Word docs become huge RTF files in RoboHelp 8.02

Every Word document that I add to the RoboHelp 8 project becomes huge in file size.  For example, a 100k Word 2007 document that consists of a couple of pages of text with a couple of small JPEG images (around 50k each) becomes a 15-30 meg RTF file in RoboHelp after importing.  The same happens if I created the page/document from within RoboHelp.  Is there a setting to keep the RTF files from swelling to such large gigantic sizes?

I found out what the problem was.  For some reason, the RTF files swell up when the a jpeg image is added and embedded into the Word document.  I created a test document and converted some of the jpeg images to bitmap (BMP) files and used the Image import tool that comes with RoboHelp.  The RTF documents stayed tiny even when the same images were added but now as BMPs.   The difference is that the RoboHelp image tool creates a link to the bitmap image as opposed to embedding it in the document which is what happened with the jpegs.  I read about this in another post that alluded to this in one of the RoboHelp forums.
Thanks!

  • Is it possible to add a word doc (as a separate file) in Captivate?

This could help to satisfy 508 compliance. This is in addition to the closed captioning feature, which I plan to incorporate.
FYI - I used Articulate Presenter in the past and was able to attach a Word Document, which user was able to access via link.
It would be nice to have a word doc incorporated into the stand-alone Captivate outpout.
    Thanks!

    Hi Share,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
You can add a word doc in Captivate as a separate file.
On a button or click box you can select the Action to "Open URL or File" and then type the name of the word doc in URL box. After publishing the output paste the word doc in the output folder and this will open the word doc as a separate file from the button.
    Thanks

  • I have paid for Adobe Acrobat XI Pro OCR but it will not recognise a letter in the serial number for me to update my adobe account and any of the programs I have tried using to convert a PDF file on a Mac to a word doc it is converting file with funny sym

I have been supplied info in an email to copy and paste for a new product purchase "Adobe Acrobat XI Pro OCR" but am unsure how and where to copy and paste to. There is also a link below the serial number. I have tried entering serial number into my Adobe ID but it is not recognising one of the letters in the 24 Digit serial number??? Also I have tried other products previously downloaded to convert a 7 page PDF file on my Mac and convert it to a Word doc but everything I have tried is converting the file to display some text correctly but also displays random symbols and fonts in place of the handwritten info filled in on the form... also getting blank pages included instead of the info??? Would appreciate some help... I am older generation and not always tech savvy, and it is doing my head in haha.

    Hi Jock,
I've checked your account, and all is well there. Please make sure that you're logging in with the same Adobe ID/password that you used when you signed up.
Then, clear the browser cache, and try logging in directly to https://cloud.acrobat.com.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,

  • Making Word Default To Open RTF files

Is there any way to make Word the default opener to open rtf files instead of text edit?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Discussions!
In the Finder, select (but do not open) a file with the rtf extension. Then go to File->Get Info and, in the window that opens, look where it says "Open with" and select MS-Word. Be sure to select the box that will always do this if that is what you want.

  • Problem opening word doc if folder or file contains space

    Hi All,
I am writing a program to open a word doc.The code i wrote is as follows
    try {
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("c:\\program files\\Microsoft Office\\Office\\Winword.exe"+" file:\\\\"+path);
    } catch(Exception ex) {
    System.out.println(ex);
    the variable path will contain
    C:\My Documents\abc.doc
if the folder name or file name contains space in between, the word document will not open.It gives an error saying
trying to open C:\My\ couldn't find the file.
otherwise(if folder or file name doesn't contain space) it works fine.
So how do i overcome this problem?
    Regards
    S S Kurgod

Just a guess, but since it's based on the file protocol, you could try replacing the spaces in the path variable with %20%

  • Can Form Fields from uploaded WORD docs become Sharepoint columns ?

    Hello -
We are in the process of uploading many Word docs from Shared drives to Sharepoint (2010 )
Some of the Word documents have information stored in Form Fields. For Example : BuyerName & SellerName. These fields need to be used in SP for sorting, filtering etc.
We have tried creating columns on Sharepoint with the same names (BuyerName & SellerName) but the information from the Word docs does not display in the corresponding Sharepoint columns once the docs are uploaded.
Any advice on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated !

  • Pictures edited with Photoshop becomes huge in file size

    Hey,
Sometimes I like to edit my pictures with Photoshop if there are some things I need to remove etc. But after I save my picture from within Photoshop, it takes up like 70MB or something in my Aperture library. That's a lot for a single picture. Isn't there something to be done so they get down to around RAW-filesize level?
Or do I have to go the long way round and export first (as what?), then edit in Photoshop, save as JPEG, import to Aperture?

This issue of size is not Aperture, per se. If you open one of your RAW files saved directly from the camera to a folder on your Mac, then open with Photoshop, change to Mode settings to be 16 bit vs 8 bit, then Save As a TIFF, you will see the same size increase.
Aperture by default is working in 16 bit color, and that alone will increase TIFFs or PSDs by a factor of two.
Photoshop needs the image file to be either TIFF or PSD to accomplish and then save most edits that require Photoshop, and that you can later re-edit. If your edit requires layers, then you can flatten the image before saving to not pass that increase back into Aperture storage.
Although you can save your edited image as a JPEG in PS, there is no facility to directly pass this back to the Aperture Library.
I find little reason to use Photoshop for editing, unless I need to work with layers, btw, especially since Aperture 3.

  • Word doc file conversion error - virus or OS?

