Word document closes before printing

I am using a HP Deskjet 6980. Just recently when you try to print a word document go into file, print, the document appears to go to the printer but fails to print and the document closes.  But when you click on the printer icon in the toolbar the documents prints out once.  Anyone any ideas where the problem lies.
Many thanks
Bob

This is undoubtedly not the most optimal solution, but what happens if you print to PDF? Do all shapes and objects appear in the PDF electronic copy on screen? If so, how does it look, then, if you open the PDF with Adobe Acrobat (Reader?) or Preview and print hard copy from there?

  • I cannot print word documents but can print all other documents

    Since updating my virus checker I cannot print word documents. I can print all other documents

    At this point my suggestion is to do a full uninstall of the old print driver and an install of the most recent version print driver which you can obtain at:

  • Word document won't 'print' to PDF on proper paper size

    I have a document in MS Word that's on a 5.5x8.5 page size. If I do a Save As, the resulting PDF uses the proper paper size, but it also shows color--which I don't want for this particular document.
    When I do Print and choose Adobe PDF, I can choose Black/white which is great, but I'm struggling to get it to use the right paper size. I've tried ever combination I can think of in the Default Setting and Adobe PDF Page Size options, but can't get it to show anything but 8.5x11.
    Any thoughts on how to get the right paper size using Print to PDF?

    Is this a Word document generated by Adobe's RoboHelp product or just a document generated directly in Word?
    If the latter, you are asking in the wrong place. Even if you are using RoboHelp, this looks more like a question to ask in the Acrobat forums.

  • Multipage word document cannot be printed using webutil

    We have the following problem. We are using Oracle Webforms 11g (11.1.1.4). On the server a Word 2010 docx document has been created and needs to be printed locally. We use webutil for this with the following code:
    -- create a new document
    app := client_ole2.create_obj('word.application');
    client_ole2.set_property(app, 'visible', 0);
    docs := client_ole2.get_obj_property(app, 'documents');
    args := client_ole2.create_arglist;
    client_ole2.add_arg(args, p_filename);
    client_ole2.add_arg(args, 0); -- confirmconverion (false)
    client_ole2.add_arg(args, 1); -- readonly (true)
    client_ole2.invoke(docs, 'open', args);
    client_ole2.destroy_arglist(args);
    client_ole2.invoke(app,'printout');
    client_ole2.release_obj(docs);
    args := client_ole2.create_arglist;
    client_ole2.add_arg(args, 0);
    client_ole2.invoke(app,'quit', args);
    client_ole2.destroy_arglist(args);
    client_ole2.release_obj(app);
    When the document to be printed consists of only one page the document is printed. When there is more than one page (hard/soft page end) the resulting document is empty. We also tried Word 2003, RTF format but nothing worked.
    Extra Info:
    Clients: Windows XP SP3, Office/Word 2010
    Server: Forms 11.1.1.4, Windows Server 2008R2
    Webutil/jacob: 1.10.1 as recommended.
    What can we do to solve this?

    Ok... I went back and tested your code and by adding a "0" for the Range param, all pages of my 3 page doc printed.
    -- create a new document
    app := client_ole2.create_obj('word.application');
    client_ole2.set_property(app, 'visible', 0);
    docs := client_ole2.get_obj_property(app, 'documents');
    args := client_ole2.create_arglist;
    client_ole2.add_arg(args, p_filename);
    client_ole2.add_arg(args, 0); -- confirm converion (false)
    client_ole2.add_arg(args, 1); -- readonly (true)
    client_ole2.invoke(docs, 'open', args);
    client_ole2.destroy_arglist(args);
    -- CHANGES BEGIN HERE
    args := client_ole2.create_arglist;
    client_ole2.add_arg(args, 0); -- 0 means background printing
    client_ole2.add_arg(args, 0); -- 0 means no append
    client_ole2.add_arg(args, 0); -- 0 means print all pages
    client_ole2.invoke(app,'printout',args);
    client_ole2.release_obj(docs);
    client_ole2.destroy_arglist(args);
    -- CHANGES END HERE
    args := client_ole2.create_arglist;
    client_ole2.add_arg(args, 0);
    client_ole2.invoke(app,'quit', args);
    client_ole2.destroy_arglist(args);
    client_ole2.release_obj(app);This appears to be the syntax according to the MS docs:
    PrintOut([Background], [Append], [Range], [OutputFileName], [From], [To], [Item], [Copies], [Pages], [PageType], [PrintToFile], [Collate], [FileName], [ActivePrinterMacGX], [ManualDuplexPrint], [PrintZoomColumn], [PrintZoomRow], [PrintZoomPaperWidth], [PrintZoomPaperHeight])

