Word documents embedded links issue

Hi Friends,
We have a strange issue, wherein we have some word documents in a document library in a SP 2013 site.  Each document has some embedded hyperlinks pointing to some other Office documents.  When we open the doc in OWA and try to click on these hyperlinks,
we get a 'blocked://....' URL with page not found error.  Any idea why this is happening and where to look for?
Shonilchi..

Hi Shonilchi,
If you type the link in the Address and access it directly, does it work?
If you embed a link such as
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx , and click it, could it redirect you to the expected site successfully?
Could you test the issue on different web browsers?
Please check the ULS log and see if there is related error message.

Rebecca Tu

  • Opening word document with linked PPT inside

    Hi everybody,
this is an error occuring using KM functionality, which could also be cause by the local Microsoft environment, but perhaps anybody knows this ...
We are using EP 6.0.2.4.8 with CM 6.0.2.4.6
In several KM navigation iviews we have linked folders from a file system repository with word documents inside. Users have problems opening the word documents which have powerpoint files linked inside the document. The powerpoint files are not embedded, but linked and shown as object (not as symbol or hyperlink).
This means: word document is openened via http://<portal>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/<folder>/<file>.doc
The PPT linked inside leads to
    <fileserver>\<share>\<file>.ppt
In some user environments (depending on local security policies(?) and local user/word options) word tries to automatically refresh the linked objects and then word crashes with an exception.
So far, a Microsoft problem, but:
when I copy the same word document to a simple IIS webserver an open it, the file is opened properly ...
Is this problem known somewhere? As it is a local application error, I do not get any error in the portal logs ...
    Best regards,
    Martin

    Hello,
Thanks for your answer. Since I work at a customer's office, I couldn't reply before because it took me some times to perform the tests.
I tried to embed the images in Word before importing the document into Robohelp 8. The problem remains. RH creates the images into a new folder (and names the images "image001", "image002", and so on). Therefore, the link with the original images is lost.
So, if we modify the image linked to the Word document, we are obliged to apply the same changes in the images created by RH.
The idea would be to have only one image folders used both by RH and Word so that if we change our images, the changes apply in all our files.
This option was available in RH x5.

  • Opening Microsoft Word Documents on Mac Issues

As a graphics professional I have to occasionally open client's Microsoft Word files and convert to something printable.
I have a late Mac with up-to-date Mountain Lion and the latest MS Word and a vast collection of OpenType fonts... but no Word document from a client opens to look like it is supposed to, with fonts replaced, type overflows, images moved and more. If I open it in Pages it's still a mess. If I open the document on my Windows PC it's fine.
Am I missing something that would make opening a MS Word document on my Mac work reliably?

Besides Csound1's useless information which is true that Word for Mac isn't up to par compared to the Windows version. The formatting used in the Windows version is different than what is used for Mac so the fonts and format which will obviously will look different. This is not a OS problem but a application issue so your best option is to go to Microsoft Office for Mac Support page http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac
    Good luck.

  • SharePoint 2007 Migration SharePoint 2010 Documents Broken Link Issue

    Hello All,
I'm in the process of doing a SharePoint migration from 2K7 to 2010 (different platform).  In SP 2K7 I have several thousands of documents. I have approx. 5K documents with anywhere from 1 to several links (http, https) that
will break after the migration.   Are there any Best Practices to deal with this issue?  Any information at all!!!
    Thanks

    Hi,
There are a lot of resources out there for migrating from MOSS 2007 to SharePoint server 2010. You need to have at least SP2 for MOSS 2007 installed on your WFE server. After that you can check the status of your farm running
    stsadm -o preupgradecheck.
I have published a checklist for migration, check it out:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/checklist-for-migrating-from-sharepoint-2007-to-sharepoint-2010.aspx
This technet link provide you with a comprehensive guide:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc303420.aspx
The best approach is to set up a separate SharePoint 2010 farm and the perform a database attach migration. You simply take a backup of your content database and the restore it to your new SQL server, then attach it to a web application you have created.
See the checklist I have provided above.

