty much every MS Word file (.doc or .docx).
Actually, until we trained the secretary of another organization to send .doc or .pdf files, I was opening (in Pages '09) the .docx files he sent, saving them in either .doc or .pdf format, then forwarding the result to members unable to open the .docx versions on their PCs (using Word) or Macs (using AppleWorks).

  • How can I open Word docs with Pages?

I just installed the iWorks software because it said it would open Word docs. Now I can't seem to open any Word .doc files I had archived onto CDs, after abandoning my PC.
I've made Pages my default application for opening text, and that didn't help. I just keep getting the error message "The document "X.doc" couldn't be opened." Any ideas?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Paul
Pages - the word processing/page layout application in iWork (no "s") - usually doesn't have any problems with opening Word files, but I do believe it can't open any Word files older than version 6. It is also highly unlikely that it would be able to open any from the new 2007 version. If your documents are from a version in between those, they should open.
How are you trying to open them? There are at least three common methods, but, since you say the documents are on a CD, I suggest copying them from the CD to your hard drive first. To open one at a time you can use File > Open (where > means following menu commands with your cursor). To open more than one at a time, select the ones you want by Command- (⌘) clicking the files & then dragging them onto the Pages icon in the Dock or a Finder window or Control- or right-click & choose Pages from Open with in the contextual menu that appears.

  • Convert Microsoft Word docs to Pages?

I love Pages and want to convert a bunch of Microsoft Word docs into Pages documents. The action would open the .doc file in Pages, then save it as a Pages document with the same title.
Is there anything that would let me do this? Thanks.

I've tried that myself, to no avail.
Here's what I've tried - if anyone can twiddle with this to make it actually work, I too would be grateful!
    1 find finder items
    2 get specified finder items
3 copy finder items (to save originals)
    4 launch app (pages)
but then there's no action for creating a new file or saving-as or anything...
    thanks and peace-

  • MS Word 2007 docs in Pages

Hi, I just moved to apple from PC. I have an iMac with OS X (Lion) and iWorks. In Pages, I'm having trouble in opening the file created in MS Word 2007. Any help please?

I am suggesting that you use TextEdit or OpenOffice to try to open those docs, since Pages is not working for you with them.  Is there some reason you cannot try that?
What is happening when you try with Pages?

  • Nd suggestion for importing Word doc into Pages template....

I have a rather lengthy Word file that I want to import into Pages using one of its templates (Travel Journal). Is there a way to import the Word file directly into this template?
I know you can import a Word doc into Pages but once you do that, you have to do the designing from scratch (or at least that what it looks like you have to do).
I like the Travel Journal template and wanted to use that for my Word doc. Any suggestions for getting my Word doc into this template, without having to cut and paste each section?
I like the template because of the varied page layout options and I don't want to have to recreate from scratch!
    Help!

    Hello Debbie,
as I know there is no way to get what you want. I think you have to load the Word document into Pages and than you have to copy and paste all the text and media objects into the Pages template.