  • Print an MS Word Document to specific Printer tray

    Hi
    How do I print an MS Word document to a specific tray?
    In fact it even should be a different tray per page. (First page different from the following ones...)
    If there isn't a OLE2 Procedure, is there any workaround?
    Maybe using a Macro?
    As I have been told that this isn't possible, I would be very grateful for any help :-)

    Hi Karine,
    using ole2 isn't immediately, you must try first to write the code in a VB macro and then translate in ole2.
    in this link there are some examples

  • How big can a word document be before Pages (iPad1) crashes?

    I have an iPad1 and was thinking of using it for some quick edits. Since my MacBook struggles a bit with some of my larger word documents, I wondered how the iPad would fare. I don't want to waste the $10 on Pages if it isn't going to work for me. My documents tend to be 100-400 pages, with TOC's, indices, tables, and figures spread through out. The file sizes (of .doc and .docx files) range from 2MB-12MB. Is the idea of editing these documents on an iPad just a dream?

    There is no fixed limit on what Pages for iPad can handle and 2-15 MB is doable.
    That said, 100-400 pages is not a "consumer" level document.  Thats a very large document.  If Word on a full blown computer is having issues with your documents then Pages on a Mobile device may struggle.
    Pages may run slowly with that number of pages and complexity you indicate.  Embeded graphics take more of a tole than simple text.  In addition it may not preserve some of the unique formatting you might have from Word.
    It might be wise to take an example document to an Apple Retail store or Best Buy and load it on one of their iPads and see what it does.
    Cheers.

  • Word documents won't print after upgrade

    I upgraded my G4 Cubefrom OS9.2.2 to Panther successfully. I also upgraded to a new printer. When I try to print documents created in my old system on OS9 in microsoft Word, they open up OK in Classic, but the print click brings up the old printer. How do I select the new printer? The printer works fine with old Appleworks documents. Also, will my very old 1998 Word programme work in OSX or will I continue to need Classic for it to function? Any thoughts would be most welcome. Thanks.

    You must install an OS 9 printer driver for the new printer and remove the driver for the old printer.
    The version of Word that you have is an OS 9 only version. You can use it while running OS X via the Classic emulation but the program will not run natively in OS X. For that you will need to upgrade to an OS X version.
    If you plan to continue using OS X you will need to upgrade all your old software to OS X versions including AppleWorks (6.2.9 upgrade is available for owners of AW.)

  • Pages won't print Word documents

    All of a sudden I can't seem to get Pages to print Word documents. Pages documents print fine, but if I send a Word document to the printer, the printer seems to start, but then never prints. I have an Epson Stylus C86. This problem only happens in Pages and only with Word documents.
    Any ideas?

    Since it only happens with Word docs, I'm wondering if it's a font issue. For the sake experimentation, try highlighting the entire doc, and change fonts, then try printing again.

  • When I try to print from web page I get "printer not activated - error code 30", but I can copy text into Word document & printer works.

    I am unable to print anything from an internet web page. I continually get "printer not activated, error code- 30" followed by "An unknown error occurred while printing". I can copy the material from the web page, place into a Word document and then print. This just started yesterday and I have no idea why. Would appreciate your advice!

  • Adobe Pro - will not print word documents to pdf.. keeps crashing

    Hello,
    I have Acrobat Pro and when I try to print Word documents it says printing... and then crashes. The window to select the name of the pdf to print to never pops up. The Word program crashes and reopens. The print icon appears on the system tray and just says spooling.
    I am using Word 07.
    Acrobat Pro was working fine to print PDF's on this version of word for a few months then for some reason it just stopped.
    When I print PDF's from existing PDF's it works fine.
    I have tried to repair the program but it did not help.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Miguel

    If you are having problems creating a PDF, there are two steps you should do FIRST
    Go to the appropriate vendor web site and apply all updates to the program you are using (several recent messages have concerned problems with MS Office conversion, with the response that different versions of Office have different BUGS that must be fixed by a download from Microsoft - and MS Office products are not the only ones which may, from time to time, need to be updated to work properly)
    Apply all updates IN NUMBER ORDER

    Hi,
    As the issue occours with a specific document only, make sure to verify that any of the document settings are set correctly
    (e.g. the right paper size, the page margins, etc...)
    Additionaly, try copying the entire content of the document and paste into a new blank document, try printing the new document and check for any change.