  • Link to Word document doesn't refresh when running from Infoview

I have a report that contains an OLE Object link to a Word Document.  If I modify the document and schedule the report through Infoview, it doesn't pick up the change.  If I refresh the report through Crystal Reports it does pick up the changes.  Any suggestions on how I can get the Infoview scheduled report to pick up the changes?
    Thanks,
    Tony

    Hello Tony and Co-Experts,
I am facing exactly the problem Tony had:
    - Embedded a Word document as linked OLE object into a crystal report and stored it to Enterprise repository.
    - When opening the report with CR Developer from my workstation, changes in the .doc file are reflected, the report is updated
    - However when displaying and refreshing the report on the BO Server via InfoView changes aren't reflected.
The OLE link is set to update automatically (under menu edit -> links)
I tried to store the report to the enterprise repository with and without data. Yet no difference and no update in either case.
Neither scheduling nor opening and refreshing the report in InfoView helps.
So what am I doing wrong?
    - On our BO server we have not installed Crystal Reports Developer. Is this a prerequisite for the OLE links to update?
    - And Tony wrote that he could resolve this by changing the logged on user with CR Job Server. Where and how would I change this user?
    - Any other suggestions?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Konrad

  • Links in Word Documents to SharePoint documents

Our SharePoint site contains Word documents with links to other documents stored in SharePoint.
When the users open a Word document stored in SharePoint, and then create a link, the users select the files in the "Current Folder" which is the SharePoint Network Drive.  In this case the path is
    \\rcssportal.co.riverside.ca.us\DavWWWRoot\sites\teammate\
When users then open the Word document, and select a link, they receive a "Cannot open the specified file" pop up.
If users do one of the following though, after being authenticated all the links will start working:
    1. In the document library, select "Open with Explorer"
    2. Map a Network Drive to
    \\rcssportal.co.riverside.ca.us\DavWWWRoot\sites\teammate\

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to link in Word Documents to SharePoint documents.
I try to reproduce the issue, however, I can open the Linked Word Document in the SharePoint Network Drive.
Please make sure you create Network Drive correctly. For more information, you can refer to:
Using SharePoint Document Library as a Network Drive
If the issues still exist, I recommend to select "Open with Explorer" to open the document.

  • Linked images in my Word document don't show up in RoboHelp

I'm using RoboHelp 8 and Microsoft Word 2003 on Windows XP. I create a new WebHelp project. I added all the .png image files from my Microsoft Word directory to Baggage Files. I then used the Link>>Word Document function to add my Word document to the RoboHelp project. Set my preferences for style pagination, did a Force Update All. However, most of the images I inserted as links into my Word document don't come through into RoboHelp. Apparently I'm missing a setting somewhere but I can't figure out what it is. In addition, one of the images that did come through is horribly degraded.

Still no joy. All of the images in my Word document are linked .png files.
Here's the step-by-step of what I just did:
    Open Word document
    Tools>>Options>>General>>Web Options.
    Change setting. Click OK
    Click OK
Change text on page one of document to make sure document is "dirty".
    File>>Save As.
    Increment number in file name.
    File>>Exit.
    Launch RoboHelp
    Start new project
Add all .png files to baggage.
    File>>Link>>Word Document
    Select appropriate Word file.
    File>>Project Settings>>Import tab
Edit Word conversion settings to set pagination for heading styles and set Convert Word list to RoboHelp list
    Click OK
    Click Apply
    Click OK
Right-click Word document in HTML Files (Topics) and choose Update>>Force Update All

  • RH9 - Can not create ANY links in linked Word documents ;-(

Ok, this does not make sense:
    - From RH9, create a fresh empty project
    - Create two word files "Topic1.docx" and "Topic2.docx"
    - Put "Link Here" in each document
    - Save the documents
    - From Project Manager, Project Files, link both documents, generate, update all, etc.
    - Now create hyperlinks in each topic, pointing to the other topic using default topic editor in RH9
    - Save All and Generate the WebHelp project and test the links are there and work.
    - Now open and edit both word documents in word. Add some text to each and save
    - In RH9 Project Manager, Project files, Update All and open the topics in RH9 default editor
Walla, the full text is there, the LINKS are gone. Actually, I understand that this is how it works, but the BIG problem is that links to bookmarks, other topics, links to outside resources created in RH9 Default Editor cannot be preserved when the related/linked document is edited in Word. AND, you cannot create ANY of these links in the Word documents. So, you have a help system that has really nice update features when an author makes a change to a document, but NO LINKS. Updating a linked document will DELETE ANY changes made within the RH9 Default Editor.
Does this make any sense? Has my brain fallen down? Is there another workflow option?
    Thanks for any help
    Lyle
Hummmmm, NO POPUPs, mini TOCs or See Also Keywords, Link Controls, etc. etc. etc.

