One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
Open Console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & next startup for clues.

  • Dell VENUE 11 PRO 7140 keeps crashing when closing a word document

    Hello all,
I'm having an issue with a VENUE 11 PRO 7140.
Every time that i try to close a word document, the computer crashes giving me this error: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.
On the eventviewer looks like TOASTER.EXE caused the problem...
I know that that executable belongs to Dell data backup so i uninstalled it since it's an enterprise environment and we back everything up. I tried closing a couple of word documents and it worked fine.
The issue happened again (BSOD) when i had the user logon and try to open one of her word documents..
The other problem that i have is that i do not have full time access to that PC since the user needs to work with it. Had the chance to spend a couple of hours today but it doesn't seem stable.
Another strange thing that might be related to that is that the App readiness service keeps stopping even though i configured it as automatic on startup and to restart after each failure...
Any ideas what can probably cause this? Anybody has had any similar issues with this kind of tablet?

  • RH Crash when linking or importing word documents

    RH9 build 9.0.1.232
    Office 2010
    Webhelp (custom skin)
I have created a template from a successful project which i completed over three months ago.
I am now trying to create a project using the template and getitng persistent crashes when attempting to Import or Link Word documents.
This is causing a great hold up to the project delivery.
    Any help would be appreciated

Please see the article on my site about Project Templates. The script has been found to have some issues.
You say have deleted the file and then ask what will happen if you remove it. You did, you said so "Deleting the file seemed to work". If that is not what you mean, please clarify what you mean by removing the file.
If you create a project using the script, then close the project and delete the CPD, it should be OK. If there ae going to be problems, you will know pretty soon.

  • Word 2007 crashes when sving a document

    Hey guys,
I have a user that is using Word 2007 on Windows XP sp3.  When she tries to save a word document, Word crashes on her.  It appears to do this randomly and there is nothing I can see that would trigger it.  She can edit a document, save it
(using either quick save, or file, save) and it will crash on her.  She's noticed more of a issue when she uses the quick save button.  I have uninstalled Office twice. Once doing an uninstall/reinstall and the other doing an uninstall, delete the
directory and reinstalling word.  The only add-on she has is Dorland's 28th edition dictionary.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled this and the issue still seems to come up.  I have gone through the registry and deleted any instance of Dorland's
I found.  I did notice in the add/remove programs that there was a Dorland's lsited there, but could not be uninstalled.  I am betting that could be the culprit.  Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Pro - will not print word documents to pdf.. keeps crashing

    Hello,
I have Acrobat Pro and when I try to print Word documents it says printing... and then crashes. The window to select the name of the pdf to print to never pops up. The Word program crashes and reopens. The print icon appears on the system tray and just says spooling.
    I am using Word 07.
Acrobat Pro was working fine to print PDF's on this version of word for a few months then for some reason it just stopped.
When I print PDF's from existing PDF's it works fine.
I have tried to repair the program but it did not help.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Miguel

If you are having problems creating a PDF, there are two steps you should do FIRST
Go to the appropriate vendor web site and apply all updates to the program you are using (several recent messages have concerned problems with MS Office conversion, with the response that different versions of Office have different BUGS that must be fixed by a download from Microsoft - and MS Office products are not the only ones which may, from time to time, need to be updated to work properly)
Apply all updates IN NUMBER ORDER

  • InDesign CS4 crashes when placing Word document

    Hi,
I'm having a real problem placing a Word document into InDesign CS4. It crashes every time! I have found that if I disable the "import inline graphics" it successfully places the document. but enabling that option crashes InDesign.
I've tried saving as RTF, and even doing a simple copy-paste but the result is the same: InDesign crashes.
If you have an idea please let me know!
    Thanks,
    Ariel

Yes sir! The Word file that crashes CS4 is placed successfully in CS2. The saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it" comes to mind!
The only disadvantage is that each chapter is a separate file and in CS2 these need to be placed separately, whereas in CS4 (if it worked ;-)) they could all be placed in one go.
    Thanks Jongware,

  • How can I restore my Microsoft Word Documents which became Unix Executable Files after my Macbook Pro Crashed?

After my MacBook Pro suddenly crashed, we had Best Buy's Geek Squad attempt to save the files. According to them, they were successful in doing so and put all of the saved files in a folder on my desktop which they labeled "Backup". The problem is, all of the files are in a Unix Executable format. When you double click on any of them, they pull up the terminal and that's it. After researching the issue and trying to grasp what was going on, I learned that you can open these files in Text Edit and sometimes find the file extension (.png .jpeg .amr .qt) that belongs at the end of the filename in order for it to be pulled up. In doing this, I had some success restoring some photos, audio files, and videos. However, no luck at all in restoring any of my Microsoft Word documents or even finding out which Unix Executables are Word documents. I've even tried to add .docx to various files just to see if I would luck out. Nope .  Any help would be SO SO greatly appreciated!!!

