Word Documents attached to email

I am running sun ONE messanger latest patches and my problem is as follows:
I have an email with a Word document attached ... I get an error when I try to open the attachement if I view the message in IE6 ... this issue is reproduceable every time across multiple versions of the OS. I can open the attachment in mozilla, firebird, netscape and opera on the same machine. I can also open the attachment in Outlook ....
Does any body know what microsoft has done that stops the attachment from opening ... other attachments ... visio, pdf, txt, xls all open
I feel like the guy that goes to the doctor and says ....
Doctor it hurts when I do this
and the doctor replies
Then don't do that.
I would be happy if IE disappeared from the planet but my boss lives in the browser and wants his word attachemnts to open up

Right you are and thats why I am here because I only see this behaviour in Sun ONE Message Server (iMS) ... To test this I have created a web page like this
<HTML>
<HEAD>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
This is a test <BR>
junk.doc
</BODY>
</HTML>
I can in IE6 go to this page and click on the link which then opens word and loads the document junk.doc .... so this is an issue of something that the http server in iMS is doing. I was wondering if anyone else on this forum has encountered this problem. Is this an issue of the iMS server seting the Content Expiration in the HTTP headers? Does microsoft deliberatly sabotage the download because it is coming from iMS?
This behaviour appears in all IE6 browsers on several versions of windows. Could somebody else in the Forum run a check against their iMS and see if this is an issue across the board?

  • TS1506 how do i save a word document attached to an email to my iphone

    I am trying to save a word document from an email to my iphone 4s.
    I have looked on all of the support pages and have found that word . doc is supported but cannot see how i can save it in any way?
    I have followed all guidelines but now it is making it hard to either attach a document to my email and save them

    In order to save any type of document on your phone you need to have an app that supports that form of document.
    There are several word processing apps but I prefer Pages.  Buy this app. Once it is on your phone you can tap the Word document in your email to view it then tap the Share icon and Open in Pages.
    If you edit the document and email it you will have the choice to send it as a Pages document, a Word document or a PDF file.

  • Word files attached in email are not recognised

    i have sent some word documents through yahoo email. when downloading the files in another computer (windows), the word files are not recognised and did not have an 'extension name' (if thats what they are called) such as ' .doc '
    I have set the computer (windows) to show the extension name, but the downloaded files did not have one.
    When opening the email using my iphone, it did not work as my iphone did not recognise the file type and said 'Mail cannot open this attachment'.
    Please help!

    Thanks for the reply.
    Well status as of now is :
    <b>GUI</b> : I am able to attach documents in BP properly. However after the documents are attached, when I try to open the attachment, it is not opening .txt files. Surprisingly it opens .Doc, .ppt, .xls & .pdf documents
    <b>PCUI</b> :  I am able to attach the documents properly.
    However when I open the document, it is not opening any type of file. I click on attached document icon and it just does not do anything. I mean no window pop-up or anything like that.
    By the way what exactly do I need to do in SICF transaction ? Can you please elaborate.
    Thanks

  • Cannot open Word document attachment in mail before sending.

    Cannot open Word document attachment in mail before sending.
    In Snow Leopard Mail 4, (Version 4.0 (1075/1075.2)) if I attach a word document to a message and, BEFORE sending the message, I double click the attached document to open it, to make sure it is the right one, I get the error "Mail was unable to save the attachment “Test.doc” to disk. Verify that your downloads folder exists and is writable."
    The attachment is mailed correctly and arrives at the destination, but the ability to verify an attached document before sending it is essential. This has worked fine in all previous editions of OS X.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks - Lawrence

    I have same problem. I've done the following testing to pinpoint where the problem lies and there are clues (see below):
    1. My machine had SnowLeopard installed "fresh" (i.e. disk reformat and installed cleanly)
    2. I have a comparison machine running Leopard (10.5.6) - essentially a mirror but with different OS
    3. Problem is triggered when creating new email, with a MS Word .doc attachment added. If you attempt to open the attached file in the mail (not yet sent) it produces the error message "unable to save file XXX.doc to disk. Verify that your downloads folder exists and is writeable"
    4.However, once the mail is sent, the recipient can open the attachment without problems.
    5. I have run Disk Utility and all permissions are correct. My downloads folder exists.
    6. The problem is not present in Leopard (mirror machine other than OS)
    7. I have uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office. Problem still present
    8. I have deleted and recreated the preference files for both MS Office and for Mail. Problem still present.
    And finally...
    9.The problem is confined to .doc files.It works fine for .pdf, .ods AND even for Microsoft .xls files.
    So it may be a MS Word problem triggered by Snow Leopard?
    Apple: if you can confirm this is a Microsoft problem it may be able to be reported to them as a compatibility issue?
    Hope this helps.