I have been observing this thread and wanted to just chip in to remove some misnomers,
    1. If you create any hyperlink from any MS Word document (say Doc1) to another MS Word document (say Doc2) and you import the original document (Doc1) then it brings its reference (that is the word document Doc2) as baggage in the RoboHelp project and the hyperlink is not created to the html file generated for the word document Doc2 (linked or imported seprately).
thus if you click the hyperlink in RoboHelp it should open the word document Doc 2 (that was brought into the project as baggage)
    2. If word "conversion setting" alone are modified (like the settings “convert references to hyperlinks”) then at times the mapping fails to work, in such scenarios just go to the conversion settings dialog of FrameMaker and modify multiple “other settings” (it won’t impact your word conversion mapping.) Now any conversion settings applied for word will work.
Hence the “convert references to hyperlinks” is working but you need to update any FrameMaker conversion settings to get it working
@ Lyle – as now the flow must be clearer so I would give you a suggestion to merge all the word documents that you want to work with and use cross-references to places you want to have hyperlinks and use the option to “convert references to hyperlinks” in RoboHelp.and keep all the authoring in word document so that nothing is lost on update.
NB – There is a method to create intra document cross references in MS Word
In FrameMaker the concept of book gives it a sense of collection and thus cross references across FM documents inside a book are converted easily but in Word there is no way to group word documents and thus it is not possible to convert any spatial hyperlinks from one document to another.
    Hope this helps

  • Importing Word Files With linked Excel files

I have a word document with linked excel files that appear as linked images in word. When these images are clicked it opens it up in Excel where I can edit them which is fine. However, I would like to import the word doc into adobe indesign with editable tables - not images. Is there a way I can do this?
Importing, exporting, converting. Nothing seems to work besides manually bring in the separate excel doc in one by one but that will be very time consuming at my end.
    Thanks for any feedback.

AFAIK, that won't work. InDesign doesn't support OLE.
You may need to convert those Excel tables to Word tables before placing into ID.

  • Hyperlink in MS Word document to Oracle Portal 9.0.4 form does not work

    Hi,
In a MS Word document a link to a Oracle Portal 9.0.4 form is written this way:
    http://myserver/pls/portal/PORTAL.wwa_app_module.link?p_arg_names=_moduleid&p_arg_values=47602092358
When clicking on the link, and at the same time holding the Ctrl-button, an error is displayed
Error: An unexpected error occurred: ORA-01403: no data found (WWV-16016)
and the URL is changed to
    http://myserver/pls/portal/PORTAL.wwa_app_module.show?p_sessionid=248080&p_header=true
But if the hyperlink is copy/pasted from the Word document to the addressline of any browser, the form is opened without problems.
Any proposals how to write hyperlink in MS Word to Portal forms will be much appreciated.

  • Converting word documents to pages

when receiving word documents with linked text boxes the conversion to pages does not let me see the second or subsequent text boxes; I can view them using "open with" but I can't edit and send back.
There must be a solution for this; a lot of my work involves me editing partially completed forms and returning them to the original author ..who in government will always be sending me Word files.

    Try an application like
    Libra Office
    https://www.libreoffice.org
    Neo Office
    https://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php
    Open Office

I think Libre Office has the most fans here.
Or buy MS Word, Office for the Mac.

  • Word 2010 Edit Links?

Installed Office 2010.  I have a Word document with links to an Excel document.  The path for this Excel document has changed so I need to edit the link.
In 2007, you would just click the Office button, then goto Prepare, then Edit Links but this does not exist in 2010.  Somewhere I read that I click File and then goto Finish, but I do not have a section named finish.
    Thanks for any advice!

I had the same problem and spent a long time looking for the solution!  Then I found this brilliant link:
    http://www.addictivetips.com/microsoft-office/prepare-word-2010-document-for-distribution-prepare-menu/
Problem solved!  (But I don't think the user should have to do all this though).
Hope this solves it for you too.

  • Embedding reference/page links to external PDF, in Word document before exporting it as PDF...