Just to make sure, your Mac meets Snow Leopard's requirements?
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
Yes, Lion does require that  you have Snow Leopard installed so you have access to the Mac App Store.
And you do need to be running v10.6.8 in order to upgrade to Lion >  http://www.apple.com/macosx/how-to-buy/
When you verified the startup disk using Disk Utility, what were the results?
Wouldn't hurt to do that again. From your admin account launch Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab. Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions).
If the startup disk needs repairing, boot from your install disk to make repairs >  Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
While you have the DU window open, check Capacity & Available at the bottom of the window. Make sure there is a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • Word 2013 Crashes When Opening A Word 2007 Or Older Document

I have this issue on every computer in our office. An outside source is sending in Word documents in docx format. Each time we try to open one of the files, Word with error out and close.
My wifes company uses Office 2010 and she can open the documents without any errors. We use Office 365 Pro Plus 32-bit.
    Has anyone see this before.
I have disabled all add-in on my machine and started Word in safe mode. All the same.
I am able to open it in Protected Mode or in the option to Open and Repair.

An outside source is sending in Word documents in docx format. Each time we try to open one of the files, Word with error out and close.
What does the error say? Have you ever checked the event log? Anything useful there?
(If you would like us to help analyze the logs, you can send the log file to this email account:
[email protected] and inform us here. Please use the link of this thread as the subject.)
As far as I know, when a file is opened in Protected View, all active file content, such as ActiveX controls, add-ins, database connections, hyperlinks, and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros, is not enabled.
Since you are able to launch these files in Protected Mode, probably some of the mentioned file content in these old version of files are causing the issue. You might want to troubleshoot on this aspect, check whether these files contain any of the mentioned
content. Remove them, then try again, or have a check with a plain text document from the same source and see if issue persists.

  • Word opened from word addin freezing the dialog which has opened from addin and crashing the parent word document

I have a office addins which works seamlessly in excel, powerpoint and outlook except in word . We have a option to create a word documents using the templates in a dialog which is opened from addin. And we have an option to set the work area  for
our webapplication either to use filestorage or sharepoint storage.
Again the same addin works perfectly with filestorage cache but the same doesn't work with sharepoint storage. the problem is when we create the new documents using the templates it produces the new word document, once it is created and opened, the parent
word document and the intermediate dialog window should get close but  instead it hangs both of them. when i try to close it explicitly it says word has stopped working.
Issue is with sharepoint 2010+Sharepoint storage and the same is not working with sharepoint 2013 as well as it by default uses sharepoint storage.
I have posted in the VSTO forum before but I haven't got the response yet. please help me this is a major and critical issue for us.
PS: irrespective of OS its not working.
    code to produce a file
    function ProduceFile(strFileUrl) {
       var obj = new ActiveXObject('SharePoint.OpenDocuments.3');
       obj.EditDocument(strFileUrl);

    Hi ShilpaSheshadri,
if this is a quite urgent, i may suggest to open a ticket directly, so that we can have a remote session to check this up. http://support.microsoft.com
i checked some forum such as:

perhaps you can also try to use other workaround,

to check, please have a check if this issue was also shown in other client machine or other client browser version.

  • How big can a word document be before Pages (iPad1) crashes?

I have an iPad1 and was thinking of using it for some quick edits. Since my MacBook struggles a bit with some of my larger word documents, I wondered how the iPad would fare. I don't want to waste the $10 on Pages if it isn't going to work for me. My documents tend to be 100-400 pages, with TOC's, indices, tables, and figures spread through out. The file sizes (of .doc and .docx files) range from 2MB-12MB. Is the idea of editing these documents on an iPad just a dream?

There is no fixed limit on what Pages for iPad can handle and 2-15 MB is doable.
That said, 100-400 pages is not a "consumer" level document.  Thats a very large document.  If Word on a full blown computer is having issues with your documents then Pages on a Mobile device may struggle.
Pages may run slowly with that number of pages and complexity you indicate.  Embeded graphics take more of a tole than simple text.  In addition it may not preserve some of the unique formatting you might have from Word.
It might be wise to take an example document to an Apple Retail store or Best Buy and load it on one of their iPads and see what it does.
    Cheers.

  • Indesign CSS crashes when placing a Word document

I can place images and other file types fine. but have been unable to place word documents, I save, save as, save as an older version of word. It is just appears to be loading, but becomes 'not responding' and I have to shut it down through task manager. I have been copying and pasting, but this is very unproductive. Please help. Thank you.

    Hello Peter,
Thank you for all your help, I did not know you replied, so perhaps the email went into my spam.  I followed the instructions here: http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/troubleshoot-damaged-indesign-documents.html and did #8. It took a while, but I eventually found the culprit was a pasted image in the document causing trouble.

  • I'm using an iBook G4. I'm having a problem with a lengthy Microsoft Word (2003) document crashing. It keeps telling me that there's a problem and then working and working. I have to do a forced shutdown.

I'm using an iBook G4. I'm having a problem with a lengthy Microsoft Word document. It keeps freezing when I try to make a change in it. The computer is working and working. Then I have to use a forced shutdown. And it starts all  over again. Suggestions?

Is there sufficient free space on the iBook's startup disk (typically called Macintosh HD)?  The OS and apps use free space to write temporary files, and it free space becomes too low, it can cause the Mac to bog down.  Low free space also makes whatever free space is left fragment into tiny pieces scatter all over the hard drive, making the problem even worse.  If it more than 90% full, you should free up some space.

Reduce the mss to 1300. If that doesn't fix it, keep lowering it by 100 each time. If you get down to 1000 and it still doesn't work, then we need to look at something else.