    Does the mail app display whatever is in the document without the ability to differentiate between hidden or non hidden images?
    The mail app will not display fillable form fields in PDF files that can be seen in real PDF apps. I say real PDF apps because the form fields in PDF apps will not appear in the iBooks app either. IMO, iBooks is not a real PDF app.
    So, I would say that the mail app cannot differentiate between hidden and non hidden items

    Need to save a word document received on email to my iPad 2

    You will first need an app on the iPad that supports word documents - unlike a 'normal' computer the iPad doesn't have a file system, and everything on it has to be associated with an app. Apps that support word documents include Apple's Page app, and third-party apps such as Documents To Go and QuickOffice Pro HD - when you have an app you should then be able to use 'open in' on the email to save the document to that app.

  • How at send a Word document as an email attachment from an ABAP program?

    Hi all,
    i got request to develop background run program which check which staff is due CONFIRM and able to attach confirmation form (Microsoft Word file) to HR and CC staff manager as recipients.
    I try almost all relevant FM but still face problem below, please assist.
    1) FM SO_DOCUMENT_REPOSITORY_MANAGER
    - A window pops up requesting Recipient email ids. I couldn't get the window suppressed.
    2) FM SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1
    - Since the attachment is a pre-formatted Word Document and not an Excel or Text document, couldn't process the contents into the internal table (most sample in forum is Excel not word)
    Appreciate ABAP folks who have sample code attach a word file will help on this.
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi ,
    sorry for my request but I have to send an e-mail with word attachment and I would appreciate if someone could give the code for
    the first part of this link: http://www.divulgesap.com/blog.php?p=ODI=
    (I mean 'ZDIV_SEND_EMAIL' ) . The problem is that I have to load in an internal table the file word (by using "open dataset in binary
    mode" I suppose ) and then pass this table to a FM or a method for sending e-mail with this file WORD but I 'm facing some
    problems....  any suggestion would be very appreciated ... I'm in a "impasse"  ! It's seems there is no way out !!!
    Thanks in advance

  • Can't open a word document sent via email

    This is the first time of using this forum and am hoping that my slowly developing hatred of apple will be nipped in the bud!
    I have been sent a word document on my yahoo email and am unable to open it. Usually I double click, the downloads window opens and then I click on that specific download. When I do this for this document the downloads windows appears but there are no downloads present. I have looked up on the apple support and it suggests 'dragging' the document into pages. I have done this and all that happens is that the document bounces back to the email
    I am not the most computer savvy person and am out of ideas! I'm sure (and am hoping) that there is a straight forward solution
    Any help would be really appreciated

    Hi fole
    A gif is just a picture, not the file itself.
    Try doing this in Mail:
    At the top of the eMail, just under From/Subject/Date should be a tiny grey triangle with +1 Attachment+ after it.
    Click on the triangle to turn it over.
    You should now see an icon with the file name under in underline blue text.
    You can click on the icon or file name and drag that to your desktop, or right hand click on it and:
    +Open With > Choose Pages or TextEdit+ both of which are in your Applications folder.
    There is also a possibility that the .doc file is in an incompatible later format, or is not what it appears.

    MS Office 2008 and 2011 work fine in Mavericks. What version are you using? You can always use a program such as Open Office to open the docs.

  • When I try to send a Word Document in a email the other party opens it only for it to say that the document has been deleted because it had a virus...what do I do?

    How do I clean my MacBook Pro?

    Where did this Word document come from? Was it originally sent to you from another Windows user? If so, it could have been infected with something by that Windows user.
    Alternately, it's remotely possible (depending on your version of Word) that you could have been infected with a Word macro "virus." This would run only within Microsoft Office and embed itself into documents you create. If you're seeing this problem with all Word documents you create, this is probably the cause. In that case, see:

  • How to attach more than one word document to an email?

    Hi there.
    I've recently acquired an Ipad which I want to use while I'm out and about.  I generally respond to emails with attachments.  How do i go about doing this on the Ipad?  I've got a gmail address and making use of the gmail app to send and receive emails.
    I would also like to be able to attach more than one attachment from the app pages.   Is there an app available which will allow me to do this?

    You can't do that from Pages or from the built in mail app. Look at this. I think it allows multiple attachments.