I have a substantial compilation of documents in a single PDF file: call this the reference material.
I am writing a narrative concerning the above using Word 2010, which when complete I will export to PDF, to be included with the above reference PDF, either as a separate PDF or (ideally) combined with it into one single PDF.
The narrative will include many references to specific pages (ideally views of individual pages) within the reference material, ideally as clickable links.
The only way I can see to do this is to complete the narrative Word document, PDF it, and then go through the whole PDF narrative document creating page-view links for each of the in-text references, either:
to the reference material as an external PDF, or
having combined the narrative PDF with the reference PDF, and then creating the links.
So... I'm wondering if there may be some slick method of creating the page-view links in the Word document as I go along, in such a way that they would survive the transition when the narrative is exported into PDF. I'm assuming I'm not the first person to need to do such a job!
(I'm hoping to avoid using pre-set destinations in the reference PDF.)
    Using Acrobat 9 Pro Ext.
    Thank you!

I will not address the terminal server environment (check the license on that). However, it could be that the fonts the individual is using are not on the terminal server and that is the cause of the failure. It might work to embed the fonts in the PS file (an option in the creation process) so that they are available to Distiller. Based on your comment that it is a symbol issue, that is my best guess.

  • Acrobat X 10.02 crashes when converting Word 2007 document wiht linked Visio file.

Acrobat X 10.02 crashes when converting Word 2007 document with linked Visio file and causes a C++ runtime error in Word and crashes Word.
To see the behavior create a short Word 2007 document with a linked Visio file (e.g., create a Visio file with one box and text and insert it as a link into a Word docx).
    No problem in Acrobat 9

There may be some of an issue with AA X on this, but part of the blame probably goes to MS also. I would suggest you simply clip the graphic from VISIO as a vector graphic (EMF will be used by default) and not do the link and do not embed the VISIO object. The linking and use of embedded objects in WORD 2007 seems to have been a major problem and is mostly a MS issue.

  • External Link to Word document question

    Hello, fellow RoboHelpers!
I have a quick question that I am hoping someone can answer
    for me. :-)
I am using RoboHelp X5 and use Microsoft HTML Help (.CHM) as
my file output. I would like to link a Word document to one of my
topics, so when a user clicks the link, they will be prompted to
    open/save the Word document.
The following are the steps I use to do this:
    1) I type the text that I want the to use for the hyperlink,
highlight it, and select the Hyperlink tool (or press CTRL+K).
    2) In the Hyperlink dialog box, I select "File" from the
"Link To:" section and select my Word document.
    3) I select "Yes" to add the Word document to my project
    folder.
    4) In the Hyperlink diaglog box, I select OK, and the link
    has been created.
    5) I generate my Help project and test the link.
    6) When I click the hyperlink, I receive a "File Download -
Security Warning" box asking me if I want to Open or Save the Word
    document.
Problem #1 -- it appears that I can save the Word document by
clicking "Save" without any problems, but clicking "Open" does not
open the Word document in Microsoft Word. Why?
Problem #2 -- The warning box displays three criteria: the
file name, what type of file it is, and "From". I have issues with
the "From" line. While the .CHM file is attempting to call the Word
document from within the .CHM file, which is what I expected it to
do ... the path is, well, ugly looking :-P
    mk:@MSITStore:C:\Program%20Files\RoboHelp%20Office\
    RoboHTML\HTMLMicrosoftHTML\VRHelp.chm::/ICBA.doc
Is there any way that I can clean up this path? If I could at
least get rid of that mk:@MSITStore, that would be a good start.
If anyone has some suggestions, I am all for it!
    Thank you very much,

RHX5 does this automatically with your steps as I use an older
    version.
    John
Yes, the Word document is added as a baggage file. If I click
"Open", the Security Warning box disappears and nothing happens
    (unfortunately).
In the Hyperlink properties, I realized that I had the link
opening in the "same window", so I changed it to display in a "New
Window". Now, when I generate/click the link, the Word document
tries to open in Internet Explorer (path and all). I get the same
message box as before asking me if I want to Open or Save the
document. Still, clicking "Open" will not open the Word document in
Microsoft Word. When I press Open, the box simply disappears and
the path remains in the Internet Explorer address bar. If I select
the path in the message bar and press Enter to bring up the
Open/Save prompt again, I can save the document ... but I cannot
    Open it.
A thought just occurred to me while I was typing this: Would
the fact that I am using Microsoft Word 2007 have anything to do
with why the file will not open? I remember hearing that Office
2007 is not compatible with RoboHelpX5, so perhaps that is why the
document is not opening. Still, RoboHelpX5 doesn't seem to have a
problem saving the file to your harddrive regardless of the
filetype, and the Word document I am working with is a .doc file
anyway, compatible with Word 97-2003, not a .docx.
