Word document became corrupt when attempting to append...

I'm going crazy here. I'm using RoboHelp 4.1 and I am having
an issue with trying to create printed documentation. I was
receiving the error message, 'The Word document became corrupt when
attempting to append a malformed topic.' Then it would say failed
to update 'topic name'. So in trying to fix it I deleted the entire
folder which contained the file where it blew up, and tried
recompiling it. It went past the point where I had removed the
folder and blew up on a topic in the next folder and gave the same
error...so I deleted that folder also. Now it will make it entirely
through the printed documentation process....but at the end of
compiling it, it tells me Failed to Update images....but at least
now it will give me a finished document (it just has a bunch of
dead linked images). Is this an issue that would be cured with an
upgrade to X5 or is this something else that I have not thought of
yet? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, jdammen.
The first thing I suggest is a search of the forums on the
word "malformed" - you are not alone! Seems like the problem can
have multiple causes: one bad topic, a bad style in the CSS, not
enough RAM, some kind of weird invisible running corruption...
The solutions offered seem to fall into general categories -
1) generate with half the topics, then a quarter, etc. to narrow
down and kill the bad topic, 2) change all styles to Normal and see
if printdoc generates correctly, 3) take a copy of the project and
restore it from .hhp (see
Peter Grainge's website for
help), 4) start over.
I'm afraid they all have one thing in common - trial and
error. You're just going to have to slog through this.
BTW, this happens in X5 - I don't think an upgrade will be a
quick solution for you.

Our school district uses the web based version of Outlook Exchange. Several of us using Apple computers have had problems when sending word documents as attachments. When received, the document is full of garbled text. This has happened with different model computers, running 10.5.x or 10.6.x. I determined that removing the items from the folder in profiles (Users-> <user> ->Library->ApplicationSupport->Firefox->Profiles-><profile folder>) the problem is resolved. However, all preferences for Firefox are then lost. Does anyone know what specific item in the folder would cause this?

I think this is an excellent indicator that not only is Palm reviewing the feedback from the support forums here, but actively reviewing feedback/comments/wishes on other sites as well.
As the original poster copied this (quite solid, IMO) wishlist from Pre Central, the palm support staff acknowledged first seeing it there.

Document became corrupted after any editing and saving it using Excel

I have quite a simple document which can be opened by Excel, edited, but after saving became corrupted (no longer possible to open it on the same PC). I tried editing on copies of this document on 3 different PC's with the same result - so the problem is
in a document, but why Excel behaves in a such unfriendly way? If document is initially corrupted it should not be possible to spent time on editing it and then lost all the work done together with a document itself....

Which Excel version are you using? Based on my tested in my environment (Excel 2013&Windows8.1 and Excel 2010& Windows 7), I can re-open the file which your shared after editing/saving it.
Do the three PCs have the same Excel version and operation environment? If the issue only occur in this file and the other file work well, I recommend we copy all of the content to the new/blank file to test.
If you got the error message like: The file is corrupt and cannot be opened", please try the following methods:
1. Open Excel
2. Click on File > Options.
3. Select Trust Center > Trust center settings.
4. Select Protected view.
5. Uncheck all the options under Protected View > OK.
6. Restart Excel and try to open Excel documents.
If the issue occurs in all files with three different PCs, I recommend we repair Office programs.

Embedded Excel in Word 2003 document Becomes Corrupt when Saved

We have a Word 2003 document with Embedded Excel sheets in it. When this document is saved and reopened, you cannot edit the excel tables, you just get the message "document corrupt, no longer available".
Detect and Repair doesn't fix it, it seems to make the excel table a picture or object that cannot be edited.
What is the fix for this?

Maintaining original Word document paper size when creating a new form

I am creating a new form in Adobe LiveCycle using a template I created in Word. The original form in Word is Legal size but when I change it to Adobe, it converts the form to Letter size. How do I maintain the form in legal size?

in the hierarchy tab, select page 1 of master pages. in the object tab for the master page you can select paper type, orientation, or if you have a custom page size you can define that as well. hope this helps.

Appending to a Word document

Two items:
1) Is there a way to append to an already existing Word
document? I can create the Word document through AW and it updates
when then program runs, but if the file has been created outside of
AW, then the .doc does not get updated.
2) Rather than appending to the end of a Word document, is
there a way to append to the top or at least designate where the
next appended text should be written?

Authorware's AppendExtFile function will (should?) append
text to any document you reference. I'm surprised the Word doc does
not get updated at all.
However, I could certainly see the document not being updated
properly (and maybe that's just what you're seeing). The
Write/Append functions just write plain old ASCII text. Word is not
just plain old ASCII text. After appending, open the Word document
in notepad to see all the other, um, garbage Word adds to the
document. I would bet the text your appending is indeed at the
bottom, but its below Word's formatting text so you can't actually
see it...?
So, in essence, appending text to an actual Word doc probably
won't work. I'm not sure how to overcome that... Are these docs
that others will create? If not, you could try to make them in
WordPad, perhaps, and see if Authorware will update them. But once
opened and saved in Word, you're back to where you started.
There was a discussion here or the List that mentioned an
ActiveX-like control that could possibly do this. Search?
To append to the top of a block of text, you have to read it
in to a variable, add the contents to the top, then write it all
out to a new document.
Oh, also for both issues, look at the FileIO Xtra (select
'Xtra fileio' in the Functions category drop-down). Using this may
give you a solution - at least to appending at the top. Not sure
it'll work with Word, considering the hidden garbage in there....

InDesign CS6 not linking to source Word document

When I had Adobe Cs4 when I place a word document in InDesign a link was created to the source documenent. If the word document was changed, when InDesign checked for errors it prompted me to update the link document. Now when I place a word document in CS6 it does not creat a link. If the word document is changed I cannot update the indesign unless I delete everything and place the word document again. Is there a better way?

Whats size should a word document be to fit the ipad screen perfectly

I am looking at creating a word document i can then save as a pdf to use on an ipad, but whatize should i make the word document so that when i veiw it on an ipad it looks the same as it did on my screen in word?

I use documents to go for my files. I do not have to save them at any specific size. On my iPad, I can pinch to zoom in or out to any size I want. So, I do not see any need to save my files on my computer in a special size to be able to view them on my iPad.

Converting TIFF to Word Document

I've just switched to Mac and I'm wondering how I can convert TIFF files into word documents.
Previously, when using my PC, I was able to do so by using the document imaging program found in the microsoft office tools.

TIFF is an image format. Preview should be able to convert the file to a JPEG or a similar file. If you want it as a Word document, the way to do that is to open the file then copy the image and paste it into a Word document or import it into a new Word document, then save.

copy your fla.
rename the copy to a dot rar file and use winrar to repair it. then unrar to see if you can get a uncorrupted copy.
otherwise, rename your fla to a zip, unzip it and recover whatever assets you can.
or if you have a good swf, try a decompiler (like sothink's) to see if you can recreate your fla.
and, in the future, save versions of your work so you never have to go through this learning experience with flash or any other document creation tool.
