Word, Excel, etc not opening

Question

Hi there,
I have been having a few problems with opening Microsoft Office applications on my mac.  Firstly, the word icon kept disappearing from my dock.  I tried deleting the dock plist files and also the microsoft office plist files from library - preferences following advice from an online forum. 
I've also done a hard drive disk utility repair.
Now, none of the microsoft office applications work (word, excel, etc). 
The error message I get includes this: 
Dyld Error Message:
  Library not loaded: @rpath/mbukernel.framework/Versions/14/mbukernel
  Referenced from: /Users/andybooth/Desktop/Microsoft Office 2011/Office/Microsoft Excel.app/Contents/MacOS/Microsoft Excel
  Reason: image not found
My Mac is running OS X 10.6.8

With all due respect, I disagree most vigorously.
I can find nothing like this either in the Apple Support Communities Terms of Use, or in the Community etiquette. I quote from the latter:
"Apple Support Communities exists to enable community members to help each other get the most out of their Apple products and services."
In my book, helping a community member to use Microsoft Word (or any other legal third party software) effectively on his Mac certainly qualifies as helping him to get the most out of his Apple product.
To my mind, there are only two further points.
(1) Has the question been posted in the right forum? That's significant, because posting in the wrong forum creates noise. For instance, posting in the Lion forum a question about using MS Word under Snow Leopard creates noise, because the correct answer for Lion may be very different from the correct answer for SL.
In our specific instance, the OP erred in posting a software question (using MS Office under SL) in a forum dedicated primarily to a specific hardware platform (MacBook Pro). The correct forum would have been              Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard.
(2) How likely is the OP to find get a useful answer? In this respect, sig was right to refer him to Microsoft's Office Mac support site, because that's where the OP is likely to find many dedicated users of this particular software, and thus has a much better chance of finding the answer he's looking for. But that's not the same thing as telling him that he shouldn't post such questions in the Apple Support Communities.