I have word documents made on the Mac and have only existed on the Mac. When double clicked, some of them will not open anymore. Office prompts to convert the file but no matter what format chosen, the converted file is no good.
This issue doesn't seem to effect all word docs. Seems like there was an Mac OS update or something that may have caused issue. The system has Parallels running XP and it was thought that might have allowed a virus or caused some corruption. (The virtual PC never had e-mail setup or Office installed.)  Moving the files to another Mac provides the same results. So the files themselves seemed to have changed or it's something in the OS.
Only difference I have noticed between the two files are, the files that don't open have a file extension and the files that do open have none. The ones with no file extension I think are a legacy from an older OS version that was not as strict on having them. Adding and then removing a file extension does nothing, the OS still sees those files as Word docs.
Removing the file extension on a file that has one, does not change convert file prompt. In fact it just makes the file loose it application type so the OS doesn't know what type of file it is.
All of this was happening using Office 2008 (Word 12.3.6) so today I bought Office 2011 today to see if the issue could be resolve and got the same results.
I have read many threads on Word conversion issues but none like this one or that doesn't involve a PC. Anybody have thought or seem this? Maybe there is a work around I'm missing?
    Thanks for your time.

Thank you about your XP answer. That makes sense. I would think that would be a major flaw in the Parallels product.
That leaves OS versions possibly. All these word docs were created in Office 2008 after the company got the Macs and made the switch. The only things that really changed over that time was OS upgrades and MS Office updates.
The issue only came to known last year. Inital research and current have found nothing to act on.  Other issues I've read involve going between platforms and that's just not the case here. We threw the PCs out after the move.
This issue effects many files throughout our client file folders, the only differences being as I noted. Attach two JPEGs showing a good (no extension) and bad (has file extension) file info.

  • Opening RTF Files to Word?

Im hoping i put this in the correct area.
Basically, my rtf files are opening to TextEdit, but i need to open them to Word. I was told there was a way to make Word the default for RTF files but I'm unsure how to do that. Any ideas?

Hi Barbie, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You got the right area... no problem even if you didn't.
Simply find an rtf in the Finder, do a Get Info or CMD+i on it, look for open with..., selct word Word doesn't show, click the Change All button.:)

  • Read contents of Word docs?

    Hello all:
I have a directory of word documents that I need to loop
through and read the contents and save various parts of the textual
    content into a database.
I've used cfdirectory to loop through the directory and then
cffile action="read" to read the contents of the file into a
variable. However, I have what appears to be binary information
stored before and after the text that is saved in the variable
    specified in the cffile tag.
How can I get rid of this so that I'm left with just the text
    contained in the Word file?
    TIA
    Lisa

When you read a binary file you get binary data. Word .doc
    are not text
files. If you can not convert the files to txt or at least
    rtf files
you will have to use the word com object to parse the file.
    This is a
very problematic solution as it involves installing MS Word
    on the
server. The trouble is the MS Word is not designed to run on
    a server
and both Adobe nee Macromedia, and Microsoft warn against
    doing so.
If you do so, have good access to the server. Because as you
    program,
anytime you do something that causes MS Word to ask a
    question with a
dialog box, it is going to send that to the server's screen
    and lock up
and wait for somebody sitting at the server to answer the
    dialog. Since
it is not a server application it doesn't understand how to
    send these
    to clients in any way.
No since you can read some of the text from the binary, you
    may be able
to get it out with Regex or other string processing, but that
    does not
    sound like fun to me.

  • How do I fix placed RTF files?

I am using CS4 to place several word documents into a book and I am having the usual issues of crashing when trying to place doc files. I am not using any special tables, graphics or fonts, and even if I disable all the import options it usually crashes.
I can sometimes get a regular doc to work but it randomly garbles the text and removes footnotes, so I don't trust this.
RTF seems to work so I think I am going to go with that, but it creates anomalies. I don't mind deleting the random spaces it creates (though this is tedious) but one thing it does which I don't know how to undo is that in the odd footnote here and there it creates a thin black box around some or all of the text. How do I get rid of this box? I can sometimes just retype whatever is in the box beside it and then delete the boxed text altogether but I can't do this when the box encompasses the entire footnote.
    Any suggestions?

I'm still having trouble placing one document. It is a simple text document with footnotes but no tables, graphics, or lists. It has no hyperlinking in it. I have tried using .doc, .docx, and .rtf files, including those made on Word 2010, 2007, and 2003. Each time the result is the same: about 1/3 of the document is placed and it abruptly gets cut off in the middle of a sentence. The red box appears after 2 or 3 blank pages but will not actually add any more text if I try and do so. According to the story editor there is overset text in both the body and footnotes, but I don't know why this would be since I am there is just plain text and I have footnote splitting on.
I am at a total loss for this. Some have mentioned using programs to clear formatting, but it is very important that I not lose the numerous italics in the document. That would be a deal breaker.
Any advice? I don't have access to any other versions of ID besides my CS4 here. The other documents have been placed by one method or another - different rtf files. But this one just won't work.

  • How do I include Word docs in my WebHelp Project?

I'd like the Word docs to be part of my RoboHelp project and list them in the TOC. In other words, I don't want to link to Word docs in another location.

Thank you. That works! I never knew what baggage files were for!

  • Word docs from pc to iPad

I can't figure out how to share a word doc from my pc to the iPad. I went through the steps in the manual but can't find the file share option they talk about in the app tab on iTunes. Any ideas?

Do you have Pages installed on your iPad? If not, I'm not sure that file transfer option will appear, though I'm not certain; perhaps someone else here can confirm or refute. If that is indeed the case, then you'll have to email the document to an account your iPad can pick up, or get Pages or one of the other iPad apps that supports Word docs and provides a file transfer capability.
    Regards.
